Last year, Rajinikanth entertained everyone with the movie Jailer. The songs, dialogues, and action scenes left a good impression on his fans and the movie-going audience. The Tamil film is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and also stars Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Mirnaa Menon, Yogi Babu, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Sunil.
Some time ago, director Nelson revealed that the Rajinikanth starrer will have a sequel. At that time, he said that the film was titled Jailer 2. However, a new report mentions that the makers are going to give a movie another title. The title is taken from a hit song featuring the superstar.

The gang is back in “Magic Mike Xxl,” this time in a road trip film. Ok, most of the gang is back. Matthew McConaughey’s Dallas and Alex Pettyfer’s The Kid characters are awol, but returning to the fold are Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez and Gabriel Iglesias. Steven Soderbergh has vacated the director’s chair too, but don’t worry, he’s acted as director of photography, camera man and editor (we heard this one basically locked picture already). Instead, Soderbergh’s right-hand man and longtime producer/first A.D. Greg Jacobs is at the helm (he directed “Criminal” and “Wind Chill”). From all accounts, while still written by Reid Carolin and Tatum, “Magic Mike Xxl” sounds like much more of a good time buddies comedy. This time the strippers take a road trip from Tampa to Myrtle Beach for a stripping convention.

While he’s spent more than a decade both producing and working as First Assistant director on the films of Steven Soderbergh, filmmaker Greg Jacobs is much more than just second fiddle. A utility player who wears several hats in the creative process, Jacobs has produced over two dozen films, acted as a second-unit director or assistant director on two dozen more, directed two feature-length films (2004’s “Criminal” and 2007’s “Windchill”), and has one more in the works. It’s a little film called “Magic Mike Xxl” which you may have heard of. But Jacobs is more than a jack-of-all-trades shortstop. He’s a creator, and his latest endeavor is “Red Oaks," a TV series he conceived and co-wrote for Amazon. A coming-of-age comedy set in the "go-go" '80s, “Red Oaks” centers on a college student trying to enjoy a last hurrah before summer comes to an end and his uncertain future begins.

Amazon Studios have always done things a little differently. Firstly, their door is always open to creators wishing to submit material. Secondly, when they produce that material, it’s for the audience to decide if it is of sufficient quality to warrant further investment. They make a pilot available, people watch it, and its fate is determined by user comments and ratings. Among the latest of these offerings is Red Oaks – a comedy written by Joe Gangemi (Wind Chill) and Gregory Jacobs (Criminal), directed by David Gordon Green (Prince Avalanche) and executive produced by Steven Soderbergh. To say it is worth checking out is an understatement.
Starring Craig Roberts (22 Jump Street), Paul Reiser (Mad About You), Richard Kind (Obvious Child) and Jennifer Grey (The Bling Ring), the show is set in the 1980s, and sees a college student take a summer job as an assistant tennis pro at a country club.

Ariel Vromen’s next film – Criminal – is shaping up to be proof positive of the filmmaker’s ability to attract fascinating casting combinations. Where his previous movie – 2012’s The Iceman – featured Michael Shannon, Chris Evans, James Franco, Winona Ryder, Ray Liotta and David Schwimmer, his forthcoming venture is bringing in names even more legendary in nature.
The plot centres around a dangerous criminal, who is tasked by the CIA to complete a dead agent’s mission after they implant that agent’s memories and experiences into his brain. Kevin Costner will feature in the leading role, with Ryan Reynolds, Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Oldman also signing up. By anyone’s standards, that’s quite a lot of testosterone, so we now have the announcement that Alice Eve will also co-star.

Directed by David Gordon Green (Prince Avalanche), and written by Gregory Jacobs (Criminal) and Joe Gangemi (Wind Chill), Red Oaks has now added actor Craig Roberts to its cast in the lead role.

The Costner comeback continues with news that the Academy Award winner is in negotiations to take the lead role in the sci-fi thriller Criminal – currently being developed by Millennium Films. The film would see the actor as an unpredictable and dangerous character, who finds himself in the unusual predicament of being needed for action on the government side of the law. The knowledge and skills of a deceased CIA operative are implanted into his brain, and the shadowy organization asks him to finish the mission.

Speaking with GQ, Channing Tatum let loose some details when it comes to Magic Mike Xxl (aka Magic Mike 2), which he co-wrote with Reid Carolin and will return as the title star. First thing to note for those that haven't been paying close attention, Steven Soderbergh will not be back to direct, instead Soderbergh's longtime second unit director, Gregory Jacobs, will be taking over at the helm for the now "retired" (from theatrical filmmaking at least) director. Tatum, however, tried what he could to get him to change his mind. "I lobbied probably harder than anybody else," Tatum told GQ about his efforts to get Soderbergh back as director. "We had many, many nights of heated debate. I was, 'I don't f--ing get it! Whyc' And he's like, 'I don't need it.'" Soderbergh, it turns out, will serve as editor and cinematographer, which might be the best thing...

Never one to hate all remakes equally, I'm quite excited about the Maniac Cop redo. With original trilogy director William Lustig producing and Only God Forgives director Nic Winding Refn also sitting behind-the-scenes, it's hard to cast a cynical eye on the project.
I was happy last week when it was announced that comic writer Ed Brubaker ("Criminal", "Captain America") would pen Matt Cordell's latest adventure. While we wait for the director to be announced at Cannes, Brubaker sat down with Fangoria to talk a little bit more about the new Maniac Cop.
I wrote a lot of drafts. There’s definitely some intentional humor here and there that’s really dark. I think how it’s shot and the sound design is going to be so important to how scary it is or isn’t. And you know, the director that signed on is really amazing, so I’m really psyched.

While we’ve known for a while that Channing Tatum is hard at work on the Magic Mike sequel – the man himself recently tweeted photographic evidence – but most other details were still hidden. Now The Playlist has it that Greg Jacobs will be the man to direct the new film, and that it will be called Magic Mike Xxl.The word arrives from “sources”, so we can’t treat it as official yet, but Jacobs certainly isn’t a stranger to the world of Magic Mike, nor the first film’s director, Steven Soderbergh. He’s served as first assistant director for Soderbergh since King Of The Hill and has been a producer on his films for several years. So while there had been chatter about Tatum or writing/producing partner Reid Carolin taking the reins, Jacobs would seem to be a smart choice. Jacobs has also called the shots...

Earlier this week, "Magic Mike" co-star Joe Manganiello said that the male stripper dramedy's sequel will start shooting this fall and that more news was coming soon. Now that news has arrived. The sequel will be titled "Magic Mike Xxl" and will star Channing Tatum, Manganiello, and presumably more members of the 2012 film's buff, shiny cast. "Xxl" also has a new director, although Steven Soderbergh is staying on as an executive producer. The sequel will be directed by Gregory Jacobs, Soderbergh's longtime A.D., according to The Playlist. Jacobs also directed the 2004 caper film "Criminal," which starred John C. Reilly, Diego Luna and Maggie Gyllenhaal, and was produced by Soderbergh and George Clooney. "Magic Mike" also starred Matthew McConaughey, Olivia Munn, Alex Pettyfer and Cody Horn.

Steven Soderbergh's longtime assistant director Gregory Jacobs ("Criminal," "Wind Chill") is taking over the helm of the film which will go by the name of "Magic Mike Xxl". Jacobs served as both assistant director and producer on the first "Magic Mike," while Soderbergh will stay on as an executive producer of the sequel.
Channing Tatum is returning as writer on this follow-up which aims to begin filming in the Fall. While no deals are in place, most of the original's key cast members are expected back including Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Olivia Munn and Alex Pettyfer.

The title and the director for Magic Mike 2 have reportedly been revealed.
Channing Tatum recently confirmed that he is working on the script, along with the original movie's producer Reid Carolin.
Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh's involvement with the sequel has been in question for over a year, with The Playlist now reporting that he ultimately chose not to direct the next instalment.
Highly-placed sources told the website that Soderbergh's creative collaborator Greg Jacobs (Criminal) has signed on to direct.
The movie will apparently be titled Magic Mike Xxl, with an official studio announcement to be made in the coming days.
Soderbergh is expected to stay involved in an advisory capacity as an executive producer.
Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello revealed to Collider earlier this week that production is expected to begin this autumn.

Pushing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire aside after its two weeks at the top spot, Disney's Frozen opened with £4.70m. That's by no means the top number for an animation this year – Despicable Me 2 debut gathered £14.82m, including £4.87m in previews in June – but it's a solid start for a film presumed to play to the Christmas audience. Family films targeting the Christmas market have a knack of playing strongly right through until Christmas Eve, and if the festive association is not too strong can, continue to play beyond that date.
Two years ago, Aardman's Arthur Christmas debuted with a so-so £2.11m, but by Christmas Day had managed £19.66m, and eventually reached £20.84m. (A re-release...

Today, Walt Disney Studios announced a couple of updates on their films as well as dates for two Untitled Marvel films. In line with Marvel’s successful tradition of opening films in early May, including the billion-dollar hits Marvel’S The Avengers and Marvel’s Iron Man 3, these untitled movies will open May 6, 2016 and May 5, 2017.
The sequel to The Avengers is still set to open May 1, 2015.
Saving Mr. Banks (Disney) now opens December 13, 2013 in limited release and will still hit theaters nationwide December 20, 2013.
Two-time Academy Award®–winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks topline Disney’s “Saving Mr. Banks,” inspired by the extraordinary, untold backstory of how Disney’s classic “Mary Poppins” made it to the screen.
When Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers’ “Mary Poppins,” he made them a promise—one that he didn’t...

If you haven't assumed the notion by now, Steven Soderbergh is pretty much the ideal interview subject (check out our recent conversation with him here). Witty, relatable, and willing to divulge extensive behind-the-scenes details, the director has faced his indefinite hiatus with reflections galore, the latest of which concerns his turn away from screenwriting, and more toward the cinematographer role he's so frequently explored. Starting with his Sundance breakout hit, “sex lies and videotape,” Soderbergh supplied the scripts for his and other directors' films throughout the '90s, including “King of the Hill,” “Schizopolis” and Gregory Jacob's “Criminal” (under the pseudonym Peter Lowry). However, he stopped after 2002's “Solaris” to start on his trail of collaborations with other writers, and speaking with Ignatiy Vishnevetsky over at Mubi, he claims there's a simple answer as to why -- namely, that “writing is the worst job in the...

Given the success of this year’s Magic Mike, it was inevitable that sequel talk would start at some point. After all, once you make a movie for $7 million that takes in $113 in the Us alone, you know you’ve got something. Tatum has already been talking up follow-up ideas, and a few more details have emerged, including who the actor / producer thinks could direct it. Hint: the list includes one Channington P Tatum. Yes, with Steven Soderbergh still planning to go on hiatus after finishing Behind The Candelabra, it’s unlikely he’ll be tempted back to make the Mike sequel. Tatum has told German site Filmstarts (with a helpful translation from the gang at The Playlist) that he could well take the gig, possibly working alongside writer and producing pal Reid Carolin. However, he’s not made any plans just yet, and goes on to suggest Criminal director...

This review may contain spoilers. Eight months after the events of "Original Sin," the Season 1 finale, Lee (David Strathairn) is incarcerated in a mental institution. Rachel (Azita Ghanizada) is a shut-in in the family rooms over the dry cleaning shop, no longer able to deal with the sensory overload of being in public. Nina (Laura Mennell) is a civilian again and back to her petty larcenous hedonistic ways. Bill (Malik Yoba) and Cameron (Warren Christie) are the only ones still with Defense Criminal Investigative Service (Dcis) under Nathan Clay (was Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, now Mahershala Ali). Last year, the world received the news of the existence of alphas, but no concrete proof, so now alphas are the latest conspiracy theory that most sensible people dismiss and only tabloids ...

Bemoans lack of American interest in complexity, ambiguity, as male stripper epic arrives in theaters.
When Sex, Lies, and Videotape came out in 1989, it was kind of an event. I suppose we could call this era sort of the dawn of the indie film movement. Christ knows I’ve attributed the dawn of the indie film movement to enough individual films, may as well just assign it to a time period, like they do with other eras. Anyways, this little movie with this very provacative title hit the scene, and for some reason there was a feeling that it was heralding a sea change within the medium.
Being a pubescent cinephile, and interested in every item represented within the title, and not yet knowing that the name Andie MacDowell was a virtual guarantee that nothing hot was going to take place, I rented Sex, Lies, and Videotape, and was just...

This week at your neighborhood comic-book pusher’s: I’m a cult hero; I like traffic lights, but not when they are red (He likes traffic lights, but not when they are red); Meet the New San Diego, same as the old San Diego; George Clooney’s least favorite comic.
The Spider #1–Despite my deep and abiding love for all things crime fiction, the pulp hero has been my own red-headed stepchild. Perhaps not that reviled, but I certainly don’t give this field in the genre all that much recognition. This is only made more odd by my distinct pleasure in reading the essays on the old pulps that Jess Nevins wrote for the backs of several issues of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillps’s Criminal. I can’t remember if The Spider ever made it into any of those essays, but I’m sure he will be in...

The 2012 Tribeca Film Festival officially kicks off tonight with a screening of The Five- Year Engagement. That of course means my Tff experience officially starts tomorrow with the first of many early morning press screenings. I currently have a temporary schedule consisting of 15 films spread across 5 days. I also plan to check out some online screenings, as well as a few festival events. Since most interview opportunities seem to be falling on days when I will not be at the fest, I.ve decided to play it by ear much like last year. Also like last year, you will be able to see my Tribeca experience unfold in real-time by following @GetStuck on Twitter.

David Fincher's adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is only the latest English-language version of a hit Scandi film to disappoint at the box office. Have we now got a taste for 'authentic originals'?
When producer Scott Rudin optioned the English-language rights on Stieg Larsson's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo books in early 2010, he'd be forgiven for anticipating a slam-dunk hit. He had a global bestseller and two lead characters likely to attract A-list actors. The only snag was that the material had already yielded film versions in the original Swedish. But these had yet to open in the key English-speaking markets, which would surely be way more excited about a version directed by David Fincher and starring Daniel Craig. Right?
Fast-forward two years, and the film's main backer, MGM, disclosed to its investors that box-office for Fincher's film was "below our expectations and...

Book of Eli star reportedly set to play investigator in Billy Ray reboot of Juan José Campanella's Oscar-winning thriller
The mooted Hollywood remake of Argentina's Oscar-winning thriller The Secrets in Their Eyes looks to have secured Denzel Washington for its lead role, according to a report on Twitch.
Since Juan José Campanella's original carried off the best foreign film Oscar in 2010 (defeating the much-fancied A Prophet and The White Ribbon), an American version has been on the cards, with Warner Bros acquiring the rights and hiring Flightplan scriptwriter Billy Ray to direct.
The Secrets in Their Eyes tells the story of a federal investigator who is haunted by a murder from decades earlier, and follows in the tracks of Nine Queens, another Argentinian thriller that became the 2004 John C. Reilly starring Criminal.
