Netflix is good with action series and movies. In fact, the streamer appears to have made high-quality ones of that genre more of a priority than medical dramas. Netflix won't be releasing its first English-language one until April 3, when Pulse comes out. That means, in a backward way, that the news you are about to read is a great thing.

This week, your favorite streamer announced that it has ordered a new series called Extraction. If that name sounds familiar, it is because there have been two films called that. They starred Chris Hemsworth as an Australian black ops mercenary who takes on a mission to save an Indian drug lord's kidnapped son in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Make sense? Maybe, but it was fun.

NBCUniversal has cut a deal with Paramount Global, an agreement that will bring the long-running popular Nickelodeon show Spongebob Squarepants to the kids and family-focused theme park Universal Destinations and Experiences is building in the Lone Star State.

Universal officially announced all of the IP-driven lands that it is building at the new resort, which will open next year in Frisco. Most of the lands will be based on IP owned or connected to NBCUniversal, with Spongegob being the outlier (and one other with an asterisk).

The lands will include DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek, Puss in Boots, Trolls and Gabby’s Dollhouse; Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants; Illumination’s Minions, as well as Jurassic World.

Netflix's "Extraction" is no longer just a series of movies starring Chris Hemsworth -- it's a full-on franchise. The streaming service has officially expanded the scope of this universe by giving the greenlight to a new TV show set in the same universe as the Hemsworth-fronted Tyler Rake films. The catch? Hemsworth won't be the leading man. Instead, Omar Sy is set to take on the lead role in the TV spin-off.

According to Variety, the currently unnamed "Extraction" TV show will be headed up by Glen Mazzara ("The Walking Dead"), who serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, Chris Castaldi, Sam Hargrave, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin are on board as executive producers. Omar Sy – Leading The TV Show

The 47-year-old actor, best known for roles in X-Men: Days of Future Past, Lupin, Jurassic World, and The Takedown, will be leading the show.

An “Extraction” TV series has been greenlit at Netflix, Variety has learned.

Omar Sy will lead the series, which is set in the same world as the Netflix film franchise. The streaming giant has commissioned eight episodes of the series. The first “Extraction” film, which starred Chris Hemsworth, was released on Netflix in 2020. Hemsworth returned for the sequel in 2023. The films were based on the graphic novel “Ciudad” by Ande Parks.

Glen Mazzara serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes and Chris Castaldi executive produce for Agbo, with Sam Hargrave, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin also executive producing. Joe Russo wrote the screenplay for both films and produced along with Anthony, Gitter, and Schwerin. Hargrave directed both films, with Agbo producing.

“I’m a very lucky man,” Mazzara said. “Omar is a huge talent. Joe, Anthony, and Angela have welcomed me into the Agbo family.

Holiday blockbusters like “Mufasa: The Lion King” and “Gladiator II” and a re-release of Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” helped lift profits and revenues at Imax during its fourth quarter. Revenues at the big screen company increased by 8% to $92.7 million, up from $86 million in the prior-year period. Net income at Imax more than doubled, topping out at $5 million compared to $2.5 million. Imax reported earnings per share of 27 cents, compared to 16 cents in the year-ago period.

However, Imax shares fell sharply in after-hours trading, dropping nearly 5% after the company failed to match Wall Street’s projections. Analysts were forecasting the company would post earnings of 29 cents per share and revenues of $104.8 million.

Imax’s CEO Richard Gelfond shrugged off the after-market dip, telling Variety “I don’t attribute it to anything. I don’t think it makes a difference.”

Pete Wanat, formerly vp at Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group and most recently at mobile developer Nifty Games, has been named president of interactive technology at Agbo, the company said on Thursday.

Firstly, the movies you won’t be seeing, but want to namecheck. Our rules were that we didn’t want to include films that had screened, but not made it to the UK yet (with the exception of British films). Hence – sorry Kevin – the next Horizon film isn’t on the list. There’s stuff we’re watching for release dates too: Above The Below, Mother’s Pride, All Of You, and such like. We acknowledge too that there’s a Michael Jackson biopic that you won’t find below. Plus superhero films that don’t really need our help, so we limited ourselves to one or two of those.

It’s no surprise that the best hour of Rescue: Hi-Surf Season 1 was an hour centered around Kainalu Emerson.

At times, Kainalu is a forgotten character, which is not what you would have thought when the series began — a nepo baby with a superiority complex making a colossal mistake right out of the gate and an ambitious political father pulling strings.

It had the makings of a classic redemption story, but things didn’t pan out that way.

Kainalu didn’t have a big, explosive rescue that showed all his peers that he was actually a competent lifeguard and an even better person, all while sappy music played in the background.

Instead, Kainalu has proven his worth over time.

He’s proven capable of accepting criticism, learning on the job, showing compassion, and doing his part to help his neighbors. Seeing his growth throughout the season has been nice to watch,...

Since I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a kid in the late 1990s and early 2000s, I’ve yearned for more from the franchise.

The series is one of my biggest comfort shows for many reasons, but most of all, because it’s as near to perfect as a show can get.

Yes, it had some issues in the final two seasons, but it was still a cut above most of the other fare on TV at the time.

The Superbowl is known for its halftime entertainment as well as its Big Game spots, although those were a bit thin on the ground this year, spots were released for ‘F1,’ Jurassic World: Rebirth’ and ‘Lilo and Stitch.’

Apple Original Films has premiered their Big Game Sport for the Brad Pitt-led F1 movie ‘F1.’

Brad Pitt stars as a former driver who returns to Formula 1, alongside Damson Idris as his teammate at Apxgp, a fictional team on the grid. The feature is being shot during actual Grand Prix weekends as the team competes against the titans of the sport.

Directed by ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ filmmaker Joseph Kosinski, the film also stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo.

Opening only in theatres in North America on June 27, 2025, and internationally beginning 25 June 2025.

Universal has debuted their new 60-second Super Bowl spot for Jurassic World Rebirth, to go along with the official trailer from earlier in the week. This is the next new movie in the ongoing Jurassic Park / World franchise of dinosaur movies. A standalone sequel to Jurassic World Dominion (2022) with its own mission, it is the 4th installment in the current Jurassic World series and the 7th overall. Directed by Gareth Edwards - a new expedition braves isolated equatorial regions to extract DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures for a groundbreaking medical breakthrough. But this place is even more dangerous. Starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, with Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Ed Skrein. This extended spot features mostly footage from the first trailer recut and prepared for the Super Bowl crowd to enjoy.

The first trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth was released earlier this week but Universal Pictures still unleashed dinosaurs on the Super Bowl with an epic minute-long "Big Game" TV spot.

If you caught the aforementioned sneak peek, much of the footage here will be familiar to you. However, we do see more of this team interacting and new glimpses of the dinosaurs they'll be forced to contend with (including the Rancor-like creature that's making this feel more like a horror movie than the expected action-adventure).

Even without seeing a frame, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning would have ranked high on our list of most anticipated movies of 2025. And now that Paramount has released a new Big Game spot (to go along with the teaser released in November), that has only skyrocketed – although not nearly as high as Tom Cruise has been.

We’ve already gotten looks at some of The Final Reckoning’s stunts in both air and water, but this trailer is promising so much more – which shouldn’t really surprise us as the franchise has continuously dazzled us with its action set pieces, each subsequent installment blowing our minds more than the last. And with everything we’ve seen so far, no doubt The Final Reckoning will be one hell of a way to conclude the series.

On Wednesday, Universal released the first trailer for Jurassic World: Rebirth, the latest installment in the Jurassic Park franchise and one that ties back to the original Steven Spielberg classic. The studio dropped a shorter version of the trailer just before Sunday night’s Super Bowl kickoff.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, the new film focuses on a small group of mercenaries and scientists who head to the remote island where dinosaurs were created for the original Jurassic Park in search of dinosaur DNA to help with a medical breakthrough. Scarlett Johansson, two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, and Wicked star Jonathan Bailey lead the cast. David Koepp, who wrote the original Jurassic Park, returned to write the new film.

This summer’s action-packed monster movie Jurassic World: Rebirth has released its first trailer and glimpse into the latest film in the franchise, starring Jonathan Bailey, Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali among others. Universal opens the film globally on July 2.

The fourth film in the Jurassic World series follows a team of scientists and others whose main objective is to acquire genetic samples from three of the largest dinosaurs in the sea, on land and in the air. Set five years after Jurassic World: Dominion (2022), the planet has become inhospitable for dinosaurs, so those that still exist have become isolated to environments in which their breeds once flourished. The three most colossal creatures in the different parts of the ecosystem could prove necessary for a life-saving drug for humans.

Johansson plays Zora Bennett, a covert operations expert who is tasked with a top-secret mission that drives the film’s plot.

It’s that time of year again: the biggest sporting event in the United States. Although Netflix has gotten more involved in the NFL in recent years, carrying the NFL Games on Christmas day and hosting documentaries and docu-series, it won’t be carrying the big game tonight. Jurassic World: The Experience will roar to life in Bangkok in the second quarter of this year.

Universal Destinations and Experiences is partnering with Thailand’s Asset World Corp and Singapore-based firm Neon to create the immersive experience in Bangkok’s Asiatique The Riverfront Destination on the banks of the Chao Phraya River.

Blending real-world science and education with high-quality entertainment, Jurassic World: The Experience will give guests their own Isla Nublar adventure with lifelike animatronic dinosaurs and environments from the film franchise, along with a themed cafe and restaurant.

Thailand’s Board of Investment has approved an investment of 1.2 billion baht — approximately US$35.6 million — to bring the tourist attraction to life.

A Jurassic World immersive attraction will open in Bangkok in the second quarter of this year, marking the franchise’s first stand-alone immersive attraction in Southeast Asia.

Costing 1.2 billion Thai baht (approximately $35.7 million), the Jurassic World facility is a collaboration between NBCUniversal’s parks and attractions division Universal Destinations & Experiences, Thailand’s Asset World Corp (Awc) and Singapore-headquartered immersive experiences firm Neon.

Inspired by the Hollywood movie Jurassic World, the project is named “Jurassic World: The Experience.”

“Jurassic World: The Experience” will span 4,000 square metres (around one acre), set to be located in Asiatique The Riverfront, an open-air mall on the banks of the Chao Phraya River.

The project will feature animatronic dinosaurs as well as iconic settings from the well-known film franchise.

Elsewhere in Southeast Asia, a Jurassic Park ride exists within Singapore’s Universal Studios theme park.

The Jurassic Park franchise is one of the greatest in Hollywood. With three decades of movies to its name, it has found a way to evolve, staged multiple comebacks and - with a new movie on the horizon - it just refuses to become extinct. Life has surely found a way to keep this billion-dollar phenomenon going.

That new chapter, Jurassic World Rebirth, looks to reinvent the saga again for a new audience. That might be easier said than done considering it just ended its most recent chapter less than three years ago but it will attempt to do so by taking the franchise back to its more gripping, thrilling, and perhaps even frightening roots. One of the ways it will attempt to do that is by including a deleted scene from the original Jurassic Park movie.

But an unused concept from Jurassic Park isn't the only thing coming back...

Jurassic World: Rebirth's first trailer confirmed a long-running rumor about its D-Rex mutant dinosaur. 

Starring the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, the upcoming pseudo-reboot of the Jurassic franchise follows a team of researchers yet again coming face to face with massive prehistoric beasts while on a quest to uncover a miracle cure my way of some good ol' dino DNA. 

From the T-Rex of Jurassic Park to the Gigantosaurus of Jurassic World, the Jurassic franchise, to this point, has featured some formidable big bad dinos over the years. That ante will seemingly be upped though in Gareth Edwards' upcoming blockbuster.
