Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek became a pop cultural phenomenon upon release back in the ‘60s. Despite only lasting three seasons, the story of space exploration in the future and diplomatic missions became extremely engaging to fans and the core cast like William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy became legends.
The original series had always been a story of three: Shatner’s Kirk, Nimoy’s Spock, and DeForest Kelley’s McCoy. The latter reportedly faced the brunt of the stardom as he only got typecast in McCoy-esque roles after his tenure in Star Trek. The actor mentioned that he was taken by surprise as he felt he had the most human character in the series.

The Office became a huge ratings success thanks to the brilliant anchoring performance from lead star Steve Carell. However, Carell exited the series during its seventh season with actor James Spader being chosen as his replacement for season 8. Nonetheless, Spader’s stint lasted only one season, with one executive feeling he wasn’t the right fit.

Although Spader was a household name when he signed on to play the lead in the sitcom’s twilight years, executives pinpointed the reason he wasn’t the ideal replacement for Carell, who did most of the comedic heavy lifting for the series in the earlier seasons. Here is what one executive producer on The Office had to say about Spader being a poor replacement for Carell.

William Shatner is best known for his role as the Enterprise Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek. Starring in the original series with Leonard Nimoy, Shatner became a pop culture icon for his performance as the charismatic and casanova captain. He went on to reprise the role in six more films and is forever associated with Star Trek.
However, his first Emmy nomination came not for the sci-fi series he is best known for. He received his first nomination for his guest role in John Lithgow’s sci-fi comedy 3rd Rock from the Sun where he played the human form of the alien named Big Giant Head. When Hollywood legend William Shatner speaks, people tend to listen, whether he’s talking about space, Star Trek, or, apparently, celebrity relationships. So, when he weighed in on Sandra Bullock’s very public and very messy split from Jesse James, it raised more than a few eyebrows. Why? Because Shatner, ever the optimist, actually thought there was a chance they’d get back together! Yes, you read that right.

It's hard to believe, but the original Captain James T. Kirk from Star Trek: The Original Series, William Shatner, will turn 94 next month. With genetics clearly in his favor, Shatner could easily pass for a man in his sixties, and he keeps the schedule of someone who clearly isn't interested in slowing down. But that doesn't mean the actor doesn't think about his mortality. In 2023, he told Variety [via Today] that he didn't have long to live. Certainly that's not something the fans want to even think about, but Shatner's matter-of-fact way of talking about death is just a part of who he is.
And he's all about finding joy in the life that he has, telling Dr. Mehmet Oz that "there's joy everywhere," and that we should be looking for it, offering up three possibilities of "whether it’s a hot bath or a good friend or a piece of cheese.

Claire Dunphy may just be into the firefighters of LA, but Modern Family star Julie Bowen had a different crush back in the day. The actress began her career in the ‘90s and was struggling to make it in Hollywood while the decade saw the emergence of the quirky yet attractive Johnny Depp.
Bowen mentioned that she had a huge crush on Depp and had even fantasized about how they would fall in love when she was hanging out at his club ‘The Viper Room’. While she imagined a cinematic meet-cute, fate seemed to have other plans and the first time they met in real life turned out to be like a Modern Family episode.

William Shatner kicked off his career as a promising young actor in the company of the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario. But when, despite strong notices for his performances, he failed to springboard to stardom like his Canadian colleague Christopher Plummer, Shatner lowered his sights and embraced the philosophy of a working actor. This isn't a knock. He shined in his "The Twilight Zone" episodes, and was superb as a racist interloper who stokes violence against the Black residents of a small town in Roger Corman's "The Intruder." However, he also took so many guest roles in television that he ran the risk of driving down his value by dint of his ubiquity.
Three seasons and several great episodes of "Star Trek" fixed that for Shatner, but throughout the 1970s he become closely associated with a kind of laughably serious, easily parodied manneredness. The ne plus ultra of...

William Shatner is most known for his dramatic acting. It's long been his calling card but despite his turns on the Twilight Zone, T.J. Hooker, and Star Trek, Shatner has proven himself to be quite good at comedy. Most newer fans will likely remember him on the hit show, Boston Legal, where he was charming and funny, yet that wasn't really his first dance with comedy.
Nor was it his best. For those who may not know this, William Shatner had a minor appearance in the second Airplane film. Entitled Airplane II: The Sequel, the film features a similar concept to the first one, but instead of it just being a plane, it's a spaceship. Something Shatner is profoundly familiar with.
The film, as a whole, doesn't live up to the profound impact of the first, nor the quality. Yet, Shatner's surprise cameo near the end of the film makes it worth watching.

When it comes to sitcoms, viewers often remember the characters that shine brighter, thanks to their eccentricities, physical comedy, quips, or maybe even their negative traits that make them one of the most hated among all. One such character from The Office is Jan Levinson, played by Melora Hardin.
From her on-again-off-again relationship with Michael Scott to her unceremoniously scented candles, Jan quickly went from a sensible woman to a detached character who everyone despised. The scene where she told Michael not to date Holly did not help either.

From her on-again-off-again relationship with Michael Scott to her unceremoniously scented candles, Jan quickly went from a sensible woman to a detached character who everyone despised. The scene where she told Michael not to date Holly did not help either.

Actor James Spader is known for his role as Raymond “Red” Reddington in the crime-drama series The Blacklist. The series revitalized Spader’s television career and the actor remains synonymous with the mysterious yet charismatic character. However, his performance as Red did not make Spader the household name he is today.

Instead, Spader first made waves with his performance as Alan Shore in the legal drama The Practice and its spin-off Boston Legal. As a result, it became Spader’s career-defining role despite the actor not being a popular pick for the series. Creator David E. Bradford English had a screen acting career that spanned from 1971 to 2010, and over those 39 years he racked up more than 70 credits – but for many of us, he’s best remembered for playing the drunk, abusive blowhard John Strode in the 1995 horror sequel Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. Sadly, we lost English right before Halloween this year, as it has been reported that he passed away on October 25th in Pasadena, California at the age of 82.
English was born in South Orange, New Jersey on January 16, 1942. His obituary can be found online and says he “was a true force of life and was filled with love. He was a husband and a family man who was survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart Cecelia Gail English. Together they created a beautiful family of four children: James Bradford English Jr., Jeffrey Brennan English, Kristin Lunney English and Colleen Margaret Theresa English.

Despite his recent resurgence with Wednesday and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Tim Burton has issued some caution about reports of his remaking a sci-fi classic. Burton is best known for his work in gothic-style filmmaking, having quickly established the genre penchant with 1988's Beetlejuice and carrying it on in everything from the Oscar-nominated Edward Scissorhands to his producing the stop-motion hits The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride.
In addition to his original storytelling, Burton has also frequently found himself in the director's chair for remakes and reimaginings of iconic movies and novels. Beginning with his 1999 adaptation of Sleepy Hollow, the filmmaker has largely found financial success with his takes on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Alice in Wonderland, though all have seen a variety of responses from critics. Even still, that hasn't stopped him from eyeing bringing his vision to another iconic property.

Suits is one of the best legal shows out there, but there are more to enjoy for fans of the series!
Suits has been one of the bigger TV success stories of the last few years. The original series ran on USA Network from 2011 to 2019, a great run that made it a huge rating smash. In 2023, the series hit Netflix and soon rocketed to the top of the viewing charts. That’s led to plans for a new revival series on NBC.
The show rests on the fun of the legal antics combined with great character work, such as the romances and fun banter of the characters. It joins a long list of legal dramas, many of them classic stuff like Law & Order centering on major cases. Yet others are fun in how they have a mix of great characters, sometimes offbeat cases and even some humor. If you’re a fan of Suits,...

As much as we still see Michael J. Fox at various events – whether to bring awareness to Parkinson’s or partake in Back to the Future reunions – we still miss him. That is, we miss seeing him perform. While Fox hasn’t had a substantial role on the big screen since 1996’s The Frighteners – made a few years after his Parkinson’s diagnosis and two years before he even announced it – he has leaned into television with recurring roles on shows like Boston Legal, Rescue Me and The Good Wife, all of which earned him acclaim. And just like we miss seeing him on screens both big and small, Fox himself misses certain aspects of the art.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Michael J. Fox said what really misses about acting is the collaborative process that a set brings, saying, “You go into something and you say, ‘I know what to do here,...

The horror movie Heretic starring Hugh Grant is surprisingly focused on food. Some Heretic screenings are making use of a marketing ploy called Smell-o-Vision. The directors of the film had a strong reaction to this decision — which they did not make themselves.
The idea of using Smell-o-Vision at ‘Heretic’ screenings made the director’s laugh
We don’t think about it, but a lot of horror films center on food. From the barbecue of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to the meat pies of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street to the stuff from The Stuff, we occasionally find horror in what’s on our plates. Heretic might be the first scary movie with a plot that revolves around blueberry pie. Interestingly, some theaters are showing the film with a Smell-O-Vision gimmick that lets viewers smell blueberry pie while the film plays.

James Spader's filmography proves that the actor is one of the most versatile performers in Hollywood. He is also someone who reinvented himself halfway through his astonishing career. For the first 25 years, Spader was a solid performer in movies, taking on several high-profile supporting roles in movies like Pretty in Pink. He also proved he could pique the interest of critically acclaimed directors like Steven Soderbergh, Oliver Stone, Mike Nichols, and David Cronenberg while appearing in blockbusters like Stargate.
However, Spader made a change in 2003 when he took on a role in the TV series The Practice. Since then, his movie roles remain minimal, with only a few major releases. Instead, Spader focuses on TV now. He followed up The Practice with the leading the main cast in its spin-off Boston Legal, took a shot at starring in The Office, and enjoyed the greatest success of his career with...

Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and this year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.
According to scooper Mttsh, Ortega is now in talks for an undisclosed Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.
Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation, and an untitled Trey Edward Shults film that will co-star The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan.

Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children, directed by Tim Burton and starring Ella Purnell, Samuel L. Jackson, Eva Green, and Asa Butterfield, has made a long-due resurgence since dominating the Top 10 list on Netflixs streaming platform. Anyone familiar with the story of Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children and the work of Tim Burton will immediately see their compatibility and potential, making it slightly surprising that the movie didn't receive instant widespread appreciation.

Julie Bowen may have become a household name on ABC’s Modern Family. However, the actress who played Claire Dunphy, the mom of three, has played many other roles that showed off her versatility. Although her character on the show was hardworking, sarcastic, and responsible to a fault with a tendency to micromanage, not all the star’s roles have had the same qualities. In fact, years before she took on the role, the 54-year-old picked up characters that were rather different from the one most fans remember her in.

The Juice has well and truly been set loose at the box office, as Tim Burton's long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel claims the No. 1 spot from Deadpool and Wolverine with a record-breaking domestic debut.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice scared up an estimated $110 million in North America ($145M worldwide) to give it the 3rd biggest opening of 2024; 2nd biggest opening ever for Tim Burton; 2nd best September opening, and 2nd biggest opening ever for a horror film, surpassing Warner Bros.' It: Chapter 2.
This also means that the sequel has already surpassed the original movie's entire global gross ($74 million) after a single weekend in theaters.
Getting back to Marvel Studios' massively successful first foray into R-rated territory, and it looks like the movie is set to premiere on Digital platforms early next month (we're still waiting on an official announcement).

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is now in theaters, and we're breaking down the long-awaited sequel's batsh*t crazy final act to see if the door to the Afterlife might be left open for a third movie.
Major spoilers follow.
When her daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega) is tricked into trading her soul to restore the ghost of murderous neighbour/love-interest Jeremy (Arthur Conti) to life, Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) reluctantly summons Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) for help. The Ghost with the Most agrees to bring Lydia to the Afterlife to rescue Astrid... if she'll sign a contract promising to be his bride.
Lydia manages to bring Astrid home, but has already agreed to marry Rory (Justin Theroux), who Betelgeuse exposes as a gold-digging cad. Still, the prospect of tying the knot with a lecherous demon isn't exactly appealing to Lydia, and Astrid manages to find a loophole which allows her mother out of the bargain.

Tim Burton's long-awaited sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is now in theaters, and, as fans hoped it would, the movie does explain what happened to the original film's protagonists.
Though Michael Keaton's titular Ghost with the Most was obviously the main attraction in Tim Burton's horror comedy classic, the main characters were actually Adam and Barbara Maitland (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis).
The recently married couple are killed in a car accident in the first few minutes of the movie, and their displaced spirits wind up summoning Betelgeuse in an effort to drive the new owners of their house (Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz and her family) away. Things don't exactly go according to plan, however.
Ultimately, Betelgeuse is banished, and the Deetzs and Maitlands agree to share the house.
Keaton, Ryder and Catherine O'Hara (who plays Lydia's mother) reprise their roles for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but Baldwin and Davis don't appear.

By nostalgia grab standards, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is an adequate at best expansion. Tim Burton can't resurrect the original's immaculate gothy-silly energies, despite this being the filmmaker's closest live-action return to form since Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. It's not craveable in the way 1988's Beetlejuice is required October viewing, nor does Burton channel the same kookily macabre magic. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice reopens the door to a beloved horror-comedy dimension, and there are highlights worth the second tour, but like many decades-later sequels, Burton's chasing a high that he never catches.
Thirty-six years later, the Deetz family looks awfully different. Lydia (Winona Ryder) hosts a popular paranormal investigation show called "Ghost House with Lydia Deetz." Delia (Catherine O'Hara) showcases her immersive artwork in a Soho gallery. Charles — well, Charles tragically dies while flying home from an overseas birdwatching trip, and his funeral is what reunites Lydia and Delia. They...

Tim Burton's long-awaited sequel to his cult classic, Beetlejuice, opens this weekend, and the movie is expected to have a ghoulishly good debut at the box office.
According to the latest estimates (via Deadline), Beetlejuice Beetlejuice should take in around $145 million worldwide (Warner Bros. is anticipating an $80M domestic bow). If this proves to be accurate, the sequel will debut with more than the lifetime gross of the original 1988 movie, which finished its run at $74.6M, unadjusted for inflation.
The chaotic horror comedy should also claim the spot from Marvel Studios' Deadpool and Wolverine, which - despite briefly being dethroned by Alien: Romulus - has remained at #1 for six weekends it's been in theaters.
