“I felt like a protective nerd, like the gatekeeping fan girl in the room,” Ariana Grande jokingly told the crowd at the DGA Theater on Tuesday night. The Oscar nominee, speaking in conversation with Billie Eilish for an FYC event, shared what was nonnegotiable for her in terms of changes from Wicked’s stage musical to film.
“I’m somewhat of a purist when it comes to making musical changes, especially it has to have an emotional attachment or some sort of believable intention behind it,” she explained. The Eternal Sunshine singer said it felt like her job to protect Glinda.
“Stephen Schwartz shared that there was a version of popular in the very beginning that had hip-hop drums in it,” Grande told Eilish and the crowd, noting she thought it was fine to share since Schwartz had already told the story. “I was like, ‘How do I have this conversation in the most loving,...

In the promotional tour for the UK release of “Ex-Machina” in January of 2015, writer-director Alex Garland lamented the relative failure of “Sunshine,” “Never Let Me Go” and “Dredd” by commenting that his films miss some mainstream sensibility’ and ‘… just don’t break out’. It’s interesting to look back on that statement now following the recent box office success of “Civil War.” Has Garland’s sensibility changed? Or has the cinematic dial shifted to a place in which his films have now become more conscionable to the masses? To answer this question, we must go back to Garland’s childhood…
Obsessed with the sci-fi fables of J.G. Ballard and Ray Bradbury, as well as old episodes of “The Twilight Zone,” Garland channeled his interest in artificial intelligence into his screenplay for his directorial debut “Ex-Machina.” What started as an “epiphany” based on Murray Shanahan’s ‘The Technological Singularity’ evolved into...

28 Days Later marked the second collaboration for director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland after 2000's The Beach. While the latter isn't widely seen as a seminal work for either creative, the former certainly is. The 2002 zombie thriller stars Cillian Murphy as Jim, a survivor who attempts to traverse London in search of sanctuary following the outbreak of the Rage Virus in the U.K.
Boyle and Garland returned as executive producers for the sequel, 28 Weeks Later (2007), but Boyle is now back as director and Garland as screenwriter for the upcoming 28 Years Later, which marks a reunion after 18 years of working on their own projects. In those 18 years, Boyle directed movies like Slumdog Millionaire (2008), 127 Hours (2010), and Steve Jobs (2015), while Garland moved into directing with projects like Ex Machina (2014), Annihilation (2018), and Civil War (2024). Now, it's been revealed why the pair didn't work together for so long.

The Berlin International Film Festival has announced the full lineup for its 2025 Generation section, which highlights children and youth films.
The Generation 14plus 2025 competition will open with Christy, directed by Brendan Canty. The film portrays a teenage boy from Cork, Ireland, navigating the shadows of his family’s past while seeking a place in the world. In the Generation Kplus section, the opening film The Nature of Invisible Things explores a community’s support for two girls as they grapple with moments of farewell and new beginnings.
The competition lineup features Seaside Serendipity by Satoko Yokohama, an episodic film set on a nameless Japanese island, which blends magical realism with everyday life, questioning the intersection of art and life. Also highlighted is Wrong Husband by Zacharias Kunuk, which transports viewers to a mystical world in the Canadian Arctic, where human and spirit realms collide in a fairy tale about young love.

Movies like Interstellar gain a reputation as mind-bending and strange because they combine elements of science fiction, fantasy, and surrealism to deliver an off-kilter cinematic experience. Christopher Nolan is known for his ability to mess with the mind of the viewer thanks to an impressive dedication to both meticulous plotting and classical filmmaking techniques mixed with new-school effects. Interstellar is one of his greatest works and one of the best mind-bending movies ever because it isn't just one thing.

Since Liam Payne’s tragic demise on October 16, rigorous investigation has taken place surrounding his fatal fall from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires. Since then, five people have been charged in connection with the death of the One Direction singer. One among them is Payne’s friend Roger Nores.

Surprisingly, while Roger Nores has been charged with manslaughter after he allegedly abandoned Liam Payne right before his fatal fall, Nores reportedly shifted the blame on the singer’s drug abuse. Claiming in a new filing that his drug abuse had deteriorated in the past two years, Nores mentioned how Payne had previously come “close to death” multiple times before his ultimate demise.

Yesterday, Warner Bros. and DC Studios shared the first poster for Superman. The movie will serve as the true launching platform for the new Dcu after Max's Creature Commandos, and excitement for Thursday's trailer is rapidly rising.
In the motion poster shared on social media yesterday, we heard what appeared to be composer John Murphy's score for the reboot. Taking its cues from John Williams' work in Superman: The Movie and, to a lesser extent, Hans Zimmer's Man of Steel theme, it's received a positive response from fans.
Today, Murphy has posted a 30-second clip on YouTube in a video he's named "Theme From Superman." We don't know if this is the Man of Tomorrow's main theme, but it seems to be at least part of it (we'd imagine a full "reveal" is being saved for the trailer).

The best Cillian Murphy movies and TV shows feature a strong mix of work with acclaimed niche directors and one of the best historical crime TV shows of this century. Murphy is an Irish actor who got his start working in stage plays before he finally enjoyed his breakout role in the post-apocalyptic horror movie 28 Days Later (2002). Working with director Danny Boyle on that project opened the door for them to reunite a few years later for the psychological sci-fi film Sunshine.
However, while his work with Boyle was a good way to get his foot in the door, what came later defined his career. He worked with Christopher Nolan for the first time in Batman Begins, which started a collaboration between the two that led to Murphy’s Best Actor Oscar win years later for Oppenheimer. A24’s “Warfare” is coming.
The new film from “Annhilation” and “Ex Machina” filmmaker Alex Garland, co-written and co-directed by Iraq War vet Ray Mendoza (who Garland worked with on this year’s “Civil War”), is coming to theaters in 2025. And a new trailer showcases just how intense this new film will be. Watch it below.
https://youtu.be/JER0Fkyy3tw
According to the official synopsis, the movie “embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs in the home of an Iraqi family, overwatching the movement of US forces through insurgent territory. Writer/director Alex Garland is one of the more dynamic film directors to emerge in the last decade. After exploding on the scene with his directorial debut, 2014’s critically acclaimed “Ex Machina,” Garland has put together a string of highly original and unique features in their exploration of genres. “Annihilation” is not a traditional sci-fi film.

Dua Lipa dreamed big for her new concert special An Evening With Dua Lipa, and, she tells Deadline, it’s now one of her “favorite performances she’s ever done.” The CBS special airs Sunday at 8:30 p.m. Et and 8 p.m. Pt.
Lipa put her whole heart into the project, which is evident in the many of the layers that make up the final product. From including the legendary Elton John as part of her performance, to reuniting with her Sylvia Young Theater School teacher Ray, Lipa was meticulous in selecting the emotional notes to hit. She also described the rehearsal process as “Royal Albert Hall boot camp.” Keep those tissues close by.

Nearly 20 years since the last film in the franchise, Danny Boyle returns to his long-awaited zombie apocalypse sequel. Titled “28 Years Later,” the film reunites with screenwriter-turned-director Alex Garland—their first film together since 2007’s “Sunshine,” released in the same year as “28 Weeks Later.” Not that much is known about the film, but it appears the rage virus, which had been dormant for nearly three decades has returned.

In October, Dua Lipa did a spectacular one-night-only live performance at London’s historic Royal Album Hall. It was a classy hometown coronation of sorts for the singer, who grew up in the city and has become one of the biggest pop artists to come out of the UK in the past decade. She pulled out all the stops for the event. Taking the stage in a red, floor-length Jean Paul Gaultier dress, a 53-piece orchestra and 14-member choir backed the singer alongside her crack, disco-steeped backing band. “There have...

After deciding to skip Ccxp this weekend, Sony Pictures has released the first poster for 28 Years Later (via FearHQ.com). With any luck, this means a trailer isn't far behind.
The movie picks up after the events of Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's 28 Weeks Later.
We don't learn much here, though it's a fitting piece of imagery for the franchise which confirms that Civil War and Ex Machina director Alex Garland returned to write the script after previously penning Boyle's 28 Days Later and Sunshine.
The poster also includes an ominous new tagline: "Time Didn't Heal Anything."
Official plot details for 28 Years Later have been kept under wraps. However, it's no secret that Boyle is returning to direct this opening chapter before handing over the reins to Nia DaCosta (Candyman) for the second instalment of a planned trilogy.
The impressive cast also includes Jodie Comer,...

Back in the day, you could just throw any old bullshit into the end credits of a movie. In fact, filmmakers were fond of splicing the funniest bad takes into the infinite scroll, because why not? It was just some noise to play while people filed out of the theater. Now, we’re all used to hanging around for the post-credits scene, so we pay more attention, and it turns out some end credit choices are completely unhinged.
“So I watched Edge of Tomorrow yesterday for the first time,” Redditor TheAlmightyTapir told r/Movies, “and it was a good action/sci-fi movie. I liked it. And the ending was nice right up until the credits kicked in with, ‘Iiiiiiiiii Need To Knoooooow Now!’ It was incredibly jarring, and it got me thinking if there are any other movies out with an incredibly poor/random choice of music in the end credits.

Former One Direction member and solo artist Liam Payne was reportedly laid to rest a month after his accidental death. The funeral, which reportedly took place on November 20 in London, was attended by his former bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan.
After they announced their hiatus in 2016, the members of One Direction embarked on solo careers. While their recent reunion was under truly sad circumstances, their last semi-reunion was also reportedly not too happy as some of the members supported Louis Tomlinson’s solo performance after his mother’s death. Malik reportedly did not attend.

Did Reese Witherspoon make $1 Billion from a media company? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Elle Woods wasn’t just conquering courtrooms—she was running a full-blown empire. In 2021, Reese’s five-year-old baby, Hello Sunshine, sold for a whopping $900 million. The buyers? Some big-money media firms backed by Blackstone weren’t messing around.
Hello, Sunshine wasn’t your typical Hollywood production house, either. Reese built it in 2016 with a badass mission: to spotlight stories by women, for women. And boy, did it deliver—think Big Little Lies, The Morning Show, Gone Girl, and Little Fires Everywhere. Oh, and did we mention Reese even had her talk show? Classic overachiever energy, and we’re here for it.
The sale didn’t just make headlines—it turned heads. Blackstone threw down over $500 million in cash to scoop up investor shares, valuing the whole thing at a cool $900 million. But here’s the twist: Reese and...

After the novel became a smashing bestseller, there were a lot of people waiting for the Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine movie adaptation. From author Gail Honeyman, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine tells the story of Eleanor, a Scottish woman in her late 20s who is highly intelligent but socially awkward. Along with avoiding interacting with her colleagues, Eleanor spends her weekends in her apartment drinking heavily by herself. However, as she begins to confront some of the trauma of her past, the protagonist also learns to open up to those around her.
Released in 2017, the novel received high acclaim from critics and won the Costa Debut Novel Award. It also became a hit with the public, as over 2.5 million copies have been sold (via Harper Collins). Not surprisingly, it didn't take too long before that success caught the attention of Hollywood. Andras Hamori, the Hungarian film and television producer whose credits included Atom Egoyan’s The Sweet Hereafter, István Szabó’s Sunshine and David Cronenberg’s eXistenZ, has died. He was 71.

Hamori, who worked out of Toronto early in his career and was a partner in Alliance Entertainment, also guided the cult horror classic The Gate (1987), starring Stephen Dorff in his first major role; Stephen Frears’ Chéri (2009), starring Michelle Pfeiffer; and the 2014 History Channel miniseries Houdini, starring Adrien Brody.

Hungarian film and television producer Andras Hamori, who produced films like “Crash” and “Sunshine” and shows such as “The Gate,” died Sept. 2. He was 71.
Some of Hamori’s other credits through the late ’90s and early 2000s include films like “The Sweet Hereafter,” “eXistenZ,” “Max,” “Owning Mahowny” and “Formula 51.” From 1991-1993 he served as producer for all 66 episodes of “Tropical Heat” and in 2014 he produced the History Channel miniseries “Houdini” starring Adrien Brody.
Starting as a film critic and short filmmaker in 1970s Budapest, Hamori was first encouraged to move to North America and chase his film-producing dreams by Hungarian-Canadian theater director John Hirsch. In 1981, armed with a print of one of his shorts, Hamori moved to Toronto, temporarily shacking up in Hirsch’s basement.

Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy shares a unique reflection on his career after taking home an Oscar for his role in the Christopher Nolan film. Hitting theaters last year and serving as one half of the "Barbenheimer" phenomenon alongside Greta Gerwig's Barbie, Nolan's biopic of American theoretical physicist and atomic bomb architect J. Robert Oppenheimer was a massive success both critically and commercially. Oppenheimer reviews were glowing, and Murphy, who had previously starred mostly in smaller movies or in supporting roles, was a major point of praise.
In a recent interview with Associated Press ahead of the release of his new film, Small Things Like These, Murphy reflects on what it was like to win an Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer. The actor calls the experience "humbling," while also celebrating one added bonus of becoming an Oscar-winner: it can help smaller movies get made. Check out Murphy's comment below...

[Editor’s Note: This interview contains some spoilers for “Small Things Like These.”]
“I didn’t want to play him like a hero. I think he’s actually having a nervous breakdown.”
Coming from Cillian Murphy, it would be fair to think he was talking about his Oscar-winning turn as the father of the atom bomb in last year’s Best Picture recipient, “Oppenheimer,” which wove back and forth through time as the scientist copes with the fallout of his monstrous creation. Instead, Murphy was talking about a character that hits a little closer to home for him, albeit in ways that may, surprisingly, draw comparison with his previous performance.
Set in Murphy’s native Ireland, in the small town of New Ross circa Christmas 1985, “Small Things Like These” revolves around Bill Furlong (Murphy), a coal distributor, husband, father of five daughters, and well-respected community member. Until Bill makes a discovery at the local convent that unearths deeply buried...

In his Ama on r/movies, director and co-writer Ethan Berger gamely answered a couple dozen thirsting filmmakers about how he got his script for “The Line” (2023) produced. This is the part where I tell you what he said. And, I must warn you. If you are a filmmaker who wants something produced, you may be disappointed. We always are. We are disappointed because Ethan Berger wrote, in far more humble terms, what they always write: that the actors loved the script.
So, I went into this viewing, of a screener on my television, knowing this. Oh, brother. We got a big great script coming up. Arms folded, on the attack. Thinks he’s Schrader, over here… Well, the script is fabulous. The cast, including Alex Wolff, Austin Abrams, and Halle Bailey, burst off the screen. Suitably ravenous. Outside of the obsessively designed world of Ari Aster’s “Hereditary,” Mr.
