It’s always interesting to see big time directors go against type and into a genre we don’t necessarily associate them with. We have Mount Rushmore type horror directors like John Carpenter and Wes Craven giving us thoughtful entries into their catalogues like Starman and Music of the Heart. On the flip side of that, what happens when a director known for Oscar worthy drama, gangster, and period piece movies goes all in on a scary movie? How did that movie miss out on any major awards nominations even with it being considered prestige horror? How many different adaptations of Denis Lehane’s novel would we get? Take the boat over before the storm hits as we find out what happened to Shutter Island.

As soon as he was hired to write the score for Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II,” Harry Gregson-Williams knew that he’d need to come to terms with the music Hans Zimmer had written for the original “Gladiator” in 2000. “I’ve done sequels before, but this was perhaps a bit more complex emotionally since I’m buddies with Hans, and his score for the original is so loved, quite rightly,” he said. But just as Scott used a couple of flashbacks to Russell Crowe’s character, Maximus, but spent most of his time on Paul Mescal, who plays Crowe’s son, Lucius, Gregson-Williams wanted to be sparing with the quotes from Zimmer’s themes.
“There’s 100 minutes of score in this movie, and probably five or six minutes that contain Hans’ themes,” he said. “At the end of the film, I wanted to just slip into Hans’ theme as if it evolved there naturally.

Film audiences may have first recognized Ben Affleck for his appearance in the 1992 film "School Ties," where he played the main sidekick of the film's central bully. In 1993, Affleck was already behind the camera as well, having made a rather notorious 16-minute short film called "I Killed My Lesbian Wife, Hung Her on a Meat Hook, and Now I Have a Three-Picture Deal at Disney." Affleck played a boorish womanizer named Shannon in Kevin Smith's 1995 comedy "Mallrats," and he teamed with Smith again in 1997 to make the stirring queer romantic drama "Chasing Amy." At the end of 1997, Affleck and his friend Matt Damon became awards darlings thanks to Gun Van Sant's "Good Will Hunting" which they both wrote and starred in.
Affleck has remained a superstar ever since, having appeared in terse studio dramas, mainstream romances, and numerous action films. He played the superheroes Daredevil and Batman and continued to work with Kevin Smith.

Ben Affleck hasn’t always had the best relationship with critics in the past. Still, over time, the actor has learned not to let their opinions affect his work.
How Ben Affleck responded to critics Ben Affleck | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
For actors, criticism is usually par for the course. Affleck is no exception. Journalists have critically praised and derided his movies. There are times, however, when Affleck has listened and given honest assessments to his own critics. Even when the majority of them might not have enjoyed a particular film. For instance, he understood why certain film reviewers weren’t too happy with his superhero blockbuster Batman v Superman, which earned a 29% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“I can understand people saying [Batman v Superman] was too dark, or this was outside the tone of what I’m used to seeing with a Batman story, and I think that’s a fair criticism,” Affleck once told Empire (via Esquire).

Jennifer Lopez is seemingly always busy, juggling her acting and music career all at once. Her work ethic has paid off big time over the years. But despite Lopez’s accomplishments, an insider claimed Affleck felt his ex-wife was capable of much more.
Ben Affleck Allegedly Felt That Jennifer Lopez Needed to Change Her Career Plans Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck | Rodin Eckenroth/FilmMagic
If anyone knows what a career overhaul takes, it’s Affleck. Although his career was off to a good start after Good Will Hunting, his stock plummeted quickly in the mid-2000s. Doing a long stretch of under-performing films, in addition to his controversial relationship with Lopez at the time, drove Affleck away from Hollywood.
This hiatus was needed, however, as it inspired Affleck to reboot his career. He returned by acting in features like Hollywoodland and directing Gone Baby Gone, intentionally focusing on much more meaningful projects.

Beverly Hills Cop star Judge Reinhold has paid tribute to his longtime friend and colleague John Ashton, who has passed away at 76 following a battle with cancer.
The duo memorably played the ‘by the book’ police partners Taggart and Rosewood in the hit comedy franchise starring Eddie Murphy. Ashton was the straight man and Reinhold the clown in what became a beloved comedy pairing in the movies.
Reinhold said last night: “Thursday night John seemed like he was sleeping but the Yankees were on. They won the game, clinched the division then John made it to home. Forty years of laughs on screen and off. John Lived his life! My brother, my partner, my Sarge – I love you. There’s no smoking in Heaven, John.”

The film premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival earlier this month and received a limited theatrical release last weekend. It's currently boasting a 73% approval rating on review aggregator RottenTomatoes and a 63% on the Popcornmeter.

Ben Affleck was never encouraged to become a full-time actor despite deeply admiring the world of arts and theater. The actor’s mother wanted him to become a teacher. Either way, she allowed Ben and his brother Casey to explore the entertainment field.
But when Affleck developed a bond with Matt Damon, things began taking a serious turn. Between the ages of 8-15, Affleck starred in children’s shows produced by PBS and ABC, casting him to play roles in Wanted: A Perfect Man and Hands of a Stranger.

Ben Affleck proved himself a capable filmmaker with his crime thriller Gone Baby Gone. But his directorial debut was met with bad luck when it crossed paths with a real-life true crime case with familiar parallels.

Gone Baby Gone already dealt with a very serious and sensitive subject. The Casey Affleck feature revolved around the disappearance of a young Boston girl and the race to find her whereabouts. Around the same time, reports of a real-life missing girl made national headlines.

Inspirational sports dramas usually share key elements — struggle, setbacks, perseverance and hard-fought triumph. Even more effective if the movie centers on a disadvantaged protagonist, either economically or physically, to inject that underdog spirit. Debuting director William Goldenberg has all of that in Unstoppable, the incredible true story of wrestler Anthony Robles, who was born with only one leg but never let that stop him from going after his dream. The special sauce here, however, is the bond of love and support through tough times between Anthony and his mother Judy, stirringly portrayed by Jharrel Jerome and Jennifer Lopez.

Born in 1972, Affleck first gained notice as a hot young actor with supporting performances in movies such as “School Ties” (1992), “Dazed and Confused” (1993) and “Mallrats” (1995). Plot: Rory and Cobby are reluctant partners: a desperate father and an ex-con thrown together to rob a corrupt politician’s ill-gained earnings. But when the heist goes wrong, the two find themselves engulfed in a whirlwind of chaos, pursued not only by police but also by backward bureaucrats and vengeful crime bosses. Completely out of their depth, they convince Rory’s therapist to join their riotous getaway through the city, where they must put aside their differences and work together to evade capture — or worse.

The Apple TV+ drama series “Sugar” has provided a showcase for a number of its stars, with the cast led by Colin Farrell but also including terrific turns from the likes of James Cromwell and Amy Ryan.
The neo-noir detective drama follows Farrell as a private investigator who searches for the missing granddaughter of a Hollywood producer. Created by “Thor” and “I Am Legend” screenwriter Mark Protosevich, the series is an homage-filled thriller that updates and pays dividends to the noir detective genre. Ryan shines in her role as Melanie Matthews, who used to be the step-daughter of the missing Olivia and develops something of a relationship with Farrell’s detective. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck once appeared in a couple of movies together during the first phase of their relationship. But Kirsten Dunst believed this had an unwanted impact regarding celebrity couples in movies.
How Kirsten Dunst felt ‘Gigli’ affected making movies with her own partner Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez | Christopher Polk/Getty Images
Gigli came out during a particular low-point in Affleck’s career. A few of his movies weren’t doing too well at the time, and his relationship with Lopez was being scrutinized in the media. Gigli didn’t help matters, either. The Martin Best-directed comedy film saw Lopez and Affleck collaborating for the first time. Because of the attention their relationship was generating with the media, some felt this would’ve translated into box-office success.
But the theory couldn’t have been more wrong, and Gigli just opened Affleck and Lopez up to more criticism.

On a recent episode of Jeopardy!, Grant DeYoung was looking for his third straight win. However, his two challengers left a little to be desired. In the final round, only one was left and his answer caused Ken Jennings to get short with him as DeYoung won again.
Here is the final Jeopardy! question and why Jennings was frustrated by this moment in the show.
Ken Jennings Short After Bad Jeopardy! Answers
By the time the Final Jeopardy! rolled around, only two competitors remained. The third, Rachel Shelton, had $0 heading into the finals, so she had to leave the game at that point. This means that Grant DeYoung was trying to win his third game in a row against Nick Coombs.
Jennings had already expressed disappointment when Rachel Shelton bet it all on the Daily Double. She went all-in with $7,000 and then missed the question. Ken seemed sad to see her fall,...

It’s a fairly big month on Prime Video in March, at least compared to the other streaming service offerings! There are are two major films arriving on Amazon’s streamer. The first is a remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic Road House. Stepping into the late Swayze’s shoes? A crazy-jacked Jake Gyllenhaal, who really seemed to want to go the extra mile for this project.
The other big film coming to Prime Video is Ricky Stanicky, and the plot sounds really fun! It follows three friends who have always blamed their mistakes on an imaginary guy called Ricky Stanicky. When they have to finally introduce people to Stanicky, they decide to hire a washed-up actor (John Cena) to impersonate him. Hilarity ensues, maybe? But if neither of those make your watchlist, there’s also the return of the animated hit series Invincible.
