Less than a day after the announcement, the director has now received a letter from the Tamil film’s producer ‘Aascar' V Ravichandran of Aascar Film Private Limited who claims to have bought the full rights of the story from Tamil writer Sujatha. Ravichandran, in his letter, claims to hold the rights to the film’s storyline. “The entire story rights were purchased by me from the writer Sujatha (alias late Rangarajan) for which full payment was done by me to him and necessary records are also available. I am the whole and sole owner of the rights of the storyline.

Bollywood star Ranveer Singh and filmmaker S. Shankar are teaming for a Hindi-language remake of 2005 Tamil-language blockbuster “Anniyan.”

Shankar is known for his big-budget extravaganzas including “Sivaji” (2007), “Enthiran” (2010) and its sequel “2.0” (2018), all starring superstar Rajinikanth, and “Indian” (1996), starring actor-turned-politician Kamal Hassan. The “Anniyan” remake “will be mounted on a gigantic cinematic canvas,” say the makers.

“Anniyan” features one of Shankar’s pet themes, that of an everyman taking the law into his own hands to fight a corrupt system. The original was dubbed into Hindi and released as ‘Aparichit” in 2006. Chinese production and distribution company, Hy Media has picked up mainland China distribution rights to blockbuster Indian film “2.0.” Starring South Indian superstar, Rajinikanth, the film was by some measures the highest grossing movie in the world last weekend.

“2.0” is understood to be the first Rajinikanth-starring film released in China in recent times. In Kaala, the actor's styling has once again made waves. Dressed entirely in black and sporting a pair of dark shades, Rajini sports a salt and pepper look. Sunglasses, in fact, have become a Rajini staple in recent times, lending him a classy look that suits his age. Here's a glimpse of the various superstar props that have sent the crowds wild over the years: Thundu The way Rajinikanth would throw his thundu (the piece of folded cloth) in the air and make it land again on his shoulder is legendary. He has used this prop to great effect in films like Ejamaan and Muthu. In Padayappa, which was all about a rich, arrogant woman lusting after his style, Rajini used the 'thundu' trick to create one of the most epic scenes ever. When Nilambari invites him home and removes all the furniture save her chair, Padayappa uses his thundu to bring down the big swing and seat himself in it. The scene still sends Rajini fans into paroxysms of joy. Stick Rajini's expertise in wielding the stick, which was a common prop in Tamil films of the '90s, was evident in films like Arunachalam. Twirling it with one hand and planting it on the ground assertively was a Rajini trick that was sure to draw whistles from the audience. Pipe Rajini has always excelled in playing roles with negative shades. He used the pipe in films like Netrikann, Billa and Johnny to build the bad boy image though he also played the hero in these films. The pipe in Tamil cinema has usually been used to suggest a rich background, and though Rajini played the underdog in several films, he was equally convincing in suits. Mouth organ In Padayappa, the mouth organ was another prop Rajini used effectively to suggest romance, style and also snub his arch-enemy Nilambari, played by Ramya Krishnan. One rupee coin If you wondered what could possibly be done with a coin, then you haven’t seen Rajinikanth do it. In Sivaji the Boss, this one rupee coin is his style prop. He flips it from one hand to the other, before tossing it in the air or into his pocket, a feat that can only be pulled off by the superstar. Cigarette/Beedi Rajinikanth's tricks with the cigarette/beedi are immensely popular. From chucking it in the air and catching it between his lips to lighting it with a loaded gun, Thalaivar has done it all. Several films like Annamalai, Baba, Moondru Mugam, Baasha, and Padayappa saw the superstar flicking his cigarette. Baasha, his most iconic film till date, had a song called 'Azhagu' which was basically a celebration of how Rajini can make the most innocuous actions stylish - sure enough, the cigarette features in it too. Chewing gum Though Rajini's cigarette style won him thousands of fans, the actor issued a 'stop smoking' message to his followers on his 63rd birthday. He confessed that he'd suffered from several health issues because of his smoking. Former Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss had also urged the actor to stop glorifying smoking in his films. In Shankar's Sivaji, Rajini shifted to the chewing gum. He flicked the gum to his palm and managed to get it into his mouth! Sunglasses Rajini has worn sunglasses in several films - Dharma Yuddham, Baasha, Padayappa, Chandramukhi, Endhiran, Lingaa, Kabali - to mention a few. Like the pipe, the sunglasses usually appeared when Rajini was playing a character who was considered rich or to suggest his makeover from 'innocent and poor' to 'enlightened and wealthy'. Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth, the two mightiest superstars of Indian cinema-with due respects to Salman Khan-are all set to clash at the box office in a most unexpected way. Rajinikanth's new film, the eagerly awaited Kabali opens on July 22, alongside Steven Spielberg's childhood fantasia The Bfg in which Big B lends his voice to the main character of a giant played by Mark Rylance. While this in itself may not be seen as a direct confrontation between the two behemoths frantic efforts are on to avert the "clash" between Rajinikanth and the Bachchan baritone. Apparently, Reliance and Fox-Star, the distributors of The Bfg and Kabali, respectively, are trying to work out an "amicable compromise" so that the two films do not suffer from the impending clash. Mumbai, Jan 20: He has sung in his mother-tongue Tamil as well as Hindi and now composer A.R. Rahman has crooned his first Punjabi number "Maahi Ve" for Imtiaz Ali's "Highway". He said it was easier than Hindi.

"First of all, I am singing in Punjabi, nobody complimented me," the Oscar winning composer told reporters at an event here.

He is known for going behind the mike for Tamil hits such as "Oruvan Oruvan" ("Muthu"), "Sandakkozhi" ("Aaytha Ezhuthu") and "Athiradee" from ("Sivaji"). In Hindi, he has sung hit numbers "Hamma Hammma" and "Khwaja mere khwaja".

When asked how did he pick up the language, Rahman said: "I am a fan of the language, I have been listening to Nusrat (Fateh Ali Khan) saab's songs for the.

Chennai, Jan 12: Southern actor Suman Talwar is extremely happy that Akshay Kumar referred his name for a role in upcoming film "Gabbar", which will also mark his debut in Bollywood.

"I received quite a few Bollywood offers after my performance in 'Sivaji', but nothing excited me as much as 'Gabbar'. When I came to know that Akshay Kumar had referred my name to the director, I was really touched and extremely happy. I would like to thank him for the opportunity," Suman told Ians.

"Gabbar", which is being directed by Krrish, is the Hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster "Ramanna". Akshay plays the lead in the film that also.

Chennai, Oct 6: Some call it coincidence, but every time S.P. Balasubramanyam (Spb) has crooned the title track of a Rajinikanth-starrer, the song as well as the film have turned out to be a blockbuster. Now all eyes are set on the superstar's "Kochadaiiyaan".

The song from the movie is slated to release Monday.

"The song 'Engae pogudho vaanam' crooned by Spb, lyrics by Vairamuthu and music by A.R. Rahman will be released online tomorrow (Monday)," posted Sony Music on its Twitter page.

Over the years, Spb has crooned the title track for Rajinikanth's Tamil films such as "Baasha", "Muthu", "Arunachalam", "Padayappa", "Chandramukhi", "Sivaji" and "Enthiran". All the films were blockbusters.

Chennai, Sep 24: The late Tamil acting legend Sivaji Ganeshan, whose birth anniversary falls on Oct 1, will be accorded a very special tribute -- a whistling ensemble will render a number of songs from the thespian's films at a concert here. Actors such as M.S. Bhaskar and Y.G. Mahendran are expected to perform too.

"We will perform 28 songs from Sivaji Ganeshan's films during the course of a three-hour programme. The proceeds from the event will go to Little Hearts, an organisation that works for the upliftment of the underprivileged," R. Arun Kumar, head of the South Zone Whistle Association, told Ians.

Chennai, May 23: Tamil actor Dhanush, who is awaiting the release of debut Hindi movie "Raanjhanaa" and Tamil romantic-drama "Mariyaan", has signed on the dotted line to work in a yet-to-be-titled Tamil film with cinematographer-turned-director K.V. Anand.

"Yes guys. Much to the delight of you all and myself, I'm doing a film with K.V. Anand sir. The technicians are yet to b finalised. (I will) shoot from August," posted Dhanush on his Twitter page.

Anand is known for directing Tamil films such as "Mattrraan", "Ko" and "Ayan". As a cinematographer, he has worked in films such as "Khakee", "Sivaji", "Nayak" and "Josh".

Chennai, Nov 22: Superstar Rajnikanth, who turns 62 next month, has two special birthday gifts lined up for his special day. His birthday falls Dec 12.

Firstly, the 3D version of his blockbuster film "Sivaji" will be released on the same day. And second, another Tamil film titled "Alex Pandian", which is named after the character the actor essayed in the Tamil film "Moondru Mugam", will release its audio.

Incidentally, Avm Productions, the makers of "Sivaji" have planned to release the 3D version of the film all over Tamil Nadu on the actor's birthday.

Chennai, Oct 16: Visual effects designer V. Srinivas Mohan, known for his work in Tamil blockbusters such as "Enthiran", "Sivaji" and "Boys", Tuesday said the visual effects scene in India is still in its nascent stage because people have not familiarized themselves with the technology.

"Cost has never been a reason for not using visual effects in Indian cinema. We don't give the technology its due respect and resort to using shoddily presented visual effect scenes because we hesitate.
