The Maltese Falcon (1941)
After they arrive in Malta, Veronica asks Dominic what kind of birds there are in Malta. Dominic says there's the Maltese Falcon. The Exorcist (1973)
Veronica is possessed by an ancient entity and speaks in languages unknown to her, while a scientist is recording them, just like in "The Exorcist". Blatty's original novel was published in 1971 and Friedkin's popular film released in 1973, therefore it's possible that Mircea Eliade's 1976 novella was already inspired by it. Especially because the novella contains other references to popular culture and popular genres.Superman (1978)
Dominic describes himself as a "strange Superman of the future". While the original author Mircea Eliade didn't see the movie, when the novella was published in 1976, he certainly knew the comic character Superman. Coppola's film now references Superman in general, incl. the movies.Downfall (2004)
Three actors from the main cast act in both films. André Hennicke plays both times a Nazi and devoted follower of Adolf Hitler. The Good Shepherd (2006)
Matt Damon appears uncredited as an undercover CIA agent. Damon played a very similar character in De Niro's film which was set in a similar time period. The characters even look similar in both films.
