Once I started watching The Foot Fist Way, I had to look, and lo and behold this is McBrides first film and writing credit. You can tell McBride is in early development of his style of humor.
This is a good move, with good humor, but I wanted to see a laugh out loud movie, and this isn't it. This is a very serious drama, which deals, with real world issues, and McBride is very serious. Playing a man who, failed for obvious reasons to the audience, he isn't aware of his own issues, and is afraid to look at himself.
All the characters are, have real life emotions, and are struggling with life, and their self-esteem. This movie deserves a higher rating, but it's not for me. I don't like to watch real dramas...I have plenty of my own, lol.
But if you're into hyper-realism, this is for you. Obviously, there are good jokes, as expected...but too far apart.
Enjoy!
P. S. Some of the stunt-work looked very real...and I suspect because it was real.
