***SPOILERS*** Let. Det. Frank Ballinger, Lee Marvin, together with his boss Captain Gray,Paul Newlan, go on stake-out duty to crack a drug smuggling ring out of car saleswoman Eve Parker's, Marti Stevens, parking garage. Eve is being used by her boyfriend Roger Taylor, King Calder, to have heroin smuggled into the Port of Chicago in expensive sports-cars delivered from overseas. Working with Taylor is the creepy Mr. Corvin, Ross Martin, who does most of the dirty work, like smashing the sports-car owners skulls in, for him.. It's Corvin who in the end when he's caught red-handed and tried to save his hide by framing Eve, in not only being his lover but his boss in the drug smuggling operation, that he cracked under the strain and ratted out his real boss Roger Taylor.
Also working with the smuggling ring is garage attendant Howard Harley,Thom Camey, who tricked rookie detective Dave Price, Bill Cord, into looking the other way when, with Ballinger & Grey on a lunch brake, on stake-out duty he's engaged in a meaningless conversation with Corvin who claimed to be a tenant in the apartment building that Eve is staying at while Harley grabbed the dope out of the car that he was supposed to be watching!
***SPOILERS*** Ballinger now getting the drop on Taylor, after Corvin fingered him, chases him all through Chicago to the railroad yards where he finally apprehended him. That's after Tayor made a break for it in Eve's apartment when both Ballinger & Capt. Grey raided it. Both Taylor & Corvin got sent away for 20 years and Eve, who was totally innocent in the matter, got educated in knowing how to pick both her friends as well as lovers in the future.
