Eleven years have gone by since the release of a new entry in the Scary Movie horror parody series – but the franchise isn’t going to remain dormant for much longer. Back in April, it was announced that the Miramax label at Paramount, which is now operating under new boss Jonathan Glickman, had given the greenlight to a new Scary Movie sequel, with the plan being to get the film into theatres sometime in 2025. We recently learned that the series is being revived with the help of the people who got it started in the first place: the Wayans Brothers – and now Regina Hall, who played the character Brenda Meeks in the first four movies, has said she thinks it would be fun to come back and work on the new sequel with the Wayans.

Scary Movie Films At The Worldwide Box Office( Photo Credit – YouTube )
There are two kinds of people: those who enjoy horror movies and those who dislike them. For the second group, there are movies that make scary funny. The Scary Movie franchise is the perfect thing to watch with your friends who are not that fond of horror movies. It is a series of parody films focused on spoofing horror films. It was developed by the Wayan brothers—Keenen Ivory, Shawn, and Marlon. The trio is once again reuniting for the Scary Movie reboot.
The reboot was announced at CinemaCon, and the Wayan brothers are reuniting after 18 years. For the unversed, Keenen wrote and directed the first two movies, while Marlon and Shawn wrote and starred in them. They were produced by Dimension Films with Miramax Films.
According to Deadline’s report, the Scary Movie reboot will begin filming next year.

Franchise creators Marlon, Shawn and Keenan Wayans are reuniting for the first time in 18 years to write and produce Scary Movie 6.
Scary Movie arrived at exactly the right time to capture the cultural zeitgeist in 2000. Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer were ripe for ribbing, and in Anna Faris and Regina Hall they found the perfect blend of silliness and deadpan reactions that the central characters of Cindy and Brenda needed to make the film work.
According to Deadline, Shawn, Marlon and Keenan Wayans are reuniting for the first time in 18 years to write Scary Movie 6 for Miramax and Paramount. They will also produce with Rick Alvarez. With the popularity of the Terrifier films and recent legacy sequels and prequels in the Scream and Saw franchises, there’s no shortage of material for them to draw on.

As a wise Wayans once said, "Watching TV shows doesn't create psycho killers — cancelling TV shows does!" So perhaps it's the recent epidemic of streamers swinging the axe that's responsible for today's announcement that the Wayans brothers — Marlon, Keenan Ivory, and Shawn — are returning to their iconic Scary Movie horror parody franchise after 18 years away. Per Deadline's reporting, the brothers are working with Rick Alvarez on a script for the slasher series' sixth instalment — and Marlon Wayans took to Instagram earlier to celebrate the exciting news. Check out his post below:

Williams’s claim of having an Iq of 163 immediately sparked interest and skepticism. To put this in perspective, an Iq score of 160 and above is considered genius, comparable to that of renowned physicists and mathematicians. Along with this claim, Katt Williams has mentioned other impressive feats of intelligence, such as being able to read fluently by the age of three and having read over 3,000 books in his lifetime.

Many horror fans probably know that one of the working titles for Wes Craven's 1996 slasher revival "Scream" was "Scary Movie." "Scream," if you'll recall, was a metanarrative horror film, a slasher populated by teenage characters who were movie-savvy enough to recognize they were, themselves, in a slasher situation. The killer had seen "Halloween" and "Friday the 13th," and arranged his murders accordingly. As a character says late in the film, "Movies don't create killers. Movies make killers creative."
"Scream" almost immediately entrenched itself in the pop consciousness, tapping into 1990s self-awareness and reviving the moribund slasher genre for the irony generation. It also wasn't long before the culture became self-aware of its own self-awareness, and thought to dissect the very act of dissection. The ironic mockery of irony was the dominant ethos of the late 1990s. Listen to Harvey Danger's "Flagpole Sitta" sometime for another example of the attitude at play.

We all celebrated when it was announced that Neve Campbell would finally be getting her due salary for another Scream movie. That may take care of Sidney Prescott, what about Cindy Campbell, her spoof counterpart? As it turns out, Anna Faris – who played the central character in the Scary Movie franchise – is also down for reprising her character…and for the same reason, no less.
When People asked Anna Faris what it would take to get her to sign on for another Scary Movie entry, the actress was straight up in her response: “Well, money!” Cindy Campbell served as the primary protagonist of the first four Scary Movie installments, outsmarting any Ghostface that came her way. But Faris sat out Scary Movie 5, which came out in 2013, seven years after the fourth movie.

Anna Faris has a few non-negotiables if she were to reprise her role for the new Scary Movie installment.
Paramount and Miramax announced earlier this year that they’re making another film after director Malcom D. Lee’s Scary Movie 5 in 2013. The actress, who played Cindy Campbell in the franchise’s first four films from 2000 to 2006, recently shared with People magazine what it would take for her to join the upcoming movie.
“Well, money!” Faris said with a laugh. But she “would love to reprise” her role if she also knew her former Scary Movie co-star Regina Hall, who played her character’s best friend Brenda, was returning as well.
“I would love to work with Regina again. I just love her so much,” the My Spy: The Eternal City actress added. “We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money.

Melissa Barrera had the lead role of Samantha Carpenter in the 2022 Scream film and its follow-up Scream VI, and she was all set to reprise the role in Scream 7… until she was fired from the project after comments she made about the Israel-Hamas war didn’t go over well with executives at Spyglass Media. Now Barrera, who can currently be seen on the big screen in the vampire movie Abigail, has revealed that she’s interested in doing something no other major Scream star has done before: she would like to cross over into the Scary Movie parody franchise, which got started with a movie that used the first Scream as a major source of inspiration, by landing a role in the recently announced Scary Movie 6.

Over ten years since the forgettable Scary Movie 5, we’re now getting Scary Movie 6, which is arriving in 2025. More here.
Infamously taking the original title intended for the first Scream film, the spoof Scary Movie arrived in cinemas all the way back in the summer of 2000, and promptly outgrossed the film that it was basically taking the piss out of. Along with its first sequel, that arrived a year later, it was directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans, and the modestly-costed films returned sizeable profits.
Not that they were much cop after the first film. David Zucker took over for Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4, in 2003 and 2006 respectively, and both in truth veer on the ‘best forgotten’ side. It took seven more years before we got Scary Movie 5, with Malcolm D Lee this time directing, and the quality of that film seemed to have driven the franchise into the ground for good.

Eleven years have gone by since the release of a new entry in the Scary Movie horror parody series – but the franchise isn’t going to remain dormant for much longer. Deadline reports that the Miramax label at Paramount, which is now operating under new boss Jonathan Glickman, has given the greenlight to a new Scary Movie sequel, with the plan being to get the film into theatres sometime in 2025. If any writers or a director are attached to the project, they weren’t named in this announcement.

It's been more than 10 years since the world was subjected to the last "Scary Movie" sequel, but as is the case with any famous horror movie villain, it's practically impossible to keep this series down forever. And now Paramount Pictures plans to breathe new life into this particular franchise. The studio will be teaming up with Miramax to resurrect the "Scary Movie" franchise with a brand new installment. Production begins this fall, and the film will be in theaters in 2025.
Variety reports that producer Neal H. Moritz, who is best known for producing the "Fast and Furious" movies for Universal, will be producing this new iteration. Moritz was not directly associated with any of the previous five "Scary Movie" films, but interestingly, he did produce a couple of horror flicks that were parodied in those early versions, including "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Urban Legend." Paramount and Miramax are making a new take on the franchise and expect to go before cameras in the fall, Paramount revealed at CinemaCon Thursday. Fast and Furious producer Neal H. Moritz will produce the new Scary Movie.
Scary Movie launched in 2000, just a few years after Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer arrived on the scene to dominate the horror landscape. Director Keenen Ivory Wayans’ feature grossed $278 million globally and starred Anna Faris, Regina Hall and sparked four sequels, with director Malcom D. Lee’s Scary Movie 5 debuting in 2013.
Miramax will finance the new Scary Movie and Paramount will distribute. The news comes after Miramax named Jonathan Glickman CEO.

Fun trivia: one of the working titles for Wes Craven's 1996 slasher satire "Scream" was "Scary Movie." Filmmaker Keenan Ivory Wayans got wind of this trivia, and decided in 2000 to make a film called "Scary Movie" intended to satirize the popularity of "Scream." The late 1990s were a curious time in popular culture, as there weren't too many dominant horror trends. Popular music was beginning to comment on its own self-awareness (see: "Flagpole Sitta") and irony became ironic. Self-reflection went from a healthy Socratic exercise into a loop of eternal recurrence. By 2000, we became so busy commenting on our own commentaries, that it was hard to see where we started. This is where "Scary Movie" dropped in.
Make no mistake, "Scary Movie" is unfunny, as are its many sequels. They're cheap, homophobic, and vulgar. Wayans took his model from spoof filmmakers like Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker, but aimed to make something...

With so many horrible sequels available, picking the ten worst sequels of all time was challenging. Indeed, there have been numerous instances where sequels have fallen far short of their original counterparts, making them infamous examples of ‘how not to do a sequel.’
Thankfully, viewers on IMDb did most of the work for us, sharing their valuable insights and ratings, which we’ve used to compile this list.
What follows is a painstakingly curated breakdown of each terrible sequel. We delve into what specifically made these follow-ups lackluster and disappointing. Some of these sequels found their unfortunate place on this list despite being birthed from incredibly successful and well-received franchises.
They had every ingredient for success – a captive audience, proven characters, and established lore, yet they managed to fumble. Conversely, others continued on an already rocky path of subpar predecessor films, cementing their series as characterized by chronic cinematic failure.

Filmmaker David Zucker was one of the biggest names in comedy in the 1980s thanks to the success of classic comedies like “Airplane!” and “The Naked Gun” franchise, but he no longer believes either film could be made by Hollywood in 2022. Well they could, “just without the jokes.” In a new interview (via Mediaite), Zucker said Hollywood is “destroying comedy” by being overly sensitive.
“We could be as offensive as we liked,” Zucker said about his directing career, which also included helming “Scary Movie 3” and “Scary Movie 4.” “We went where the laughs were. We never thought that we were offending anyone, but if we were offending people we knew we were on the right track. As time went on, it got to be the ’90s and the 2000s and it did change… We never worried about any of this stuff with the ‘Naked Gun’ or ‘Scary Movie’ films.

Prime Video got off to a fast start this summer with the release of The Boys season 3 on June 3. Now, as we enter the dog days, Prime Video is set to keep the warm weather good times rolling with a new twist on an old classic. That’s right, Amazon’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by some good old-fashioned baseball.
A League of Their Own, the TV adaptation of Penny Marshall’s 1992 movie, is set to premiere on Aug. 12. Like the movie before it, the series will dramatize the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League which saw women playing America’s pastime while the major leagues were on pause for World War II. Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) co-created the show and will star as catcher Carson Shaw.

Amazon’s series version of “A League of Their Own” will debut its eight-episode first season on Aug. 12, introducing new characters and stories set in the historical opening of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aagpbl).
Ron Howard’s “Thirteen Lives” tells the real-life story of how a young boys’ soccer team was rescued from the Thai mountain cave where they got stuck for 10 days along with their coach.
Other new film arrivals include hits from earlier this summer, “The Lost City” starring Sandra Bullock, Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt, as well as “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” Academy Award-nominated film “Licorice Pizza” also arrives on Prime Video this month.
Freevee will also have new arrivals this month.

If you didn’t Meet The Blacks in 2016, they’re back this weekend in Deon Taylor’s second horror-comedy installment.
The first film was a send-up of The Purge. This one – The House Next Door: Meet The Blacks 2 — goes gothic. Star Mike Epps returns as Carl Black, about to face off with a neighbor from hell, Dr. Mamuwalde (Katt Williams). He’s a pimp who may or may not be a vampire and Carl’s got to figure out what he’s up to in the middle of the night before it’s too late for him and his family.

While 2013’s Scary Movie 5 is widely considered as one of the worst of a very bad bunch of cheap and nasty spoof flicks, it’s surprisingly finding a lot of love on Netflix right now. That’s right, Malcolm D. Lee’s bottom-of-the-barrel-scraping horror comedy has been featured in the streaming giant’s Top 10 for almost all of this week. I’m guessing quality isn’t too high on folks’ agendas at the moment. As long as you’re being entertained though, right? Don’t worry, we won’t judge you here.
Boasting a jaw-droppingly awful Rotten Tomatoes score of 4%, it’s safe to say that critics weren’t overly impressed with the fifth entry in the infamous horror parody franchise. Indeed, the popular review aggregator sums it up best: “Juvenile even by Scary Movie standards, this fifth...

If you’re a Netflix subscriber, you’re probably rarely without something interesting to watch in your spare time, as the platform has consistently churned out hit after hit, both in terms of beloved films and original programming. Thankfully, August has only cemented that fact further, offering a wide collection of classic movies and brand new original films and shows that have already done well for themselves.
Subscribers seeking a big dose of nostalgia, for instance, can dive into the entire Jurassic Park trilogy, The NeverEnding Story and its sequel, the original Mad Max or the live-action Dennis the Menace movie. Meanwhile, huge original drops, like the third and final season of The Rain or the Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt flick Project Power, have done exceptionally well and are doing their part to keep everyone engaged throughout the month.

It’s a pretty quiet Wednesday for Netflix today, but three new titles have been added to the streaming service all the same. And these fresh additions are made up of a foreign language film, a brand new Netflix Original documentary series and, er, pretty much one of the worst horror and/or comedy movies ever made.
Here are the three titles dropping on the site this Wednesday, August 12th:
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020) N Scary Movie 5 (2013) (Un)Well (Season 1) N
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is an Indian Hindi-language biopic which tells the inspirational story of Gunjan Saxena (as played by Janhvi Kapoor), the first ever female pilot to serve in the Indian Air Force during combat. As with many other movies this year, it was supposed to reach cinemas a few months back but its theatrical release was cancelled due to the pandemic, with Netflix stepping in to distribute instead.

If you’re looking for the best streaming content you can get, you’re probably subscribed to Netflix. And that’s a great thing lately, as the platform has been dropping excellent titles week over week for months now. This month alone has already been great with the addition of the entire Jurassic Park trilogy, quirky flicks like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Being John Malkovich and, of course, the forgotten Adam Sandler comedy Mr. Deeds.
However, as exciting as some of this month’s new films and shows have been so far, today has brought along an absolutely horrible movie that would be better used as torture than entertainment. Earning itself an abysmal 4% on Rotten Tomatoes, today’s addition of Scary Movie 5 lives up to its name only in the sense that it’s terrifyingly terrible.

Building on a busy month for library expansions, Netflix are now planning to put up a number of new titles this week. In terms of what’s coming from August 10th to August 16th, highlights include four seasons of The Legend of Korra, original movie Project Power, and critical favorites such as Nightcrawler. What, then, can we expect from the streamer in the next few days?
Well, the aforementioned Project Power has been gradually generating buzz over its concept, wherein a drug lord provides users with a product that can temporarily grant superpowers. Set in New Orleans, the Netflix picture stars Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, with directing duties falling to Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. You can catch the trailer for this one up above, with the film arriving on August 14th.
