Unlike most of the other Korean television dramas which gained popularity before it, "Goong (Princess Hours)" the TV show is based on the manhwa or Korean serialised comic "Goong (Palace)", by So-hee Park. The TV show deviates a great deal from the events of the comic, such as the lack of Prince Shin's sister and presence of Chae-kyung/Chae-gyung's grandfather in the graphic novels, and most notably in the resolution of the divorce scenario (this arc is still ongoing in the manhwa).
