Every October, we stab them with knives, killing their regular appearances and bringing them to new life with sharpened teeth, ghoulish gazes, and impossibly wide, sinister smiles. We make pumpkins into little monsters every year, but what if they came to life on their own... and wanted revenge for the years of jack-o'-lantern carvings, discarded guts, and baked seeds? Darin Beckstead's Proof of Concept for his planned feature film, Evil Nature, expertly explores this unnerving "what if?" with ample amounts of holiday humor and creature-centric horror. We've been provided with the fun and frightening Evil Nature Proof of Concept to share with Daily Dead readers, along with an exclusive Q&A with director Darin Beckstead.

It looks like the role of Laurie Strode's granddaughter has been cast, giving Michael Myers multiple generations to haunt in the new Halloween movie.
According to The Tracking Board, actress Andi Matichak (Underground, Orange is the New Black) has been cast in one of the lead roles of the new Halloween movie, and it's presumed that she will play the granddaughter of Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) and the daughter of Karen Strode (played by Judy Greer).
Slated for an October 19th, 2018 release, the new Halloween movie will feature Laurie Strode's "final confrontation with Michael Myers," but with three generations of Strodes set to appear, The Shape will have more than just Laurie to contend with.
While Laurie did have a daughter named Jamie (played by Danielle Harris and J.C. Brandy) and then a son named John (played by Josh Hartnett) in the Halloween sequels, Danny McBride, who...

“Stranger Things” has joined “Twin Peaks,” “Mad Men,” and “Orange is the New Black” as shows so culturally relevant that they’ve merited a “Sesame Street” parody. Continuing a long tradition of making kid-friendly entertainment that’s actually meant to amuse parents, the 48-year-old PBS series recently released “Sharing Things,” an adorable take on Netflix’s Duffer Bros.-created nostalgia trip.

Like season two of “Stranger Things,” the six-minute send-up opens on Halloween night in Hawkins, Indiana. The Cookiegorgon (Cookie Monster) takes leave from “The Snackside Down” (where he is holding Barb captive), and dons a petaled headpiece to infiltrate our group of trick-or-treating young protagonists. Under a “Ghostbusters” costume, curly wig, and gap-toothed grin, Ernie plays a convincing Dustin, while Grover amps up his skittishness for the role of Lucas.

One of my favorite viewing experiences in 2016 was watching The Barn, Justin M. There can be little doubt that the opening sequence to any movie is possibly one of the most crucial moments in a picture. It often sets the tone for what is to come, and rarely fools the audience into thinking that they are watching a feature in particular that then suddenly changes course. There are exceptions, such as in Alfred Hitchcock‘s ‘Psycho‘ (1960) where, judging by it’s opening, you would be forgiven for thinking that you were about to watch a film about a love-struck secretary turned thief who goes on the run to be with her boyfriend, only then to run into a sharp knife while taking a shower that completely alters the course of what one is experiencing.

With 2017's Halloween season now in the rearview mirror, it's already time to start looking ahead to the autumn of 2018, which will feature the release of the first Halloween movie in nearly ten years. Written by Danny McBride and David Gordon Green, the next installment in the horror franchise has been hinted to take place in a separate timeline from the sequels, and in a recent interview, McBride discussed the "alternate reality" of the new movie and how it may even look at John Carpenter's original film in a different way.
Speaking with Yahoo, McBride had this to say about the timeline of the new Halloween movie:
"We’re kind of ignoring all the films past the first one. It picks up after the first one, but it’s sort of an alternate reality. It’s as if the first Halloween ended in a slightly different way."

These photos of a doctor dressed up as Heath Ledger's version of The Joker delivering a baby on Halloween night are both cool and kinda terrifying. The doctor's name is Paul Locus of the Henry County Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, and everyone had a sense of humor about it.
The doctor offered to change before delivering the healthy baby girl to Brittany and Justin Selph, but they thought it would be a fun and unique experience to have The Joker deliver their baby. Justin told Popsugar:
"We couldn't help but laugh, when he walked in the room! My wife, being the open-minded woman, with a sense of humor, thought it would be hilarious to have such a unique delivery."

It's obvious that something strange and eerie happened on Halloween Night on Dancing with the Stars when both Jordan Fisher and Lindsey Stirling are in the bottom half of the leaderboard. [To get you into the spooky spirit, the Daily Dead team is spotlighting double features that we think would be fun to watch this Halloween season. Check here for more double feature recommendations and other Halloween 2017 coverage.]
As horror lovers, we tend to spend most of October drowning ourselves in our favorite movies (even more than the rest of the year), revisiting those titles that remind us of the season or which have become an annual tradition. Never is this more true than on Halloween night, when so many of us have our go-to titles without which the holiday wouldn’t be complete: “It’s not Halloween unless I watch The Exorcist,” or “It’s not Halloween unless I watch the remake of The Fog!” Some of you are weird.

It may be Halloween 2017, but many horror fans are already looking forward to next fall when Laurie Strode and Michael Myers have one final confrontation in the new Halloween movie. To celebrate the big "31" on the calendar and look ahead to next year's autumn, Jamie Lee Curtis shared a new photo of her and Michael Myers.

After a seven-year hiatus, the notorious Jigsaw Killer has returned in time to claim Halloween.
But John Kramer’s reign at the top won’t last for long, as David Gordon Green and Jamie Lee Curtis are now in the process of courting Michael Myers back to the fray. The team dances on Halloween Night were a lopsided affair on Dancing with the Stars, according to the judges. Team Monster Mash earned a 24 for a very convoluted corn maze routine, and then Team Phantom of the Ballroom got a perfect score for their traditional dance. But did it deserve a 30 and raves from the judges who called it the most exquisite team dance ever?...

For Nikki Bella and Vanessa Lachey, getting cut at the end of Monday's Dancing With the Starswas a real shock.
It was Halloween Night on DWTS, and the episode ended up sending shivers down fans' spines when the show surprised everyone with a double elimination.
Nikki Bella and her pro partner, Artem Chigvintsev, were sent home, as were Vanessa Lachey and her partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
While the double elimination took the audience by surprise, it was even more unexpected for Bella, who told Et after the show that getting the axe "definitely hasn't sunk in."

Drew Scott and Emma Slater took a tumble while channeling their “weirdo” sides on Dancing with the Stars.
After head judge Len Goodman told the Property Brothers star that he delivered an “awkward-looking routine” during week six, Scott wanted to “prove to the judges and America that I still belong here” in week seven.
“Last week, we went full throttle with our dance and then we ended up on the bottom of the leader board. It just kind of rips the heart out of you. I mean, I am working my butt off. And to see how much work that...

Lindsey Stirling powered through some intense pain on Monday's Dancing With the Stars to deliver a spooky, stunning performance for the season's Halloween Night.
Stirling and her partner Mark Ballas dominated last week's DWTS, earning a perfect score for their Argentine tango and coming in at the top of the leaderboard. However, the violinist paid a significant price for their perfection.
"In last week's dance, in the dress rehearsal, I actually displaced a rib," Stirling revealed during a pretaped package. "Now this week, [I'm] trying to find the balance of taking it easy and yet rehearsing."
For Stirling, taking it easy isn't an option she's interested in.
"I have to do things full out if I'm gonna know what it feels like to do them in the performance, and yet I've got this rib that I feel in pretty much every movement," Stirling explained.

A murderous principal, werewolves, a school bus massacre, a demonic pumpkin creature. In lesser hands, these elements combined might signal an overly ambitious, convoluted mess jammed into a tight 82 minutes. Luckily, Trick ’r Treat is quite the opposite: a bold anthology of Halloween tales stitched together like patchwork on a quilt, written and directed by the very capable Michael Dougherty (Krampus). In fact, Dougherty’s cleverly crafted Frankenstein-esque film should be at the top of every seasonal watch list; it’s a Halloween perennial that refuses to stay dead. Here’s why.
Originally set to hit theaters in October 2007, Warner Bros. inexplicably pulled the film from its schedule, despite a young, recognizable cast and seasonal allure. It was rumored to be bumped to the following October, but ended up settling with a straight-to-dvd release in 2009. For whatever reason, the studio’s lack of confidence and treatment of the film stunted...

It's been four years since it was officially announced that Michael Dougherty would write and direct Trick 'r Treat 2. It's been a slow-moving project and since it was announced Doughtery has been busy. He made the Christmas horror film Krampus and he's currently shooting Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Well, it looks like Dougherty is finally going to get around to making Trick 'r Treat 2! While doing an interview on the podacst Post Mortem (via Dread Central), Dougherty revealed that he will start working on it when he's finished with Godzilla: King of the Monsters:
“My hope is that once Godzilla has been put to rest that I can dive back into [Trick ‘r Treat 2]…I would love to finish writing it in post-production [of Godzilla] and then I’d love to make it my next project.”
Trick ‘r Treat, is my number one favorite Halloween movie of all time. It is the perfect Halloween film.

Ahead of the UK premiere of his latest film Terrifier at the Horror Channel Frightfest Halloween event on Sat 23 Oct, director Damien Leone talks about the ’Art’ of extreme clowning, his debt to Tom Savini and a terrifying Halloween experience…
Art The Clown initially appeared in your 2008 short The 9th Circle, then the 2011 award-winning short Terrifier and in your first feature All Hallow’S Eve. What made you decide to give him a fourth outing?
Up until this point I never felt like I fully showcased Art’s potential. I believe between the short films and All Hallows’ Eve, there only exists about 20 minutes of Art the Clown screen time. For a character who’s done so little, he seems to really resonate with horror fans. After all of the positive feedback, a full length film that focused solely on Art was inevitable.

[To get you into the spooky spirit, the Daily Dead team is spotlighting double features that we think would be fun to watch this Halloween season. Check here for more double feature recommendations and other Halloween 2017 coverage.]
There’s nothing quite like an outside threat to bring a family together, especially when that threat is of the undead variety. Siblings may not always get along, but when your sister’s soul is sought by a coven of witches, or when your mom is eyed as an eternal bride by a coffin-dwelling creep, it’s time to take those Sister Sledge lyrics to heart and become a family that can overcome anything—including wicked spells and sharp fangs. Set on respective fateful nights where the future of a homestead hangs in the balance and its up to siblings to save it, Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire and Hocus Pocus are family-friendly films that make for a great double feature during the Halloween season.
