The winter break is now officially in full swing. The broadcast shows are on their breaks, and some for a few months. The good news is that some shows will be back early in the new year.
There’s a great mixture of returning and new dramas and comedies in January 2025. Happy’s Place and Lopez vs. Lopez kicks things off in early January on NBC, and then the end of the month will see the return of most of the CBS dramas.
ABC is a bit of a mixed bag. While some dramas will either start or return in January 2025, we’ll have to wait until March for the return of Tgit. However, there are some reality shows and game shows to look forward to while we wait. Now you just need to decide what you want to watch.
ABC winter TV schedule
As mentioned, ABC has a varied schedule for shows.

Alan Menken is a true romantic. Just ask him how he met his wife of 52 years, Janis.
“This dancer walks into the room, and I knew immediately who she was, because I dreamt her,” he says, beaming from across the breakfast table on a Beverly Hills rooftop.
It’s no surprise that the man behind lionized love songs like “A Whole New World” and “I See the Light” has a tender, gentle nature. In fact, it’s that undeniable sentimentality that has elevated Menken to legend status (and Egot status) over the course of his career spanning five decades. The composer has earned eight Oscars (the most of any person alive today), all of which came from his work on films of the so-called “Disney Renaissance,” the period between 1989 and 1999 when the Mouse House produced some of its most beloved animated films. And he remains one of the industry’s...

Perhaps one of the most unexpected yet perfect relationships in Hollywood was the one the late legendary Robin Williams shared with the late and equally legendary Christopher Reeve. Though the two were polar opposites in their bodies of work, their friendship was nothing short of swoon-worthy as they perfectly proved that friends can, actually, become our chosen family.

That said, Williams also lived up to his promise of being a good friend and was there for Reeve in his hard times. Even when the latter, who is still regarded as the best Superman to date by many, found himself facing a series of unfortunate events with his body getting paralyzed neck-down after an accident, his best friend was there to get a laugh out of him nonetheless.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have successfully transitioned from the music world to the movie world thanks to their collaborations with David Fincher and other notable filmmakers. With Ross, Reznor first won the Best Original Score Oscar for The Social Network, next nabbing it for Soul (alongside Jon Baptiste). However, they would lose out on their Mank nomination. In addition to other works for David Fincher, like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl, Reznor and Ross also recently did the music for Luca Guadagnino’s Bones and All, Challengers and, more recently, Queer.
The Nine Inch Nails members are also tapped to score the upcoming Tron: Ares, and The Hollywood Reporter is revealing that the duo is quite comfortable staying in the film game in lieu of returning to purely music. Reznor would tell IndieWire, “What we’re looking for [from film] is the collaborative experience with interesting people.

Ever since its inception, Black Clover has been fighting a losing battle in proving its originality. Sure, the series is an amalgamation of the most common Shonen tropes, but that does not make it a copy of Naruto, My Hero Academia, or any other anime.
For years, Naruto fans have attacked Black Clover by calling it a dumb copy of their favorite series. But it’s time to fight back and this time, the battle will be with logic and hard facts that will rub Naruto fans the wrong way.

Black Clover is called a copy of Naruto mostly for its protagonist, who has a similar goal to Naruto. A tweet by a Black Clover fan has explained why everyone is wrong to assume this. Asta wants to become the Wizard King, and Naruto dreams of becoming a Hokage.

Although the extent to which the iconically dark-shaded and silver-streaked Guido Anselmi (Marcello Mastroianni) can truly be accepted as a Federico Fellini surrogate is a source of endlessly inconsequential debate, we tend to take the lightly fictive director at his word when he dismally claims that he had planned to make a truly honest and direct film this time around. 8½ represents the most unceremonious and abrupt transition in the development of Fellini’s cinema from putatively neorealist ideologies to unabashedly oneiric claptraps about the onus of an overly imaginative but waning masculinity—and it is, for all its Freudian bitchery and post-libidinous angst, one of the few personal statements in film utterly unhindered by stretches for social or cosmic relevance.

Any “Twin Peaks” fan worth their garmonbozia knows Episode 8 of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s revival season “The Return,” from 2017, is the visual and thematic standout. Directing, Lynch traces the origins of an evil presence named Judy — rooting it back to the U.S.’s development of the atomic bomb — in an episode that explains where the series-legacy killer “Bob” came from and how that force has landed now-dazed FBI agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) in a detached red-room netherworld.
But one of the centerpieces of the iconic episode is a visceral performance courtesy of “The” Nine Inch Nails, in the red-lit Twin Peaks Roadhouse Bar, of “She’s Gone Away,” a violent, grunge-fueled ode to destruction and the places you dig into “’til your fingers bleed.” The song was a track on Nine Inch Nails’ 2016 EP “Not Actual Events,” an angry and haunting and weirdly dance-friendly (certainly given...

The first trailer for the third season of acclaimed adult animated series, Invincible, is expected to debut during Ccxp at some point tomorrow, but Prime Video mistakenly shared it on the streaming site a little early.
The teaser was quickly taken down, but not before some audio and quite a few high-quality screenshots were posted online.
Like yesterday's poster, it looks like the trailer is going to give away quite a few major plot points, including the fact that Mark Grayson and Cecil Steamman ultimately become enemies after some particularly shady dealings from the latter.
None of this will come as a surprise to anyone who's read the comics, but just in case, here's a spoiler warning.

After releasing one of the finest dance albums of the year with their Challengers score this past April, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have once again teamed up with director Luca Guadagnino, and today, have released the score for his new A24 film, Queer.
Featuring a rousing, sample-heavy score inspired by the style of William S. Burroughs (the author of the original Queer novel), Reznor and Ross’ score adds depth and color to the Daniel Craig-starring film, capped off with the original song “Vaster Than Empires,” featuring Brazilian singer Caetano Veloso.
Throughout the score’s 16 tracks, the duo develops tension with layers of texture and refraining melodies, utilizing samples, pianos, synths, orchestral instruments and more. Stream it below.

There was a significant gap (over two years) between the first and second seasons of Prime Video's Invincible, but we had been assured that the wait for season 3 wouldn't be as long, which was recently confirmed via the release of the first teaser.

Now, the streamer has released the first official season 3 key art for the adult animated series, and if you're not familiar with the comics, the image counts as a pretty big spoiler!
The recent teaser saw a now 19-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) meeting with Cecil Stedman (Walton Goggins) in a café in a similar set-up to the season 2 teaser with Allen the Alien. Cecil is not happy (for a change) with Mark taking a lengthy break from crime-fighting, and tells the young hero that he needs more training if...

"Star Trek," which a very progressive franchise in many respects, has always had something of a fraught relationship with queerness. Gay or lesbian characters weren't wholly visible on the series, and dating couples tended to fall into the heteronormative. Near the end of his life in the early 1990s, "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry once idly mused that he'd like to depict two background male characters holding hands in a romantic way, but that's hardly a great spearhead for a progressive ideal.
There were occasional attempts to include queer stories in "Star Trek" throughout the 1990s, but they were few and far between. The "Next Generation" episode "The Outcast" was controversial even at the time (and one can read all about "The Outcast" in the pages of /Film), and the "Deep Space Nine" episode "Rejoined" did allow Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) to have a romantic relationship with a woman, but...

Does Hugh Granr regret the 1995 Divine Brown scandal?(Photo Credit – YouTube)
“I was just an idiot,” Hugh Grant confessed during a candid chat on The Drew Barrymore Show. The now-60-year-old actor reflected on the career-shaking incident that had him caught with sex worker Divine Brown in Los Angeles while dating Elizabeth Hurley. The fallout? A global media frenzy and a moment Grant would rather forget.
Barrymore helped jog his memory about their first interaction, revealing, “We didn’t meet in person—I reached out to you.” That sparked Grant’s recollection: “It was during the dark days of my Divine Brown scandal… I opened a letter from you that was very supportive and nice.” The letter, he said, was a rare bright spot during a time when he was besieged by the press on his farm in England.

The door to a Star Trek actor returning to a series is never fully closed. There are always options and workarounds to bring characters, even those long dead, back to the franchise. That's one of the beauties of science fiction.
The third season of Star Trek: Picard did a wonderful job bringing back characters from twenty plus years past, including Data who had died. The season was so successful, proving that fans wanted more of these characters they'd loved since 1987. And that's why there is such a calling for Star Trek: Legacy, a new series that focuses on Captain Seven of Nine [Jeri Ryan] and would bring back legacy characters even if not on a regular basis.

Gates McFadden is more than willing to return as Dr. Beverly Crusher as she told TrekCentral in a recent interview. Though she had a wonderful arc on Picard, there was much left to...

Actress Jeri Ryan is best known for her role as Seven of Nine, the former Borg who was last seen in the final season of Star Trek: Picard. Introduced in the spinoff series Voyager, Seven returned to the franchise with Picard, which was surprisingly a crew that she had not interacted with before, but the show made it work.
Ryan’s character had a significant pop cultural impact when she performed on Voyager and there were reportedly huge fanbases dedicated to her. Hence, the makers obviously wanted to capitalize on this stardom and hoped to put Seven of Nine in different Star Trek material. However, Jeri Ryan reportedly declined the offers before finally agreeing for Picard.

As of recent years, there has been a correlation with musical performances being recognized in the Best Supporting Actress category at the Oscars, with eight nominated since 2002, and half emerging victorious. This year, we have potentially three actresses from two movie musicals competing for the five slots: Ariana Grande for Universal Pictures’ “Wicked,” and Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez for Netflix’s “Emilia Pérez.” Let’s take a look back at the many scenarios where song-and-dance performers were cited for Best Supporting Actress and what that could mean for this year’s contenders.
There have been a myriad of supporting actresses recognized for film musicals at the Oscars predominantly during the inception of the genre, which include Jean Hagen for “Singin’ In The Rain” (1952), Peggy Wood for “The Sound of Music” (1965), and Kay Medford for “Funny Girl” (1968). But the first victory came for Rita Moreno for “West Side Story” (1961), who...

Tron: Ares director Joachim Rønning recently commemorated the wrapping of filming earlier this summer with some behind-the-scenes images and stating, “That’s a wrap on Tron: Ares. Thanks to an incredible and tireless crew, I really believe we pushed the filmmaking limits on this movie. Even through six weeks of night shoots you never slowed down. Also, a big thank you to our wonderful cast for leaving everything on screen. I can’t wait to show the world what we’ve done.” It was also revealed that Nine Inch Nails is scoring the film in place of the last film’s composers, Daft Punk.
Empire has recently shared a new picture from the upcoming Tron: Ares that teases more of Jared Leto’s character — the titular Ares. Additionally, Rønning has also explained more about his intended heavier score with Nine Inch Nails, saying, “With Nine Inch Nails making the music,...

Star Trek is a show filled with tropes, concepts, and ideas that are reused every single time. There's always the "leader" character, be it a captain or the head of the lower decks. There's always a "Spock" character; the one who doesn't emit emotions normally. There's always the science one, the pilot, the comedic relief, etc.
Just because a character fills a whole in the playbook that is Star Trek, doesn't mean they are alike. Which is what we're touching on today. Screenrant published an article where they compare Seven of Nine to T'Lyn. A rather out-there comparison, but it was made worse by saying that T'Llyn is the "new" Seven of Nine.
Which is a weird thing to say. As Seven of Nine was always Seven of Nine and until this very day, I always thought T'Lyn was T'Lyn.
The author essentially boils down the comparisons to two things,...

Almost a year and a half after season three of Star Trek: Picard aired its finale, "The Last Generation," there are some actors such as Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, and Todd Stashwick, and plenty of fans who are not ready to give up on the idea of continuing adventures with the legacy characters and the newer characters that made their debuts on Picard. LeVar Burton is one of those actors.
In an interview with TVLine [via Whatculture] the man behind Commodore Geordi Laforge is still onbard for the series that would follow Captain Seven of Nine [Jeri Ryan], her first officer Raffi Musiker [Michelle Hurd], and Admiral Jean-Luc Picard's [Patrick Stewart] son, Jack Crusher [Ed Speleers].

The early 1980s were a tough time for Saturday Night Live. After Lorne Michaels and the remaining members of the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players left at the end of Season Five, an all-new cast starred in a truncated Season Six before they were all fired — save for two breakout stars: Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo.
With the departing cast members went new showrunner Jean Doumanian, who was replaced by Dick Ebersol for Seasons Seven through 10 (Michaels returned in Season 11). Ebersol was a controversial figure at SNL, as the show struggled to regain its cultural relevance during his reign and suffered from frequent cast turnover.
Smack-dab in the middle of Ebersol’s run came Brad Hall, who was a cast member for all of Seasons Eight and Nine. While he was in some sketches, he mostly helmed the Weekend Update desk for a season and a half before...

In the "Star Trek: Picard" series finale "The Last Generation", the villain was exploded and most of the heroes were rescued. Tragically, the cantankerous-but-resolute Captain Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick) was killed on board his ship, the Titan-a, inspiring a wave of ambivalence from his first officer, Commander Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan). Seven was never respected by Captain Shaw; he felt her Borg implants made her an enemy and he would always deadname her, calling her the name she had before she was assimilated.
After Captain Shaw's death, however. Seven was put in command of the Titan-a on his posthumous recommendation (he left a recording). The ship was re-christened the Enterprise-g and "Picard" ended with a tease of a spinoff series starring Ryan. "Star Trek: Picard" showrunner Terry Matalas made no secrets that he was deliberately using the final episode to tease an additional "Star Trek" spinoff he intended to call "Star Trek: Legacy.

Did You Know Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Halloween Episode Became a Tradition? Here’s How It All Started! (Photo Credit – Facebook)
When Brooklyn Nine-Nine introduced its first Halloween heist, fans knew they were in for something unique. Each Halloween, Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and the rest of the 99th Precinct crew would up the ante with a hilariously chaotic heist. By the time we reached Halloween, the fifth installment of these episodes, the tradition had become a cornerstone of the series—a chance for the characters to try out-cunning each other in a dizzying race to snag a “cummerbund” or “belt” and claim the title of “Ultimate Detective Slash Genius.”
Halloween, the fourth episode of season five, locked the heist into Brooklyn Nine-Nine history. Taking place entirely within the precinct, it captured the 99’s escalating rivalry, with betrayal, handcuffs, and a clever corgi named Cheddar. Things started when Jake...

Like many artists in the 1970s, Steely Dan rose to prominence while following in the footsteps of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The Beatles were a source of inspiration for the band. Still, they didn’t feel impressed by some of their actions after the band broke up. In 1972, they released a song that mocked Lennon’s brand of activism.
Steely Dan wrote a song about John Lennon
On his honeymoon with Yoko Ono, Lennon began engaging in bed-ins, a nonviolent form of protest in which Lennon and Ono sat in bed to promote peace. In 1971, Lennon released the song “Imagine.” In it, he detailed his vision for a better future.
The following year, Steely Dan released the song “Only a Fool Would Say That.” In it, they sing that Lennon’s vision for a peaceful future feels impossible.

[This story contains major spoilers from the seventh episode of Grotesquerie.]
Nothing in the marketing for FX horror series Grotesquerie tipped viewers off that this Ryan Murphy show is not what it seems. And, that was intentional. Because when the seventh episode of the Niecy Nash-Betts-starring series released, Murphy wanted a collective gasp from viewers. And that’s exactly what he got when the extended hour released on Wednesday night.
“The very fact that none of this got out is a miracle in today’s modern age,” Murphy, who co-created, wrote and directed Grotesquerie tells The Hollywood Reporter in a chat with his collaborative partner, John Landgraf, Chairman of FX Content & FX Productions.

The film is based on a true story and follows two down-on-their-luck musicians, played by Jackman and Hudson, who form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band and “prove it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams,” per the official logline.
“Hustle and Flow” and “Coming 2 America” director Craig Brewer will write and direct the Focus Features film.
“Song Sung Blue” is based on the 2008 documentary by director Greg Kohs, here an executive producer of the fictional adaptation.

Spooky season is upon us and that means we've got some brand new horror movies hitting theaters. For the first time in what feels like a long while, genre fans have a new slasher icon to grace the silver green semi-regularly in the form of Art the Clown, who is back for a new round of rampage in "Terrifier 3." Over the last decade, Damien Leone's killer clown has had a slow but sure rise to fame in the horror world. Now he's returning for his most high-profile killing spree yet -- one that is already causing people to make a break for the exit in theaters. The question for viewers is: does that killing spree end when the credits roll? Or is there more to this one?
We know that Leone already has plans for "Terrifier 4." That...
