Andrew Stanton has made some amazing animated films like Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory but many believe that Wall-e is his best work. The film even won him an Academy Award. The story of “Wall-e” isn’t complex—it’s simple and sleek, just like his other movies. But what makes it special is that it’s more than just a regular animated film; it feels like a journey, this time told through the eyes of a little robot. In terms of storytelling and execution, “Wall-e” is a masterpiece that will never get old.
Wall-e (2008) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis: Who is Wall-e?
The film begins on a dystopian Earth that has been completely trashed. Cities are abandoned, towns are empty, and the entire planet has become a giant garbage dump. Years of pollution, overconsumption, and corporate greed have drained Earth of its resources, making it unlivable.

One of Bluey's biggest strengths is that it's able to reach an adult audience, as well as its intended younger viewer range. This is largely due to the emotional weight displayed in the show's characters and its writing, especially when it comes to how it depicts relationships.
Chilli and Bandit are undoubtedly couple-goals, but they aren't the only ones who know how to tug at our heartstrings. From "fancy restaurants" to fairytales, take a look at these absolutely lovely Bluey episodes that are sure to have you smitten.
"Daddy Robot"
If Pixar's Wall-e told us one thing, it's that robots can have some of the best love stories. While Chilli and Bandit might only be pretending to be animatronic parents, the loving vibes they give while engaging with their pups are positively palpable.
It's one thing to see an animated mum and dad parent together, but seeing them...

Romance films often get a bad rap as they are either too generic or extreme in their story’s comedic or melodramatic elements. When a romance works, it often comes down to the chemistry between the leads or the investment in the story from the audience. Love Me is a challenging concept to explain, and even the trailer has some difficulty conveying exactly how the story works, but this is a film unlike any other you will encounter.
Love Me spans billions of years and examines the formation of a romance between an artificially intelligent buoy floating in the oceans of Earth after a cataclysmic event. When that buoy returns online after eons, it interacts with a satellite orbiting the planet. That satellite holds a massive cache of data comprising all of human history. As the buoy develops a personality, it falls in love with the satellite, which also grows beyond its original programming.

When it comes to how they navigate Hollywood, Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun might be soulmates. In the wake of the legendary David Lynch's passing, social media timelines flooded with tributes to the influential filmmaker, often utilizing screenshots and gifs from his immaculate body of work. However, another image made the rounds with just as much fervor -- namely, that of Pamela Anderson in the hallowed grounds of the Criterion Closet with the subtitle "We love David Lynch." Anderson had made her visit to the famed closet as part of the awards campaign for "The Last Showgirl," a way for movie lovers to admire (or judge) her taste in cinema. Indeed, countless creatives have made their way to the Criterion Closet since Guillermo del Toro was first filmed making his selections back in 2010, with many calling it a "dream come true."

The second season premiere of the Apple TV+ sci-fi thriller "Severance" offered plenty of things for its dedicated fans to obsess over. Did Lumon really celebrate the core four members of the Macrodata Refinement unit for attempting to rebel against their masters and tell the truth of the world of the innies? What exactly happened in the outside world when people found out about what it means to be severed? All of these questions feed into the various fan theories people have about "Severance" and what its intense mythology all means. Are the innies unknowingly working on a way to transfer human consciousness from one body to another? Maybe the goats seen in the first season are being bred to take over as humans in the outside world. And so on. But one specific theory -- that the innies are cogs in some grand simulation, one that may impact both...

It was criminal that the Best Animated Film category didn’t exist at the Oscars before 2001. Iconic films like The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Mulan missed out on the golden statuette. While Beauty and the Beast became the first animated feature to be nominated for Best Picture, the absence of a dedicated Animated Feature category left a void in recognizing the artistry of animated films at the Oscars.
The creation of the award, in hindsight, inadvertently confined animated films to their own category. Following the 81st Academy Awards, cinephiles noted that no rule prevented Wall-e from being nominated for Best Picture, sparking debates on animated films’ true recognition.
At the time of the award’s introduction, Disney had cooled off, and Pixar (distributed by Disney) took the reins, dominating with creativity and innovation. Pixar has claimed 11 of the 23 Oscars for Best Animated Feature.
Today, the animated landscape is more competitive than ever.

Kid Koala aka Eric San is directing from his 2011 graphic novel of the same name, which Mylène Chollet has adapted for the screen.
Director, film composer and graphic novelist San has released five solo albums, and contributed to several feature film soundtracks including The Great Gatsby, Looper, Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
As a scratch DJ he has toured with Radiohead, Beastie Boys and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band and collaborated with Gorillaz, Deltron 3030 and Emilìana Torrini.

The Iron Giant is one of the best animated films to ever come out of Warner Bros. Pictures, and while the film's popularity has dwindled since it was released in 1999, the core and message of the film can be seen in many modern films. In 1999, Disney was at the top of their game when it came to animated movies. By comparison, other studios struggled to compete, and even one of the largest studios in Hollywood, Warner Bros., relied on popular IP's like Batman and the Looney Tunes to fill seats.
However, at the turn of the century, WB put out a spectacular film that harked back to tensions of the Cold War with a 1957 setting. While 2025 is just beginning, there are already plenty of movies to go out and start seeing, and one of the most intriguing films coming to theaters soon is the post-apocalyptic romance film, Love Me. The film premiered at Sundance in January 2024, but its theatrical release is coming later in January 2025. Love Me's trailer has just been revealed, giving general audiences a look at the movie before its theatrical debut, and the film looks strikingly similar to Pixar's 2008 classic, Wall-e.
Wall-e is one of Pixar's most beloved films, so naturally, Love Me's similarities to the animated hit has been turning heads, as the upcoming movie has a very similar premise. The romance stars Kristen Stewart as a buoy and Steven Yeun as a satellite on a post-apocalyptic earth, and the two must figure out what it means to be human, and navigate the complexities that come with falling in love.

Tim Allen recently told Collider that he completed his “first five-hour [recording] session for Buzz” Lightyear’s return in Disney and Pixar’s upcoming “Toy Story 5.” The comedian has been voicing Buzz since the original “Toy Story” film in 1995 opposite Tom Hanks as the voice of Woody. He said “it’s really weird” to find his Buzz voice again, five years after the release of “Toy Story 4.”
“It’s a very, very clever story,” Allen teased of the upcoming fifth installment. “Do you wanna do five of these? I don’t really believe it’s about the money. I’m sure they want it to be a success, but that’s not why they did it. Had they not come up with a brilliant script, they wouldn’t have done it and they wouldn’t have called me and Tom [Hanks]. Osamu Tezuka reshaped Japanese pop culture with his manga "Astro Boy." In a future world, Japanese science minister Dr. Tenma loses his son Tobio in a car accident. He recreates Tobio as an android, Astro (known as Atom in the original Japanese). The manga is a futuristic reimagining of "Pinocchio" that becomes a superhero story.
You can trace Japan's love affair with robots to "Astro Boy" — modern mecha and shonen manga/anime wouldn't exist without it. Despite being foundational in Japan, Astro Boy isn't much of an icon in the United States. One attempt to import him, a 2009 CGI animated "Astro Boy" picture from Imagi Animation Studios, failed and left Imagi underwater.
Imagi was founded in Hong Kong in 2000, first producing the 2002 CGI cartoon series "Zentrix." In 2007, they secured a three-picture distribution deal with Warner Bros — the first fruit of that deal was the 2007 animated "Tmnt" film. "Tmnt" was a success,...

While almost all of Pixar’s movies were well-received critically, six of their outings have the unfortunate distinction of ruining the studio’s staggering streak at the Academy Awards. All of Pixar’s movies have their fans, and the studio’s output is often viewed as some of the best family animations that Hollywood has to offer. Since the studio blazed onto the scene with the 1995 blockbuster Toy Story, Pixar married smart scripts, captivating characters, and original ideas with groundbreaking animation. Not only was the studio a leader in 3D animation, but Pixar also had the quality to back up this novelty.

Whether it be by utter obliteration, acts of deities and demons, or merely the ruination of the environment for human habitation, the world's end has fascinated filmmakers for as long as special effects have allowed it to be visualized. In general, audiences are drawn to see such mass destruction at a fictional remove as well, though some tales of the end times can hit a bit too close to home to feel good as escapism.
Not every movie on this list actually depicts the end, but they all, in some way, reckon with it. What do the characters do with their imminent fate? What would you do? Most of these films ask the questions; others might use the demise of the globe as a surprise twist. Cars 2 is among the worst critically-regarded Pixar movies ever, and it broke one of the studio's most impressive streaks upon release. It was no surprise that a sequel was made after the success of Cars in 2006. Five years later, Cars 2 was released to a wall of negative reviews from critics and fans alike. The movie scored 39% on Rotten Tomatoes and earned an IMDb score of 6.2/10. Not every Pixar movie can be an overwhelming critical success, but Cars 2 was particularly troubling for what it didn't do after its release.
Pixar movies have been memorable for the stories they tell and the awards they take home afterward. Ever since Toy Story in 1995, the majority of movies Pixar released have found critical success. Unlike most Pixar films though, Cars 2 did not earn any impressive accolades and even missed out on a typical honor bestowed by films from the company.

Pixar has been one of the biggest names in animation ever since it released its first feature in 1995 with Toy Story. The movie would go on to start a multi-film franchise and be named one of the greatest animated movies of all time. Pixar has prided itself on seeing fairly consistent success at both the box office and among critics. Just this year, their film Inside Out 2 made over $1.6 billion to become the highest-grossing animated movie of all time. Inside Out 2 also received good reviews, and is considered a favorite for coveted awards such as the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
The last few years have looked different for Pixar, however, as the studio has undergone some changes. These include altering the release format of some of its movies, with films such as Luca and Soul going directly to Disney+ rather than getting a wide-release theatrical run. Pixar...

It's undeniable that Studio Ghibli's distinctive style and storytelling have influenced countless filmmakers, not only in Japan, but also in the West. Some examples of iconic American animated films inspired by Ghibli are Coco from Spirited Away and Luca from Porco Rosso. Because of this, it isn't strange that DreamWorks' latest hit film, The Wild Robot, has joined the club of Ghibli-inspired movies since it has the perfect aftertaste of a Hayao Miyazaki work.
The Wild Robot has captivated viewers and critics alike, becoming the best-rated animated film of 2024 and receiving praise for its unique mix of nature, technology, humanity, and found family. However, even though viewers have compared the film to other popular animated movies like The Iron Giant and Wall-e, The Wild Robots director, Chris Sanders, has made it clear it shares a deep connection to the underrated Studio Ghibli's movie by Miyazaki, Castle in the Sky.

Nine years after the original Inside Out (2015) delighted audiences of all ages, Inside Out 2 expanded the roster of entities that control the mind of now-13-year-old Riley Andersen by introducing five new Emotions. As was the case with its predecessor, Inside Out 2 has generated a high Rotten Tomatoes score, which was sorely needed after the last few Pixar movies fell short of the production company's lofty standards.
Pixar Animation Studios has crafted a tradition of loading their movies with Easter eggs and references to both past and future Pixar films, along with other relevant pop culture nods. The new sequel is no different, as by the end of Inside Out 2, eagle-eyed viewers can catch more than 20 different Easter eggs, some more obvious than others.

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for The Wild RobotThe Wild Robot's Roz (Lupita Nyong'o) is the next great robot in animation to debut on the big-screen. Already incredibly popular and beloved by audiences, Roz joins the ranks of many other iconic robots in animation. While there are certainly ways in which Roz is unique and distinct, it can also be argued that she serves as a dynamic hybrid of many different animated robots who've been seen in past animated films.
In The Wild Robot, Rozzum Unit 7134 finds herself on a remote island after a storm causes her to crash while en route to the humans she was meant to be delivered to. In the absence of humans, Roz eventually learns how to communicate with the island's various wildlife, while also trying to find tasks to fulfill according to her primary core programming. To that end, Roz begins growing and adapting,...

It’s harder these days for animated films to find an audience without a recognizable brand. But with both critic and moviegoer acclaim on its side, Universal/DreamWorks’ “The Wild Robot” has the tools it needs to turn a modest $35 million domestic opening weekend into a long theatrical run that could last through the end of the year.
“Robot” will have to defy a historic trend of tough roads to success for animated science fiction. One critical strategy will be to leverage positive reviews and word of mouth to appeal to families and women over 35 at a time when the box office offers those audiences fewer options.
“Robot” took in $53 million globally in its opening weekend, a solid performance against a reported $78 million budget.
But the $35 million domestic box office was not close to the $43.7 million opening (unadjusted for inflation) that the franchise-spawning “How to Train Your Dragon” earned in...

2024 seems to be shaping up as quite the year for animation. With Inside Out 2 and The Wild Robot sweeping the box office and critics’ opinions, respectively, there seems to be a lot of competition in the animation department for 2024. Even films like Despicable Me 2, fell short of a billion dollars at the box office by just a few million, which really indicates what a great year it has been for animation. There are films currently in theatres like Transformers One that have also managed to garner a lot of support from the fandom.

While DreamWorks animation brought us the direct-to-streaming cinematic marvel Orion and the Dark, their big theatrical film for this year is The Wild Robot, directed by former Disney director Chris Sanders. After helping to bring to life other franchises like Lilo & Stitch, How To Train Your Dragon, and The Croods, Sanders once again tugs at the heartstrings of audience members with a film adaptation of the 2016 children’s book by Peter Brown.
Here is ‘The Wild Robot’ Trailer.
When the first trailer was revealed, many thought that it would be the studio’s attempt at Wall-e or The Iron Giant. However, there is more of a Studio Ghibli vibe from the overall narrative, and not just because the main character looks like one of the robots from Castle in the Sky.
So, is “The Wild Robot” one of DreamWorks’ emotional gut-punching movies? Or is it more of the eye candy...

Meryl Streep is lending her voice to the climate change crisis — literally.
The Oscar-winning icon narrates “Want to Tell a Great Story,” a new PSA that debuted today from the Sustainable Entertainment Alliance made in partnership with the Nrdc’s Rewrite the Future.
“Hey, want to see a story about climate change?” Streep asks in the opening seconds before a series of clips from Get Out, The Lego Movie and Anchorman show characters saying “no” in quick succession. “We get it, we really do. Climate change is scary. It can make us feel, well, a little anxious. And we turn to movies and TV to escape. But what if we changed the question?”
Streep does just that and alters the query: “Want to see a great story? Stories can engage with the climate even as they entertain. Whether they are dramatic or funny or stories of courage, stories about protecting what you love,...

Pixar has been having quite the summer with Inside Out 2, bringing the animation juggernaut back into the limelight after what had been a lukewarm run with a slew of great films. Asif Kapadia––the biographical documentary wiz behind contemporary classics like Senna and Amy––opens his semi-fictional film 2073 in a flurry of doc footage. Wildfires, floods, and other such natural disasters set the tone while disturbing clips of cops bashing skulls and riot police brutalizing innocent people cement it for the next 85 minutes. Then comes the fiction: it’s been 37 years since “The Event,” and we’re in the future: the year 2073.
Thinly conceived sociopolitical dystopian circumstances crash across the screen in a somewhat thrilling, somewhat unintentionally funny (e.g. “Chairwoman Trump Celebrates 30th Year in Power”) newsreel continuation of the montage that ultimately sets up the thematic narrative advertised by the title and presence of Samantha Morton in-character in a documentary. We’re in New San Francisco, the capital of the United States in 2073, which resembles a very familiar dystopia.

The Wild Robot receives glowing reviews following its debut at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. Based on the bestselling children's book by Peter Brown, The Wild Robot sees the robot Rozzum unit 7134, referred to as Roz, becoming stranded in the wilderness, where she adapts to her new environment and becomes an integral member of the community while raising a baby goose. The new DreamWorks film features a star-studded voice cast, including Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Catherine O'Hara, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Matt Berry, Ving Rhames, and Mark Hamill.
The initial reviews for The Wild Robot are overwhelmingly positive, with The Daily Beast's Esther Zuckerman comparing it to particularly beloved animated films, asserting that "It evokes its forebears like Wall-e and The Iron Giant, while etching out its own path through richly textured animation and a brilliant lead performance." IndieWire's Kate Erbland describes it as "a warm little...

In the opening scenes of The Wild Robot, a robot washes onto the shore of a remote island, bearing marks and labels of its human manufacturers. Rozzum unit 7134, voiced by Lupita Nyong’o in an inspired performance, is a machine built to serve. One of her first phrases after being activated by a colony of beavers is an expression of this fealty: She always completes her task, just ask. Naturally, the animals in this secluded locale fear this towering metal assemblage. When presented with her eager gestures of assistance, they scramble.
Premiering at the Toronto Film Festival, The Wild Robot is the story of how Rozzum 7134 becomes Roz and finds her place and purpose within an obscure island’s vibrant ecosystem. Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch, How to Train Your Dragon) adapted this poignant DreamWorks feature from Peter Brown’s affecting trilogy of the same name. When it hits theaters on September...

A gorgeous computer-generated cartoon with a human heart beating beneath its sleek, state-of-the-art surface, DreamWorks Animation’s “The Wild Robot” arrives at a time when the public seems more concerned than ever about being outsmarted by artificial intelligence. It’s somewhat ironic then that the movie, a lovely chosen-family fable adapted from the first book in Peter Brown’s open-ended series, features no human characters of consequence.
Instead, “The Wild Robot” concerns an overzealous automaton named Rozzum 7134 (or simply “Roz” for short), whose personality comes partly from Lupita Nyong’o and the rest from the artists at Dwa. Together with “How to Train Your Dragon” co-director Chris Sanders, they imbue this bot — basically, two spheres, four limbs and more tools than a Swiss Army knife — with maternal instincts and something that could pass for a soul.

John Stevenson and Mike Osborne's 2008 film "Kung Fu Panda," on its most basic level, serves as a spoof of a certain type of martial arts film made in Hong Kong in the 1970s. Many of the tropes of martial arts cinema infiltrated American cinemas in the 1990s and 2000s thanks to the stateside releases of Jackie Chan's Hong Kong movies, the success of the wuxia film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," and the constant bolstering of the genre by mega-fan Quentin Tarantino.
By 2008, so many American filmmakers had borrowed from Hong King cinema (including Tarantino himself with his "Kill Bill" movies), that even small children could recreate their tropes and clichés on the playground. Every kid could spot the characters: ancient wizened masters, a team of martial arts monks, and a feisty young comedic hotshot who seems ill-equipped for the asceticism of kung fu, but ultimately proves to be a champion.

Spoilers for numerous Pixar films to follow.
For nearly 30 years, going back to its innovative first feature "Toy Story," Pixar has defined excellence in creative and animated storytelling. Its films have been wildly successful at the box office, with "Inside Out 2" recently grossing billions at the box office, and the studio itself has won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature 11 times. Pixar continues to produce feel-good stories that shape childhoods everywhere; yet, for all their warm and fuzzy moments (such as Woody and Buzz becoming friends or Dory speaking whale), what Pixar movies are really, really good at is making us cry — kids and adults alike. So, since we're feeling masochistic, this list ranks the saddest moments in Pixar films.

Beginning Wednesday, September 4, actress Emma Samms will once again reprise her iconic role as Holly Sutton on ABC’s “General Hospital,” the show announced on Friday.
Although storyline details remain under wraps, Holly’s return to Port Charles is said to be tied in with the re-appearance of Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson), who is currently being held captive inside a holding cell at a refugee camp.
On Monday, August 19, Samms reported to the Prospect Studios set where the daytime drama tapes in Hollywood, revealing on X (formerly Twitter) that her dressing room was filled with flowers and gifts awaiting her upon arrival. Meanwhile, earlier this week, Samms shared a video of an experience she had while waiting at a stop light in Los Angeles.
“I realise this makes me sound like a country bumpkin, but I spotted this little, Wall-e delivery guy bumbling along the streets of Los Angeles and I have questions.

Quentin Tarantino thinks “Toy Story 3” is one of the greatest movies ever, which is why he refuses to watch 2019’s “Toy Story 4.” During an interview on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, the Oscar winner suggested that “Toy Story” could’ve been one of the great film trilogies had the animated franchise not continued with a fourth film. A fifth “Toy Story” is now on the way.
“I don’t watch all the animated movies and stuff, but I’m a big fan of the ‘Toy Story’ trilogy,” Tarantino said. “I think there’s only one trilogy that completely and utterly works to the Nth degree and that’s ‘A Fistful of Dollars,’ ‘For a Few Dollars More’ and ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.'”

When Ben Burtt Jr was invited to look at the concept art for Star Wars before filming began, he says he heard the lightsaber as much as saw it: it was the sound of a film projector. “I was a projectionist at a theatre,” he says. “I could hear a projector motor – not when it’s running the movie, but as it sat still: a musical humming. Fifty per cent of the lightsaber is that projector. I mixed it in with the buzz of a television tube.” So when you hear one of Burtt’s most famous sound effects, you are listening to cinema.

The official announcement at D23 of Pixar’s Andrew Stanton writing and directing “Toy Story 5” is a big deal. Stanton has co-written the previous four “Toy Story” films, receiving Oscar nominations for the original and the third film.
But now as a director, he finally gets to be in total control of the franchise he helped establish. So if there was going to be a fifth “Toy Story,” he’s the perfect director for a couple of reasons.
The first is that, since “Wall-e,” Stanton has been fascinated with science fiction and the dangers of ubiquitous technology. The story for the fifth “Toy Story” allows him to double down on that fascination.
“Let’s be real,” Stanton told the packed Honda Center in Anaheim on Friday night. “Toys have some serious competition these days with phones, tablets, and technology everywhere. So, this time around, it’s toys vs. tech.

Back in the day, it used to be, ‘You’ve got a friend in me’. But these days everywhere you look, it’s more like, ‘You’ve got a friend in screens.’ Or so, that’s the gist of Pixar’s upcoming Toy Story 5. During Disney’s D23 Expo panel, Pixar boss Pete Docter hit the stage to give a major update on Buzz, Woody and Jessie’s next big-screen adventure – not only confirming studio legend Andrew Stanton as the director of the film, but unveiling a first piece of concept art too. That image, in the broadest of strokes, indicates what the fifth outing will explore: the notion that kids these days are increasingly more besotted by technology than they are traditional toys.

The biggest news of the night may have been the announcement of Toy Story 5, set for release in 2026. The film will be written and directed by Andrew Stanton, who helmed Wall-e, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory. He also wrote the previous Toy Story films, including 2019’s Toy Story 4.
At D23, Stanton spoke about how the Toy Story toys have always tried to be there for their kids. “Their jobs get exponentially harder when our toy crew goes head to head with what our kids are obsessed with today: electronics.” He then revealed the below concept art, featuring Woody, Buzz, Forky, Jessie, Rex, and others facing their new mortal enemy: a tablet screen.
