Monopolies, mergers, and content shuffling through various streaming services are frustrating endeavors. They utterly break the illusion of accessibility towards films and media that the lure of Ott had invited when Netflix would disrupt the space, and the rest of the studios would follow suit with their own corresponding Ott service.
If one views the acquisition of Hotstar by tech giant Jio, leading to the dissolution of their streaming service Jiocinema, and the merging of Hotstar to form JioHotstar, it is essentially to swallow the media library of Disney+Hotstar. As a result, JioHotstar currently has the Disney Library, which includes Marvel and Star Wars, as well as re-integrates live sports broadcasting. More importantly, JioHotstar is now again the home of the HBO series and the sole distributor of Peacock and Paramount + content.

Game of Thrones had a lot of iconic confrontations between rival characters, and for eight seasons, we’ve all been waiting to see the Clegane brothers lock horns. It took a long while, but we finally got our wish in the final season after The Hound and The Mountain beat each other at the crumbling steps of the Red Keep.

Known in the fandom world as the Cleganebowl, the duel between the estranged brothers was one of the most rigorous fight scenes in the show. It’s worth noting that no such thing has ever happened in the books, and it seemed like a mere fan service, but who knows? George R.R. Martin could whip something up to make it canon.

George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire almost went in a different direction based on his early outline as revealed in a 1993 letter to his publisher. Fans may have been surprised to discover the major changes that the author made to his novel series, as well as the many details that never made it to the final version.

Perhaps one of the most striking impressions about the said letter is that it didn’t contain information on the infamous Red Wedding chapter—that is because Martin never planned it at the time. It was a decision he made later on as the story evolved, but if there’s one thing that’s even more devastating than the massacre scene, it is the fact that he had a more upsetting plan for Catelyn Stark.

Many years have passed since Jason Momoa starred in Game of Thrones. Playing the role of Khal Drogo in the very first season of the series, his part to play in the series ended as quickly as Daenerys’ marriage. His career has changed quite a lot in this time, going from playing a small role in one of the biggest series of all time to becoming Aquaman himself.

However, it would seem that his time in the beloved series also affected his career a great deal. During an interview, the actor confessed that he did not get jobs after he starred in Game of Thrones for quite a hilarious reason.

The Game of Thrones universe is growing at the speed of a flying dragon. The first season of a new prequel show, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, premieres later this year, and we've now learned that HBO is making plans to film seasons 2 and 3 back-to-back, which hopefully means we won't have to wait terribly long between new episodes. The brilliant decision could solve a huge problem that Netflix has faced with its sci-fi smash Stranger Things.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is about a knight named Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his young squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). Author George R.R. Martin has written three Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas so far, and Egg is quite young in all of them. HBO executive Francesca Orsi has explained that if they take too long filming each season, the 10-year-old Ansell could grow up too fast. “The...

Directed by Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormákur, King & Conqueror tells the story of Harold, Earl of Wessex (played by Norton), and William, Duke of Normandy (portrayed by Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). The series takes a raw, unfiltered approach to medieval history, capturing the intensity of battle and the personal struggles of its central figures.
James Norton may have looked fresh-faced when he greeted the audience at the London Screenings, but filming King & Conqueror was anything but glamorous. The actor recalled the tough conditions while shooting in Iceland, saying, “I was covered in mud and blood and layers of leather, it was a brutal shoot.”
From the start, Kormákur had a clear vision for the show’s tone and style. Norton explained, “He had a very clear vision around the tone and the aesthetic – from the very beginning he wanted to avoid this being a clean, cozy period drama.

The row over the BBC’s Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone documentary has just deepened.
Five hundred people from the entertainment world, including Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, Riz Ahmed, Ken Loach, Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett, and Game of Thrones actor Indira Varma, have put their names to a letter to BBC bosses calling on the corporation to “stop censorship on Palestine.”
The letter comes after the BBC removed from iPlayer the doc after it emerged that it was narrated by the son of a Hamas minister, information that the BBC said the doc’s producers failed to relay. The letter, which was also signed by actors Khalid Abdalla, India Amarteifio, Miriam Margolyes, Ruth Negga, and Juliet Stevenson, did not deny the narrator’s links to Hamas but said his father, Dr Ayman Al-Yazouri, served as Gaza’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, a “civil service role concerned with food production.

Following a recent update which claimed that the long-awaited Wonder Woman video game from Monolith could still be "years from release" after being heavily overhauled during production, we have confirmation that the title has been cancelled altogether.
In addition, Warner Bros. Games has announced that it is shutting down Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego.
Here is the full statement from WB Games (via Kotaku).
"We have had to make some very difficult decisions to structure our development studios and investments around building the best games possible with our key franchises -– Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones. After careful consideration, we are closing three of our development studios – Monolith Productions, Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. Paul W.S. Anderson, known for directing the Resident Evil film series and the cult classic sci-fi horror Event Horizon, is stepping into new territory with his latest project, In the Lost Lands. This fantasy-action film is adapted from a 1982 short story by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.
Anderson described the film as an “adult fairy tale,” full of “bone-crunching violence” and “horrific surprises.” He explains that this movie is unlike anything he has done before, especially in terms of its look and tone. “It’s very different to anything I’ve done before,” Anderson says. “I really wanted to embrace the mythic fairy tale quality of it, so it’s an R-rated fairy tale, that’s for sure.”
The film, which will be featured in the latest issue of SFX Magazine, blends fantasy and action in a way Anderson believes will resonate with audiences. “The concept was just fabulous,...

Warner Bros. has been strategically shutting down its gaming unit, starting with Monolith Productions, the studio developing the Wonder Woman game. As of now, the game has been canned, and the studio is closed.
Warner Bros. has shut down its gaming unit for now. Image Credit: Warner Bros.
The reason for such a big decision is the ripple effect of 2024’s Suicide Squad’s failure in the market. It incurred approximately 200 million dollars in losses, and Warner Bros. was compelled to make serious changes if it were to avert such disasters in the future.

Game of Thrones may have ended, but the debates rage on, especially when it comes to Sansa vs. Daenerys. Both had their eyes on a crown, but their paths couldn’t have been more different. Daenerys, the Mother of Dragons, spent the series fighting to reclaim her family’s throne, only to burn out in the end.

Kathleen Kennedy could step down from Lucasfilm when her contract is up at the end of the year, at least according to one report. While her retirement has yet to be confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm brass, even the idea of her retiring has Hollywood buzzing like a lightsaber that’s been left on for too long.
Kennedy’s tenure at the company, if it is coming to an end, has been one of ambition and controversy. As she tried to chart new territory in a galaxy far, far away and serve her corporate overlords, she frequently waded into controversy and fan unrest. Attempting to sum up her time at Lucasfilm is difficult and troublesome, met with some historic highs and almost subterranean lows. Through it all, she never gave up. When the Empirical forces attempted to squash her, she always resisted.

This post contains heavy spoilers for "The Last of Us Part II" and season 1 of "The Last of Us."
We're in a golden age of video game adaptations. Though the only perfect shows based on video games are all animated, shows like "Fallout" and "The Last of Us" prove that the video game curse is long gone. "The Last of Us," though at times too faithful to its source material in season 1, was a gripping drama about the post-apocalypse. Even if the show couldn't manage to reach the thrilling, emotionally devastating highs of the original game, it was nevertheless a must-watch series with memorable characters, challenging themes and one hell of a season finale.
Now, anticipation is sky high for the follow-up, especially as the upcoming season 2 will tackle the award-winning masterpiece that is "The Last of Us Part II." With that anticipation also come lots of questions about how...

The games industry has been hit with more developer closures, and much like what happened with Visceral Games back in 2017, this one hits horror fans. Per Bloomberg, Warner Bros. Games has reportedly shuttered Player First Games (the devs behind MultiVersus), WB San Diego, and F.E.A.R. and Condemned: Criminal Origins developer Monolith Productions.
“We have had to make some very difficult decisions to structure our development studios and investments around building the best games possible with our key franchises – Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones,” reads a statement from WB Games. “After careful consideration, we are closing three of our development studios – Monolith Productions, Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. This is a strategic change in direction and not a reflection of these teams or the talent that consists within them.”
Prior to today’s announcement, Monolith was working on a Wonder Woman game, which has now been cancelled.

It’s been more than a decade since George R.R. Martin started writing The Winds of Winter, and seeing that he’s still far from finished, all fans could do is revisit his previous interviews and from there, come up with our own speculation as to how the upcoming novel will begin its story.

Fans everywhere rejoiced when "Peaky Blinders" received a second lease on life, with Netflix bringing the acclaimed series to the big screen (so to speak) with an upcoming movie and a recent tease of even more adventures to come -- but not everyone will be tagging along for the ride. The body count for the BBC/Netflix series might even rival the likes of "Game of Thrones," with various characters dropping like flies over the years. Though fan-favorite rogues like Aberama Gold (Aidan Gillen), Luca Changretta (Adrien Brody), and Polly Gray never quite made it to the finish line (despite no small amount of begging in Brody's case), one surviving and deceptively significant member of the ensemble apparently won't make the cut for the upcoming film.

The other day, James Gunn and Peter Safran — the two guys in charge of charting a new course for the DC Cinematic Universe — talked to reporters about their plans, and boy do they have them. Let's run down some of the things they said:
This new Dcu will officially launch with Superman, which will hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Gunn and Safran are cutting together a new trailer now as well as holding test screenings. They are psyched. “I’ve wanted to make a Superman movie since 1978 and the Superman film that James has made is exactly the one that teenage Peter Safran has been waiting for,” Safran said. After that, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will release on June 26, 2026. The movie will star House of the Dragon veteran Milly Alcock (Young Rhaenyra Targaryen) in the title role. "We’ve always viewed this transformative story as one of the cornerstones of our...

The first video games based on James Gunn's and Peter Safran's DC Universe are still years away from being revealed, but the co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios have revealed they are actively working with the various WB Games teams.
Speaking at a DC Studios presentation, the duo explained that they are working closely with the WB Games division, assisting studios like Mortal Kombat creator NetherRealm and Batman: Arkham developer Rocksteady on character design and story.
“We work incredibly closely with Jb Perrette [CEO and President, Global Streaming and Games], who runs that division, and it's really the first time it's ever been this way at Warner Brothers,” Safran explained. “James and I sit with literally the guys that run the studios underneath Jb, whether it's NetherRealm or whether it's Rocksteady, sit with them and talk about characters and stories that we're interested in and that they're interested in.”

Kathleen Kennedy, the longtime president of Lucasfilm, is expected to step down at the end of 2025.
She intends to retire after her current contract ends, according to a source with knowledge of her plans. A separate source close to Kennedy, however, dismissed the initial report by Puck as “pure speculation” and said nothing has been decided.
Kennedy joined Lucasfilm in 2012 as co-chair alongside “Star Wars” creator George Lucas. Shortly after, Lucas exited his post as Disney acquired the company for $4 billion, and Kennedy was elevated to president.
She is credited with reviving the property by launching the sequel trilogy, beginning with 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” as well as the critically acclaimed 2016 spinoff “Rogue One.” Kennedy has also charted a future for the franchise on streaming with television series such as “The Mandalorian” and “Andor.”
However, her future with the company behind “Star Wars” has been a source of speculation over the years.

Season 3 of The Wheel of Time is set to premiere on Prime Video in just a few weeks, on Thursday, March 13. This season could be a turning point for the show and the fantasy genre in general.
The Wheel of Time is one of three big fantasy shows on at the moment. House of the Dragon, a prequel to the massive hit Game of Thrones, is two seasons deep into its four-season run on HBO and Max. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, a prequel to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, finished its second season last year, on Prime Video.
The Wheel of Time is the dark horse series of the three. The Rings of Power has The Lord of the Rings brand behind it and House of the Dragon has the momentum generated by Game of Thrones pushing it.

The end of an era will soon be upon us, as a report from Puck says Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy plans to retire before the end of the year. Kennedy joined Lucasfilm in 2012 as co-chair alongside Star Wars creative George Lucas. A few short months into her position, Lucasfilm sold to Disney for $4 billion, prompting Lucas to pack his bags and retire to Skywalker Ranch.
Kennedy made her mark at the studio by relaunching the Star Wars universe with J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While the film banked $2 billion globally, the reset was ill-received by many long-time franchise fans. Regardless of online bellyaching, Kennedy pressed onward with two more entries in the core series, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Kennedy took the Star Wars franchise in questionable directions, creatively and financially, throughout her tenure. She hired Chris Lord and Phil Miller...

The Kannada superstar is now preparing for his next significant role, ready to play the mighty Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious adaptation of Ramayana.
Unlike other actors who might have preferred to portray Lord Ram or a warrior prince, Yash was firm from the beginning, only joining the film if he got to play Ravana. According to him, the demon king is the epic’s most complex and exciting character. His portrayal is expected to be one of the most compelling aspects of the film, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita.

Kathleen Kennedy has ruled over the Star Wars empire for more than a decade, but it looks like she might finally be moving on from this Galaxy Far, Far Away.
As first reported by Puck (via SFFGazette.com), the Lucasfilm President has told associates that she intends to retire by the end of 2025. There's definitely something to this as the story has been picked up by the Hollywood trades (this story also carries more weight than the wishful thinking often shared by YouTubers).
If Kennedy does plan on stepping down, then she's unlikely to be missed by the majority of Star Wars fans.
She joined Lucasfilm as co-chair alongside Star Wars creator George Lucas in 2012 and later took over following his exit when Disney acquired the company for $4 billion.
Initially, Kennedy found great success in the role. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a box office hit that grossed $2 billion worldwide.

DC Studios Rejig Release Slate As James Gunn Gives Updates On Batman, Teen Titans, Clayface And More

Time flies when you're having fun — and when you're trying to build a cinematic universe, too. Somehow, it's already been two years since DC Studios head honchos James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed the roadmap for their newly christened Dcu, announcing a wildly ambitious "Gods And Monsters" first phase comprising 10 projects. Now, as the first major movie from that slate, Gunn's own Superman, gets ready to take flight this July, Gunn and Safran have taken some time to give fans an update on their ever-evolving future plans — including Batman: The Brave And The Bold, a proposed live-action Teen Titans movie, Clayface, and much more besides.
At a gathering of the press last Friday, Gunn and Safran held court to talk films and TV shows that are in production, that need more time, and that are in the early stages of development. On the in production front, as of right...

Vidaamuyarchi is set for its Ott release next month, and Arav, one of the film’s antagonists, recently shared a traumatic experience he and the film’s protagonist, Ajith Kumar, had during a car accident on set. He recounted the incident in an interview with CNN-News18.
During the shoot, both Arav and Ajith Kumar were inside a Hummer for a scene. Arav asked if the car might topple, to which Ajith Kumar laughed and reassured him that it wouldn’t happen—at least not yet. However, in the very next shot, as if the car had heard their conversation, it went out of control and overturned.
When the car toppled, Ajith Kumar exclaimed, ‘Oh my God!’ Arav shared that he had complete trust in Ajith, and despite the crash, they remained safe inside the Hummer. It took the crew about five minutes to reach the spot,...

Joy Reid dedicated her final MSNBC episode on Monday to America’s history with successful resistance campaigns.
“We begin tonight with what I think is the question when you are in the midst of a crisis, and specifically a crisis of democracy: How do you resist when fascism isn’t just coming, it’s already here?” Reid said. “What, if anything, can you do about it? For one thing, you can try to learn from history, from what people in this situation, in countries around the world and in America, have done before. As my friend Rachel Maddow always says, History is here to help.”
News broke on Sunday morning that Reid’s show was canceled, along with many other MSNBC shakeups.
Reid went on to list several examples of resistance from the 19th and 20th centuries, including Harriet Tubman’s work on the Underground Railroad and “taking up arms during the Civil War,...

The Ragpicker King is the second installment in Cassandra Clare’s Chronicles of Castellane series. It’s certainly a worthy successor of the first book, Sword Catcher, which A Song of Ice And Fire author George R.R. Martin had described as “everything I look for in fantasy.”
Clare, better known as the author of the best-selling YA Shadowhunters books, has mastered the high fantasy genre with this new series. The worldbuilding expands even further in The Ragpicker King, we delve deeper into the magic system, and the stakes rise to new heights for all the characters.
If I had to sum the book in one single sentence, it would be something along the lines of: how far would you be willing to go, to protect those you love? The implicit answer the story gives is: beyond the limit. By the end of the book, all the characters will have to...

Our first official look at the live-action Masters of the Universe movie has arrived (via SFFGazette.com) and it offers an exciting glimpse of Nicholas Galitzine's He-Man wielding his iconic Sword of Power.
It's very much just a teaser image but one that was perhaps needed after set photos featured He-Man looking a little too normal for many fans. Showcasing He-Men decked out in normal clothes following an altercation with the police, it seemed the idea was to show the hero was blending in with his new surroundings on Earth.
However, some criticised what appeared to be a major departure from the various cartoons and comics, and expressed disappointment with the action moving away from Eternia.
On the plus side, we now know He-Man will rock his iconic classic appearance in the Masters of the Universe reboot. Hopefully, this is a better indication of what's to come when the...

That total comes from a combination of Nielsen’s measurement of linear viewers on HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery’s own measurement of streams on Max. Wbd also reports that the Season 3 premiere has surpassed 10.2 million viewers in the week since its release, rising from its 2.4 million same-day viewers. Episode 1 made a 57% increase on the viewership achieved by the Season 2 premiere in 2022 and has only increased on that momentum, as evidenced by the fact that its current total is 92% above where the Season 2 premiere was tracking after the same amount of time.
Based on the streaming performance of the first two episodes of Season 3, Wbd is touting “The White Lotus” as its second biggest returning season in the history of Max, behind only...

Nicholas Galintzine has the power in the first image from Travis Knight’s Masters of the Universe. Today, Amazon MGM Studios unveiled a close-up image of Galintzine as He-Man with the hero’s iconic Power Sword in hand. Though slightly dark, the picture shows the powerful weapon that helps Prince Adam transform into the all-powerful warrior of Eternia, He-Man, and the blade looks incredible. You can also glimpse Galintzine’s chiseled physique and He-Man’s vembraces tightly secured to his forearms. It’s funny. The photo leaves much to the imagination, but I’ll be damned if I’m not getting good vibes. The Power Sword looks legit Af, and Galintzine’s gym routine has treated him well.
Today’s Masters of the Universe image arrives as the film, directed by Bumblebee’s Travis Knight, continues production. Chris Butler wrote the Masters of the Universe screenplay based on earlier drafts...

Breaking Bad took the entire crime drama genre by storm when it was released in 2008. It showcased how circumstances can turn a high school teacher into a drug kingpin. And with actor Bryan Cranston leading the way as Walter White, it truly became a go-to show for millions. Much of this applause also goes to creator Vince Gilligan, who was the true mastermind behind the series.

While he is often praised for his sharp storytelling and brilliance, he himself admitted that it was indeed self-doubt that played a very important role in the show’s success.

Being the creator of one of the most iconic shows out there is not an easy feat.

For a while now, we've been previewing a new Game of Thrones video game called Game of Thrones: Kingsroad. It takes place during the fourth season of the show and casts players in the role of the heir to House Tyre, a small house in the North. They will battle enemies, wheel and deal with familiar characters from the series, and explore the open world that is the Seven Kingdoms. And that's just in the story-driven single-player mode. There's also a multiplayer mode where you can play with friends and go up against ice spiders big as hounds, and other beasties.
The game looks like the most full-featured Game of Thrones video game yet produced. The only thing that gives us pause is that it's coming out for mobile devices (and PC), which carry a bit of a stigma for being simple and full of microtranactions. But the game itself looks really solid.

The Winds of Winter is taking way too long to be published, but George R.R. Martin gave us clues about what to expect in the upcoming novel through The Forsaken chapter that he released years ago. It was told from the perspective of Aeron Greyjoy, the brother of Euron Greyjoy.

What we could take from this chapter is how Euron became more menacing than before, and leagues more terrifying than his television counterpart. It’s an understatement to say that the Game of Thrones version was extremely disappointing. He was promising at the beginning of the series, but throughout the course of the story, he ended up becoming the unexpected comic relief.
Euron Greyjoy might become the big bad villain in The Winds of Winter
Euron Greyjoy was portrayed on screen by Pilou Asbæk, a Danish actor who did an excellent job playing the antagonist.

Filming on the third season of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon is imminent. The signs are everywhere: actors are looking at their scripts, the social media accounts are making interesting changes, and the sets are alive with activity at Leavesden Studios in England.
The sets are so active that the British government thought they might make a good opportunity for a photo op. The other day, Rachel Reeves, the British Chancellor of the Exchequer (which is like the Secretary of the Treasury in the U.S.), visited the set to promote the Film Studio Business Rates Relief program, which grants tax breaks to film studios in the U.K. She toured the castle halls with executive producer Kevin de la Noy, talking about location shooting vs studio shooting and how new technology was being incorporated into the production process, per the Watford Observer.
