Hugo is based on The Invention of Hugo Cabret (2007), a novel by American author of children's book, Brian Selznick. The book was adapted for the movie by American screenwriter John Logan.
No. Johnny Depp was a producer on the film and was offered a different cameo part, but he was busy filming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) at the time. The actor playing Django Reinhardt is, as stated in the credits, Emil Lager, although he does look a bit like Johnny Depp.
The song is "Kings and Queens" by 30 Seconds to Mars. It is not included in the actual film.
The other trailer contains the piece "Breath and Life" by Audiomachine.
