Over the last 15 years, director André Øvredal has brought us the likes of Troll Hunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Mortal, and The Last Voyage of the Demeter. He missed out on the Stephen King / Richard Bachman adaptation The Long Walk and has said that not making that movie is one of the big regrets of his life… but he’s not letting that missed opportunity slow him down. Deadline reports that Øvredal is teaming up with Paramount and Walter Hamada’s 18hz on a new horror project – and while we don’t know the title yet, we do know that the the film’s cast includes Oscar winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter), Jacob Scipio (Bad Boys: Ride or Die), and Lou Llobell (Foundation)!

Since the publication of "Carrie" in 1974, Stephen King has knocked out over 60 books (which have been turned into 59 movies). That's better than a book-per-year pace, which is doubly impressive considering that he's still, at the age of 77, the United States' most prominent author of fiction. Every book isn't necessarily a winner, but he delivers the spine-tingling goods frequently enough to keep his massive fanbase happy.
Though he's still regularly acquiring new fans thanks in large part to the timelessness of novels like "The Shining," "It," and "Pet Sematary," his longtime readers are, in some cases, more than just fans. They're collectors. And they guard their early purchases fiercely due to a combination of sentimental value and actual monetary value — because depending on how early you started buying King's books, you might have some immensely valuable volumes resting on your shelf or stashed away in storage. Stephen King is one of the most respected storytellers of his — or any — generation. The word prolific hardly covers the man's output, from his earliest works like "Salem's Lot" to more recent masterpieces such as "Revival." For decades now, King's works have inspired dozens of movies and TV shows of varying quality. In all of those years, King directed just one of those movies himself in the form of "Maximum Overdrive," a truly bonkers piece of cinema with a wild story behind it. At least one small part of that story involves none other than David Lynch.
King recently appeared as a guest on "The Kingcast" and discussed the film. Released in the summer of '86, the film was based on the short story "Trucks" from the short story collection "Night Shift." It picks up after a strange comet passes by Earth,...

Ryan Coogler is one of the most exciting filmmakers working today. He's the rare writer/director who actually managed to make the jump from doing small independent movies to tackling massive blockbuster franchises without losing his style. Quite the contrary, in an era where the pipeline of Sundance darling to pawn in a superhero or big franchise machine has all but ruined the future of many a once-promising filmmaker, Coogler gave us not one but two exciting creative-driven properties.
First, he revitalized the "Rocky" franchise with the phenomenal "Creed," one of the best movies of the century and a nuanced and thrilling exploration of nature and nurture, with boxing thrown in for good measure. Coogler's legacy sequel approach worked wonders, kickstarting a trilogy, allowing Sylvester Stallone to do his best work in the franchise, and making Michael B. Jordan a star.
Next, Coogler went even bigger with "Black Panther" and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

It's been 12 years since Ryan Coogler made his startlingly assured feature filmmaking debut with "Fruitvale Station," but he still feels like an unknown quantity as an artist. We know from "Creed" and "Black Panther" that he's got a knack for imbuing franchise movies with uncommon heart, and no shortage of swagger when it comes to staging dynamite action set pieces. But due to circumstances beyond his control (the death of Chadwick Boseman and the Covid-19 pandemic), he's only made one movie over the last seven years. That's a lot of time for a still-young filmmaker (he's 38) to sit on the sidelines, especially one whose oeuvre is curiously light on original movies.
That's not a knock on Coogler at all. Christopher Nolan directed a remake ("Insomnia") and three Batman movies en route to becoming the most prominent and praised studio filmmaker on the planet, so Coogler is in excellent company. But...

A second trailer for Ryan Coogler’s fifth directorial feature film Sinners has arrived, and there is much to sink teeth into.
The horror film centers on Michael B. Jordan’s twins who return to their hometown to escape their troubled lives, only to realize that an even bigger threat lies in wait at home. Coogler hinted that vampires wouldn’t be “the only supernatural element” the film deals with. Coogler also opened up about how personal making the film was to him.
“Each time I’ve made a film it’s become more and more personal. With this one I was digging into two relationships, one with my maternal grandfather who I never met. He died about a year before I was born,” Coogler said in a virtual press conference held by Warner Bros. yesterday. “He was from Merrill, Mississippi and eventually moved to Oakland, married my grandmother and...

From Fruitvale Station to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ryan Coogler has established himself as one of the most vital voices in filmmaking over the past 12 years, and now he's stepping into the world of horror with his latest film, Sinners. Ahead of the movie's April 18th release in theaters, Warner Bros. revealed a new trailer for Sinners that sinks its teeth into visceral scares and unveils the vampiric side of its chilling and emotional story.
Daily Dead recently took part in a virtual Sinners trailer preview event with Ryan Coogler hosted by Juju Green. During the insightful conversation about Sinners, Coogler discussed how this film is especially a personal project for him:
My maternal grandfather is from Mississippi. And my uncle James, who passed away while I was finishing up Creed, was also from Mississippi. And it was a place I had never been. My maternal grandfather passed before I was born.

Stephen King has written about 65 books at this point, and by the time you finish reading this article, it'll probably be 66. Not all of them are winners, but he's batting at such a high average that it's hard to complain. The only problem is that it's a little intimidating for first-time readers to decide where to start with him. Do you go in chronological order, or should you go by whichever book's premise catches your eye the most? And what if your goal is to get as good an idea of King's whole schtick in as little time as possible? If you could only read five books to try to get the widest understanding of Stephen King, what should you pick?
That's a tough question, given King's stories hold a wide range of lengths, tones, and genres, but I'll be answering it anyway. Here's my curated list of five introductory Stephen King books,...

While the cinematic and televised realms of Stephen King are both old hat and as constant and unchanging as death and taxes now, it wasn’t always this way. Sure, he had movies hitting the theater pretty consistently all through the late 70s through, well, still today, but TV was a different story altogether. Salem’s Lot came out in 1979, and it was a big hit in both viewership numbers and critical appraisal but that was it for a while. We would even get that strange and wonderful Larry Cohen sequel to Salem’s Lot before we would get another King TV series. Once It hit screens over a weekend though, the flood gates would be opened with The Tommyknockers, The Stand, The Langoliers, and many other including actual TV shows. It would remain incredibly popular and fond in our memories but is It any good 35 years later or is It just...

Stephen King is renowned as a horror author whose works—novels and screen adaptations—have terrified many fans of all generations. We’re familiar with Carrie, Salem’s Lot, The Shining, and Pet Sematary, but many are probably unaware of what influenced him to write these books.

There have been a lot of movies and TV shows based on the works of author Stephen King, but there are also still a good number of King stories that have slipped through the cracks and never received an adaptation. For example, the short story The Monkey has been around for over forty years, but it’s only just now getting the big screen treatment, with Neon planning to give a film based on The Monkey a theatrical release on February 21, 2025. With that date just a few months away, we figured this would be a good time for us to put together a list of Everything We Know About The Monkey.
Story
King’s short story was first published in 1980, in the pages of the adult magazine Gallery, giving subscribers something to read amidst the pictures of nude women. The story was later revised and included in King’s 1985 short story collection Skeleton Crew.

Coming mere months after Salem's Lot (based on another King novel), The Monkey is set to tell a horrifying story centered on a vintage toy monkey. This toy winds up being cursed, leading to a string of deaths unfolding around a pair of twin brothers as they have to find a way to eliminate the toy for good.
Led by Theo James, The Monkey is due to drop in theaters for the first time on February 21, marking the latest in a long list of 2025 horror outings.

Larry Cohen isn’t really a horror guy, at least not in the same vein as his contemporary filmmakers like Wes Craven, John Carpenter, or Tobe Hooper. Cohen wasn’t even really the same type of director as he wrote almost 3 times as many projects as he directed. What he lacked in quantity for horror movies though, he more than made up for in quality. This quality started with 1974’s It’s Alive and moved through very different types of horror like God Told Me To, The Stuff, and Q the Winged Serpent. The only series of movies he was involved in was his trilogy of It’s Alive movies. While the first two were heavy hitters in terms of themes that were hidden under the guise of creature features, the third one had far less to say but is unfairly seen as less fun. 1987 was a weird year for the man,...

“Every night, somebody new is trying to kill us.” The Until Dawn video game gets a time loop twist in the upcoming movie adaptation from Sony Pictures, and the trailer has arrived.
From director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle Creation, Shazam) and writer Gary Dauberman (It, The Nun), Until Dawn arrives in theaters on April 25, 2025.
The upcoming movie will have a similar mechanic to the choose-your-own-adventure style of the video game, a unique way to bring the experience to life on the big screen. We’ve been told not to expect a 1:1 adaptation of the fan favorite video game, but it looks like Sandberg and company made sure their Until Dawn movie has that video game feel to it all the same.

The Monkey director Osgood Perkins has confirmed just how violent the upcoming Stephen King adaptation will be, teasing expectations for the horror-comedy. The Monkey's story focuses on twin brothers, Hal and Bill (Theo James), who are forced to confront a toy monkey whose curse causes someone to die every time it bangs its cymbals together. Unlike Perkins' previous film, Longlegs, hailed for its slow-burn terror, the King adaptation is a horror-comedy, expected to utilize wild deaths as part of its funny moments. This gives it a very different tone to the director's prior work.
Speaking with Empire, Perkins revealed The Monkey's death sequences will include a lot of blood, with plenty of over-the-top, gory kills to compliment its horror-comedy elements. The director explained how some deaths would involve more blood than is possible for a person to have in their body, hyping a "Rube Goldbergian connectivity" to the set-pieces. He...

Vampire shows never go out of style, and even today, we’re getting a renaissance of films and series that feature the blood-sucking creatures. Take Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, for example. It received mostly positive reactions from fans and critics, and it had all the elements viewers wanted for a typical vampire film.

Unlike Nosferatu, Mike Flanagan’s own vampire story, Midnight Mass, refuses to be categorized as such. The monster — or the Angel — had all the characteristics of a vampire in the classic lore, but why does the director insist it’s not a vampire show?

Spencer Treat Clark’s family home burnt down in the Eaton fire in Altadena, Calif.
“We have had so many friends and family reach out,” Clark tells Variety over the phone. “I’ve been in this town for 15 years and feel grateful for the friends I’ve made, and so we’re leaning on that big time right now.”
The actor, who has appeared in films like “Gladiator” (2000), “Glass” (2019) and “Salem’s Lot” (2024), had just spent Thursday morning rummaging through the remnants of his family’s house. While surveying what used to be home, he found a sake glass shaped like his dog, a gift he had received at a friend’s wedding. “It’s the only recognizable thing in our home.”
He cracks a joke about losing “the one T-shirt I own,” but sadness overtakes him as he recounts his other lost belongings. “My wife is a designer and architect,...

Despite being one of Stephen King's best and most regularly recurring characters, Holly Gibney continues to be controversial among a segment of his fanbase. Holly is soon appearing in another book, Stephen King's upcoming Never Flinch. This has led to mixed reactions from his readership, with some happy to get another crime novel from him, and others rolling their eyes that Holly will pop up in another book.
The reaction isn't surprising. Holly Gibney has been a divisive figure among Stephen King readers. Some love her, others hate her, and others think she's fine but would prefer not to see her so much. There are several reasons for this, but regardless of how people feel, it's clear that Holly is here to stay; Stephen King has said she's one of his favorite characters. Stephen King is one of the best-known authors of all time and a master of the horror genre. King has authored numerous novels and stories, a lot of which have been adapted for the screen. In fact, it is said that each year brings us at least one Stephen King adaptation, which is almost true.
Wwhile his large-scale TV and theater adaptations are well known, this year also brought us an animated short that adapts one of King’s oldest stories and we think that you’ve probably missed this one. Although, we believe that you absolutely have to see it!
This animated short adapts a forgotten story that King wrote back in 1968, titled “Here There Be Tygers”, and the movie’s unconventional approach to animation, as well as the style, are something we found intriguing and we simply wanted to share it with you in the report, so keep reading for more information!

Almost every year sees at least one Stephen King adaptation being brought to life. This is absolutely warranted, as King's wide range of evolving fiction consists of stories that can be enjoyed in any medium. For example, if we look at 2024 alone, Mike Flanagan's "The Life of Chuck" — an adaptation of King's 2020 novella of the same name — premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and will hit theaters next year. Moreover, Gary Dauberman's "Salem's Lot," which is the first feature adaptation of the 1975 novel, was a streaming hit on Max despite its rushed, muddled handling of the premise. As for near-future releases, a string of King adaptations are currently in the pipeline, including Flanagan's highly-anticipated take on the author's sprawling "Dark Tower" novel series.

Stephen King‘s short story Autopsy Room Four was first published in the 1997 collection Six Stories – which, fitting for the title, did indeed contain six stories. That book was limited to just 1100 copies, but thankfully King ended up putting all six of the stories into different collections over the years. Autopsy Room Four was also included in the 1997 anthology Robert Bloch’s Psychos before making its way into the 2002 King collection Everything’s Eventual. In 2006, the story was adapted for the screen as an episode of the TNT King mini-series Nightmares and Dreamscapes… and now, Deadline reports that a feature film adaptation is in the works.
King has given the greenlight for the new adaptation, which is being produced by Jon Levin, who was previously an executive producer on Netflix’s King adaptation In the Tall Grass. The film will be written and directed by Ranjeet S. Marwa, whose credits include Ballistic,...

Now that From season 3 is over, there’s a great horror show from 2021 with similar themes and terrors on Netflix that’s perfect to watch. MGM+’s critically acclaimed TV show From seemingly arrived out of nowhere in 2022 to become one of the most underrated series on the air, with its mysteries harking back to the engrossing nature of cultural phenomenons like Lost with a more intense horror angle. Emphasizing its continued success, From was officially renewed for season 4 on November 21, just a few days before the season 3 finale’s release.
With only 10 episodes a season, the series’ gaps between outings inspire a search for other horror shows with similarities to From’s compelling character ensemble, unique premise, and intense, terrifying twists. While MGM+ doesn’t offer many other substitutes for horror fans, some competing streaming services have released fantastic TV shows in this genre in recent years. Horror legend Stephen King has written a fair few books over the years. Ever since he burst on the scene with "Carrie" in 1974, he's given fans at least one book nearly every year. Since most of his work has been extremely popular, he's also established himself as a bit of an authority on the horror front -- and isn't shy about commenting about either the genre or his craft as a writer.
Thanks to King's status as a horror luminary and extensive work in many other genres, we've analyzed his work many times before. You may have seen us discuss why King's endings have a reputation for being disappointing, look into his biggest career regret involving (of all things) a forgotten TV commercial, and examine the one Stephen King book that will never get a film adaption due to the author voluntarily scrubbing it from his catalog.

Adaptations of Stephen King's works are often hit or miss. While some efforts translate to the big screen rather well with competent screenplays, others fail to grasp the core appeal of the source material. Plus, there are also those that inhabit the grey area of commendable effort and middling execution, with foundational aspects of King's fiction inevitably getting lost in the visual medium. However, even the most under-the-radar King adaptations have had their (rightful) resurgence over the years, such as 1997's "The Night Flier," which tells an unconventionally chilling vampire tale despite its glaring flaws. Moreover, new releases such as Gary Dauberman's "Salem's Lot" have become a streaming hit on Max despite receiving unfavorable reviews for leaving a lot to be desired.
But what about a highly-anticipated, yet ultimately disappointing adaptation that was both a critical and commercial failure? Well, Netflix has accomplished the improbable again. Nikolaj Arcel...

Nosferatu director Robert Eggers has already made it clear that we will not get a proper look at his new take on the titular vampire (played by It star Bill Skarsgård) until we're actually watching the horror remake, but a lot of critics have now seen the film, and some of the reviews contain some fairly in-depth descriptions of Count Orlok.
The vampire that was introduced in F.W. Murnau's original 1922 classic (played by Max Schreck) had a very distinctive look that will go down as one of the most iconic and influential monster designs of all time. Eggers' version does reportedly retain some elements of Schreck's ghoulish visage, but it sounds like some significant changes have been made.
If you'd rather know as little as possible about this new take on Count Orlok going in, spoilers follow.
Several reviews reference the new "Zombie Pirate" creature design, but Variety's is probably the most detailed.

While there is a lot of competition for the title, Mike Flanagan earned the accolade of the greatest horror miniseries of all time six years ago when the director released Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House. The horror miniseries rarely receive as much attention as horror movies or horror TV shows in terms of format, but the format offers directors an opportunity to tell a bigger, more immersive story without necessarily committing to multiple seasons. From 1978’s Salem’s Lot to 2017’s Twin Peaks: The Return, the horror miniseries has a unique place in cultural history.

After 40 years, Stephen King’s independent radio stations are going dark. On Monday, the beloved author announced that all three of his Maine-based radio stations — Wzon, Wzlo, and Wkit — will be shutting down after December 31st.
The decision was made as King is attempting to “get his business affairs in better order,” according to a news release from The Zone Corporation, the company that ran the stations. The release also explains that the three stations “consistently have lost money” over the past four decades, with King personally covering the losses.
Nonetheless, the closures don’t come lightly, with King himself saying, “While radio across the country has been overtaken by giant corporate broadcasting groups, I’ve loved being a local, independent owner all these years.”
Continuing, he expressed the gratitude that he and his wife, Tabitha King, have felt supporting the stations. “I’ve loved the people who’ve gone...

The runtime for Robert Eggers' 2024 Nosferatu remake is revealed, and it sets a record for the horror franchise. Eggers established himself as a premiere horror director with his acclaimed film The Witch (2016). He later veered into dark fantasy with The Lighthouse (2019), while maintaining his sure hand at portraying psychological disintegration. After venturing into epic historical fiction with The Northman (2022), Eggers is back in the horror game with his upcoming Nosferatu remake, starring Bill Skarsgrd as an otherworldly bloodsucker.
With the film set to unleash its gothic horror goodies on Christmas Day, the runtime for Eggers take on Nosferatu has now been revealed (via Fandango), and at 2 hours and 12 minutes, its longer than either previous Nosferatu movie by a considerable margin.
What This Means For Eggers Nosferatu Murnau Needed Less Than 90 Minutes
F.W. Murnau crafted the original Nosferatu, a loose adaptation of Bram Stokers Dracula, with the monster renamed for legal reasons.

Dozens of Stephen King's literary works have received movie and TV adaptations, but modern horror master Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) recently highlighted an oft-overlooked adaptation that definitely deserves more attention in Christine. King has produced well over 100 novels, collections, screenplays, and other assorted works, and some have been adapted into all-time great movies, like The Shawshank Redemption or The Green Mile. Others have been complete misfires, like Silver Bullet or Firestarter. Still others have been reappraised recently and are evolving into cult classics.
Mike Flanagan recently spoke about King's most underrated adaptations, and highlighted four very specific choices, some of which make more sense than others. Flanagan's opinion on the matter certainly means something, given that he has produced some incredible King adaptations himself, including Doctor Sleep, Gerald's Game, and the upcoming Life of Chuck. Of the four choices he gave, one really stands out as...

A year and a half ago, Netflix announced they had given a series order to The Boroughs, a supernatural mystery show that’s executive produced by Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers. Stephen King has announced he has a new book coming out next year, Never Flinch, and with it, Holly Gibney is officially established as his counter to Randall Flagg. Never Flinch is being described as another in King's crime stable, featuring two intertwined narratives that come together in the third act. In it, a madman sends a letter to the Buckeye City Police Department, threatening to kill 14 people in what he claims is an act of atonement. With that, Detective Izzy Jaynes turn to her old friend for help: private investigator Holly Gibney.
Holly Gibney is a well-known name to Stephen King's readers, and, thanks to Justine Lupe portraying her in the Mr. Mercedes adaptation, and Cynthia Erivo portraying Holly Gibney in The Outsider miniseries adaptation, she's also a well-known face. Along with those two adaptations, the character's first starring novel, Holly, is also in development as a TV show.

There have already been two TV miniseries, but a new theatrical adaptation of Stephen King's novel Salem's Lot was brought to life by horror maven James Wan in 2024. Salem's Lot centers on Ben Mears, an author who returns to his childhood hometown with plans to both write a book about the local haunted house and try to exorcise his various personal demons. Starsky and Hutch's David Soul played Ben in the 1979 CBS TV miniseries adaptation of Salem's Lot, which many regard as a creepy classic.
In 2004, Salem's Lot became another two-part miniseries, this time for cable network TNT, and starring Rob Lowe as Ben. However, it would take another 20 years for the next adaptation to surface, with the release of Salem's Lot on Max in late 2024. Following the basic framework of King's novel, creepy vampires and all, the movie was put through the wringer by Warner Bros. before it was finally,...

There are many Stephen King books for which the legendary author has written follow-ups, but some of his most notable titles, surprisingly, have yet to get sequels. Several of King's books have been expanded upon before, but their continuation may not necessarily count as a traditional sequel. For example, King's The Dark Tower books continue certain parts of 'Salem's Lot's narrative, but this series isn't technically a sequel.
Because there are numerous upcoming Stephen King movie and TV show adaptations, many avid readers are revisiting the King of Horror's bibliography. While some titles don't warrant a sequel, there are still plenty of others that deserve an extension and could benefit from elaboration upon the original story. Readers are keen to find out what happens to the characters next, and several King books could absolutely use a sequel.

For many decades, Stephen King's novels and short stories have been adapted into hit movies and TV shows. Iconic movies such as The Shining, Carrie, and The Green Mile were adapted from King's stories. Over the years, fascination with the worlds and characters created by Stephen King has not ceased. It's possible that the books of Stephen King have become more popular than ever before with the rise of streaming services.
Stephen King adaptations have always been very popular on streaming services. However, months ago, one of the best TV shows based on King's work was removed from the Disney-owned Hulu. Recently, the 2016 miniseries 11-22-63 moved to Tubi, which will give new viewers a chance to discover the greatness of the time travel show. While it is arguable that 11-22-63 remains the best Stephen King TV show, a new series premiering in 2025 could be a worthy competitor.

A divisive Christmas horror movie from the 1980s is getting a second remake. The biggest horror remake boom occured in the 2000s, when a bevy of iconic horror titles were rebooted including Dawn of the Dead, Friday the 13th, Halloween, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Last House on the Left, The House on Sorority Row and more. However, remakes have been produced throughout horror history, including the prominent 1980s examples The Thing and The Blob, and the tradition has continued into the modern era with titles including 2020's The Invisible Man, 2022's Firestarter, and 2024's Salem's Lot.
Christmas horror movies are another longstanding tradition of the genre, as many filmmakers have found unique ways to blend the wholesome iconography of the season with bloody murder and mayhem, creating an unsettling juxtaposition. One of the most famous is Bob Clark's 1974 proto-slasher Black Christmas, which itself has been remade twice,...

The season four premiere of Outer Banks brought the Netflix show back onto the streaming charts — but with only half a season released this time, it fell well short of its last premiere.
The YA drama delivered 1.19 billion minutes of viewing for the week of Oct. 7-13 (season four debuted Oct. 10), good for second place overall in Nielsen’s streaming rankings. By comparison, season three’s opening week in February 2023 — which featured the entire season released at once — drew 3.15 billion minutes of watch time.
The half-season release (part two premiered Thursday) for Outer Banks undoubtedly played a part in the lower viewing time total. Season four of Emily in Paris similarly had a sizable decline with a half-season premiere in August (but season three of Bridgerton in May did not).
Netflix’s dating show Love Is Blind led the Oct. 7-13 charts with 1.23 billion minutes of viewing; no other show crossed the 1 billion mark.

The headlines were grim. Slapped with poor reviews and a B- CinemaScore from audiences, Robert Zemeckis’ new movie Here opened to just $4.8 million from 2,642 North American theaters over the Nov. 1-3 weekend despite the intriguing chance to see the veteran director reunite with stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright for the first time since their seminal, Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump three decades ago.

It: Welcome to Derry is on the way, and the upcoming prequel series is making up for the biggest missed opportunity from 2024's major Stephen King movie. After the success of both It movies, It: Welcome to Derry is set to expand on the horrific world of Stephen King's thriller even further, with the series acting as a prequel to the 2017 and 2019 films. The HBO series will take place in the 1960s and focus on an all-new batch of Pennywise victims, with It: Welcome to Derry already acting as a major improvement over this panned Stephen King film.

This post contains spoilers for "Salem's Lot" and the "Dark Tower" series.
If there's one thing you need to know about Stephen King, it's that the guy can't resist a shared universe. Characters from one book will often cameo in another book, for seemingly no other reason than to provide a fun treat for his constant readers. Fans of "The Shining" in 1986 were stunned when Dick Hallorann popped up for a random section of "It," just as "It" fans were pleasantly surprised when the time-travelling protagonist of "11/22/63" stopped by 1950s Derry to hang out with young Richie and Bev.
None of these moments hold a candle to what King did with his "Dark Tower" series, however. The meta implications already start to get a bit trippy in the first few books, but by the fifth book in the series, "Wolves of the Calla," King fully breaks the fourth wall. The...

A new Indian title has become the first horror movie to chart at the domestic box office since Halloween. The months leading up to Halloween tend to be a prime release window for titles in the horror genre, as the anticipation of the holiday at the end of October results in increased interest in horror viewing that is reflected on both the box office and streaming charts. However, the weeks after Halloween, leading up to Thanksgiving, tend to be a more fallow period where few horror movies find success as the industry turns toward holiday and awards season releases.
The release pattern for 2024 horror movies showcases this principle quite well. September through October saw the releases of many theatrical horror titles including Terrifier 3, Smile 2, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Speak No Evil, and Never Let Go, as well as streaming movies such as Apartment 7A and Salem's Lot. Netflix’s rom-com series Nobody Wants This attracted more viewing in its second week, moving up one spot to second overall in Nielsen’s weekly streaming charts.
The series starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody drew 1.21 billion minutes of watch time for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 6, a 16 percent improvement on its premiere week. It also moved up one spot in the overall rankings, as the prior week’s second-place title, Inside Out 2, dropped by 50 percent to a still strong 908 million minutes of viewing on Disney+.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story finished first overall for the third consecutive week with 1.41 billion minutes of viewing, down about 41 percent week to week. Netflix’s dating show Love Is Blind returned to the charts with a billion-minute week; its seventh season premiered on Oct. 2.
