Fans of 1980s and 90s sci-fi are in for a treat, as the Terminator franchise time travels to unexpected inspiration. Writer Declan Shalvey revealed to Dynamite Entertainment his upcoming comic series draws from the beloved TV show Quantum Leap.
Shalvey’s love of Quantum Leap is no secret – the writer envisioned pitching the property before this opportunity arose. “It’s Quantum Leap from hell,” he muses, blending the premise of involuntarily body-hopping through time with Terminator’s dystopian future war storyline.
Both franchises made meaningful marks exploring temporal mechanics. Quantum Leap saw protagonist Sam Beckett leaping into uncertain situations each week, striving to “put right what once went wrong.” Meanwhile, the Terminator films established a dynamic loop of fate and resistance across multiple timelines.
In the new series, malevolent AI SkyNet targets key figures throughout history. Mirroring Quantum Leap, Terminators will inhabit human forms while eliminating resistance ancestors. Readers can...

Exclusive: Boxing mother-and-son drama Undercard, starring comedian Wanda Sykes in her first big dramatic film role, has begun principal photography in Puerto Rico for Catalyst Studios.
Emmy Award-winning Sykes plays Cheryl “No Mercy” Stewart, a two-time former boxing champion and recovering alcoholic.
The movie follows her attempts to reconnect with 20-year-old son Keith, a talented but troubled young man, played by rising star Bentley Green (Heist 88), who has followed his mother’s footsteps into the boxing ring.
When Keith finds himself alone in his corner, because of his gambling-addicted trainer, he is forced to turn to his mother. Determined to right past wrongs, she embarks on a mission to train her son for glory in a World Championship title fight.
They are joined in the cast by William Stanford Davis (Abbott Elementary), Xavier Mills, Estella Kahiha, Berto Colon and Puerto Rican star Roselyn Sanchez.
Undercard marks the sixth production in two years for Catalyst Studios.
It is directed by Tamika Miller and co-written by Miller and Anita M. Cal.
The movie is billed as following in the tradition of Raging Bull, Million Dollar Baby and Creed, but with the story told through the eyes of the trainer.
“It is about the struggle and survival of the human spirit. Getting up when life does its best to knock you down. This powerful, moving story is a metaphor for our own challenges. And it shows Wanda like we have never seen her before,” said Catalyst Studios Chairperson Holly Anderson Levow.
“I’m thrilled to have this amazing cast bring Undercard to life, with Wanda leading the way in what I know will be a breathtaking performance,” said Miller.
Veteran producer Anne Clements along with local producers Frances Lausell and Andres Ramirez are overseeing production in Puerto Rico. Kim Coleman is Co-Producer. Sykes also serves as an executive producer.

Of all the ways Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) would leap into others lives to put right what once went wrong on Quantum Leap, the most stories were always ones that involved music. Scott Bakula can do pretty much anything but that man can Sing. In a perfect world, Leap Day would entail some celebrations. Not to worry, though. This 30 Rock episode, starring an iconic Jim Carrey and Andie MacDowell cameo, has your back. Gear up for blue and yellow-themed festivities and, of course, a fictional movie that can give even Groundhog Day a run for its money! Be careful about getting your eyes poked, though.
The titular ninth episode of the sixth season of the Tina Fey-starring satirical sitcom series honors this fake holiday, concocting a blend of tropes seen in most films centered around such celebratory occasions.
Jim Carrey is a fictional character, Dave Williams, in the 30 Rock universe!
Leap Day is portrayed in the show’s mythology as an occurrence that calls for parties and celebrations. And like all great holidays, this one, too, puts the emphasis on a cultural mascot. Here, that is a gilled entity who sports...

This article contains spoilers for Quantum Leap season 2 episode 11 “The Outsider.”
Fate. The main narrative thrust of the original and new Quantum Leap is changing fate. To put right what once went wrong. That doesn’t mean that Leapers like Sam (Scott Bakula) and Ben (Raymond Lee) can just change anything they want however. When Leapers are given their missions they’re often small, helping individual lives instead of making changes on a global scale. Why? Why can’t a Leaper, who’s supposed to make the world better, change bigger parts of the fate of history?
Season 2 episode 11 of the new Quantum Leap, “The Outsider” brings this question to the forefront. In the two previous episodes, Ben had learned current love interest Hannah’s husband was going to die of heart disease. In a full Back to the Future moment, Ben writes a letter to Hannah before that happens so she can prevent it.

The new series of Quantum Leap has brought in many elements from the original show. The returns of Beth (Susan Diol) and one-time leapee Magic (Ernie Hudson), name-checking the Evil Leapers, addressing the question of whether Sam (Scott Bakula) ever made it home, and many more. But two seasons in a major part of Quantum Leap lore has failed to be even hinted at.
Sam’s daughter. Sammy Jo.
Introduced as part of the “Trilogy” series of episodes in 1992 in the original Quantum Leap’s fifth and final season, Sammy Jo’s origin is complicated. The three episodes follow Sam as he leaps into different people attempting to help a woman named Abigail Fuller, who in each leap is accused of murder. Sam first meets her as a young girl in “Trilogy Part 1” when he leaps into her father, saving her from being killed.

Quantum Leap cast members discuss the possibility of Ben's return in season 2, acknowledging that it would drastically change the show's format. They express their trust in the writers and their excitement about the direction the show will take. If Ben does return, the focus of Quantum Leap would shift, no longer revolving around time jumps and experiencing strangers' lives. The cliffhanger ending of episode 8 leaves viewers with unanswered questions about what comes next.
After that huge Ben twist, cast members from Quantum Leap are teasing the rest of season 2. The NBC series, built around the disappearance of Dr. Sam Beckett, follows Ben Song (Raymond Lee) and a group of researchers who attempt to resume the Quantum Leap project. If there’s one question that dominates discussion around the new Quantum Leap, especially with those who aren’t die-hard fans, it’s a simple one. “Is Scott Bakula gonna show up?” Even two seasons in there’s still a hope among original series fans that original series star Bakula will somehow make a return appearance as Dr. Sam Beckett.
It’s not as if Bakula has avoided more modern throwbacks to the original series. He made a comedic return as Sam in a sketch on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2016 and a self-deprecating appearance on a Quantum Leap-referencing episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia in 2017. Bakula clearly has affection for the role, so why hasn’t he appeared in the new series?
It’s not for lack of trying. In 2022 the script for the original version of the pilot of the new Quantum Leap leaked online,...

“Quantum Leap” is traveling back to the 1992 LA riots in Wednesday’s new episode.
In an exclusive clip shared with TheWrap, Ben (Raymond Lee) lands in the body of 18-year-old Daniel Park, a first generation Korean American teenager working at his father’s shoe store in Los Angeles’ Koreatown. Jumping to 1992 alongside Magic (Ernie Hudson), the pair learn they have been transported to the day when all four officers involved in the beating of Rodney King were acquitted of assault, with three of the four acquitted of using excessive force.
“I remember watching the riots on TV — how unfair that verdict was to the Black community and how angry people were over it,” Ben told Magic as he realizes his new surroundings. “I remember the rooftop Koreans trying to protect their businesses … I can’t possibility be here to stop all that right?”
Instead, Magic informs Ben that amid the riots prompted Daniel’s father,...

This article contains spoilers for Quantum Leap season 2 episode 3.
The original Quantum Leap, despite being a show centered on time travel, was fairly grounded. Besides Sam (Scott Bakula) being able to leap into other people’s lives, the show kept its stories pretty down to Earth. Sam would help someone with a problem viewers could easily relate to. It’s part of what makes the show so beloved to this day. It was sci-fi but not Too sci-fi.
Which is why it was more than a little strange when, in season 5 episode 6 “Star Light, Star Bright,” Sam encountered aliens. No, it wasn’t a fake out to generate interest in the episode. Sam really proves aliens are real. The story follows Sam’s leap into an old man in 1966 who’s in danger of being put in a home for believing in aliens. Despite seeing a UFO at the beginning of the story,...

Magnum P.I.’s Season 5 finale “absolutely works” as a series finale, despite not being planned as one, showrunner Eric Guggenheim tells TVLine. As such, he sees no need to make edits or go so far as to shoot new scenes to put a tidier bow on the cancelled island drama.
In late June, NBC “opted not to order additional episodes” beyond the Season 5 it greenlit after CBS said aloha to Magnum after four seasons. That left 10 episodes to air this TV season, and though they were at first penciled in for “midseason,” NBC changed its mind and slotted them for this fall,...

Does a Leaper control their leaps? It’s a question that Quantum Leap, both old and new series, seemingly have answers for. In the original show, Sam (Scott Bakula) was leaping because he was conducting a time travel experiment that went, to quote the original narration for the series, “a little caca.” He couldn’t control his leaps and hoped his next leap would be the one that would finally bring him home.
In the first season of the new series, Ben (Raymond Lee) had somewhat planned his leaps in order to get to a place in time where he could save the love of his life, Addison (Caitlin Bassett.) Oh boy.
After a miraculously short hiatus thanks to the forethought of the showrunners and hard work of the production team, NBC's hit sci-fi series, Quantum Leap, returns this week on a new night and at a new time with all-new adventures for Dr. Ben Song and the Ql team.
Quantum Leap Season 2 premieres at 8/7c on Wednesday, October 4, and it's immediately apparent that Ben does not make it home. So what's a time-traveling physicist to do?
The premiere quickly immerses viewers in an action-packed and comedically brilliant A-Team-gone-wrong-esque operation when the top-secret cargo aboard Ben's plane attracts Russian missiles, and they are shot down.
It's 1978, and with a superb supporting guest cast consisting of Melissa Roxburgh, P.J. Byrne, Aaron Abrams, and Francois Arnaud, Ben must trust his gut and skills to see them through the ordeal.

The fall season is officially underway, and that can only mean one thing:
TV ratings are back, baby!
Viewing is more fragmented than ever, but the numbers are still a good indicator of how shows are performing.
The Irrational may have had little buzz, but it managed to outperform every Quantum Leap Season 1 episode in the 10 p.m. slot among total viewers.
The Jesse L. Martin procedural kicked off on Monday with 4.1 million total viewers and a 0.4 rating.
NBC will be happy with the show improving on the sci-fi drama, which will unspool its second season on Wednesdays, beginning October 4, 2023.
The big test for The Irrational will be how it holds up in the coming weeks, but the numbers are respectable out of The Voice.

The Faith-Leap Trial is one of three major challenges posed in the Gauntlet of Shar dungeon of Baldur's Gate 3, asking your player to cross a dangerous abyss to reach an Umbral Gem. Almost acting like a platforming section, the path across the chasm here is shrouded in darkness. While it may be tricky to find the way forward, there are some clues that could help your party make it across.
The characters in your party have to make a blood sacrifice before entering the room with the Faith-Leap Trial. Although this will cause everyone to have a few less Hit Points, there are no enemies in this challenge that will attack your group. Unlike the other challenges you are tasked with in order to complete the Gauntlet of Shar in Baldur's Gate 3, this trial is the only one that doesn't put you into turned-based combat.

For five seasons, Scott Bakula’s Quantum Leap character, Dr. Sam Beckett, hopscotched through recent history, inhabiting people’s bodies along the way to help them, as the show’s opening reminded us each week, put right what once went wrong. We’ve spoken to Bakula many times over the years; shortly after Quantum Leap was canceled, he admitted the show had left him with an odd psychological quirk: He had a hard time looking in mirrors! There's a market for nostalgia, and NBC's cashed in big with its newest hit, Quantum Leap.
The 2022 revival of the popular 1980s Scott Bakula-anchored time travel series came in like a quantum accelerator, throwing everything and everyone into the mix.
While maintaining some temporal continuity with the original series, the new Quantum Leap introduced viewers to the team behind the project rather than just the leaper and his guide.
What is Quantum Leap about?
The initial twelve-episode order was quickly upped to a full eighteen-episode season, and the leaps got wilder as Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee) slowly regained his memories of why he took his unauthorized leap in the first place.
Guided by his workmate and fiancée, Addison (Caitlin Bassett), he managed to survive each leap into various individuals facing moments of crisis that would change their lives and the future.
In turn, Addison relied on the Q.
