Buckle up folks, the Golden Globe nominations for 2025 have sparked headlines not only for its glitz and glam, but also for breaking records with deserving inclusions and notable omissions. While many iconic and surprising films made its way to the list, one particular nomination snub sparked widespread discussion.

Well, the most talked-about Golden Globe 2025 snub turned out to be Danielle Deadwyler’s The Piano Lesson. Apparently, while the movie previously left a strong impression on fans and critics following its release, its Golden Globe snub seemed like an unfair decision. So let’s take a deeper look into why Deadwyler’s movie should have won a nomination and why the film’s snub seems so infuriating.

Danielle Deadwyler almost reached the Oscar circle in 2023 with her extraordinary performance as a grieving mother in “Till.” But it was one of those tough-sit dramas that just wasn’t seen by enough people. This time, Netflix is behind her next likely awards contender, “The Piano Lesson”. The film is the third Denzel Washington-produced August Wilson adaptation after “Fences” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” — and arguably the best so far.
Directed by Malcolm Washington in his debut, the movie is set in Pittsburgh (per usual) and co-stars John David Washington as the brother who urgently tries to persuade his sister Berniece (Deadwyler) to sell their family inheritance, a giant piano engraved with the faces of their ancestors, and Samuel L. Jackson as their bemused uncle, watching and commenting on the proceedings.
All are superb, but Deadwyler stands out, not only for her powerful female energy among all the men in the house,...

Actors Jonathan Majors and Meagan Good are engaged. The couple revealed the news at Sunday night’s Ebony Power 100 Gala event in Los Angeles, with Good showing off her diamond engagement ring on the red carpet.
In an interview with E! News at the event, the couple said the Ebony Power 100 Gala had a special significance for them as it was where they first in 2022. Majors, 35, and Good, 43, have been dating since May 2023, two months after the Lovecraft Country actor was arrested over an alleged assault against ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.
Good publicly stood by Majors as he was later charged and stood trial for assaulting Jabbari in November 2023. The Shazam! actress was a near constant presence in court during the three-week trial. In December, Majors was found guilty of one count of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment, and in April this year he was sentenced to a...

Rosie Perez has been a lifelong boxing fan. However she kept her love for the sport a secret because so many people find it “too barbaric.” But a few years ago, she began tweeting commentary while watching fights.
Fast forward to today. Nicknamed “The First Lady of Boxing,” Perez is one of the official commentators of the Mike Tyson and Jake Paul match taking place Friday night in Dallas and airing live on Netflix.
“It’s gonna be and interesting matchup,” Perez told me Thursday. “Jake Paul is in his late 20s, and Mike Tyson is 58. Three decades. It’s crazy.”
Like many, Perez wasn’t thrilled when Paul began his career. “Everyone hated on him when he first got into boxing, including myself,” she said. “But it was less about hate, it was more about concern. This is a real sport. You don’t play boxing. People can get hurt.

Lakeith Stanfield made his feature debut just over a decade ago, but in the years since, he's put together a career that would be notable for an actor working in Hollywood twice as long. He's made a name for himself on both television and the big screen, working in a variety of different genres and with exciting up-and-coming directors. With his penetrating stare and off-kilter sense of humor, Stanfield is an undeniably distinctive screen presence, and he's becoming one of the most fascinating actors of his generation. Over the course of his career, he's also gathered a collection of accolades, including an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 2021 for his work in "Judas and the Black Messiah."
Although almost all of his performances are noteworthy in one way or another, there are a few that stand out as the best of the best. Here, we've assembled the most interesting...

Marvel Studios’ troubled Blade reboot won’t be arriving late next year, as its November 2025 slot is taken by Predator: Badlands.
Marvel Studios’ Blade will not be coming out on November 7th 2025. If you’ve been following the development woes of this particular project, that news won’t come as a surprise to you given that the above date is little more than a year away – and as yet, the film doesn’t officially have a director. For all we know, it doesn’t even have a finished script.
Back in September we covered a story that stated The Harder They Fall director Jeymes Samuel was in line for the director’s chair, a move which would have seen the filmmaker become the project’s third director following the departures of Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange. Not long after however, Samuels debunked that report from World Of Reel, stating that...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Blade has had a long, rough ride through the development process, and as of right now it doesn’t even have a director attached. So there probably weren’t many Marvel fans who were expecting the movie to stick with its November 7, 2025 release date – and therefore, few will be surprised or disappointed to hear that Blade has indeed been bumped out of 2025. Deadline reports that Disney will be releasing 20th Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands on November 7, 2025 instead of Marvel’s vampire slayer movie.

Fox said late Sunday night that it is developing a drama series tentatively titled Billionaire Apocalypse that hails from The Morning Show creator Jay Carson and counts Hugh Jackman among its executive producers.
The drama, from Fox Entertainment Studios for the Fox network, is written and executive produced by Carson, creator and writer of Apple+’s Emmy-nominated Morning Show. Also serving as exec producers are Lawrence Bender (Flesh and Bone, Pulp Fiction) and Kevin Brown (Flesh and Bone, Trumbo).
The logline for the drama: “The richest man on the planet, 200 of his employees, and his family are forced to flee to his private island in the wake of a global financial collapse, where the employees and family members — who he’s treated as afterthoughts for decades — quickly realize he’s no longer rich and thus no longer in charge.”
The project, which has received a script commitment, is being distributed worldwide by Fox Entertainment Global.

Blade Reboot Reportedly Still Doesn't Have a Director - Main Image
There are several projects that sound great but could never get off the ground. For a while, it was the Sandman movie—which became a series, and then there was the Green Lantern reboot—which also got retooled for television. Another project that seems to be languishing in development hell is the Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot with Mahershala Ali.
The film was announced back in 2019, and there has been no significant update since. Now, the film just received a major update—but it’s not one the fans are going to be happy with.

“Magazine Dreams” is turning the page.
The drama, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023, quickly became one of the most buzzed-about films at the festival and was promptly acquired by Searchlight Pictures. But after its star Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assault and harassment, the studio dropped the movie from its release schedule. It was initially thought of as a potential Oscar powerhouse, especially for Majors’ towering lead performance.
Now, Briarcliff Entertainment, which is releasing the similarly hot-button Donald Trump movie “The Apprentice” later this month, has acquired the rights to “Magazine Dreams.” Briarcliff is planning an early 2025 release.
The film is the directorial debut of writer Elijah Bynum, who recently co-wrote Lee Daniels’ Netflix horror movie “The Deliverance.” It follows a bodybuilder (Majors) who slips into a world of obsession and violence in his quest for body perfection. Marvel Studios' Blade reboot has been plagued by production woes ever since it was first announced over four years ago, going through a number of directors and writers.
The project finally seemed to be back on track after a recent update claimed that shooting was set to commence this Fall, but we recently learned that director Yann Demange will no longer helm the movie.
These continuous setbacks have led to speculation that the project has been shelved, but we have been assured that it is still moving forward with Mahershala Ali attached to star as the Daywalker, and we're now hearing that Marvel may have settled on a new director.
According to The World of Reel's Jordan Ruimy, the studio recently met with several potential directors, and Jeymes Samuel "impressed the Marvel brass." He doesn't know if the filmmaker has officially entered talks, but believes there's a good chance he will ultimately land the gig.

Marvel’s troubled Blade reboot – which has been in limbo for years now – may finally have a script, a director and a shoot date.
While Marvel Studios is having a fair old crack at pulling itself out of the creative and commercial malaise that has set in over the last couple of years, one project that keeps dominating the headlines and reminding us of the studio’s rocky fortunes is Blade, the announced title that will feature Mahershala Ali as the MCU’s premier vampire hunter.
Blade’s path to production has been something of a mess, with the project already burning through two directors (Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange) and around six writers, including Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo and Nic Pizzolatto. Getting that many writers to take a crack at a script isn’t that unusual, but having so much of this process played out...

Exclusive: Indican Pictures has acquired North American rights for Boaz Yakin’s dance, rap and slam poetry-led romance Once Again (For The Very First Time) and will start rolling it out theatrically across the U.S. in October.
Billed as a break-dance, hip-hop supernatural fantasy, the movie stars Jeroboam Bozeman as DeRay, a legendary rapper and convicted killer who falls through the sky to land outside the door of Naima (Mecca Verdell), a slam poetess who is the love of his life.
The lovers are both survivors of trauma and guilt, who channel their pain into their art against the backdrop of the war zone of the New York streets. They wrestle with their love in an emotional and psychological space that is out of place and out of time.
The dance sequences were choreographed by Rennie Harris and the score was written by Marcus Norris (Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul.

As someone who has never punched somebody in this lifetime, I do love to watch movies about boxing. Yes, it’s a pretty nonsensical sport, but when every punch, jab, and hook is injected with complex emotions and whatnot, it does make for an enjoyable viewing experience. I grew up watching the Rocky movies, and the sequel franchise, Creed, is pretty damn good. Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull is a masterpiece, and there’s no doubt about that. Cinderella Man, The Fighter, and Southpaw are some other amazing examples. Veering away from the traditional “hero’s journey” format, there’s The Harder They Fall, The Hurricane, Million Dollar Baby, and, dare I say, Real Steel. Indian movies have fared quite well in this subgenre with Mukkabaaz, Sarpatta Parambarai, and Irudhi Suttru by talking about politics in sports, casteism, and sexism. Boxer, the Polish Netflix film, aims to show yet another...

For as long as Danielle Deadwyler has had to wait to take the lead in an action film like “40 Acres,” it takes far less time for the “Till” star to demonstrate the full range of her strengths. Given the kind of introduction usually reserved for the likes of Clint Eastwood or Bruce Willis as a camera runs up her back, only to reveal her face after plunging a knife into an intruder on her property, it just hits differently when a Black woman is presented with such power, and though R.T. Thorne’s dynamic siege thriller has some familiar moves, it is full of fresh ideas.
Set in a dystopian future where the animal population has been wiped out 14 years earlier because of a fungal pandemic, “40 Acres” shows a new world order: Farmers who can produce their own crops hold their own while others shuffle along for survival...

On a bright, late summer day in midtown Manhattan, the city’s bustling sidewalk traffic has been brought to a standstill. Clutching morning coffees, a small gaggle of curious onlookers have gathered on a Fifth Avenue corner to watch Danielle Deadwyler pose for a photographer who can’t get enough of the gamine star’s enviable beauty. It helps that Deadwyler, sporting a perilously low-plunging Sportmax sheath dress and demure white patent leather pumps, is putting on quite the show, serving a range of looks — from coquettish to fierce — in rapid-fire succession. “Is she famous,” a tourist, thrilled to be enjoying a New York moment, asks. “Should I know her?”
The answer is a definitive yes. Though not yet a household name, Deadwyler has been delivering the type of performances that garner rapturous praise from critics, co-stars and fans alike. An actor’s actor, she shined as the tortured graphic...

Ok, Mister is Cole’s third special for Netflix on the heels of Charleen’s Boy and Cole Hearted, which were respectively released in 2022 and 2019. In between the release of his two Netflix specials, Cole put out Workin’ It Out, a stand-up documentary released exclusively on Netflix is a Joke’s YouTube channel, which has there garnered 2.4 million views to date.

There’s a haunting simplicity to James O’Barr’s comic book “The Crow.” The story claims that sometimes — only sometimes — people die under such sad circumstances that their soul can’t rest, so they’re guided back to the land of the living by a crow, in order “to put the wrong things right.” It’s a tale of grief, mostly stuck in the “anger” phase, in which a beautiful walking corpse metes out violent vengeance against the unapologetically evil.
Alex Proyas’ feature film adaptation of “The Crow” was itself the source of overwhelming tragedy when its star, Brandon Lee — the son of martial arts icon Bruce Lee — died in an accident on set. This context can make Proyas’ film hard to watch: Lee’s complicated portrayal of a sad soul coming to terms with pain and mortality hits extremely close to home. But his performance also makes the film incredibly powerful.

As any UK-based film lover knows, the opening night gala of the London Film Festival is always one to keep an eye out for. In recent years, that coveted slot has been reserved for the likes of Emerald Fennell's scandalous scandalous Saltburn, Matthew Warchus' raucous Roald Dahl romp Matilda The Musical, and Samuel Jeymes' slick neo-spaghetti western The Harder They Fall. And this year's 68th BFI London Film Festival — which will run from Wednesday 9 October to Sunday 20 October — looks to have another doozy lined up for us. As announced by the BFI earlier today, kicking things off this year will be Oscar and BAFTA award winning writer-director Steve McQueen's Apple Original WWII drama Blitz, which stars Saoirse Ronan, Harris Dickinson, and nine-year-old newcomer Elliott Heffernan.

Kathryn Bigelow‘s upcoming Netflix film is shaping up after the additions of Idris Elba and Rebecca Fergusson as Gabriel Basso and Jared Harris enter final negotiations to join the cast.
Nearly everything about this movie remains secret, from the title to the synopsis to the stars’ roles. According to Deadline, the story revolves around the White House, where a crisis erupts. While there’s not much to go on, it’s not impossible to imagine Elba, Fergusson, Basso, and Harris leading a political thriller.
It’s been a while since Bigelow shot a feature film. Her last effort was the crime drama Detroit, which starred John Boyega, Anthony Mackie, Algee Smith, Will Poulter, Kaitlyn Dever, and Jacob Latimore. The fact-based drama, focusing on the 1967 Detroit riots, follows a group of rogue police officers who respond to a complaint with retribution rather than justice.

Before “Iron Man” and “Thor,” before “Spider-Man” and “X-Men,” there was “Blade.” Starring Wesley Snipes as the titular daywalking half-vampire vampire slayer, the movie debuted in 1998 at a time when Marvel comics had yet to enjoy a successful feature film adaptation. The New Line Cinema production was enough of a hit — grossing $131.2 million worldwide — that Snipes returned for two sequels, establishing the company’s first ever bona fide movie franchise. Had “Blade” bombed, the Marvel Cinematic Universe may never have happened.
So when Marvel Studios announced in 2019 that two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali was going to bring the character to the MCU, it seemed like a total no brainer.
Five years later, however, “Blade” has weathered the Covid-19 pandemic and two major guild strikes, faced three release date changes, lost two directors, and hired at least a half dozen screenwriters in what could be the most protracted development process...

Since the release of Quentin Tarantino’s revisionist Western thriller The Hateful Eight in 2015, fans had been eagerly awaiting the director’s next project for a torturous four years. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), his grandiose crime drama delves into the relationship between the Manson family murders and a fictional TV actor (& his stunt double).

Idris Elba said this week that inhabiting “completely socially unacceptable” characters feels like therapy, but that great villains are perhaps more indebted to their writer than the actor who brought them to life.
“These people get to say things that we only think in the deepest, darkest recesses of our brains,” Elba told the Wall Street Journal of “bad guy” roles. “They say horrible things and scream horrible things and get to be completely socially unacceptable. As an actor, that’s sometimes a gift, sometimes a bit of therapy.”
Elba has played several notoriously terrible characters over the years, including the villains in Beasts of No Nation (2015), Hobbs & Shaw (2019) and The Harder They Fall (2021).
Of course, part of the effectiveness of a characters’ most villainous qualities, Elba said, is that they “tend to be well-written.”

Now that Jonathan Majors appears in two Netflix movies, Da 5 Bloods and , which performance do you prefer? Let’s unpack how these two roles compare and contrast.
Majors plays David, the loyal and compassionate son of former Vietnam soldier Paul (Delroy Lindo), in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods and a bitter, wronged son in The Harder They Fall. Up front, we should say that the two movies have one amazing connection: Majors co-stars with Lindo in both, and the two actors give great performances in both.
However, as Lindo’s son in Bloods, Majors plays a young man with a much milder temper. As a college professor sporting retro T-shirts and caps worn backward, he is at first fully uninterested in his father’s trip back to Vietnam to try to right a wrong and find a hidden fortune. Since appearing in Destin Daniel Cretton's Short Term 12 upon graduating from high school, Stanfield has gone on to work with premier talents, including Ava DuVernay, Jordan Peele and Donald Glover. Most recently, he joined his contemporaries Jonathan Majors, Regina King and Idris Elba in Netflix’s thunderous Western The Harder They Fall.
Typically, Hollywood’s leading men have been charismatic but often hyper-masculine. That’s why moviegoers have historically gravitated toward everyone from Tom Cruise to Denzel Washington. Though Cruise is seen as a heartthrob, many of his top-grossing films like the Mission: Impossible franchise center on his ability to perform death-defying, heroic stunts. As a result, these roles tend to lack a true emotional pull. Washington’s career has been more diverse, but some of his biggest films, including Training Day and American Gangster, still center on...
