(Welcome to Animation Celebration, a recurring feature where we explore the limitless possibilities of animation as a medium. In this edition: season 3 of "Clone High" and "Jellystone!")
Animation fans (and fans of good movies regardless of style) have been thrust into an emotional tornado spinning as wildly as the Tasmanian Devil regarding the release of director Dave Green ("Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows") and writer Samy Burch's ("May December") live-action/animated hybrid Looney Tunes courtroom flick, "Coyote vs. Acme." What should be an absolute no-brainer hit at the box office is at risk of being scrapped for a tax write-off despite positive test screenings, the result of yet another frustrating corporate decision prioritizing capitalism over creativity, and an all-out attack on the art of filmmaking.
Of course, you realize, this means war.
Listen, I don't think I need to tell anyone that despite the animation industry...

Curb Your Enthusiasm returns to Max this month in what’s being called the show’s final season (for now). If you’re not ready for the Larry David-centric comedy series to end, you can binge all eleven of the show’s previous seasons on Max right now before hitting the new episodes.
Tokyo Vice will also be back in February for season 2. Stars Ansel Elgort, Ken Watanabe, Rinko Kikuchi, Rachel Keller, Show Kasamatsu, and Ayumi Ito are joined by Kubozuka and Miki Maya this time around, as Jake Adelstein feels the danger closing in on him. Max also welcomes you to the premiere of the highly acclaimed (and highly depraved) Dicks: The Musical this month, as a couple of self-obsessed businessmen discover they’re identical twins and decided to bring their divorced parents back together.
Here’s everything coming to (and leaving) HBO and Max this month…

Popular YouTube content creator Grace Helbig announced that she has breast cancer in a video on Monday. In her video, she said she received the cancer diagnosis about a month ago.
Helbig said she was diagnosed with triple-positive breast cancer, which she called “super treatable and highly beatable.” She was diagnosed after noticing a small lump on her breast. She said in her video that she was unsure how to bring it up to her doctor because she was afraid of looking uneducated about her own body. But now, she urges everyone to go get checked.
“Get those lumps checked,” she said. “And don’t be afraid to ask the doctor what you think might be a stupid question.”
In addition to her YouTube channel, the 37-year-old internet personality and comedian co-hosts and co-created the podcast “This Might Get Weird” alongside Mamrie Hart. In 2015, Helbig hosted her own comedy talk show on E!

Prime Video today announced the acquisition of two new DC animated Batman series, alongside an original animated film from Warner Bros. Animation and DC. The film Merry Little Batman is ordered with a spinoff series, Bat-Family, along with a two-season order for Batman: Caped Crusader, from executive producers Bruce Timm, J J Abrams, and Matt Reeves. The Batman animated titles will premiere exclusively on Prime Video.
“Batman: The Animated Series helped pioneer in the evolution of superhero storytelling and defined the Dark Knight for a generation,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon and MGM Studios. “Batman: Caped Crusader will no doubt continue that tradition and, alongside Merry Little Batman and Bat-Family, we’re thrilled to collaborate with Warner Bros. Animation to offer a variety of takes of the Batman mythos to our global Prime Video customers.”
“We are excited to partner with Amazon to begin an all-new animated chapter of Batman.

The Harry Potter films are full of iconic performances and memorable actors. Daniel Radcliffe became an international star when he landed the leading role as the titular Harry Potter, and Alan Rickman’s tenure as Professor Severus Snape is arguably his most famous role since he played Hans Gruber in Die Hard.

Roughly 50 years after the first episode of “The Jetsons” premiered, fans are gearing up to celebrate the birth of George Jetson, which according to lore, is July 31, 2022. But is that really his birthday?
On Thursday, a hawk-eyed fan pointed out that “someone is about to give birth” to the show’s main character, via a fan site listing the family patriarch’s exact birthdate.
The animated sitcom created by William Hannah and Joseph Barbera took place in the 21st century. Although no mention to a specific year was ever made in the show, promotional materials and articles from the time explained that it was set exactly 100 years in the future, according to MeTV.
Further evidence can be found in the episode “Test Pilot,” which aired Dec. 30, 1962. When Jetson’s doctor tells him he “should live to be 150,” he replies, “I’ve got 110 good years ahead of me!” – making him 40 years old.

WarnerMedia Kids & Family will pick up extra episodes of “Jellystone!,” the animated series that presents a modern lens on the company’s vast store of characters from its Hanna-Barbera library.
The series’ second season, which consists of 19 new episodes, is set to debut Thursday, March 17, on HBO Max. All episodes will be made available at a later date on the company’s Cartoon Network. The company has ordered 40 more “Jellystone” cartoons to add to its library. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Animation.
The series is supervised by showrunner and executive producer C.H. Greenblatt, who previously described the challenge of taking such familiar characters and updating them for current audiences. “This was definitely the biggest challenge I have had,” he told Variety in July. “We were basically making ‘The Simpsons,’ season five, right out of the gate.”

Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound and Snagglepuss once ruled as crown princes of Saturday-morning TV. Now they are simply hoping to hold court among a legion of young streamers who watch video at any time they choose.
The cartoon characters are stand-outs from the Hanna-Barbera animation studio, which in the last half of last century accounted for the bulk of animated programing shown each Saturday morning on ABC, NBC and CBS. Creations ranged from the memorable to the decidedly less so. This summer’s San Diego Comic-Con once again invites fans to sit on their couches and enjoy the pop culture extravaganza from the safety of their homes. There is one difference from last year’s virtual event, however: It will be an abbreviated one, taking place over three days, from Friday, July 23 through Sunday, July 25 — but there are still a bevy of TV show panels on the lineup, which will be streaming for free via YouTube.
