Megan Fox was once seen as the next Angelina Jolie during the peak of the Transformers star’s career. She welcomed this comparison since Fox considered herself one of Jolie’s many fans. However, Jolie’s father felt Fox needed to meet other requirements before the comparisons truly meant anything.
What Jon Voight thought of Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox comparisons Angelina Jolie | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Voight and Jolie have had a complicated relationship to say the least, but Voight never lost respect for his daughter. Jolie followed in his footsteps as an actor, and even took her career a step further by transitioning into a filmmaker. So despite their differences, Jolie couldn’t have made the Public Enemies actor any prouder.

Brie Larson’s introduction scene in Avengers: Endgame showed her as an all-powerful superhero who saved Tony Stark from space. After the battle with Thanos, only Tony and Nebula are left aboard the Benatar, with quickly depleting resources. Captain Marvel arrives at a time when Tony is almost sure that he will be dead in space and leaves an emotional message for Pepper Potts.

The creative mind is a finicky, fragile thing. Sometimes inspiration floods the senses, prompting a flurry of productivity — some of which, if you're lucky, is actually usable if not good! At other times, it's a struggle to write so much as a word, or draw merely a line without everything feeling totally wrong. This is especially frustrating if/when you realize your mood has no impact on your process. You can be downright chipper, and not be able to produce anything of merit. Meanwhile, a low period can provoke great art if you can work through whatever it is that's dragging you down.
And then there is anxiety, the most debilitating force in the creative life. When you find yourself dealing with panic attacks that come on for seemingly no reason at all, you're constantly on guard for the next one, praying like hell that it won't hit at a...

Updated: Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan have officially signed on to star in the Paramount+ series from Guy Ritchie and Ronan Bennett.
It was previously reported that the trio were in final negotiations to join the show. The project had initially been developed with the title “The Donovans,” with plans to function as an across-the-pond spin-off of the Showtime series “Ray Donovan,” which was led by Liev Schreiber for seven seasons and a film adaptation. However, it has been reworked into a standalone series with no connections to that franchise. It was also previously reported that it was filming under the working title “The Associate,” but that is no longer the case.
Production is now underway in London, with the untitled show slated to debut in 2025 on Paramount+ with Showtime. The role reunites Hardy and Ritchie, who previously worked together on the 2008 film “RocknRolla.” It also keeps Mirren in business with Paramount,...

It's a common lament that there aren't enough original movies anymore, and that every film not belonging to a franchise is born of a pre-existing intellectual property that's likely been mined before. How many trips are we going to take back to Middle-earth? Are we really doing Harry Potter again? And another "Wuthering Heights" with a white Heathcliffe (when he's written as Black in Emily Brontë's novel)?
Yet some yarns are more durable than others. There's always room for another "Hamlet," because part of the thrill is in watching great actors and directors tackle one of the greatest plays ever written -- one that can be shifted from Denmark to locales like New York City, the Elsinore brewery, or Pride Rock. And no one's mad when one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes mysteries gets dusted off, even though we all know how the plot shakes out.

Plot: An unrivaled and highly elusive lone assassin, the Jackal, makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee. But following his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake.
Review: The Day of the Jackal is a title that resonates even if you have not seen the 1973 film or the novel it was based on. Loosely remade in 1997 as The Jackal, starring Bruce Willis and Richard Gere, the core plot of the Frederick Forsyth novel followed a master assassin attempting to kill the President of France and the investigation to stop him. While the original film was a critical and box office success, the dated subject matter has been ripe for a contemporary update. The new Sky/Peacock limited series The Day of the Jackal...

Sometimes, to strike the right adversarial or simply awkward dynamic between cast members, you've got to, in the words of The Offspring, keep 'em separated.
Andy Muschietti did this with the kids and Bill Skarsgård while shooting "It," and the young actors responded with genuine terror in their scenes with Pennywise the killer clown. And sometimes the actors remain distant from their co-stars by going method and staying in character throughout the shoot. Daniel Day-Lewis is famous for this, going so far as to speak as Abraham Lincoln when texting with Sally Field during the making of Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln."
Christian Bale is known for going to similar extremes when getting into character. How extreme? Prior to shooting Brad Anderson's 2004 thriller "The Machinist," he dropped a startling 62 pounds to give his character the emaciated look the script called for.

Channing Tatum, a natural athlete who found that college was not to his liking, moved to Tampa in his teens to work construction and found an outside gig as a male stripper at night. To Tatum’s credit, he never denied his stripping gig but instead turned it into artistic gold (years after he became an actor) with a hit franchise you may have heard about: “Magic Mike” (2012), “Magic Mike Xxl” (2015) and “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” (2023).
After being discovered by a talent scout, Tatum started his career with small movie parts until he snagged the lead in “Step Up,” (2006), a successful dance/romance mash-up. Tatum’s looks and athleticism, as well as his dancing and acting skills attracted casting directors, who began to place him in bigger and bigger films.

Your eyes do not deceive you. Giovanni Ribisi — the same Giovanni Ribisi who boasts more than a hundred acting credits since 1985 — photographed and produced J.T. Mollner’s critically acclaimed thriller Strange Darling. The film’s nonlinear narrative is told through six chapters, and it explores the fallout of a calamitous one-night stand involving Kyle Gallner’s serial killer character, The Demon, and Willa Fitzgerald’s circumspect next target who’s credited as The Lady.
Throughout his four decades on film and TV sets, Ribisi has taken a keen interest in the work of his various directors of photography, and he credits a number of those DPs for sharing their know-how, beginning with Dante Spinotti, whom he worked with on Michael Mann’s Public Enemies (2009) and Garry Marshall’s The Other Sister (1999). Writer/director Jt Mollner‘s “Strange Darling” (in theaters August 23) is a horror film that immediately grabs the viewer’s attention with the vividness and intensity of its imagery. The opening scene of the movie about the final months of a serial killer opens on a terrifying chase scene in flashes of black-and-white, then moves from one distinctive set piece to another, shifting between bold palettes to use color, light, and framing to recalibrate the viewer’s understanding of the unpredictable relationship at the movie’s center. Mollner throws down the gauntlet with an opening title card informing the audience that this is a movie shot on 35mm film; from that point forward, every richly textured image exists to demonstrate just why it was so important to shoot on celluloid, and to alternately delay and reveal the movie’s many thrilling surprises.

The Oscar winner joins the starry ensemble of the Apple TV+ media series that is led by executive producers Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, along with season three stars Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Greta Lee, Jon Hamm and Nicole Beharie.
The Morning Show explores the cutthroat world of morning news and the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning, and ended on another big cliffhanger with its third season.

After delivering the definitive Batman with Batman: The Animated Series, Bruce Timm joined forces with Alan Burnett to give the other member of the World’s Finest a similar treatment. Voiced by Tim Daly, Superman: The Animated Series made its debut in 1996, and is often considered the definitive onscreen portrayal of the character, only next to Christopher Reeve.
But despite its success, Daly wasn’t brought back to voice Clark Kent in Justice League Unlimited, and The Sopranos star had a pretty good idea about why it was the case.

Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton entering into a unique arrangement, J.Lo fighting evil artificial intelligence, the roasting of an NFL legend, a retelling of the invention of the Pop Tart, Brooke Shields and Benjamin Bratt at war and John Mulaney’s six-night live comedy event from Los Angeles are some of the big titles hitting Netflix in May.
Debuting on May 3 is Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut, Unfrosted. The comedy legend works both sides of the camera for this humorous feature take on the birth of the Pop Tart. The movie is set in 1963 as breakfast cereal giants Kellogg’s and Post compete to become the first company to create a morning pastry. Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan and Amy Schumer also star, with Hugh Grant more than likely to steal the whole film with a turn as Tony the Tiger.

When it was released back in 1995, Michael Mann’s film Heat became a global hit. This action thriller starring acting legends Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, as well as then-upcoming actor Val Kilmer, was one of the biggest films of the decade and has become a pillar of the genre. Although Mann had already been an established director by then, Heat further cemented his place in the history of cinema, making him one of the most important creators in the history.
Mann had a relatively long “dry streak” after 2009’s Public Enemies (Blackhat is basically a forgotten movie), to use this term, before last year’s Ferrari was released to solid reviews, with praise directed at Driver’s performance. His return to the spotlight also reignited rumors about a possible sequel to Heat, something that Hollywood has been gossiping about for some time, with Heat 2 becoming a more palpable possibility at the time.

As we prepare for the anticipated release of Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare in theaters on April 19, the Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels director is ready to return to television for a Ray Donovan spin-off series. Loosely based on the hit Showtime series starring Liev Schreiber, The Donovans extends the show’s “fixer” premise to an elite family unit.
Here’s the official description for The Donovans:
“With the most powerful clients in Europe, The Donovans will see family fortunes and reputations at risk, odd alliances unfold, and betrayal around every corner; and while the family might be London’s most elite fixers today, the nature of their business means there is no guarantee what’s in store tomorrow.”
That’s the thing about empires; they can come crashing down anytime. You must be slick and think several steps ahead of opponents to keep the walls from tumbling down.

The Christmas and New Year's box office capped off 2023 with a hefty unexpected bounty. Despite not having a single outright mega-blockbuster hit like "Spider-Man: No Way Home" or "Avatar: The Way of Water" like 2021 and 2022 had, the overall final frame of the year was big enough to push the final domestic tally for the year past the $9 billion mark. A unique aspect of the most recent week was that we had a slew of movies -- "Wonka," "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," "The Color Purple," and "Migration," among others -- carrying the load. The love was spread around, which was very nice to see. Unfortunately, that love did not extend to Michael Mann's "Ferrari," which now finds itself in a precarious situation financially.
Released in theaters on Christmas Day, Mann's first movie since 2015's "Blackhat" did not find much of an audience. The film, a biopic about legendary car-maker...

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

Based on Brock Yates' book "Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races, the Machine," Michael Mann's new biopic "Ferrari" follows the famous Italian car maker through a significant four-month portion of his life wherein his wife Laura (Penélope Cruz) learns about a secret mistress (Shailene Woodley) and son that he had been hiding for years. His company is also on the brink of bankruptcy and a Ferrari vehicle will have to win the 1957 Mille Miglia, a notable Italian car race, to put the company back on the map. In Mann's usual style, "Ferrari" is terse and distant, and the title character, played by Adam Driver, comes across as aloof and robotic; it's hard to imagine this man being passionate enough to maintain one marriage, let alone an entire secret secondary family.

Get ready to spend the holiday season with Michael Mann and Adam Driver with their new film, Ferrari. It would be a relatively shorter visit when compared to historical epics like Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon. Our own Chris Bumbray came away with a positive impression of Ferrari in his recent review, where he stated that it “adds up to a three-dimensional portrait of the man through one very short period in his life…This does the trick pretty well…It’s a very enjoyable, entertaining look at one of the most important names in 20th-century automobiles and an often thrilling depiction of just how dangerous a sport of auto racing can be.” You can read the full review Here.

From his John Dillinger film “Public Enemies” to his long awaited racing drama “Ferrari,” Michael Mann is no stranger to making films about prominent historical figures. But the director has no interest in conventional biopics that document a subject’s entire life.
While discussing his decades-spanning quest to make “Ferrari” with The Guardian, Mann explained that he never considered directing a film about Enzo Ferrari’s overarching life story. Instead, his film follows a 59-year-old Ferrari (Adam Driver) as he attempts to salvage his racing empire as his personal life crumbles around him.
“I wouldn’t have been interested in some lengthy biopic,” Mann said. “Those are documentaries that belong on the History Channel. They never work. And within this four-month period, all the dynamic forces of Enzo’s life are compacted and in collision.”
Mann also explained that Ferrari’s tendency to avoid leaving his hometown further condensed the...

It only took one movie, 2018’s critically acclaimed “A Star Is Born,” for Bradley Cooper to establish himself as one of Hollywood’s most formidable directors. Five years later, his sophomore outing “Maestro” once again sees him directing himself in a complex portrait of a troubled, brilliant musical figure. But even though Cooper is now a peer to some of the industry’s most lauded filmmakers, he still remembers what it’s like to be an actor facing rejection.
Cooper joined The Hollywood Reporter’s Directors Roundtable for a discussion featuring Greta Gerwig, Todd Haynes, Blitz Bazawule, Ava Duvernay, and Michael Mann. While much of the conversation focused on the craft of directing, Cooper took a moment to single out Mann for a kind gesture he made early in Cooper’s career.

Michael Mann’s strange and frequently beguiling Ferrari, which covers three eventful months in the life of Italian motor racing driver and entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari (Adam Driver), is a long-time passion project for its ever-idiosyncratic auteur. Mann wanted to make the film as far back as the early 2000s, when screenwriter Troy Kennedy Martin’s adaptation of a 1991 Ferrari biography by journalist Brock Yates was brought to his attention. It took a few false starts and several major cast changes, in addition to what a massive number of executive producer credits suggest is a transglobal patchwork of financiers. The result bears the scars of a long and rocky gestation, though not always to its detriment.

Since his debut film "Thief" hit theaters in 1981, Michael Mann has enjoyed a reputation as one of the best working directors we have in America. Across masterfully mounted films like "Heat," "Collateral," and "Manhunter," he's also earned a somewhat unusual place in the filmmaking pantheon. He's become somewhat of a household name, his films generally do good business at the box office, and he tends to work in genre -- from the noir to the thriller to the procedural. And yet his films also compete at prestigious international film festivals, they've been given Criterion releases, and he's often lumped in with "arthouse" directors like Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson, rather than action helmers like Michael Bay or Tony Scott.
All this is to say that Mann's career is a bit of a paradox, but it's a wonderful one, and new Michael Mann movies should always be regarded as appointment viewing.

Heat 2 is based on the novel of the same name, which Mann co-wrote with Meg Gardiner and published in August 2023. Ahead of its Venice premiere, New York Film Festival showing, and––to perfectly dovetail with telling your aunt and uncle about the levels of unreality Mann conjured with digital images in Miami Vice, Public Enemies, and Blackhat––Christmas release, Neon have shared a first teaser for the Adam Driver-led biopic of the automotive innovator.
There’s all the stuff we might say about how long Michael Mann’s hoped to make this film, how long we’ve waited for any new film (the Tokyo Vice pilot is nice but doesn’t count), or how great it is having Adam Driver get Ferrari (ahem) over the finish line. I’d rather defer to cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt telling us the goal was to have audiences “feeling like they’re in this machine. This machine is rattling...
