The Ee BAFTA Film Awards happened this evening at the Royal Festival Hall in London, hosted once more by David Tennant.
Poking fun at Trump during his monologue, Tennant also offered the usual celebrity gags and had several stars singing part of The Proclaimers' "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)".
Cautioning audience members that there would not be an intermission as with nominated epic The Brutalist, Tennant also admonished winners to "keep your speeches the opposite of your films: nice and short."
A somewhat surprising addition to the night (though perhaps not given their presence on the soundtracks for both Better Man and Anora) was a performance of "Greatest Day" by Take That.
As for the winners, it was a good night for Conclave, which won Best Film, another Adapted Screenplay trophy for writer Peter Straughan, Best British Film and Editing and A Real Pain, which went home with Original Screenplay for...

I don’t know about you guys, but I never get enough of historical fiction dramas and epic action series and films. Not only do they present us with specific depictions and reimaginings of key moments throughout history, but they also introduce us to the fascinating people—real and imagined—who endured such brutal times. As of late, we’ve seen a heavy focus on a couple of my favorite historical topics, Ancient Rome and gladiators. No film or series has better focused on and depicted gladiatorial life like Starz hit franchise Spartacus, which is set to return later this year with a new installment. Here’s a peek at how Spartacus: House of Ashur is reimagining the franchise’s story.
We first met Ashur in the series premiere, Spartacus: Blood and Sand. He was not a popular character. As a gladiator-turned-assassin for the House of Batiatus, he was villainous and resentful,...

The 97th Oscars Nominations Announcement has just concluded and we now know which movies will go head-to-head with each other during the year's most prestigious awards ceremony.
There are the usual surprise snubs, with Dune: Part Two and Wicked picking up over a dozen nominations between them but receiving nothing in the Best Director category for filmmakers Denis Villeneuve and Jon M. Chu.
Demi Moore, meanwhile, has received a Best Actress nod, only for her The Substance co-star Margaret Qualley to be frozen out. On the plus side, Thunderbolts* star Sebastian Stan did manage to land a Best Actor nomination for his role in The Apprentice as Donald Trump.
In what was a mostly dismal year for comic book adaptations in 2024, the superhero genre has been completely locked out. While these movies rarely make it into the big categories, there's nothing for Deadpool & Wolverine in the technical ones despite Disney...

The nominations have been revealed for the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards, and one critically acclaimed LGBTQ+ film is notably absent from the pack of nominees.
The annual awards ceremony will return for a 36th year in 2025. According to GLAAD, it’s goal is to “recognize and honor fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community in an ever-expanding and media landscape.”
On Wednesday (January 22), the organization revealed the crop of nominees that would be honored at the ceremony. While projects such as Wicked and Queer were notably featured, Netflix’s Emilia Perez was left off the list.
The snub comes after GLAAD declared that the movie, which stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and trans actress Karla Sofia Gascon, was “not good trans representation” in a November 2024 essay. The story included reviews from transgender film critics and noted that “inauthentic portrayals of trans people are offensive and even dangerous.”

Warning: Contains Spoilers for Spirits of Vengeance #5
Lost behind to the wild antics of the 1990s, a far-future variant of the Ghost Rider is about to make a massive comeback. This complex cyborg monstrosity of nanites and military-grade weaponry is virtually no different from a Terminator, instead set in the dystopian future of Earth-2099. For the first time in Ghost Rider comics, the world’s most ridiculously 90s Ghost Rider is finally making it into the prime continuity.
In Spirits of Vengeance #5 - by Sabir Pirzada and Sean Damien Hill - Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch continue their hunt to gather their fellow Ghost Riders before the ominous Spirit of Violence kills them first. After taking on a group of mercenaries called Death Row, Michael Badilino re-bonds with his Spirit, Vengeance.
As the three fully-formed Ghost Riders gather themselves, they prepare to track down more of their kind before the Spirit of Violence can.

One of the many reasons Xo, Kitty is all the rage is because K-culture fans get to live their Korean fantasies through Kitty Song Covey’s story. This includes, but isn’t limited to, being surrounded by beautiful Korean people, experiencing the culture, and living your life to a K-pop soundtrack. You know I needed something to get into the topic of today’s discussion! Anyway, while a lot of the music on the show is quite random, some of it is very strategically placed specifically with context to the show. Of course, that one Enhypen song is the most obvious choice for this season, almost like it was specifically written to shine in this moment. But, leaving that aside, I thought this would be a great opportunity to inspect something that doesn’t need inspecting and try to put reason to something that’s perfectly wholesome by itself, just because I can.

“Spartacus” is back — just without a Spartacus.
On Wednesday, January 15, Starz released the first-look teaser trailer for “Spartacus: House of Ashur,” a sequel to its original three-season “Spartacus” series, which started in 2010 with “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” continued with “Spartacus: Vengeance,” and concluded in 2013 with “Spartacus: War of the Damned.” Between “Blood and Sand” and “Vengeance,” Starz made a six-episode miniseries “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.”
(Spartacus, by the way, is a real historical figure. He was a Thracian gladiator and one of the escaped slaves who led an uprising against the Roman Republic in the early first century BC. Andy Whitfield played Spartacus for the first season and provided a brief voiceover for its prequel. At the time, he was battling stage IV non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Whitfield died in 2011; Liam McIntyre took over the role in Seasons 2 and 3. Kirk Douglas famously played Spartacus in Stanley Kubrick’s 1960 film.)

Roll up, awards buffs: shiny trophy season is hotting up, with BAFTA having announced its nominees for this year’s ceremony. And fittingly, it seems BAFTA members might have gathered in robes to submit their votes on little white slips of paper: papal thriller Conclave is the most-nominated film this year, receiving 12 nods including Best Film, Director for Edward Berger, Leading Actor for Ralph Fiennes, Supporting Actress for Isabella Rossellini, Adapted Screenplay and more. Send up the white smoke, people.
Hot on Conclave’s heels is Emilia Pérez, Jacques Audiard’s genre-defying crime-thriller-musical-character-drama, in which a cartel boss undergoes gender-reassignment surgery to begin her new life. The film is nominated in 11 categories. Audiard is nominated for Director, while the film itself is up for Best Film, Adapted Screenplay, Film Not In The English Language. Emilia herself, Karla Sofía Gascón, is up for Leading Actress, with Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña...

On Wednesday, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced its 78th annual BAFTA Awards nominees, with expected contenders Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, and Emilia Pérez nominated for Best Film.
Conclave led all films with 12 nominations, including bids for Best Film, Best British Film, Best Director for Edward Berger, Best Adapted Screenplay for Peter Straughan, Best Actor for Ralph Fiennes, and Best Supporting Actress for Isabella Rossellini. It’s the second time BAFTA voters have widely embraced a Berger feature in three years after giving All Quiet on the Western Front 14 nominations in 2023.
In second, just behind the nominations leader, was Emilia Pérez. Christmas 2024 saw Netflix deliver the latest in a seemingly infinite line of kinda cool action movies ultimately doomed to become the digital equivalent of fossils buried on the servers of the streaming giant. "Carry On" is an action thriller set in Lax, in which Taron Egerton's Tsa officer must thwart a plot to unleash a deadly nerve agent onboard a plane. In other words, it was a Christmas action movie set entirely in an airport, and was therefore inescapably indebted to "Die Hard 2."
That particular action sequel has a bit of a strange legacy, which extends beyond influencing middling Netflix movies. While the 1988 original sits atop pretty much every ranking of the "Die Hard" movies, 1990's "Die Hard 2" is surely a contender for second best. The legacy sequels discounted themselves from the conversation by turning Bruce Willis' John McClane into another generic superhero action archetype, which...

In recent months, the Spider-Man 4 rumours have gone from being fun and exciting to verging on exhausting. Villain after villain has been rumoured to appear in the movie and, as things stand, we're no closer to knowing who Peter Parker will battle.
What's become apparent is that there won't be room in this project for all of them. Spider-Man 4 is already in the somewhat awkward position of coming out between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, as Tom Holland will star in all three movies (meaning his next solo outing will surely be affected by them).
In this feature, we recap each of the characters rumoured to be in the movie, and what their involvement could mean for each respective version of filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton's Spider-Man 4. We also attempt to figure out what's really going on.

The following contains spoilers for Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, now streaming on NetflixWallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl builds off the saddest running subplot of the entire animated franchise and explores a twist that was established in previous entries of the series. Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is the first new full adventure starring the titular duo since 2008's A Matter of Loaf and Death, serving as a welcome return for the duo. The film is also notably a direct follow-up to The Wrong Trousers, bringing back characters like Feathers McGraw for a new heist attempt.
Notably, it's more than just the villain that's a returning element for the film. Vengeance Most Fowl's story and ending underscore an important element of the franchise as a whole, reinforcing a central emotional theme of the series by revisiting a sad aspect of many previous shorts. This gives Vengeance Most...

Almost two decades after their last hit feature film, the beloved claymation icons returned in Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. Created for Aardman Animations by Nick Park back in 1989, the Wallace & Gromit franchise concerns a bumbling inventor named Wallace and his silent beagle companion Gromit, who typically cause chaos with their unusual inventions. After three popular short films throughout the late '80s and 1990s, the claymation duo jumped to the big screen and found an even bigger international audience with 2005's Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
Wallace and Gromit's first jump to the big screen was a smashing success, and The Curse of the Were-Rabbit is generally recognized as one of the best stop-motion movies of all time. However, the titular duo behind the classic shorts and feature films have been largely absent, and barring a new short in 2008, haven't been seen on the big...

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is a faithful new installment to a beloved franchise, but it flips a key element that previous movies have used. Claymation maestro Nick Park and Aardman Studios have finally returned with a new Wallace & Gromit movie after nearly two decades, and it's already being celebrated with a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Vengeance Most Fowl's cast includes Ben Whitehead, taking over the role of Wallace from the late Peter Sallis, Lauren Patel, Reece Shearsmith, and more.
The new film picks up with Wallace and Gromit up to their classic activities, though Wallace is worried about paying the bills. His recent inventions haven't panned out, but his neighbors discover that his new AI, Norbot, might be of some use and pay Wallace for his services. However, Norbot ends up set in evil mode, and he uses his work opportunities to steal from Wallace's neighbors. What...

The following contains spoilers for Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, now streaming on NetflixWallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl introduces a new Aardman character that's compelling enough to carry her own spinoff. The beloved world of Wallace & Gromit has been growing since the very first animated short, with uniquely lovable riffs on archetypical characters fleshing out Wallace and Gromit's corner of England. This extends to their latest film, Vengeance Most Fowl, which brings back plenty of elements from previous adventures like the villainous Feathers McGraw.
One of the best elements of the new film is the addition of a new character to Wallace and Gromit's extended cast of characters, who fits neatly into the franchise's sweet tone. While a definite hero within the story, she's also a surprisingly good parody of a classic TV archetype, giving the film a bit more of a satirical edge than it initially appeared to.

Most fans know B.J. Novak from the NBC sitcom The Office as Ryan Howard, but he’s not just a comedian – he’s also a screenwriter and producer. With a successful career in Hollywood, one would think he’s always wanted to be in this industry from the beginning, but he had different aspirations when he was young.

His ambitious childhood dream was to be a millionaire tech entrepreneur. He grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, and at the time, he wanted to be a real-estate developer specifically. It’s been 19 years since Wallace and Gromit’s first full-length animated film, Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit, hit screens, and finally, we’re treated to their follow-up, Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. Hugely creative and hilarious, Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Foul is an animated crime caper, filled with witty dialogue and charming characters. With stunning visuals and quirky charm, the film’s incredibly detailed stop-motion animation brings Wallace and Gromit’s world to life.
The movie begins with the always positive inventor Wallace (voiced by Ben Whitehead) creating a “smart” gnome (voiced by Reece Shearsmith) named Norbot to help his old pal and best dog Gromit with his gardening. To say that Gromit is not excited about this little change would be a gross understatement. He watches in shock as the gnome speeds around, cutting the grass with a mower,...

Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, a widely acclaimed 2024 RPG, finally has a demo available for those who want to sample the game for free. Although Smt 5 was originally released on the Switch in 2021, the Vengeance redux brought the game to more platforms with added and overhauled content. As a lengthy story-based game, however, it could still be a big commitment for newcomers.
As announced by developer Atlus and showcased in a trailer available on the Official Atlus West YouTube channel, the Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance demo follows in the wake of a free Dlc update for the game that released on November 4. Progress from the demo will carry over to the full game if players decide to buy the base game and continue the story they started in the demo.
The demo allows players to choose between Vengeance's brand-new story titled "Canon of Vengeance" and the original Smt 5 story "Canon of Creation.

In a year in which two of world cinema’s oldest industries, Japan and Italy, have signed a long-awaited co-production treaty, jury members at this year’s Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) were talking up the importance of both film history and the theatrical experience on the first full day of the festival.
After praising TIFF for its selection of established and emerging Asian filmmakers, Hong Kong actor and jury president Tony Leung Chiu-wai also pointed to the festival’s in-depth programmes of classic movies observing that they play an important role in “introducing Italian directors like [Federico] Fellini and Japanese filmmakers like [Akira] Kurosawa to younger audiences.
“They are not only introducing what is current, but also the vast history of cinema, which is a wonderful opportunity for audiences to learn about the past,” the star of In The Mood For Love and Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings said.

Heading into the September 30th episode of Monday Night Raw, no storyline had become hotter than that between Braun Strowman and "Big" Bronson Reed. Rightfully so, their main event in a Last Monster Standing match was treated as one of the most eagerly anticipated TV wrestling contests in recent memory.
As heard in a recent episode of Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray, known to WWE audiences as Bubba Ray Dudley - inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a part of the Dudley Boyz, alongside D-Von - expressed the thought that the Last Monster Standing "fell a little short" of expectations.
