Your life in their hands

After the pilot, this is the opening episode of the series proper. Peter's wife Sheila is now played by Jacqueline Clarke.

After being off breakfast, Sheila thinks that Peter is ill and sends him to his local surgery, now a group practice.

At the waiting room he sits between a man with his foot in plaster and a Geordie in a flat cap (Alun Armstrong) who tells him that Peter will be waiting here for so long he could come here with a nappy rash and leave with a beard.

After negotiating with the loud buzzer to see the receptionist so he can get his appointment disc, he gets to see the doctor (Richard Wilson) who himself seems to be less than competent and suffers from a bad back.

A very nice and amusing opening episode, A Sharp Intake of Breath rolls along nicely thanks to David Jason's performance.
