- TriviaAmong the massive trove of leaked e-mails that were released in 2014 after Sony's computer systems were hacked were some that revealed that Sony executives were extremely critical of this movie's quality and pessimistic about its box-office prospects long before it was filmed or released. In one of the e-mails, Amy Pascal (then the co-chair of Sony Pictures Entertainment) wrote that many aspects of the movie's characters and plot made "no sense. I'm never starting a movie again when the script is ridiculous, and we all know it. I don't care how much I love the director or the actors. It never, not even once, ever works. As much as I want movies (to release), this is way worse. At least the marketing departments at both studios have something to sell that looks big and glossy. We have this movie in for a lot of dough, and we better look at that. Scott Rudin didn't once go to the set. Or help us in the editing room. Or fix the script."
- GoofsThe General makes reference to "Equatorial New Guinea", combining two different regions of Earth. Equatorial Guinea is on the west coast of Africa, and Papua New Guinea is just north of Australia. Papua New Guinea is just south of the equator and Equatorial Guinea is just north of the equator.

I just finished this movie. It's not the worst movie I have ever seen but there is very little explanation or character development throughout the entire thing. Is Emma Stone mentioning she's 1/4 Hawaiian multiple times throughout the movie problematic? Maybe, but more so just annoying and it felt really unnecessary to make that part of her character. She could have just appreciated Hawaiian culture. That aside, her character's lines were the cringiest. Also the whole military operation storyline could have been eliminated almost entirely and it would've been better.
Overall I'd say the movie is fast and sloppy, needed at least 30 minutes added on to have things make more sense but I didn't hate it. The ending was cute which is why I bumped it up a little but I'd go into this movie knowing you're going to get secondhand embarrassment and wonder how so many A-listers signed on.
