Likewise, watching the great Rose Byrne manage multiple emotions on her face is tantamount to listening to Yo-Yo Ma play cello. Ezra, written by Tony Spiridakis and directed by Tony Goldwyn, tells the story of a separated couple’s attempt to raise their autistic son. Max (Cannavale) is a struggling stand-up comedian; his ex, Jenna (Rose Byrne), is trying to keep it all together and not doing well. Their son, Ezra (William A. Fitzgerald), is causing disturbances at his school. Soon he’s forced to go to a specialized school with other “special” kids. Max cannot allow this; neither can his temper. It’s all for Jenna and her lawyer boyfriend (Goldwyn) to do to keep Max from beating up the whole world.

“FBI” showrunner Rick Eid is stepping down, Variety has learned.

Eid has been at the helm of the CBS procedural since it began in 2018. He will still be an executive producer on the series. Eid is also currently the showrunner of “Law & Order” at NBC and will remain in that role. Both shows hail from executive producer Dick Wolf, Wolf Entertainment, and Universal Television. Eid has also worked on Wolf Entertainment shows “Conviction,” “Chicago Pd,” “Law & Order: Trial By Jury,” “Law & Order: Svu,” “FBI: Most Wanted” and “FBI: International”

News of Eid’s exit from “FBI” comes after it was announced the show has been renewed for three more seasons. Its sister shows, “FBI: Most Wanted” and “FBI: International,” have also been renewed for new seasons. NBC previously renewed fellow Wolf Entertainment shows “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Svu.

CBS’ FBI will have a new person in charge as it heads into a massive three-season renewal.

Rick Eid, who has been showrunner on the series since for all six of its seasons to date, will step down at the end of the season. He’ll remain an executive producer of the show, which comes from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television in association with CBS Studios. A new showrunner will be named later.

Eid is also the showrunner of another Wolf Entertainment series — NBC’s Law & Order — and will remain at the helm as it heads into its 24th season.

Cannavale plays Max Bernal, a late-night comedy writer who tries and fails to parlay his success into a second act as a stand-up comic. After moving in with his father Stan (De Niro), he clashes with his ex-wife Jenna (Byrne) about parenting their young son Ezra (Fitzgerald), who is on the autism spectrum. Tensions reach a boiling point when Max kidnaps Ezra to take him on a cross-country trip, to hilarious and disastrous results.

Tony Goldwyn (“Conviction”) will direct from a script by Tony Spiridakis (“Ash Tuesday”). Spiridakis was inspired by his own son who is on the spectrum, and previously wrote the 2015 short “Inappropriate Behaviors” about an autistic teen traveling across Iowa.

The series, which Variety exclusively reported had been ordered at the streamer, is based on the Dror A. Mishani novel “The Missing File.” Wilbusch will play Avraham Avraham, an NYPD detective with the 77th precinct, whose belief in mankind is his superpower when it comes to uncovering the truth. He is left to question his own humanity when a seemingly routine investigation turns upside down.

“The Missing” is the latest American role for Wilbusch. The Israeli-German actor most recently starred in the HBO film “Oslo” and the critically-acclaimed Netflix series “Unorthodox.” He is also known for his roles in shows like AMC’s “The Little Drummer Girl” and the German-Luxembourgish series “Bad Banks.”

He is repped by Gersh and Echo Lake Entertainment.

In the untitled series, a star journalist (Swank) moves to Alaska for a fresh start after a career-killing misstep, and finds redemption personally and professionally joining a daily metro newspaper in Anchorage.

McCarthy is writing and directing the pilot in addition to serving as executive producer under his Slow Pony banner. Swank will executive produce in addition to starring. Bert Salke of Co-lab21, Melissa Wells of Slow Pony, and Kyle Hopkins and Ryan Binkley of the Anchorage Daily News will also executive produce. 20th Television is the studio.

The original film in question is the one that lends its delightful photo of Pierce Brosnan delivering a baby to this post. False Positive stars and was written by Ilana Glazer (Broad City). It sounds like a really fun, creepy time with a synopsis that reads: “After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” Cool!

Hulu’s other original offerings aren’t too inspiring this month. Only Love, Victor season 2 on June 11 moves the needle much.

Twin screenwriters Aaron and Jordan Kandell have sold an original comedy pitch to Robert Zemeckis’ production company ImageMovers. The project is in early discussions with Apple Studios as a distribution partner, sources said.

Zemeckis will develop and produce the film, titled “Mr. Lucky,” which sources compared to emotional and comedic romps like “Planes, Trains and Automobiles.”

In South Korea, where theatrical releases open on Wednesdays and Thursdays, the new films in cinemas this weekend with top ticket reservation rates, according to the Korean Film Council (Kofic), are led by Lotte Cultureworks’ Jung Woo-sung-starrer Steel Rain 2: Summit - director Yang Woo-suk’s sequel to his North-South Korea political action thriller.

The Batman director and Felicity co-creator Matt Reeves has signed an exclusive, multi-year overall deal with Warner Bros. The rich pact had quietly closed months ago, and is now being confirmed.

Under the overall agreement, Reeves will develop new television programming for all platforms via his 6th & Idaho production company: streaming services, including HBO Max; broadcast, premium and basic cable networks. The projects will be produced in association with Warner Bros. Television, Warner Horizon Scripted Television, Warner Bros. Animation or Blue Ribbon Content, depending on the platform. Beyond the U.S., Warner Bros. International Television Distribution will distribute 6th & Idaho’s shows to the global marketplace.

Under the deal, 6th & Idaho has tapped veteran television/film producer and executive Daniel Pipski as EVP and Head of Television. Pipski, who has been at 6th & Idaho since February, is working alongside EVP Adam Kassan and VP Rafi Crohn.

It boasts one of the fastest-growing TV industries on the planet, but that hasn’t cleared up misconceptions when it comes to Central and Eastern Europe. “I would like to kill some stereotypes about the region,” said Kamila Zlatušková, founder of the Serial Killer TV Festival in Brno, Czech Republic, during a showcase of regional series at the Berlinale Series Market on Tuesday.

Zlatušková said that her travels around TV festivals and markets in recent years had led her to believe that she was living in “an invisible region. There were no panels, no topics from Central and Eastern European drama.”

After years of working in the industry, including at a regional pubcaster, Zlatušková launched the Serial Killer TV Festival to change that. The week-long event, which this year takes place from Sept. 22-27, offers a platform for rising talents and hot new series to get exposure to industry players from across the globe.

Charades, the sales firm launched three years ago by former execs at Wild Bunch, Gaumont and Studiocanal, will roll into the Berlinale’s European Film Market with a raft of pre-sales on anticipated French projects, including “The Rosemaker” with Catherine Frot and Laurent Tirard’s “The Speech.”

Charades will unveil the promos of both films, as well as “Madeleine Collins,” Antoine Barraud’s psychological drama headlined by Virginie Efira, and will be hosting the market premieres of Sebastien Demoustier’s “The Girl With a Bracelet” which is generating strong box office returns in France, where it opened last week, and Bruno Merle’s “Felicita.”

A psychological drama, starring Chiara Mastroianni and Roschdy Zem, “The Girl With a Bracelet,” has already attracted 100,000 admissions in five days. The film follows a 16-year-old who stands trial for the murder of her best friend and begins to confess to a secret life that she kept from her parents.

HBO is out with its list of everything new coming to HBO in January, and everything leaving.

Highlights include “The New Pope,” out Jan. 13. Starring Jude Law, it’s a continuation of the 2016 series “The Young Pope.”

There’s also “The Outsider,” out Jan. 12. Based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel, it stars Jason Bateman, Cynthia Erivo and Ben Mendelsohn.

“Avenue 5,” about a luxury space-traveling company, is out Jan. 19, along with season 10 of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Mad About You aired on NBC from 1992-99 and won multiple Emmys.

The Mad About You revival is produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with Comedy Dynamics. Peter Tolan serves as showrunner, executive producer and writer. Hunt and Reiser executive produce alongside Brian Volk-Weiss, Michael Pelmont and Matthew Ochacher.

While I enjoyed the first season of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, it seems there are a lot of people that don’t like the show. I guess I can see why some people don’t like it, but I personally just really like how these two characters have been handled in the show. It’s solid character development.

It’s all good, though, the show isn’t for everybody, but for those of you who have been enjoying it, Freeform has released a full trailer for you to watch! It shows us that Tyrone and Tandy will be teaming up to save the world. This one specifically deals with sex trafficking. Then there’s the anti-hero Mayhem who doesn’t have any problems killing people to save others.

I’m a fan of the first season of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger and I’m looking forward to seeing how the story of these two characters continues in the upcoming second season. If you haven’t watched Season 1 yet, you should check it out, I think most of you might dig it.

In the run-up to the UniFrance Rendez-Vous in Paris, the rising sales company Charades has added three French films to its slate, “My Traitor, My Love,” a war romance-drama; “Lost And Found,” a romantic comedy; and “The Girl With a Bracelet,” a family drama.

Directed by Helier Cisterne (“Vandal”), “My Traitor, My Love” (pictured) opens in 1956 in Algeria, at a time when it was a French colony. The film stars hot French actor Vincent Lacoste (“Amanda”) and Vicky Krieps (“Phantom Thread”) as Fernand and Helene, a young couple madly in love whose destiny will be irrevocably changed by the outbreak of the Algerian War of Independence. Fernand is an activist figting for independence alongside the Algerians. The film was penned by Katell Quillévéré (“Heal the Living”) and Cisterne whose feature debut “Vandal” won the Louis Delluc Prize in 2013.

Stana Katic’s dark crime series, Absentia, will return to Amazon Prime Video for Season 2.

Absentia Season 2 is set to bring another 10-episode run of moody criminal intrigue to Amazon Prime Video in the U.S.

The globally distributed series – a production of Axn will play Cal Isaac, a rough ex-Navy Seal, whose own battles with personal demons leads to the creation of a bond with the traumatized Emily (Katic).

Natasha Little (The Night Manager) will play Special Agent Julianne Gunnarsen, an attractive and enigmatic FBI profiler from the Boston Field Office who arrives in town after a deadly terrorist attack.

Also joining Stana Katic in the Absentia Season 2 cast are returnees Patrick Heusinger as Nick Durand, Neil Jackson as Jack Byrne, Cara Theobold as Alice Durand, Paul Freeman as Warren Byrne and Patrick McAuley as Flynn Duran.
