New Delhi, March 6 (Ians) Rajkummar Rao has time and again proved that he is one of the best actors in Hindi cinema. Be it his performance as the strong-willed lawyer in Shahid, a dreaded terrorist in Omerta, a gullible boy in Stree or the naive Pritam in Bareilly Ki Barfi, the actor has raised his bar with every new role.

"The journey has been pretty overwhelming. I never expected this to happen. I always wanted to work of course and that's why I invested so much time on training and came to the city with no background or backbone, and with very little money. From there to here it is still like a dream to me, but I don't sit back and think about it," Rajkummar told Ians.

Mumbai, Feb 25: Varun Sharma calls his next release Roohi the crazier sister of the 2018 Rajkummar Rao starrer Stree.

After Stree released in 2018, there has been a slew of horror comedies including Laxmii, and upcoming projects as Phone Bhoot, Bhoot Police, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, besides Roohi. Varun Sharma, however, is not scared of the competition.

"There is no fear as such. It is a new genre that got explored widely through Stree and we feel that Roohi is Stree's much crazier sister and the genre is widely accepted and people got exposed to and they liked it and I feel a lot of other films also. Whichever content is liked by people at the end of the day is (going to be made)," said Varun Sharma.

He added, "We really hope that the audience really enjoys (Roohi) as much as we enjoyed making the film. I mean there is nothing to fear about.

New Delhi, Feb 23: Bollywood horror is evolving beyond simple tales of ghosts, haunted houses and possession stories. Film makers are learning to give a spin to the tale. New sub-genres are being created blending horror with comedy, romance, mythology and more.

Horror comedies, Horror films with social message, and mythological twist to supernatural lore are all plot ideas that fall under the broader genre of horror.

What's more, A-list stars are joining the horror bandwagin. For long, the genre was all about B and C-list actors, given the low production costs. The scene briefly changed when Ram Gopal Varma made Bhoot, casting Ajay Devgn, Urmila Matondkar, Fardeen Khan and Rekha in the film. However, that was a one-off case. The horror genre has mostly been about modest cast.

Moving away from regular horror, Bollywood is lately warming up to the idea of serving scares with a spot of humour. The horror comedy as a genre is suddenly in vogue among mainstream Hindi filmmakers.

The genre existed in the Hindi film industry for ages -- the old classic "Bhoot Bangla" and recent releases such as "Bhul Bhulaiyaa", "Bhootnath", "Go Goa Gone" and "Stree" come to mind. These films, however, were one-off cases. What is happening now is that Bollywood filmmakers have suddenly taken interest in the genre of horror comedy in a way that it seems like the genre is here to stay. Importantly, the new crop of films serve the funny scares with a new-age spin and a message.

We look at a few horror comedy films that are all set to hit the screens.

Mumbai, Nov 9 (Ians) After lockdown, actress Katrina Kaif is making the most of her work trip to Maldives, going by pictures of her day out at the beach that she has posted on social media.

The actress took to Instagram and shared pictures of herself from the shores of Maldives.

Mumbai, Nov 6 (Ians) Bollywood actor Siddhant Chaturvedi took out time from his hectic shooting schedule in Goa to go surfing, and posted snapshots of his experience on Instagram.

In the first picture, Siddhant holds a surfing board, raring to go. In the second image, he surfs on the ocean waters, and in the third photograph, he flaunts washboard abs holding on to the surfboard.

He wrote this little poem as caption:

"You're the Tides, they say you belong to the sea...

Bollywood actor Siddhant Chaturvedi, who is currently in Goa to shoot for director Shakun Batra's untitled next film, has shared a picture of him doing a cartwheel.

Siddhant took to his Instagram Stories, where he posted the picture. In the image, he could be seen dressed in a bright printed shirt and black shorts. He is seen attempting a cartwheel.

He captioned the image: "Back to #Tricking #Kicking and #Parkour".

Batra's film also stars Deepika Padukone and Ananya Panday. Deepika had to recently cut short her Goa schedule and join the Ncb probe in Mumbai into a possible drugs angle in the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

The details of Batra's project are still under wraps, although Siddhant had told Ians in a recent interview that the film belonged to a genre that has not been tried in Bollywood before.

Siddhant has an interesting slate of work lined up.

Ishaan Khatter is all set to try his skills at comedy with Phone Bhoot, and the young actor is excited.

"Of course I am terribly excited, and also very enthusiastic to share screen space with Siddhant (Chaturvedi) who is a friend of mine," Ishaan told Ians, adding that the script "was something that really convinced me to do it".

"Phone Bhoot" is a horror comedy co-starring Katrina Kaif and Sidhant Chaturvedi, and Ishaan describes it as a laugh riot.

"It is a laugh riot. Horror comedies have been done before but this is an exceptionally funny film. It's very meta in its humor, it's a film that doesn't go from gag to gag. It has a funny and interesting story but it's also just hysterical throughout," he claimed.

"For me, this is my first in the comedy genre and I am very excited because it is so different from everything I have done before.

Ishaan made his acting debut with Iranian film director Majidi Majid's film "Beyond The Clouds". His Bollywood debut was "Dhadak", the Hindi remake of the popular Marathi film "Sairat". Recently, he shared screen space with Tabu in Mira Nair's BBC miniseries "A Suitable Boy", based on Vikram Seth's acclaimed novel of the same name.

"I don't know how I see myself evolve, I just try to evolve. My aspiration with every character is to be able to give myself over to it completely, so that I can immerse myself in that world, to be able to do justice to that character," Ishaan told Ians.
