Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” was a poster child for the power of inclusion when it broke box office records in 2023, but the $1.45 billion-grossing movie is only the 119th most inclusive film made in the past five years, according to the Inclusion List.
The annual list — presented by Dr. Stacy L. Smith and the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, in collaboration with the Adobe Foundation — is a data-driven ranking that identified the 150 most inclusive films from 2019 to 2023 and ranks a single year’s films across gender, race/ethnicity, LGBTQ+, disability and age representation.
“Our goal with the Inclusion List is to celebrate those who are showcasing and working with exceptional talent from all backgrounds,” stated Dr. Smith in a press release announcing the researchers’ findings. “In the second year of its release, the newest iteration of the Inclusion List spotlights films, filmmakers, and distributors who clearly demonstrate that inclusion...

In the "Harry Potter" movies, the binary of "good" and "evil" is illustrated pretty well by Harry himself — played by Daniel Radcliffe — and his lifelong enemy Lord Voldemort. Still, Harry has plenty of minor villains to deal with along the way, and one is his schoolboy nemesis Draco Malfoy, portrayed throughout the franchise's eight movies by Tom Felton. So would Felton and Radcliffe work together again? According to Felton, they've chatted about it a bit, but there would be a bit of a twist if the two ever teamed up for a different project.
In an interview with Digital Spy in May of 2022, Felton was asked about any possible reunions with any of his "Harry Potter" co-stars, and he said he'd leap at the chance to work alongside Radcliffe in particular. "We all talk about doing something again in all different ways," Felton told the outlet. "Daniel and I have...

Baldur's Gate 3 has six companions who can also be played as the main character, as well as two custom origins. One custom origin is a completely blank slate, whilst the other - The Dark Urge, is mostly customizable with some fixed links to the overarching story. The majority of players will be inclined to choose a custom origin, but they're really missing out by never giving the pre-made origin characters a chance.
For a first-time player, a custom avatar may be preferred to get an understanding of the characters before playing them. The main drawback to playing as one of the companion characters is missing out on the majority of their spoken dialogue and the fantastic performances of their voice actors. Though now that it's been over a year since release, players looking to experience the game from a different angle should really consider a different protagonist.

Behind every great man, as the old, outdated expression goes, there’s a great woman — and there’s a pretty decent chance she’s been played by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor.
The 55-year-old actress has built a long, inspiring career out of portraying characters who linger just off center stage: the long-suffering wife of Cuba Gooding Jr.’s Navy Seal in 2000’s Men of Honor; Ray Charles’ mistress in Jamie Foxx’s 2004 biopic Ray; Yusef Salaam’s mother in 2019’s When They See Us (her first Emmy nomination); and Venus and Serena Williams’ mom in the 2021 Will Smith film about their dad, King Richard (her first Oscar nom).
“If we only know the figurehead and we don’t know the women who were doing the groundwork, it’s not the full truth,” she tells THR. “We’d be telling a half story.”

Baldur's Gate 3 is known for its fantastic storyline and allowing its players the freedom to progress through many different ways. It has been praised time and time again for its almost infinite replayability, and it's highly unlikely that any player has truly discovered all the secrets the game has to offer. It truly encapsulates the spirit of Dungeons & Dragons, with no playthrough being truly the same.
This freedom of choice allows players to follow a more "evil" path if they desire. Making these choices can have a great impact on the story, and causes players to miss out on a lot. However, there are quite a few benefits to going down this path as well.

Set in Dungeons & Dragons' Faerûn, Baldur's Gate 3 includes lots of content based off of the original tabletop game. With its massive popularity reaching far beyond those unfamiliar with pen and paper roleplaying games, it was many people's first experience with the D&d world and gaming system, just in a video game format. It may just be the closest thing to emulating a proper, planned-out campaign.
Baldur's Gate 3 has been praised for its customization options, and how well Larian translated D&d classes and races into the game. Among the playable races is the Githyanki, a lesser utilized choice in other Dungeons & Dragons-based media despite their connections to mind flayers and allyship with red dragons, both creatures being some of the most iconic to the franchise. However, in the release of Baldur's Gate 3, the Githyanki were given a chance to finally shine.

As an actor, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor has never regarded the camera as her ally.
“I’ve always felt like it was an enemy, because it feels intrusive,” says Ellis-Taylor, folding her legs under her on the couch in a West Hollywood hotel as she discusses her latest role in “Nickel Boys.”
Movie sets are like construction sites, where filmmakers build a world out of nothing. There, in the middle of all that hammering and people rigging lights, “actors are asked to transform and have a human experience with a big-ass piece of machinery that is a foot away from you,” she says. “And then you’re not supposed to look at it.”

While Will Smith leads the King Richard cast in his Oscar-winning role, there is a terrific ensemble working together to bring this true sports story to the big screen. Venus and Serena Williams’ names are iconic in the world of sports, but King Richard offers a slight twist in that it’s actually more about their father, Richard Williams, a tennis coach who tries to put his daughters’ talents on the world stage. While he is a complex and intriguing character, King Richard benefits from the entire cast.
Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green from a screenplay by Zach Baylin, King Richard goes behind the scenes of Venus and Serena’s life under the guidance of their father. King Richard has a sprawling cast of veteran actors and younger actors who get to flex their talents in front of a wider audience. The film is based on real-life people, and here...

The Life Of Chuck, based on Stephen King’s novel and directed by Mike Flanagan, is confirmed for a 2025 release.
Coming out of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, there was a feeling that Mike Flanagan’s upcoming adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Life Of Chuck could be an awards contender. Not only is this year’s race for Best Picture said to be one of the most open we’ve had for years, but The Life Of Chuck would win TIFF’s coveted People’s Choice Award, historically a strong indicator that a film would go on to earn a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards. Twelve of the last 14 winners have gone on to do so.
The film’s US distributor Neon, however, has instead elected to give the film a May 2025 release slot according to Deadline. Not only does that preclude the film...

“Origin” has taught Ava DuVernay an important lesson: to have distribution better suited to help her films find audiences. Speaking at the Marrakech International Film Festival, the filmmaker said her 2023 film is a “complicated” one for her. “It represents a big challenge and it’s part of a big lesson I’ve received as a filmmaker,” she said. “Ed Zwick, the director, said that a film’s success is not judged by the box office and reviews but by time, and I hope that time will be kind to this film.”

Ava DuVernay has slammed Donald Trump’s re-election as U.S. president, in spite of a criminal charges against him, saying that black people arrested on smaller crimes land years of jail time.
She was speaking in a conversation event at the Marrakech film festival, moderated by Rosalie Varda, daughter of late iconic filmmaker Agnès Varda, who is friend of the Selma, 13th and A Wrinkle in Time director and producer.
The subject of Trump’s re-election arose in a discussion on DuVernay’s Netflix-backed 2016 documentary 13th, exploring racial injustice in the U.S. penal system, and the fact its prisons are disproportionately filled with African-Americans.
“The idea of mass incarceration of criminality, and how black and brown people in certain parts of the world are considered inherently criminal, that’s what it is about. It’s more about the idea of why do we believe some people have...

A new Batman release has provided an explanation for why Gotham is overrun by so many DC Universe villains, and I have to admit it makes a lot of sense. The second season of Batman Unburied - Spotify's excellent DC audio drama - entitled Fallen City, is structured around the origin of Havey Dent's Two-Face, and sees a cabal of iconic Batman villains making their way into the spotlight. Details of this shady group of terrifying foes provide an excellent justification for the crime-ridden nature of the city.

5-Star Raids featuring Legendaries are some of the most challenging bosses Pokmon Go players can expect to face, and Origin Forme Dialga and Origin Forme Palkia are no exception. The special forms of Dialga and Palkia are native to the Hisui region, Sinnoh's original name, and these versions are just as powerful if not more so. In addition, the Origin versions have access to strong exclusive movies too. Just like with any other mighty foes in the latest Raid schedule for Pokmon Go, you'll need the right selection of fine-tuned counters to win.
Both Origin Palkia and Origin Dialga have weaknesses just like their base versions do, so there is plenty of room for strategy for both you and any other player you might want to partner up with. Each Legendary's dual typing gives them a broad moveset, however, so you need to be sure you don't pick a counter...

It is fitting that for the 30th year of the Geneva International Film Festival, artistic director Anais Emery and her team are going back to the future.
“It was very important to recall the history of the festival but not through a retrospective,” says Emery of the event that takes place in the Swiss city from November 1-10.
”We wanted to renew, to celebrate and underline Giff’s speciality and specificity.”
That means showcasing innovative storytelling delivered via the myriad audiovisual mediums available to creators, from film, TV and web content to installations, virtual reality and extended reality (Xr) works.

Stephen Cognetti has written and directed every entry in the Hell House LLC found footage horror franchise, which began in 2015 and currently consists of Hell House LLC, Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel, Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire, and the recently released Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting last year, Cognetti said that while he wants to make more Hell House movies, he’s hoping to secure higher budgets and move away about from the found footage style for future installments… But now that a new entry in the Hell House franchise, Hell House LLC: Lineage, has started filming, Cognetti has said that this one might be the final chapter for this series.
Cognetti posted on X, “Here we go! Day one of what will likely be the last but also the scariest Hell House!“

Mexico’s official entry to the Oscars, “Sujo,” made a sweep of the 22nd Morelia Int’l Film Festival (Ficm), winning the festival’s Ojo Awards for Best Film, Director and Screenplay.
Co-helmer-scribes Astrid Rondero and Fernanda Valadez, whose debut pic “Identifying Features” won a couple of Sundance awards and took the Best International Feature prize at the Gotham Awards in 2021, also snagged the Sundance Grand Jury Prize for World Cinema with “Sujo,” their sophomore feature, in January.
Hailed by Variety as an “optimistic alternative to violent drug war movies,” the poignant coming-of-age story revolves around the impact of drug cartels on the youth. The tale follows young Sujo (played by Kevin Uriel Aguilar Luna and Juan Jesús Varela) who grows up surrounded by their violence. When his father, a sicario (hired assassin), is killed, he becomes a target but Sujo’s intrepid aunt rescues him.

It’s important for movies to ask serious questions. Brian Netto and Adam Schindler’s new Netflix thriller “Don’t Move” asks a very, very big one: What if a scene that would only be a couple minutes long in any other movie was the whole damn movie?
“Don’t Move” makes a decent attempt to address themes of mortality and depression but more than anything it’s a formal filmmaking exercise. In a nutshell, the film stars Kelsey Asbille (“Yellowstone”) as Iris, a mother mourning the accidental death of her son. At the start of the film she nearly takes her own life on a hiking trail. She’s interrupted by Richard, played by Finn Wittrock (“Origin”), who snaps her out of it and helps her remember that “Broken doesn’t have to mean hopeless.”
Then, right when Iris has finally rediscovered her will to live, Richard tases her, ties her up,...

Exclusive: Academy Award nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (King Richard) and Rachelle Lefevre (Twilight franchise) have wrapped on Liz Here Now, a new indie drama from director Sterling Macer Jr.
Shot in Lexington, Ky, the film is based on the novel of the same name by Todd Connor. The story follows Liz Baxter (Ellis-Taylor), who works as a nanny for a prominent, white family in Oakland, California during the rise of the Black Panther Party in 1967. When Liz discovers that the Connor children are suffering under the hand of their mother, Jane (Lefevre), and attempts to step in to protect the children, she’s accused of participating in a Black Panther conspiracy.
In a statement on the project, Macer Jr. told Deadline, “Our approach to Liz Here Now is a kind of deconstruction of the black maid’s story, and to a degree, bends the genre of the civil rights era domestic drama,...

Baldur's Gate 3 party member Wyll has suffered from one behavioral bug that's stuck around for a while now, but it turns out that the fix is actually incredibly simple. For the most part, Wyll is one of the nicest Origin characters in the game, with a consistent penchant for doing good that not everyone happens to share. He's still capable of being rude, however, and a bug that affected the way he greets the player character has been making him seem especially standoffish.
As discovered by Tumblr user autistichalsin and shared by bongcommunism on Reddit, the entire problem with Wyll's negative greetings stems from one line of code. The trigger for Wyll to start conversations with "You've got something to say?", which is only supposed to happen with a negative approval rating, is missing an "=false", making him say it in every scenario.

A brand-new month means a brand-new Raid Boss schedule to look forward to in Pokmon Go, and during October 2024, things are getting spooky with the return of Origin Forme Giratina and Darkrai in 5-Star Raids Battles. Trainers will also be able to encounter Shiny Zamzaenta for the very first time, so it's a great month for Shiny Legendary Pokmon hunters.
Aside from the Legendary 5-Star Raid Bosses, there will be four Mega Raid Bosses to battle throughout the month, as well as several new Max Raid Bosses including the Galar-region starter trio: Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. Ryan Murphys Grotesquerie reunites him with some of his previous collaborators, and its also the first major acting role of a very popular football player. Ryan Murphy continues his work in the horror genre outside of American Horror Story and Monster with Grotesquerie, though this project quickly drew comparisons to American Horror Story in terms of its tone and way of approaching horror. However, Grotesquerie aims to take horror a bit further than previous Murphy projects have done, and for that, it brings old and new talents into the Murphyverse.
Grotesquerie follows Detective Lois Tryon, who is investigating a series of horrible crimes in a small community. The case turns out to be a lot more complex than Tryon thought, so she enlists the help of Sister Megan, a nun and Catholic Guardian journalist. To make it all more complicated for Tryon, she has problems with her family, while Sister...

Spoilers for "Transformers One" follow.
The ultimate villain of "Transformers One" winds up being, of course, Megatron (voiced by Brian Tyree Henry). Initially a harmless miner named D-16, the future Megatron's belligerence sparks a schism with his best friend, Orion Pax (Chris Hemsworth). By the film's ending, Orion has ascended to become Optimus Prime, while Megatron is on track to become his infamous Decepticon warlord self.
Since "Transformers One" is about Megatron's fall from decent bot to tyrant, most of the film features a different villain. This antagonist is the catalyst for both Optimus Prime and Megatron's rise. Who is it? Sentinel Prime (Jon Hamm), ruler of planet Cybertron and a great big fraud!
Sentinel plays the part of a benevolent leader making tough decisions for an energy-starved society, who nonetheless finds time to give his people bread and circuses. But he sits at the head of a fierce caste...

Wolverines past was shrouded in mystery until the Origin miniseries finally revealed his childhood origins, but what many fans may not realize is that much of that tragic backstory was inspired by the authors real-life childhood. Released in 2001, the miniseries attracted a lot of attention at the time due to Logans backstory being told after years of buildup, but the true power of the story comes from a very real place.
Origin writer Paul Jenkins explains how he came up with the story at the Dragon Con 2024 panel Wolverine: 50-Year Anniversary, pulling a lot of the drama from his own upbringing: What many people dont know is that a lot of my childhood and the way that I was raised was in (Origin).
Written by Paul Jenkins with art by Andy Kubert, Origin revealed that Logan was born James Howlett in the late nineteenth century, the sickly heir to a vast estate in Canada.

The 51st edition of the Telluride Film Festival concluded on Labor Day, with three standout films generating significant Oscar buzz: Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winner “Anora,” Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language musical “Emilia Pérez,” and Jason Reitman’s dark comedy “Saturday Night.”
Distributed by Sony Pictures, “Saturday Night” marks Reitman’s return to both directing and screenwriting, collaborating with co-writer Gil Kenan. While the film takes a high-tension look at the 90 minutes leading up to the first episode of the iconic sketch show “Saturday Night Live,” it has received mixed reactions from critics. Nickel Boys, RaMell Ross’ big screen interpretation of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book The Nickel Boys, had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival’s Herzog Theatre on Friday night. After airing on Rte in Ireland last September, all six episodes of the darkly comedic crime drama Obituary made their way over to the Hulu streaming service in November. Now, Variety reports that Obituary season 2 has been given the greenlight and, like its predecessor, is expected to consist of six episodes.
Written by Ray Lawlor (Le Ceangal) and directed by John Hayes (Dublin Murders) and Oonagh Kearney (Vardy vs. Rooney), Obituary has the following synopsis: 24-year-old Elvira Clancy is feeling a little unfulfilled, although she adores her new job writing obituaries, but when her newspaper falls on hard times and her boss cuts her salary, she finds herself being paid per obituary overnight. When she “accidentally” kills a nasty piece of work in the town, she discovers she might have a previously untapped bloodlust!
She relishes using ever more crafty methods to kill off the town’s unpleasant residents while making them look like accidents.

Surprisingly, only 15% of players choose the Dark Urge Origin in Baldur's Gate 3. Misunderstandings about the character may lead to fear of being locked into an evil playthrough. The Dark Urge offers the flexibility of a custom character with the depth of an Origin, making for unique playthroughs.

As a filmmaker, Lee Daniels tends to get slagged off on for being flamboyantly garish and over-the-top. Some of that is deserved, but the truth is that when he’s cooking on all cylinders Daniels is a gifted filmmaker. “The Deliverance” is the sixth feature he has directed, and I’ve been a fan of three of them: “Precious” (2009), his extraordinary tale of a stunted inner-city teenager’s escape from her domestic hell; “The Paperboy” (2012), a bold and unnerving Southern gothic noir; and “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” (2021), a musical-political biopic that, while flawed, did a superb job of channeling its subject’s complicated ferocity.
So when I say that “The Deliverance,” a demonic-possession movie that Daniels made for Netflix, is one of his kitschy-extreme schlock extravaganzas, I’m not saying that he’s always like that. But sometimes he is. And “The Deliverance” is not without its socially provocative Daniels undercurrents.

Chris Sanders' and Dean De Blois' 2002 animated film "Lilo & Stitch" was released by Disney and was part of what might be considered a "low" period in the studio's history. Disney had a series of bangers in the 1990s, a period often referred to as the Disney Renaissance. That period came to an end in 2000 with the release of "Dinosaur," however, a technology experiment featuring life-like dinosaurs realized in CGI. That was followed by multiple expensive bombs, one right after the other, and almost all the films (from "Fantasia 2000" in 2000 through to "Bolt" in 2008) were costly misfires.
Only two from the period stand out. Mark Dindal's slapstick comedy "The Emperor's New Groove" and "Lilo & Stitch." The latter is deeply beloved by the children who saw it in 2002, and appreciate both its warmth and its weirdo edge.

Aside from Logan (Hugh Jackman) himself, "Deadpool & Wolverine" looks to be bringing back many mutant characters from 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" films. Among them is Sabretooth/Victor Creed, Wolverine's nemesis, played once more by Tyler Mane as in the 2000 "X-Men" movie. These two are eternal rivals, but why?
Chronologically, the last we saw of Sabretooth was Cyclops (James Marsden) blasting him off the Statue of Liberty. Production-wise, Creed appeared in the 2009 prequel "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" (played by Liev Schreiber instead of Mane). The movie looked to fill in the (many) gaps in Logan's backstory, such as why he and Sabretooth had a blood feud.
The movie mashes up three comic stories: 1989's "Wolverine" Volume 2 issue #10 (where it's revealed Sabretooth murdered Logan's lover Silver Fox), Barry Windsor-Smith's 1991 "Weapon X" (which revealed how Wolverine got his adamantium skeleton and claws), and Paul Jenkins and Andy Kubert's 2001 "Origin" (which revealed...

Over the course of her time on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Stephanie March’s Assistant District Attorney Alexandra “Alex” Cabot became a fan-favorite character.
The Ada had a main role in the long-running series for seasons two through five, as well as 11. (She returned in a recurring role in seasons six, 10, 13 and 19.) In the season 11 finale, “Witness,” she tries a case that convinces her she needs to leave her job in New York City to help women and girls who are being sexually exploited in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“I remember it very clearly, and it was kind of stuck in my head at the time,” she told People. “So I have to believe that to some degree, everything happens for a reason. That’s part of the reason I was so interested in the Panzi Foundation.”
