Screen International has unveiled the shortlist for the second edition of the Global Production Awards which celebrates outstanding and sustainable work in the world of film and TV production, locations and studios.

The awards recognise organisations and companies working in the film and TV industry including studios, production companies, film commissions, location, suppliers and manufacturers and any services involved in film and TV production.

Among the companies shortlisted are Universal, Warner Bros, Fremantle, BBC and Sky.

The band will spend the bulk of the summer touring the U.K. and Europe, with a few festival sets in Montreal and Quebec, Canada scheduled for July. Their six-city North American tour kicks off Oct. 17 at the Filmore in Philadelphia, and includes stops in Boston, New York City, Washington D.C., and Toronto before wrapping Oct. 26 at the Vic Theatre in Chicago.

Chance the Rapper has added concerts in Brooklyn and Los Angeles to his celebration of the 10-year anniversary of his breakout mixtape, Acid Rap.

May 1 marks the series debut of “White House Plumbers,” the new limited series from “Veep” showrunner David Mandel that chronicles the Watergate break-in and fallout. That show airs on HBO and will stream on HBO Max. Then on May 4, the comedy “The Other Two” returns for its third season on HBO Max.

The sixth season of the animated series “Rick and Morty” will be available to stream on HBO Max starting on May 11, and in terms of library titles the “Men in Black” trilogy, the comedies “Step Brothers” and “Some Like It Hot” and Jonah Hill’s directorial debut “Mid90s” all come to HBO and HBO Max this month.

Wait a minute, you might be asking, isn’t HBO Max supposed to be “Max” now? How then, am I seeing a list of HBO Max new releases for May 2023? Well spotted, dear reader. Warner Bros. Discovery did indeed recently reveal that it would be rebranding its combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service as just Max. As the company notes in its press release for May though, that change doesn’t take effect until May 23. What follows is a list of everything coming to HBO Max through May 22.

The biggest releases this month are two TV series that arrive at the beginning of May. White House Plumbers is a comedic take on the infamous Watergate scandal starring Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux. That will be followed by season 3 of The Other Two, which I personally consider the funniest show on television. Catch up now before it’s too late!

HBO Max will officially be replaced by Warner Bros. Discovery on May 23 with a new and improved service called Max. However, that doesn’t mean the service is scrimping on content until then. One of the biggest new releases of the month is the new limited series “White House Plumbers,” which will premiere on May 1. Starring Woody Harrelson as E. Howard Hunt and Justin Theroux as G. Gordon Liddy, the pair portray two real-life Watergate burglars and Nixon saboteurs who ended up destroying the very president they desperately wanted to serve.

Kvelertak have announced their fifth studio album Endling, out September 8th, and shared the lead single “Krøterveg Te Helvete.”

The Norwegian heavy rockers have made their name with a classic-rock infused take on extreme metal, and “Krøterveg Te Helvete” should satiate longtime fans with its breakneck speed and visceral hooks. The track manages to equally evoke Refused-esque hardcore and the black metal of Kvelertak’s homeland.

“‘Krøterveg Te Helvete’ is a celebration of the intolerable levels of hardships of being in a popular rock band in 2023,” the band remarked in a press release.

Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired North American rights to the horror movie Play or Die, directed by Jacques Kluger. The film stars Charley Palmer (Dunkirk), Roxane Mesquida (“Now Apocalypse”), Marie Zabukovec (Interrail), Thomas Mustin (Raw), and Igor Van Dessel (Racer And The Jailbird).

Writer/director Larry Brand died suddenly on Feb. 9 at his home in Hollywood. He was 69.

Brand’s first job in the film industry was as a driver and production assistant for Orson Welles. Following his debut feature film, psychological thriller “Backfire” (co-written with frequent collaborator Rebecca Reynolds), he went on to write, direct, and co-star in “The Drifter,” “Masque of the Red Death” and “Overexposed” for indie producer Roger Corman.

Over the past two-and-a-half decades, his films as writer and/or director, ranging in budget from 15,000 to $15 million, have included award-winning indies “Paranoia” (1998) and “Christina” (2010), and studio productions “Hard Luck” and “Halloween: Resurrection”.

“Resurrection” went on to become the second-most-profitable sequel in the franchise’s history.

In 2008 Brand formed 8180 Films with partners Reynolds (with whom he co-produced HBO’s “Assume the Position With Mr. Wuhl”) and James Carpenter. Their first feature, “Christina,” went on to win awards at film fests,...

Liam Hemsworth and Vince Vaughn have joined Clark Duke’s feature directorial debut “Arkansas,” which Duke wrote and will also star in, Vmi Worldwide President Andre Reis announced Thursday.

“Arkansas” follows a pair of drug runners in the Dixie Mafia, whose lives get turned upside down when a drug deal goes horribly wrong.

“Arkansas” is produced by Patrick Hibler, Jeff Rice, Martin Sprock and Storyboard Media. Media Finance Capital’s David Gilbery and Charles Dorfman funded the film and will also serve as executive producers alongside Hercules Film Fund. Tfl announce 20 new projects for 2018 ScriptLab, with a strong focus on genre movies.

The TorinoFilmLab (Tfl) has announced the 20 new projects selected for the 2018 ScriptLab. 50% of this year’s projects have female directors (ten will be directed by women, nine by men, and one co-directed by a man and a woman).

The ScriptLab is a nine-month scriptwriting programme hosted by the TorinoFilmLab, involving a number of feature films at an early stage of development. Composed of two week-long residential workshops, one in Greece (March) and one in France (June), the ScriptLab also feeds in to TorinoFilmLab annual industry event the Tfl Meeting (this year running on the 23-24 November, as usual in parallel to the Torino Film Festival).

Sometimes a film will speak directly to a person in an audience: A preternatural, unearthly tendril of luminous light tapping you on the shoulder, a benevolent yet mysterious voice reminding you of an obligation, or a musical, colorful Dream Message entering your eyes and speaking to your soul with wonder, awe and truth. Like other Art forms, film can do amazing things.

For me, there are definitely a few choice films of overwhelming, pristine power. Yet one cinematic work is not just great, deeply special to me: ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind.’ Directed by the Wonderkind, Steven Spielberg, directly after his landmark suspense-adventure film, ‘Jaws’.
