Pictures’ DC movies were added to Netflix in waves starting December 2023. This is part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s strategy to license more titles to third-party services like Netflix.

Consequently, 2023 marked the first time HBO titles were available on Netflix, with plans for more throughout the year, but the contract was short-term in nature over a period of 3-5 months, and now by the end of March, most DC superhero movies that remain on the platform will be removed. "Fantastic Four," created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, was more or less a family sitcom except the three family members and their best friend all happened to have superpowers. It was light and comedic, while also featuring bloviating, demonstrative supervillains who shouted regularly about the glories of world domination. It was a comic book series that declared itself to be The World's Greatest Comics Magazine! 

Story's feature film adaptations were not very well received when they were released. 2005's "Fantastic Four" only bears a 28% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while its sequel, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," only has a 38% approval rating. The Spy Kids franchise featured a number of notable cameos from established actors and directors, including Richard Linklater, Glen Powell, and Selena Gomez. Despite their destiny being hidden from them for most of their childhood, Juni and Carmen eventually take on the career path that their entire extended family — parents, aunts and uncles, and grandparents — has taken part in throughout their lives.

Carmen and Juni Cortez, the original Spy Kids, have grown up and are no longer the central duo of the franchise. In Spy Kids 4, Carmen and Juni become estranged but ultimately reconcile and announce their plan to revive the Spy Kids program together. Carmen and Juni do not appear in Spy Kids: Armageddon, as the creator wanted to start fresh with a new generation of remarkable kids, but future installments could include members of the legacy cast.

Love is in the air on Netflix in February, from new romcoms like the Reese Witherspoon-starring “Your Place or Mine” to the return of murderous stalker Joe Goldberg in “You” Season 2 part 1.

Penn Badgley has long dispelled any misnomers of his “You” character being a romantic, but Joe himself still believes that’s who he is at his core. After killing his wife and faking his own death, Joe sets off for Europe so he can find Marianne (Tati Gabrielle), the woman he convinced himself he’s in love with before she learned the truth and fled. But breaking old habits has never been easy for old Joe, who quickly gets caught up in a most dubious clique of London high society that has its own struggles with lust, power, and the occasionally fatal crime.

Over two decades since the original 2001 film’s release, “Spy Kids” is set to be reimagined by Netflix in partnership with Skydance and Spyglass. Creator Robert Rodriguez returns to write, direct, and produce the film. Cast and production details have not yet been set.

The “Spy Kids” reboot will “introduce the world to a new family of spies,” per an official press release. This will mark Rodriguez’s second family film with Netflix, following the success of 2020’s “We Can Be Heroes.”

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will produce for Skydance, which will oversee development and production. Elizabeth Avellan and Racer Max will also produce. Spyglass owns the Spy Kids franchise. Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre will executive produce.

Netflix has closed a deal with Skydance to produce a reimagining of the Spy Kids franchise, alongside Spyglass Media, LLC and filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, who created the film series and directed all past installments.

The next film in the franchise, introducing the world to a new family of spies, will also be written and directed by Rodriguez. Lionsgate has acquired the vast majority of the Spyglass Media Group’s feature film library of approximately 200 titles and formed a strategic content partnership, the two companies announced today. The agreement gives Lionsgate a 20% investment stake in Spyglass. whose major assets include the latest installment of the Scream blockbuster horror franchise to be released January 14, 2022, the hit movie The Upside, the iconic fashion competition series Project Runway, and the revival of the Hellraiser franchise, currently in pre-production.

The agreement also includes a multiyear first-look television deal between Lionsgate Television and Spyglass. The library titles acquired by Lionsgate encompass a broad range of critically-acclaimed commercial blockbusters including Fruitvale Station, The King’s Speech, Scream 4, Scary Movie 5, Spy Kids 4, Paddington, Silver Linings Playbook, Lee Daniel’s The Butler and, adding to the Company’s large and growing portfolio of Quentin Tarantino titles, Django Unchained, Inglourious Basterds and The Hateful Eight.

Rowan Blanchard was about six months into her Vancouver-based shoot for Season 2 of TNT’s dystopian thriller “Snowpiercer” when Covid-19 struck North America.

“We were so close to finishing. They had two episodes left on Season 2 and they immediately sent everyone home,” says Rowan’s mother, Elizabeth Blanchard.

The sudden pivot from working nonstop to a complete shutdown of the biz came as somewhat of an emotional shock to Rowan. At 18, the Los Angeles native is a seasoned actor, having landed her big break in “Spy Kids 4-d: All the Time in the World” before going on to star in the Disney small-screen series “Girl Meets World” and Ava DuVernay’s big-screen adaptation of “A Wrinkle in Time.”

Nearly 20 years after starring in the 2001 Robert Rodriguez film, Daryl Sabara and Alexa PenaVega came together on Monday for a special remote reunion thanks to Sabara’s wife, Meghan Trainor!

Trainor, 26, staged the virtual get-together during an Instagram Live on her account. She and her husband had just rewatched the original movie — one of four Spy Kids films Sabara and PenaVega starred in together — and were answering questions for about 40 minutes before PenaVega appeared as a surprise special guest.

There’s the nihilism of Sin City. A place where wounded men have to remind themselves to “never let the monster out,” and a woman can “makes slaves of men,” and even “good men” are turned on by a woman’s tale of rape (which she invented, of course, because this is Sin City, where you can’t trust a dame). A place where men are nothing but how they can use their rage and women are nothing but how they can use their bodies.

And that’s none of it nice.

In a summer packed to the gills with big budget comic book films featuring star-spangled Avengers, web-slingers, time traveling mutants and intergalactic ex-cons, it’s understandable that one particular comic book movie has flown a bit under the radar. Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For comes at the tail end of summer, arriving in theaters on August 22nd, and promises much of the same bloody, pulpy, black-and-white grit and mayhem that made the original 2005 film so special. However, you’d be hard pressed to find much buzz about it, making the marketing campaign that much more important.
