Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Alba expressed her excitement and inspiration for making this film. "I loved Die Hard. I loved Star Wars. Carla Gugino recently told BuzzFeed that her beloved role in Robert Rodriguez’s 2001 family action film “Spy Kids” was “physically totally impossible.” The actor was 27 years old when she filmed the movie and played Ingrid Cortes, the mother of two spies. By Gugino’s math, the character didn’t add up.
“It is so funny because I was 27,” Gugino recounted. “It was a really beautiful kind of double-edged sword because I love that movie so much. And the whole experience was incredible, and the movies continue.”
“I love Ingrid Cortes. But it was funny because I was 10 years, at least, too young for the role because I was a spy for 10 years and then somehow had children who were like 9 and 11,” she continued with a laugh. “So it was physically totally impossible.”

During a recent interview with BuzzFeed, the actress, who played Ingrid Cortes, looked back at her time filming the 2001 movie, alongside Antonio Banderas, Alexa PenaVega and Daryl Sabara. The action-adventure film, directed by Robert Rodriguez, followed a family of spies.

Netflix regularly takes down movies and TV shows because their agreements with content owners expire. Warner Bros. Pictures’ DC movies started appearing on Netflix in phases from December 2023. This move is part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s plan to license more content to other platforms like Netflix.
In 2023, HBO titles became available on Netflix for the first time, with more expected throughout the year. However, these agreements were short-term, lasting only 3-5 months. By the end of March, most DC superhero movies on Netflix will be taken down. Here’s the list of movies leaving the platform:
‘Man of Steel’ (2013) ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ (2016) ‘Suicide Squad’ (2016) ‘Wonder Woman’ (2017) ‘Justice League’ (2017) ‘Shazam!’ (2018) ‘Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)’ (2020) ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ (2020) ‘The Suicide Squad’ (2021) ‘Black Adam’ (2022) ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ (2023) ‘Spy Kids: All the Time in the World’ (2011)

Netflix periodically removes movies and TV shows from its streaming service due to the expiration of licensing agreements with content owners. Warner Bros. Consequently, 2023 marked the first time HBO titles were available on Netflix, with plans for more throughout the year, but the contract was short-term in nature over a period of 3-5 months, and now by the end of March, most DC superhero movies that remain on the platform will be removed. In 2005 and in 2007, director Tim Story made a pair of feature films starring the Fantastic Four, one of Marvel Comics' most superlative titles. "Fantastic Four," created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, was more or less a family sitcom except the three family members and their best friend all happened to have superpowers. It was light and comedic, while also featuring bloviating, demonstrative supervillains who shouted regularly about the glories of world domination. It was a comic book series that declared itself to be The World's Greatest Comics Magazine!
Story's feature film adaptations were not very well received when they were released. 2005's "Fantastic Four" only bears a 28% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while its sequel, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," only has a 38% approval rating. Moreso, Marvel Comics fans were harsh to Story's movies, hating their cartoony tone and corny scripts. It's worth acknowledging, however, that Story's...

The Spy Kids franchise featured a number of notable cameos from established actors and directors, including Richard Linklater, Glen Powell, and Selena Gomez. These cameos allowed actors to break out from their traditional typecast and genre, showcasing their versatility and talent in a different setting. The Spy Kids franchise provided a platform for up-and-coming stars to start their careers, with actors like Selena Gomez and Taylor Momsen making their early appearances in these movies.
While the Spy Kids franchise centered on interesting main characters, it also included a number of cameos from both well-known actors and up-and-coming stars. Throughout the 2000s, Robert Rodriguez directed and released Spy Kids movies that became a staple in children's movies. The first three Spy Kids movies followed Juni and Carmen Cortez, but the next two movies also followed pairs of children in the Spy Kids division of the Organization of Super Spies, or Oss.

The Spy Kids franchise is centered on the Cortez family, with multiple generations of spies taking on the family legacy of espionage. Juni Cortez, the youngest member of the family, goes from a weak kid to a world-saving protector throughout the Spy Kids movies. Carmen Cortez, the responsible sibling, starts off watching over by her brother, Juni, but ends up being rescued by him in later films.
The Spy Kids franchise follows several generations of one family, and the movies may raise questions about how the characters are connected to one another. Set in a world full of espionage, Spy Kids sees siblings Juni and Carmen taking on their family legacy of being spies. Despite their destiny being hidden from them for most of their childhood, Juni and Carmen eventually take on the career path that their entire extended family — parents, aunts and uncles, and grandparents — has taken part in throughout their lives.

Spy Kids: Armageddon is a nostalgic installment in the franchise, meant to introduce a new generation of kids to the series. Spy Kids: Armageddon 2 could be on the horizon depending on the success of the first rebooted movie, with director Robert Rodriguez expressing hope for a sequel. The young cast of the rebooted Spy Kids franchise allows for the potential for multiple sequels, as the actors were only 8 years old during the first movie, giving them several years to continue the series. While Spy Kids: Armageddon 2 hasn't been confirmed yet, if a second movie is greenlit, a possible release date could be in 2025, following a similar timeline to the first rebooted movie. Robert Rodriguez isn’t against bringing original Spy Kids stars Alexa PenaVega and Daryl Sabara back for another film. But the director says the time between the latest installment, Armageddon, and 2011’s Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World, meant that it was “important to just start the franchise fresh.”
The filmmaker spoke about his decision to launch the latest Spy Kids chapter with a completely new family — and new set of leading child stars — in a new interview with Yahoo Entertainment.

Carmen, Juni, and the rest of the Cortez family are back for another butt-kicking spy adventure. In April, Netflix announced that Robert Rodriguez, the original director of the 2000s action films, signed on to write and direct an upcoming "Spy Kids" reboot movie. Skydance Media optioned the film rights to Netflix with the intention of reimagining the spy thriller for a modern audience, according to Variety.
Officially titled "Spy Kids: Armageddon," the new project will be the fifth installment in the "Spy Kids" franchise, following the original 2001 "Spy Kids" and it's three sequels: "Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams," "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over," and "Spy Kids: All the Time in the World." The new Spy Kids movie, Spy Kids: Armageddon, is largely a reboot rather than a direct sequel to the original movies. The teaser trailer for Armageddon maintains the humor and charm of the previous movies, featuring family gadgets and locations with an all-new cast. There are hints that Armageddon may be connected to the original movies, with the possibility of original characters making a return, making it more of a "requel" than a full reboot.
There hasn't been a new Spy Kids movie since 2011, but Netflix is finally bringing back the franchise with the fifth movie in the series, Spy Kids Armageddon. The Spy Kids movies have largely been successful for creator and director Robert Rodriguez following the first entry's premiere in 2001. After Spy Kids' $147 million box office gross (via Box Office Mojo), the following two sequels performed just as well without a substantial budget increase, which is an impressive feat for Rodriguez.

February is for lovers. But with its list of new releases for February 2023, Netflix is unveiling another season of arguably its least romantic show.
That’s right: Joe is returning in You season 4 part 1 on Feb. 9. This time around our central stalker played by Penn Badgley is across the pond in jolly old England, living an unassuming life as a bearded professor and looking for his next target. If you don’t get your fill of You this month, stay tuned for the second part of season 4 in March.
You will be joined in February by a third season of another buzzy Netflix original. The kids of Outer Banks return on Feb. 23 to find their literal and metaphorical treasure once and for all. Love is in the air on Netflix in February, from new romcoms like the Reese Witherspoon-starring “Your Place or Mine” to the return of murderous stalker Joe Goldberg in “You” Season 2 part 1.
Penn Badgley has long dispelled any misnomers of his “You” character being a romantic, but Joe himself still believes that’s who he is at his core. After killing his wife and faking his own death, Joe sets off for Europe so he can find Marianne (Tati Gabrielle), the woman he convinced himself he’s in love with before she learned the truth and fled. But breaking old habits has never been easy for old Joe, who quickly gets caught up in a most dubious clique of London high society that has its own struggles with lust, power, and the occasionally fatal crime.
Here’s everything coming to Netflix in February 2023.

Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids) has always found a fascinating balance in directing both B-level action/horror films and hyper-creative family vehicles. According to "The Hollywood Reporter," the multi-talented director will next hop aboard a family-friendly project for Warner Bros., a live-action adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon Jonny Quest. Along with directing the film, Rodriguez will rewrite the Dan Mazeau-penned script (a 2008 Black List item) with family adventure staple Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean). The film will be Rodriguez's first family venture since 2011's Spy Kids: All the Time in the World. The original Jonny Quest ran from 1964 to 1965 and followed Quest, his father Dr. Quest, bodyguard/government agent Race Bannon and Dr. Quest's adopted son Hadji as they globetrotted on various adventures. A Quest film has been in development for quite some time, with a project featuring Zac Efron as Quest and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as...

An unnecessary sequel that’s empty and arduous, little more than vignettes on vengeance and cruel parades of sociopathic power performed as gleefully ultraviolent shadowplays. I’m “biast” (pro): loved the first film
I’m “biast” (con): didn’t see a need for a second

There’s the nihilism of Sin City. A place where wounded men have to remind themselves to “never let the monster out,” and a woman can “makes slaves of men,” and even “good men” are turned on by a woman’s tale of rape (which she invented, of course, because this is Sin City, where you can’t trust a dame). A place where men are nothing but how they can use their rage and women are nothing but how they can use their bodies.
And that’s none of it nice.

In a summer packed to the gills with big budget comic book films featuring star-spangled Avengers, web-slingers, time traveling mutants and intergalactic ex-cons, it’s understandable that one particular comic book movie has flown a bit under the radar. Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For comes at the tail end of summer, arriving in theaters on August 22nd, and promises much of the same bloody, pulpy, black-and-white grit and mayhem that made the original 2005 film so special. However, you’d be hard pressed to find much buzz about it, making the marketing campaign that much more important.
