The UK Global Screen Fund [Ukgsf] has opened “massive” post-Brexit opportunities for the UK creative sector, according to Scotland-based animation producer Ken Anderson.

“The Ukgsf is about our outward-looking perspective on the business – this is not about the UK,” said Anderson, speaking on a panel at the Screen Summit ‘The Future of UK Film’ yesterday titled ‘How the UK Global Screen Fund can help facilitate international collaborations’.

Three German regional film funds - Film- und Medienstiftung Nrw, Fff Bayern and Hessen Film & Medien - have allocated more than €12m to new film and TV series projects in their latest funding sessions.

The fifth and final season of Babylon Berlin, scheduled to start production this autumn, received the largest sum of €2m from the funding committee of Düsseldorf-based Film- und Medienstiftung Nrw.

Award-winning Colombian director-producer Simon Brand and Miami-based media executive producer Daniel Eilemberg have joined forces with the founders of Emmy-winning Imaginer Films, Julio César and Laura Franco, to launch Clover Studios, a new production services company in Colombia.

It’s understandable that the turn from July to August on the calendar doesn’t create much excitement for most TV viewers. The Roots have revealed the 2023 lineup for their annual Roots Picnic, taking place over three days (June 2nd-4th) in the group’s hometown of Philadelphia.

This year’s festival will begin on Friday, June 2nd, with special stand-up performance from Dave Chappelle at the Wells Fargo Center. The festivities will then move to The Mann in Fairmount Park, with a weekend lineup headlined by Ms. Lauryn Hill (performing The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill) and Diddy with the backing of The Roots.

Ally Pankiw will make her feature directing debut with “Brooke & Sam,” an upcoming comedic drama featuring “Shiva Baby” breakout Rachel Sennott.

The film, which quietly wrapped production, follows Sam, a young stand-up comedian and au pair struggling with Ptsd, who is weighing whether or not to join the search for Brooke, a missing girl she used to nanny. The story exists between the present, where Sam tries to recover from her trauma with the help of her friends in the comedy community, and the past, where memories of Brooke make it harder and harder to ignore the teen’s disappearance; and harder and harder to get back on stage.

Pankiw, who wrote the script along with directing the film, has established herself in the television and streaming world. Her directing and executive producing credits include the entire first season of Netflix’s series, “Feel Good,” which was created by and stars comedian Mae Martin.

In the new Netflix film Mixtape, 12-year-old Beverly (Gemma Brooke Allen) tries to learn about her late parents by tracking down the songs they loved, a task made difficult by the pre-iTunes and Spotify era in which the movie takes place. Bowen is joining forces with NBC for a comedy pilot under a new deal with Universal Television.

The star's production company Bowen & Sons have closed a deal with Universal for a comedy penned by The Goldbergs writer Steve Basilone.

Variety is reporting that Bowen is set to play Lulu Wallace on the as-yet-untitled comedy.

Her character is a public relations professional who loses everything in her divorce, forcing her to return home for the first time in a decade.

Upon her return home, she helps her father save the Magic Manor from cancellation.

“Julie is an exceptionally talented actress and producer who has captivated audiences across the globe,” said Erin Underhill, president of Universal Television.

Julie Bowen, the actor who starred as Claire Dunphy in “Modern Family,” has signed a first-look deal with Universal Television for her production company Bowen & Sons. She is partnered with Rachael Field, who associate produced “Modern Family,” on the banner.

Under the deal, Bowen has a put pilot commitment for a currently untitled single-camera comedy that she will star in as Lulu Wallace, a public relations professional who loses her business in her divorce and goes home for the first time in a decade to help her father, an aging magician, save the Magic Manor from cancellation. Steve Basilone writes the series and executive produces alongside Bowen, Field and magician Justin Willman. Universal Television is the studio.

Vince Vaughn has signed on to star in Peter Billingsley's action-thriller "Triple Time" at Scott Pictures. Michael J. Wilson and Billingsley co-wrote the script. Vince and Victoria Vaughn will produce.

Below, you'll see the first official photo for director Ron Howard's Formula 1 racing film Rush (September 20, 2013 ), starring Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl. Director Tom Vaughan, who recently wrapped the Miley Cyrus comedy So Undercover, signed on to direct the coming-of-age drama Mixtape, based on Stacey Menear’s script about a young girl who loses a mixtape, her only connection to her deceased parents, and sets out to learn about their lives by investigating the little-known songs on the tape’s case. Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray of Maven Pictures teamed up with Jim Wedaa Productions to produce Mixtape. Menear’s script won the American Zoetrope screenwriting contest in 2009 and appeared on the 2009 Black List of the best un-produced screenplays.
