PaleyFest NY is lining up shows for this year’s event, starting with panels devoted to the 10th anniversary of Starz’s “Outlander,” one for HBO’s “Somebody Somewhere” and another for AMC’s “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol.”

The festival will run from Oct. 16 to Oct. 22 in midtown Manhattan and feature screenings and conversations with the casts and creative teams of the season’s most-anticipated television.

Tasmania-set crime-drama series “Bay of Fires” is to be reignited for a second season.

The show sees a single mother, portrayed by Marta Dusseldorp, forced into a witness protection program that relocates her and her family to a remote location in Tasmania. There they are surrounded by a community of suspicious and criminally-minded individuals.

The second season gives her a glimmer of hope. After months in which time nobody has tried to kill her, the woman finds herself in a position of influence. But she needs to juggle a host of new problems, some of which are of her own making.

‘The Repair Shop’ Outfit Ricochet Signs Damon Pattison

The Repair Shop outfit Ricochet has signed up British indie vet Damon Pattison as its Creative Director. Reporting to MD Joanna Ball, Pattison will be responsible for developing, pitching and securing new commissions across all genres for the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed outfit. Pattison, who replaces Katy Thorogood, most recently ran Banijay-backed Beyond’s UK production arm but it was shuttered last year. He previously worked for BBC Studios and Keo Films, and set up Lucky Day Productions in 2007, which was sold to Zodiak Media Group. Ricochet makes smash BBC series The Repair Shop along with the likes of Channel 4’s Food Unwrapped and Discovery’s Woodland Workshop. “Damon’s experience, energy and creativity, is precisely what we need in a Creative Director,” said Ball.

We’re now at the end of 2023, and the list of canceled Netflix shows for the year is now complete. Below, we’ll look at all the high-profile cancelations (that have been announced anyway) as of December 2023.

Cancelations are a painful part of being a Netflix subscriber. There’s nothing worse than starting a show only to discover that it’ll never properly conclude. Netflix isn’t the only network by any means to cancel, but given the scale of the service globally and the amount of content it produces, it’s easy to see why Netflix is the boogeyman.

With that said, Netflix does renew plenty, with over 150 shows at any given time set to return for future seasons.

There will also be lots and lots of shows that fall outside of this list into two camps.

Naturally ending shows include The Crown, Firefly Lane, and Never Have I Ever.

“Carmen,” “Foe,” “Limbo,” Australia’s Oscar contender “Shayda,” “Streets of Colour” and “The Royal Hotel” have received the six nominations for best feature film at this year’s Screen Producers Australia Awards. The Spa Awards will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, the final evening of the Screen Forever conference.

In the documentary feature section, the nominations are “Flyaways,” “Harley & Katya,” “Living With Devils,” “Onefour: Against All Odds,” “The Cape,” “The Giants,” “The Jewish Nazi?” and “The Platypus Garden.” Nominations for best telemovie or miniseries production are “While the Men Are Away,” “The Claremont Murders,” “Wellmania,” “The Messenger,” “Bad Behaviour” and “The Clearing.”

Wellmania will not be returning for a second season. Netflix has cancelled the Australian comedy-drama series, according to the star of the series, Celeste Barber. She revealed the news in a video shared on her Instagram account.

Also starring JJ Fong, Johnny Carr, Lachlan Buchanan, Remy Hii, Genevieve Mooy, and Alexander Hodge, the series is based on the Wellmania: Misadventures in the Search for Wellness book. Bridgit Delaney wrote the book and co-created the series with Benjamin Law. The series tells the story of Liv (Barber) as she abandons her "live fast, die young" philosophy following a major health scare and the cancellation of a dream job in the United States.

Netflix will not be making a return trip to Wellmania. The series has been cancelled after one season, star and executive producer Celeste Barber has revealed in an emotional Instagram video.

“I just wanted to check in and give you a little update to let you know that Wellmania will not be renewed for another season,” Barber’s message begins. “I understand that in the grand scheme of things, with what is going on in the world at the moment, who f–king cares? But a lot of you do care. A lot of you are still asking me about it.

Netflix’s Wellmania is leaving the gym for the final time, its star Celeste Barber has said — and she isn’t happy about it.

Barber posted an update on Instagram revealing that she has been informed the show will not be returning for a second season. The first debuted in late March.

“Netflix said it’s something about numbers. Sure. I thought it smashed it but I don’t understand how it works,” she said.

“Thank you for the love and support around the show. It was so fun, we had such an excellent time and the way it was received was so overwhelming. I’m bummed that I can no longer explore that excellent character of Liv Healy, and I know a lot of you saw yourselves in that character and wanted to see more, but this industry is kinda bullshit.”

Set in a pre-#metoo era, Oz girl-band drama “Paper Dolls” has been realized by an all female filmmaker team shedding light on this darker era for women in the music industry.

Former MTV Australia chief Mark Fennessy executive produced the 8-part scripted drama for Paramount + through his two-year-old banner Helium. eOne is launching international sales at Mipcom this week.

As well as empowering women filmmakers in Australia, the production shows what Fennessy is currently dedicated to – creating premium Australian content and finding the resources to take it to the next level to compete internationally with its rival Anglo markets.

Netflix has announced four new productions as it ramps up its Australia originals slate, including movie Love Is In The Air, starring Delta Goodrem as a seaplane pilot falling for the man sent to sink her business.

Shot with 8K Vista Vision in Queensland’s picturesque Whitsundays islands, the film is directed by Adrian Powers and co-produced with Jaggi Entertainment. Joshua Sasse, Steph Tisdell and Roy Billing also star in the film, which will premiere on Netflix on September 28.

Sarah Snook is pregnant in real life — and in HBO’s “Succession” — but in “Run Rabbit Run,” she plays a mother and fertility doctor who is frightened by her young daughter’s inexplicable memories of a past identity.

The Australian thriller from director Daina Reid and writer Hannah Kent released its first trailer as the film is confirmed to screen at next month’s Sydney Film Festival. “Run Rabbit Run” made its world premiere as the opening title of the Midnight section of the Sundance festival in January. The film will launch on Netflix on June 28.

Emmy-nominated Snook stars alongside Damon Herriman and Greta Scacchi. Variety’s review from Sundance called the film an “effective if familiar mommy-issues chiller.”

Netflix’s Global Top 10 for the week April 3-9, sees made-for-streaming Korean title “Kill Boksoon” on top of the non-English-language films list, with 27.5 million hours watched in its second week of release.

It is immediately followed by Thai film “Hunger,” about a young woman apprentice in an upmarket restaurant working under a tough boss. The film is directed by Sitisiri Mongkolsiri and stars “Bad Genius” breakout Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying.

The Night Agent is officially one of Netflix‘s most popular series of all time.

The series pulled in 130.48M hours viewed and remained atop the English-language TV List for the week of April 3 to April 9. It has now tallied 515.57M hours viewed since its release on March 23, placing it at No. 9 among the list of the streamer’s Most Popular List.

The Night Agent bumped Ginny & Georgia Season 2, which had 504M hours viewed in its first 28 days, off the Most Popular list. It replaced Inventing Anna, which now sits in 10th place. The series still has about a week left to continue climbing up the list, as Netflix measures its most popular series only based on wasthe first 28 days of viewership.

At this rate, the series starring Gabriel Basso is tracking to potentially land in Netflix’s all-time Top 5 series by the time its measurement window is over.

Netflix has released its Top 10 for the week of March 27, and it was little to no surprise that Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston‘s comedy sequel “Murder Mystery 2” entered the English language films chart in first place. After all, the original 2019 movie was such a huge hit for Netflix.

The action-comedy sequel entered the charts with 64.4 million hours viewed, the second-biggest launch for a comedy film with 42 million views, appearing in the Top 10 in 91 countries with it being the #1 movie in more than 60 of those countries.

Right behind it was the original “Murder Mystery” with 24.7 million hours viewed globally, and the previous #1 movie “Luther: The Fallen Sun” with 12.7 million viewing hours. The lack of strong family films in theaters allowed four animated films to get into the Top 10 with Netflix’s “The Magician’s Elephant” leading the pack with 6.3 million viewing hours.

The Night Agent is quickly making its way toward becoming one of Netflix‘s most popular English-language series of all time.

In its second week on the service, the action thriller amassed another 216.4 million hours viewed from March 27-April 2, easily reigning over the Top 10 for the week. Not only did it increase viewership significantly in its second week, it also has positioned itself to likely be crowned one of Netflix’s all-time most-watched TV series.

Since its release, The Night Agent has tallied 385M viewing hours, making it about 120M away from hitting the all-time Top 10 TV list. Currently the 10th spot is taken by Ginny & Georgia Season 2 with just over half a billion viewing hours.

Last week, the series had the third-best premiere week of viewing across Season 1 TV for any Netflix Original when it clocked more than 160M viewing hours in its first few days on Netflix, only behind Wednesday and Dahmer.

“Murder Mystery 2” was Netflix’s top film title after its March 31 debut. In its first three days of availability, the film took the title for Netflix’s second biggest opening weekend for a comedy film with over 42 million views. The sequel starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston earned 64.42 million hours viewed total during the March 27-April 2 viewing window and also appeared in the Top 10 in 91 countries. The first film in the franchise also joined the list of film titles at No. 2 with 24.7 million hours viewed.

On the English TV side, “The Night Agent” continued to stay ahead of the competition taking the No. 1 spot for the second week. In its first 11 days of availability, the series was viewed for 216.39 million hours pushing the action-thriller to 385 million total hours viewed in its first two weeks and now has more than 47 million views.. The current season of “Wellmania” began on a chirpy note, where we got to see Oliva Healy go from pillar to post to fix her health. Getting her health right would mean she could reinstate her green card and fly back to New York as soon as possible. During the entire first season, we got to see a highly successful food critic, Olivia, a goofy woman in her mid-thirties who is surrounded by friends from the food industry and friends from her hometown of Sydney, as well as some m family members with whom she shares a complicated history. Liv gets along with them at times but most of the time they are at loggerheads over something regarding the family’s past with tragedy and how they dealt with it. The final episode was all about Liv coming to terms with the fact that she does have frequent blackouts, and as the doctor mentions,...

So, Women telling women’s stories is all the rage, and no one from the sistren is complaining. It is high time stories about women of all ages are told through movies and television shows, and through these, we hope to be projected as normal human beings, not some exotic creatures with superpowers to make things right. “Wellmania,” a Netflix Original, is all about a woman who will have to deal with her family after a health scare and the fact that she will have to consider staying back in her home country for some time. March is yet another packed month for Netflix.

There’s a live stand-up show from Chris Rock and a film based on BBC series Luther, which marks Idris Eba’s return as the detective. Then there’s an animated series depicting Elvis Presley as a secret agent voiced by Matthew McConaughey.

Meanwhile, Adam Sandeler and Jennifer Aniston are up to mischief once again in a sequel to 2017 comedy Murder Mystery.

There’s also a host of licenced titles being added to the service in March. Find the full list below.

March is a time for madness, whether it comes from basketball, Mercury retrograde, or a person’s home streaming habits. Netflix joins in on the chaos by updating its library with all three “Hangover” movies, a whole lot of workout content, “Magic Mike Xxl,” and much, much more.

On March 9, the streamer will premiere Part 2 of “You” Season 2, starring Penn Badgley, Charlotte Ritchie, and Ed Speleers. The five remaining episodes find Joe (Badgley) trapped in a volatile dance with London mayoral candidate and serial killer Rhys (Speleers), trying to prevent more murders but also not go down for the many he’s committed in the process. The trailer shows Joe and Kate (Ritchie) growing closer, more brushes with Kate’s wealthy socialite friends, and the return of Victoria Pedretti as Joe’s wife Love — or maybe the ghost of his wife, and of sins past.

Netflix has picked up rights in the U.S. and numerous international territories to “Run Rabbit Run,” the Sarah Snook-starring psychological horror/thriller that premieres Thursday night at Sundance. The streamer plans a 2023 release for the film, which shot in Australia.

Snook plays a fertility doctor who firmly believes in life and death, but when she notices her young daughter behaving strangely, she must challenge her own values and confront a ghost from her past.

“Succession” star Snook stars alongside Lily Latorre, Damon Herriman and Greta Scacchi in the movie directed by Daina Reed, who has helmed TV episodes including “The Shining Girls” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Hannah Kent wrote the screenplay, with Sarah Shaw and Anna McLeish producing.

Executive producers are Nate Bolotin, Maxime Cottray, Nick Spicer and Aram Tertzakian of XYZ Films, Deanne Weir, Olivia Humphrey, Jack Christian, D.J. McPherson, Daina Reid, Sarah Snook, Jake Carter and Katie Anderson.

Leading production conglomerate Fremantle announced a new structure in Australia that will bring the development and production of all its entertainment, reality, and game show formats under the control of unscripted producer, Eureka Productions. Eureka is led by co-CEOs Chris Culvenor and Paul Franklin.

Fremantle Australia’s interim CEO, Greg Woods will take on the firm’s CEO role permanently and lead the other side of Fremantle’s Australian business. This will focus on the development and production of drama, documentaries, and factual-skewing programs.

The new structure follows Fremantle’s increased shareholding in Eureka last year and will see the label take on production of all Fremantle’s entertainment catalogue, including “Australia’s Got Talent,” “Australian Idol” and “Farmer Wants a Wife.”

It also follows the exit of Fremantle Asia Pacific CEO Chris Oliver-Taylor that was announced in December. Oliver-Taylor is set to join Netflix Anz as its head of physical production.
