Thailand’s government is set to increase the cash rebate for foreign shoots from 20% to 30% after a meeting with senior Hollywood execs.

Plans to increase the rate have been in the works since early 2023, but progress has since slowed.

However, Thai representatives talked up the plans at recent Asian confabs, and sources say they were the centerpiece of a networking reception for LA execs at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel hosted by Thai Prime Minster Paethongtarn Shinawatra.

According to a post on a Thai government website, in attendance at the Wiltshire were Motion Picture Association CEO and Chairman Charles Rivkin, Disney’s Cathleen Taff, HBO/Warner Bros Pictures’ Jay Roewe, Amazon MGM Studios’ Vernon Sanders, NBCUniversal’s Chris Miller, Netflix’s David Hyman, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Jill Rather and Paramount Pictures’ Sharon Keyser.

The result looks likely to be a 30% rebate on foreign shoots in the country with no cap.

In her latest film “Depravity,” Victoria Justice steps away from her typically wholesome roles into mature territory. The thriller follows college roommates Grace and Aria, played by Justice and Devon Ross, as they investigate their mysterious neighbor Mr. Evers. Their investigation leads them to discover stolen artwork and spirals into a dangerous situation.

Justice portrays Grace, a thrill-seeking law student drawn to danger. “She finds the excitement and risk really appealing,” Justice said. For her first intimate scene filmed on the first day, Justice was nervous but credited the director with creating a comfortable environment. Her co-star Taylor John Smith regularly checked on her comfort level to ease tensions.

Paul Tamasy’s directorial debut, Depravity, starring Victoria Justice, is a strangely generic crime thriller that aims to convey the inner darkness prevalent among people through a tedious, overtly stretched-out story involving three youngsters and a series of bloody mischiefs. While the premise is simple and somewhat interesting, the plot isn’t gripping at all, and the characterization and acting are mediocre at best, if not unnecessarily over the top most of the time, making the nearly two-hour-long movie feel like an eternity. The third act completely falls apart without adding any sort of emotional weight to the narrative, and by the time Depravity reaches its ending, you probably won’t care about the fate of the characters anyway, because nothing in the narrative implored you to do so.

Victoria Justice won’t forget her first day on the job.

The former Victorious star talked about shooting her first sex scene in the upcoming crime drama Depravity while visiting SiriusXM Hits 1 LA with Tony Fly and Symon. She was visiting the show to promote her new single, Raw.

I don’t think anyone is too terribly upset over NBC’s decision to cancel the crippled musical-drama Smash. The amount of times the show managed to be engaging and worth viewing was few and far between. I only managed to get through the first season and two of Season 2’s episodes before throwing in the towel. I’ve no idea from my own experience if the final season improved, but from what I’ve heard of how things went down, canceling the show was like euthanasia. Truth be told, I enjoyed NBC’s short-lived series Smash. Perhaps not the second season, save for a few great songs from Jennifer Hudson, but the first season touched on the unsung world of Broadway and off-Broadway theater.

Now that series Katharine McPhee is back on the casting blocks, she’s looking to shake the good girl, Sandra Bullock image and do something a little more dicey. In Smash, McPhee played the small town girl who tries to make it big through a theatre staging of Marilyn Monroe.
