The Wild Robot made history for DreamWorks Animation on Thursday when it received three Oscar nominations: Best Animated Feature (Chris Sanders and Jeff Hermann), Best Score (Kris Bowers), and Best Sound. That’s the most bids ever for a single film in the studio’s 30-year history.

“I could not be more delighted,” director-writer Sanders tells Gold Derby via phone from Japan, where The Wild Robot was “on the verge of opening widely.”

“So many people work on these for such a long time, and this sort of recognition is just so wonderful.”

Sanders is now tied with Pete Docter and Hayao Miyazaki with four nominations in the Best Animated Feature category. Sanders previously contended at the Oscars for Lilo & Stitch (2002), How to Train Your Dragon (2010), and The Croods (2013), and is now looking for his first win.

This year two of these movies — “Memoir of a Snail” and “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl” — are among the frontrunners in a group of films vying for top honors in the animated film category during awards season.

A new year means a batch of new movies on your favorite streaming service, and this month brings a mountain of new releases and originals in addition to terrific library additions. The votes are in for the 2025 Dorian Awards nominations. Galeca: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics said today that Neon’s Anora, Amazon MGM Studios’ Challengers, A24’s I Saw the TV Glow, Orion Pictures/Amazon MGM’s Nickel Boys and Mubi’s The Substance will battle it out for Film of the Year.

Vying for LGBTQ Film of the Year are Challengers, I Saw the TV Glow, Netflix’s Emilia Peréz and A24’s Love Lies Bleeding and Queer.

Nominees for the all-gender Film Performance of the Year prize are Golden Globe winners Adrien Brody (The Brutalist) and Demi Moore (The Substance) along with Daniel Craig (Queer), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Peréz), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths), Nicole Kidman (Babygirl), Mikey Madison (Anora) and Justice Smith (I Saw the TV Glow).

Chasing Villeneuve’s sci-fi sequel is Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist (8), Edward Berger’s Conclave (7) and Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance (7), while Anora, Nickel Boys, and Wicked each earned 6 nominations.

The list was released Thursday following two postponements due to the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.

Nominees for the guild’s top film prize, the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, include Sean Baker’s dramedy Anora, Brady Corbet’s historical epic The Brutalist, Edward Berger’s Conclave, Jacques Audiard’s musical Emilia Pérez, Jon M. Chu’s adaptation of Wicked, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two, James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown, Jesse Eisenberg’s bromance dramedy A Real Pain, Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance and Tim Felbaum’s thriller September 5.

The Producers Guild will also present special honors to Chris Meledandri (David O. Selznick Achievement Award), Dana Walden (Milestone Award), Taika Waititi (Norman Lear Achievement Award) and Lynda Obst and Paula Weinstein (Trailblazer Award).

The Producers Guild of America has announced its 2025 PGA Awards nominations across film and TV categories.

For the guild’s top film prize, the Daryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, the nominees are Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, A Real Pain, September 5, The Substance and Wicked.

The guild had initially planned to announce its film and TV nominees last Friday but the announcement was postponed twice, first to Sunday, Jan. 12 and then to “next week” amid the wildfires raging across Los Angeles.

The guild also extended its voting window after the fires broke out last week, giving members until Saturday to vote on this year’s nominees.

The Producers Guild has also established a fund, in partnership with the Entertainment Community Fund, to support producers affected by the fires.

Conclave emerged the favorite among the 2025 Ee BAFTA Film Awards voters, scoring 12 nominations including Best Film, Director, Leading Actor, and Supporting Actress. Emilia Pérez was close behind with 11 nominations, followed by The Brutalist with nine and Anora, Dune: Part Two, and Wicked with seven.

Overall, 42 films earned BAFTA Film Awards nominations, and 14 of the 24 performance nominees are BAFTA Awards first-timers.

Winners will be announced on February 16th.

Bafta has announced the nominations for the Ee British Academy Film Awards in 2025, celebrating the very best in film of the past year. Bafta winner Will Sharpe and former Ee Rising Star winner Mia McKenna-Bruce hosted the announcement via global livestream from the arts charity’s headquarters at 195 Piccadilly, London. The Ee Bafta Film Awards, hosted by David Tennant, will be broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer from London’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 16 February. In addition, the Ee Bafta Film Awards will be available across BritBox in North America, the Nordics and Australia, as well as a host of further international broadcasters to be announced. Viewers at home will also have front row seats to the red-carpet arrivals, which will be streamed live on Bafta’s YouTube, featuring interviews with nominees and other special guests. Roll up, awards buffs: shiny trophy season is hotting up, with BAFTA having announced its nominees for this year’s ceremony. And fittingly, it seems BAFTA members might have gathered in robes to submit their votes on little white slips of paper: papal thriller Conclave is the most-nominated film this year, receiving 12 nods including Best Film, Director for Edward Berger, Leading Actor for Ralph Fiennes, Supporting Actress for Isabella Rossellini, Adapted Screenplay and more. Send up the white smoke, people.

Hot on Conclave’s heels is Emilia Pérez, Jacques Audiard’s genre-defying crime-thriller-musical-character-drama, in which a cartel boss undergoes gender-reassignment surgery to begin her new life. The film is nominated in 11 categories. Audiard is nominated for Director, while the film itself is up for Best Film, Adapted Screenplay, Film Not In The English Language. Universal is absolutely towering over the studios and streamers when it comes to this year’s BAFTA nominations.

Thanks to “The Brutalist” (nine nominations), “Anora” and “Wicked” (seven each), plus “Nosferatu” (five), “The Wild Robot” (three) and “Monkey Man” (one), Universal and its offshoot label Focus Features have amassed an astonishing 32 nominations in total, twice that of its nearest competitor, Netflix. The streamer landed 16 overall, led by the 11 from “Emilia Pérez.”

But Universal could have had five more had it not offloaded Coralie Fargeat’s body-horror “The Substance” before Cannes.

Further down, the nascent distributor Black Bear U.K. had a phenomenal year thanks to the 11 nominations for “Conclave”, and three for “Sing Sing.” Black Bear’s total of 12 was two up on Disney, which earned 10, most coming from Searchlight’s “A Complete Unknown.”
