Exclusive: Johnny Cannizzaro (Jersey Boys) has joined the ensemble cast of 20th Century’s Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere. The New Jersey native will portray Springsteen’s longtime confidant and E-Street band guitarist Stevie Van Zandt, sources close to production tell Deadline.

Cannizzaro will star opposite The Bear‘s Jeremy Allen White, who will bring “The Boss” to life in the feature film from director Scott Cooper. Odessa Young, Paul Walter Hauser and Harrison Sloan Gilbertson also star. Production is set to kick off in early fall.

With its list of new releases for May 2024, HBO streamer Max is bringing back one of the best comedies on television.

Hacks season 3 premieres on May 2 and will continue the tortured (platonic-ish) love affair between comedy superstar Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and her former joke writer Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder). That will be followed up by Pretty Little Liars: Summer School on May 9.

Movie-lovers have more than enough to keep them occupied in May 2024 as well. The latest John Green adaptation, Turtles All the Way Down, will premiere on May 3. That will be followed by intriguing original documentary MoviePass, MovieCrash on May 30. Max is also putting its Warner Bros. origins to good use with a bunch of excellent library movies like The Iron Claw on May 10 and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice on May 26.

Starting on April 30, 2024, the film will be available to rent/own on all digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms in North America and on DVD.

Stargazer tells the story of what happens when a naïve grad student, Grace Campbell, gets the chance to revive the reputation of a forgotten female astronomer, Cecilia Payne. Cecilia discovered the nature of the universe, but saw her genius stolen by men. For Grace, history threatens to repeat itself when she’s forced to partner up with Spike Randall, an aggressive journalist who just booked Grace an appearance on a new television talk show with Annette Gordon-Reed the very next day—but at what cost? A dancer named Diana eavesdrops through the library shelves...

Singer Frankie Valli‘s son, Emilio, has been granted a temporary restraining order against his brother, Francesco. In recent months, Emilio claims that Francesco has repeatedly threatened to harm him and their famous father.

The request for the restraining order was filed on April 8 by Emilio, 29, in Los Angeles. In the filing, Emilio stated that Francesco, 36, attempted to break into their father’s property on April 5. During the incident, while waiting for law enforcement to arrive, Francesco allegedly made multiple physical threats to harm or even kill both Frankie and Emilio. Emilio asserted that this behavior is part of a pattern that has persisted for several months.

Emilio indicated in the filing that the family believes Francesco is struggling with addiction to opiates. While Frankie has been providing financial support to his son, Emilio claims that the support is now conditional on Francesco agreeing to enter a residential drug treatment program.

They both posted a video on their Instagram accounts updating their fans on what they’ve been up to recently. In the reel, they wrote, “Lately we’ve been making new music, making birthday wishes, went to Disneyland, made more music stuff, turned off our phones and went to the beach.”

Frankie Valli, the falsetto-voiced frontman of the Four Seasons, best known for his hits “Sherry,” “December, 1963” and “Grease”, married longtime love Jackie Jacobs in Las Vegas Monday at the Westgate Hotel, Et confirmed.

Speaking to the People following the loved-up affair Valli said, “It’s terrific to have found love once again at this stage of my life.”

Valli, 89, and Jacobs, 60, exchanged vows in a private ceremony with just the two of them, while Valli’s 1967 hit, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You,” played in the background.

As for the venue, it’s a special one for Valli, who is set to kick off a year-long residency at the Westgate with the Four Seasons later this year.

In photos shared by the outlet, Jacobs, a former CBS marketing executive, wore a white bridal gown and was all smiles as she celebrated the special occasion.

Max’s first full month without ‘HBO’ in its rebranded title has a selection that kicks off summer 2023 in fine fashion. Three of the four iterations of “A Star Is Born,” including the most recent remake starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, are streaming on Max in June. The 1954 and 1976 films land June 1, while the 2018 version arrives June 8.

To prepare for Margot Robbie’s performance in “Barbie” come July, one could watch one of her more intense roles as Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya” (2017). For some lighter summer watches, viewers might consider “Dolphin Tale” (2010), “Grease” (1978), “Hairspray” (2007) or “Tooth Fairy” (2010).

This year’s Tony race for Best Musical Revival has two Stephen Sondheim shows (“Into the Woods” and “Sweeney Todd”) in contention. Will one of them win or will they cancel each other out? Let’s go over both of them.

“Into the Woods” combines several fairy tales and explores the consequences of the characters’ quests. The main storyline focuses on a childless baker and his wife as they go into the woods to break a spell set upon them by a witch. There they run into various classic fairy tale characters, all before revealing what happens after “happily ever after.”

The original production won three Tonys in 1988 for Best Actress (Musical) for Joanna Gleason, Best Musical Book for James Lapine, and Best Original Score for Sondheim. The long-in-the-works stage adaptation of NBC’s cult favorite musical drama series “Smash” is finally heading to Broadway.

Producers Robert Greenblatt, Neil Meron, and Steven Spielberg announced Wednesday that “Smash” will bow on the Great White Way in the 2024-25 season, per TVLine.

The producers have assembled a talented team to mount the production. Five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman (“The Producers”) will direct. Bob Martin (“The Prom”) and Rick Elice (“Jersey Boys”) are writing the book. Composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (“Hairspray”), who wrote over two dozen songs for the TV show’s in-universe musicals “Bombshell” and “Hit List,” will return for the stage adaptation. Choreographer Joshua Bergasse, who won an Emmy for his choreography on the TV show, will also return for the stage version.

According to the producers, the plot will once again follow the “harrowing and hilarious” ordeal of mounting “Bombshell,” but will “depart liberally” from the series.

Smash is finally heading to Broadway.

In an announcement long awaited by fans of the 2012 NBC series, a stage musical adaptation is planned to arrive on Broadway during the 2024-25 season, with a lead producing team of Robert Greenblatt, Neil Meron and Steven Spielberg. A top flight creative team is attached, including director Susan Stroman, composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, book writers Rick Elice and Bob Martin, and the TV series’ choreographer Joshua Bergasse.

Spielberg, whose original idea led to the NBC series, said in a statement, “Smash is near and dear to my heart, and it was always my hope that a musical inspired by the show would eventually come to the stage. We now have an incredible creative team, and I’m looking forward to completing the Smash journey which began with my producing partners over ten years ago.”

In the first trailer for Hulu’s musical comedy series “Up Here,” Mae Whitman and Carlos Valdes are young New Yorkers who meet and immediately click … if only they could both silence the voices in their heads telling them they’re doing everything wrong.

The series, from “Hamilton” director/producer Thomas Kail, is written by Tony-winning playwright Steven Levenson and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (NBC’s “The Carmichael Show”) It is set to premiere March 24 on Hulu.

Whitman, who starred in NBC’s “Good Girls” from 2018 to 2021 and “Parenthood” from 2010 to 2015. plays idealistic Lindsay. Her musical career includes guest vocals with indie band Fake Problems and singing “Gardenia” with Landon Pigg on a 2010 episode of “Parenthood.”

Valdes, who played Cisco Ramon on The CW series “The Flash,” is the equally self-doubting Miguel. He’s appeared in stage productions of “Jersey Boys,” “Once,” and “Zorba!”

Two weeks after the closing of her play “Clyde’s,” Lynn Nottage has opened a new jukebox musical about a star who needs no introduction. Penned by the two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner, “Mj The Musical” features three dozen of Michael Jackson’s songs in a dramatization of the rehearsals for his blockbuster “Dangerous” world tour in 1992. The show also features flashbacks to Jackson’s beginnings in The Jackson 5 and his formative years.

“Mj” stars Broadway newcomer Myles Frost as the late sensation, while Walter Russell III and Christian Wilson alternate the role of Little Michael and Tavon Olds-Sample tackles the years in between.
