Director Pablo Berger developed the project for eight years before being able to shoot it. Maribel Verdú came aboard in 2006 after a conversation with Berger and stuck with it.

The quote on the calendar translates to: "A minute of Philosophy. -To yearn for the past is to run after the wind. Russian Proverb."
