Lille, France — Beta Film subsidiary Good Friends Filmproduktion, whose groundbreaking TNT Comedy original “Arthur’s Law” plays Saturday at Series Mania, has acquired the German remake rights to hit Swedish format “Bonus Family.”

Good Friends is in final negotiations for a German broadcaster to take the reversion.

“Bonus Family” was produced by Flx, whose credits include “The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window And Disappeared” and its sequel, “The 101-Year Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared.”

It was created by these movies’ director, Felix Herngren, and his second wife, Clara Herngren – appropriately enough, given “Bonus Family” turns on people initiating relationships with new partners who already have children.

Netflix acquired the series’ first two seasons, presented outside Sweden, where the series played very well on pubcaster Svt, as a Netflix original outside Sweden, its first totally Swedish show.

Despite reports to the contrary, Netflix had two titles at Canneseries: Harlan Coben’s closing night drama “Safe,” with “Dexter’s” Michael C. Hall, and Nico Moolenaar’s “Undercover,” a Belgian crime thriller which the streaming giant boarded early in development, taking global rights outside France, Germany and Belgium and announcing “Undercover” last November as its first Belgian-Dutch co-production.

Given Netflix does not have first-window TV rights to either show in France – that privilege on “Undercover” goes to Federation Ent., which also sells second TV window outside German-speaking territories and Belgium – Netflix’s large a<nd early involvement with “Undercover” may have been lost on most market attendees.

In two ways at least, “Undercover” is a sign of the industry times: Its multi-lateral multi window financing; its grounding in a specific reality.

*In the biggest production news of the market, “The Wire’s” David Simon and Spain’s Mediapro announced they are in co-development on a new Simon series project, “A Dry Run,” about Abraham Lincoln Battalion members fighting fascism in the Spanish Civil War.

*In Canneseries’ highest-profile sales deal, France’s Canal Plus announced it had acquired Phoebe Waller Bridge’s Canneseries’ competition favorite “Killing Eve.” HBO Europe also snapped up the show across Central and Eastern Europe, Iberia, and Scandinavia.

*One of the biggest drama announcements of the week saw Beta Film and Red Bull Media House announce they were teaming to develop a five-season, high-end soccer drama called “The Net.” Inspired by true events, each season will comprise...

“The volume, quality and global reach of drama [now] is unequalled in the history of television,” Lorenzo Di Maio, an agent at Endeavor Content, said Tuesday at a panel on TV drama financing at Canneseries, a festival in Cannes dedicated to drama series. Di Maio’s company is handling international sales on Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s “Killing Eve,” which plays in the festival’s competition.

The growing quality of high-end series is drawing in top actors and that was pushing up budgets, the panelists said. Eleonara Andreatta, director at Italy’s Rai Fiction, which has “Il Cacciatore” (The Hunter) in the festival’s competition, used the example of “Medici: Masters of Florence.” The producers hired “The X-Files” alumnus Frank Spotnitz as showrunner, and his influence helped raise expectations for the project, pushing the team to compete with other globally distributed series. “The first person we cast was Dustin Hoffman and that set the level for the project.

Pascal Breton’s Federation Entertainment has acquired international rights to “Mytho,” a series drama which will be directed by Fabrice Gobert, the creator of Canal Plus’s hit supernatural series “The Returned.”

The series is being produced by Bruno Nahon at Unité de Production. The seasoned French producer is behind a flurry of critically acclaimed films, notably Cyril Mennegun’s “Louise Wimmer,” Nabil Ayouch’s “Razzia,” and series such as “Ainsi soient-ils” (“Churchmen”), which is one of Arte’s most popular series.

“Mytho,” which comprises six one-hour episodes, will topline French actress Marina Hands (“Tell No One,” “Lady Chatterley”) as Elvira, a loving and caring wife who finds herself on the edge of burnout. One day, she starts suspecting her husband of having an affair, and on the spur of the moment, she pretends that she is sick, a small white lie that will have huge consequences.

“Mytho” has been commissioned by Franco-German network Arte.

Acclaimed British TV scribe Tony Jordan is teaming up with Greece-based Antenna Group to make “Besa,” a crime series set in the world of the Albanian mafia. Antenna’s Prva channel in Serbia, Planet TV in Slovenia, and Rtl in Croatia will air the series.

Antenna will sell the show internationally, with the pre-sales effort getting underway at MipTV. Shooting starts in Serbia this month, with delivery slated for September.

“Besa” means code of honor in Albanian. The series will follow a family man who kills the daughter of a mafia boss in a road accident. To make up for the death and protect his own family, he is then forced to commit crimes for the organization.

Jordan, whose long list of TV credits included “Hustle” and “Life on Mars,” created the series and will executive produce. The show was developed by Jordan and a team of local writers. Jordan...
