Akshay Kumar learnt a special combat karate technique for his character role in the film.
The film was remake of Telugu film Vikramarkudu but it was quite similar to three other Hindi films Kaalicharan 1976 and Humshakal 1992 and Inspector Dhanush 1991.
Akshay Kumar reported that he had accepted the role in Rowdy Rathore since his son loves to watch him in action roles.
Kumar Sanu has sung a song Chamak Challo Chel Chabeli,making his comeback to mainstream Hindi films after many years.
The film's poster had a complete painted version such posters were mostly used in old Hindi film.
