Hit US sitcoms It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia and Abbot Elementary have announced a crossover episode
An It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia and Abbot Elementary crossover? It appears to be happening, with word of the two hit sitcoms joining forces emerging in recent days.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a crossover episode between the two shows has been filmed, with writer and star Rob McElhenney confirming the news via a photo of the casts together on Twitter/X with the caption “Oh. Hello”.
Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson previously teased the crossover at Comic Con in July, saying, “We will be doing an interesting crossover this season … but I’m not going to tell you with who or with what or where or when or how. But it’s really exciting, and I think it’ll change television as we know it.”

"It's Always Sunny in Abbott Elementary!" It just sounds right, doesn't it? After months of speculation, we finally have confirmation which show Abbott Elementary is doing a crossover with. Earlier this summer at San Diego Comic-Con, Abbott creator and lead actress Quinta Brunson revealed there's a special crossover happening between the ABC comedy and another series, but she didn't share details. Of course, she had to be a tease! Well, now we know which other comedy is involved. And it's FX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia!
Guys, I called this on our sister site Hidden Remote. I can't believe I was right! I feel so validated right now. I had a feeling that perhaps the theory was too out there. But I did have hope the Abbott Elementary/It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode was going to happen. Because it just makes so much sense! Even though we don't know plot details yet,...

The highly anticipated Season 4 premiere of “Abbott Elementary” titled “Back to School” is set to air on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 9:30 Pm on ABC. This episode kicks off the new school year with a twist as the neighboring construction site for a new golf course brings unexpected challenges to the dedicated teachers of Abbott Elementary. The construction chaos forces the staff to think outside the box, leading to creative and often humorous solutions to keep their students engaged despite the distractions.
Amid the hustle and bustle of the construction, the arrival of an Hr representative adds another layer of complexity to the teachers’ already hectic day. The dynamic at Abbott is further complicated by the evolving relationship between Janine and Gregory. After their recent kiss, fans are eager to find out where they stand, adding an element of romance to the comedic mix.

Fall is officially here, and October marks the beginning of spooky season, with several shows arriving in late September as well as this month that will support the chill in the air and autumnal atmosphere through Halloween.
Shows that premiered in September like Agatha All Along, The Penguin and Grotesquerie will release new episodes every week up until or even through Halloween. Only Murders in the Building Season 4 premiered in August, but it will also unfold right up until the end of the month with the tenth episode arriving on Hulu on Oct. 29.
Not to worry, though, for those in the mood for cozy stories versus creepy ones this month. Season 3 of Netflix’s Heartstopper returns Oct. 3, and though the third installment of the series based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novels addresses more serious topics, it remains joyful and comforting. Shrinking Season 2 also returns this month on Apple TV...

British actor Jamie Thomas King is adapting James Titcombe’s memoir Joshua’s Story: Uncovering the Morecambe Bay Maternity Scandal for the big screen.
King, best known for star turns in Mad Men and The Tudors, is penning a screenplay for Trust, a movie to be produced along with wife and Canadian actress Tamara Podemski as part of their newly-launched Blackbird Productions banner.
“Right now, I do not have intention to act in or direct the project. But yes, I became interested in the subject following Benjamin’s death and subsequent lawsuit,” King told The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday.
In 2016, the preventable death of their second son, Benjamin, due to medical negligence occurred five days after Podemski gave birth after a delayed caesarean section. The first episode of Abbott Elementary season 4 is titled "Back to School," and the staff are definitely going to have their hands full based on the trailer! As always, the school is very underfunded, and the hilarious trailer starts with Melissa and Barbara asking Principal Ava for books and paper towels for their classrooms. You know, basic necessities. But we know these poor guys have to work with what they've got. And of course Ava has a sarcastic response in return.
Jacob seems to have another mystery enemy other than Mr. Morton, the class pets may not be as great as they sound (the teachers asked for money for after school programs and got this instead), there's a visit from Hr, and ringworm is going around. A lockdown might be in store based on the video with Ava all suited up.
But we know this group of educators is going...

Irony, thy name is Amazon. Long before Iron Man ever arrived on the scene in his fancy metal suit and arsenal of deadly weapons, director Paul Verhoeven had already perfected the art of lampooning America's obsession with hyper-militarized heroes acting as agents of the state with "RoboCop." Action fans ought to be well familiar with how the 1987 classic had one of the first (and arguably final) words on the rise of the police state in modern society in modern genre fiction, telling the story of a sinister mega-conglomerate named (what else?) Omni Consumer Products violently spearheading the newest technological horror: taking a dead cop killed in the line of duty, resurrecting him in the disturbing "body" of a metallic droid, arming it to the teeth, and setting it loose upon the streets of a futuristic Detroit. What could possibly go wrong!

The stalwart Abbott Elementary staff has so much to contend with in the Season 4 trailer above, who wouldn’t begrudge them a raise — or at least a restocking of paper towels.

Ava Coleman is so much more than just the Abbott Elementary principal. She has said some of the show’s most iconic one-liners and has captivated fans’ hearts with her humor, capriciousness, and self-confidence, which does tend to become self-absorption.
Although her self-interest has led to some questionable decisions as an elementary school principal, we still love her. Why? because she is much more than her comedy and ego, as her unparalleled character development since the pilot episode has shown.
From her hostile first moments to her unforgettable quotes to the character she is now and everything in between, this is why we love Ava Coleman.

Undoubtedly, the Abbott Elementary principal is one of, if not the funniest character on the hit mockumentary. From her notable one-liners to her physical comedy, Ava always brings the laughs.

When we think of notorious pirates of history, Jean Lafitte, Capt. Morgan, and Blackbeard leap to mind – impressively chevelured and bewhiskered British or Frenchmen who swash-buckled through the Atlantic, Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico. But in terms of larceny upon the high seas, they may have been eclipsed not by a man or a European, but by a Chinese woman: Cheng Shih.
Actress Lucy Liu brings the charismatic corsair back to life in The Pirate Queen, a VR experience from Meta and Singer Studios that immerses users in a 19th century world of intrigue and adventure. The narrative directed and produced by Eloise Singer and produced by Liu and Siobhan McDonnell is nominated for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Emerging Media Program.
Liu and Singer first learned of Cheng Shi somewhat randomly.

A mix of seasoned veterans and fresh-faced newcomers are vying to win the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Comedy this year; it’s almost a shame only one of them can win.
This year’s six nominees include the last two winners: Jean Smart, who has won twice before for her work as stand-up comic Deborah Vance on Max’s Hacks; and reigning champ Quinta Brunson, earning her third nod as levelheaded teacher Janine Teagues on ABC’s Abbott Elementary. They’ll face a strong challenge, though, from The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri, who won in the supporting category...

Tyler James Williams has just revealed what pop star he'd love to see guest star on Abbott Elementary and it would be a great fit!
Since premiering on ABC in 2021, Abbott Elementary has become one of the biggest hit comedies on TV. The mockumentary about a Philadelphia school focuses on the teachers handling things, from a principal with zero clue how to run the place to various antics.
The series has been a huge success, earning scores of Emmy nominations and a few wins for stars Quinta Brunson and Sheryl Lee Ralph. Among the fun cast members is Tyler James Williams, who's earned three Emmy nominations as Gregory Eddie. Originally a substitute teacher, he became a regular member of the faculty, a man who truly means well to help students while dealing with his overbearing father (Orlando Jones).
A running theme of the series has been Gregory's obvious crush on...

The creative minds behind some of this year’s Emmy-nominated comedy series give insight into the process and share secrets behind their highly lauded seasons.
Abbott Elementary
In Abbott Elementary’s third season, series creator Quinta Brunson and her writers room were handed a challenge: Tell a thorough, engrossing story in eight fewer episodes than usual. The ABC comedy, which typically runs 22 half-hour blocks, was truncated as a result of the writers and actors strikes (the February premiere timing also conflicted with the series’ history of following the school year in real time). “I knew right away I didn’t want to hold anything for season four, and that I wanted to protect the finale ending we had planned,” says Brunson. She used the opportunity to try out a time jump for the first time — among other creative pivots — and the result garnered Abbott nine Emmy nominations, including outstanding comedy series.

Isn’t it astonishing how an iconic role can catapult an actress into the limelight, only for her to seemingly vanish like a needle in a haystack afterward? Such is the case with Natalie Dormer, who rose to prominence playing Margaery Tyrell, a shrewd noblewoman on Game of Thrones.
However, in the explosive finale of Season 6—a highlight that left fans reeling—Dormer’s charismatic queen meets a fiery end, ejecting the actress from the Game of Thrones roster.
Natalie Dormer in Game of Thrones (2011) | HBO
But Dormer did face her share of qualms, such as the particularly awkward sequence where she had to seduce the boy-king Tommen Baratheon. Isn’t it ironic that the actress had previously seduced Brad Pitt’s character in The Counselor without any regrets?

A chilling trailer for the new thriller Amber Alert was released today.
The film follows Hayden Panettiere‘s character, Jaq, as she is in a rideshare with driver Shane, who is played by Abbott Elementary‘s Tyler James Williams. What starts as a normal ride ends up as a dire chase to find a missing child when they realize they’re behind the car from the amber alert.
Known for her roles in Nashville and the Scream franchise, Hayden has quite the resume! She brought an intensity to the screen in Scream 4 and that intensity is shown again in the Amber Alert trailer.
Tyler has received praise for his role on Abbott Elementary and now it’s time for him to show us his dramatic chops! If the trailer is any indication, he’s got it down.

Films Boutique has acquired French and international rights to “Pigskin” (“Peau de cochon”), a 2004 film directed by Philippe Katerine, a French musician, actor and filmmaker who took part in the Olympics’ opening ceremony. Films Boutique will relaunch the film in the fall festivals for its 20th birthday.
Katerine stars in the film opposite French singer Dominique A, film critic Thierry Jousse and Helena Noguerra. Katerine won the Cesar for best actor in a supporting role in Gilles Lellouche’s box office hit “Le Grand Bain” in 2019. He’s also been celebrated as a musician and was crowned Artist of the Year at the Victoires de la Musique, French equivalent to the Grammy awards in 2020. He previously performed “Moustache” on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show.
More recently, Katerine played the Greek God Dionysus in the controversial scene which was interpreted by some as a satirical take on Leonardo da Vinci’s religious painting “The Last Supper.

To date, only three programs throughout TV history have swept the top seven Primetime Emmys categories for series, lead actor, lead actress, supporting actor, supporting actress, writing and directing. Miniseries “Angels in America” was the first to do so in 2004, followed by comedy “Schitt’s Creek” in 2020, and then drama “The Crown” in 2021. At the upcoming 2024 Emmys, “The Bear” is hoping to join this esteemed list — and it’s all thanks to a savvy category switcheroo.
Last year, the FX dramedy about a Chicago beef restaurant claimed six of the top seven prizes for its first season: comedy series, lead actor Jeremy Allen White as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, supporting actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richard “Richie” Jerimovich, supporting actress Ayo Edebiri as Sydney Adamu, and both writing and directing for Christopher Storer. “The Bear” was not eligible in the lead actress category, so it couldn’t win there and complete the sweep.

The upcoming nominations for the best in television have been announced. The list of this year’s nominations for the 76th Primetime Emmys has been announced today by actors Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tony Hale in Hollywood. This year’s event has a rare distinction of taking place less than a year after the last event, which had been postponed to January of this year due to the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes that lasted for a bigger part of the summer and fall in 2023. Last year’s Emmys included winners from such shows as The Bear, Abbott Elementary and HBO’s massively popular series Succession. The ceremony is set to take place on September 15, exactly eight months after the 75th Primetime Emmys were presented on Fox. The Hollywood Reporter has listed the nominations for this year, so here are the 2024 Emmy nominees:

Owning the rights to a number of famous movie monsters, Universal has from time to time tried to revive one or another classic hero or villain. According to Deadline, CBS has a Van Helsing series in development.
And yes, the title appears to be Van Helsing, but it’s no relation to Syfy’s Van Helsing, which must make TV history awfully confusing to the average watcher.
This Van Helsing will be a lot closer in scope to CBS’s past hit, Elementary, which followed a modern-day Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Watson solving crimes.
Apparently, this series landed at CBS after quite a bidding war for it, even if the procedural king of broadcast network TV seems like a natural fit.

As Hollywood starts to slow down ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, broadcast networks have some unfinished business — making decisions on several pilots ordered earlier this year. With development no longer confined within the bounds of the traditional TV cycle that comes to an end at the May upfronts, networks are taking longer to produce and evaluate pilots before deciding their fate. Here is where the Big 4 stand heading into the summer.
ABC has two new drama series for next season, High Potential and Dr. Odyssey — both on the fall schedule — and no new comedies. That will change as the network has two multi-camera pilots, Shifting Gears, starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings, and Forgive & Forget, headlined by Ty Burrell. Both are considered very strong contenders.
Shifting Gears is ahead of Forgive & Forget timeline-wise; a cut was delivered and seen this week, I hear. Meanwhile, Forgive & Forget is taping today.

Grab your magnifying glass, deerstalker hat, and pipe, fellow TV Fanatics, because a new Holmes-inspired show called Watson is coming to television screens everywhere as a midseason treat for the 2024-2025 broadcast schedule.
Interestingly, this will be the second CBS series to adapt the Sherlock stories, the first being Elementary, starring Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson.
The upcoming series, Watson, won't take place in the same universe, but as it shares similar elements, it'll be an amazing new show for audiences who miss the 2012 series that ended after seven seasons in 2019.
Some viewers might find the premise a touch different from the usual murder mystery plot in a good Sherlock Holmes story, but don't worry -- we're here to tell you everything we know so far!

10. Sherlock Holmes (1967–1968)
Don’t get us wrong, there were many Sherlock Holmes adaptations even before this short series, but we spared the most sensitive of you the need to watch in less than 360p. Starring Erich Schellow and Paul Edwin Roth, the 1960s’ Sherlock Holmes is as classic as they come, with just six episodes — each following a different case. Watch Sherlock Holmes on Plex.
9. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson (1980)
Also known as “the Soviet Sherlock Holmes,” this mini-series consists of five two-part movies following different cases. While half-a-century old, this adaptation lures you in with its unwavering faithfulness to the source material and doesn’t let go: the subtle interactions between Vasiliy Livanov and Vitali Solomin are just that good.
Watch Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson on Plex and Prime Video.
8. The Hound of the Baskervilles (1983)
Out of all Ian Richardson and Donald Churchill’s takes on Sherlock Holmes and John Watson,...

Two more “Frasier” alums are making a comeback: Dan Butler, who played Bulldog — the sports host at Frasier’s radio station on the original series — will visit the “Frasier” revival’s Season 2 on Paramount+, as will Edward Hibbert, who played Gil Chesterton on the O.G. show.
Butler was seen throughout the entire run of “Frasier” as Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe; his other credits inlcude “Hey Arnold!” and recent guest spots on “The Blacklist,” “Elementary” and “Blue Bloods.” Besides appearing in “Frasier,” Hibbert’s other credits include “Blue Bloods,” “Grace and Frankie” and “Search Party.”
“Dan Butler and Edward Hibbert have made an indelible contribution to television, and I am overjoyed to welcome them back to ‘Frasier’ and for the opportunity to work together once again,” star and exec producer Kelsey Grammer said in a statement.

Mel Brooks entered even more prestigious awards territory on Sunday, upgrading his Egot to a Pegot as he was recognized with the Career Achievement Award at the 84th annual Peabody Awards.
Brooks became only the fourth person to win a Peabody, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, behind Barbra Streisand, Rita Moreno and Mike Nichols. Billy Crystal presented the comedy icon with the honor at the organization’s Los Angeles ceremony. (A Pegot can also refer to a Pulitzer instead of a Peabody, which just Richard Rodgers and Marvin Hamlisch have achieved.)
“Mel is a genius who believes that comedy should push boundaries, challenge societal taboos and yes, be a little vulgar when the mood calls for it — and with Mel, the mood often calls for it,” Crystal told the crowd at the Beverly Wilshire hotel. “Mel is one of the big reasons that I have a life in comedy.
