Many studios choose to unveil big new trailers during the Super Bowl, but Warner Bros. Discovery will reveal the latest look at one of their most anticipated movies of the year during the Puppy Bowl instead. THR reports that a special sneak preview of Superman will debut during the Puppy Bowl, with James Gunn set to appear with his dog Ozu, who was the inspiration for Krypto. The Superman director will also deliver a “special message” to viewers.
The Puppy Bowl will air on February 9th. The event features a number of puppies playing with balls and toys in their own little stadium as it raises adoption awareness. “Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl serves as an annual pop culture programming event that continues to expand in reach, awareness and of course, puppies, every year,” said Howard Lee, chief creative officer of U.S. networks and president of Discovery Networks. “Win or lose,...

The holidays may be over, but awards season is in full swing.
With the drunkest of Hollywood awards shows already in the books, we can now look forward to the Grammys, the Producers Guild of America Awards, the Independent Spirit Awards, and of course, the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, which is still the only voting body brave enough to slime its presenters. A lot more people would tune into the BAFTAs if there was a chance that, say, Sir Ian McKellen might get doused with rancid Ecto Cooler.
But “Hollywood’s Biggest Night” is obviously the Academy Awards. While we’re still a little more than a week away from finding out which films will be nominated for Oscars this year, we do know who will be hosting the ceremony: former late-night host/current guy who rubbed hot sauce on his nipples for YouTube clicks Conan O’Brien.

The nominations won’t be announced till January 9, but the Art Directors Guild has found a host for its 29th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards. Actress Rachael Harris will command the stage for the February 15 ceremony at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown.
“I am honored to host the Adg Awards this year,” Harris said in a statement. “Production designers and their teams are the unsung heroes of film and television, creating the worlds we inhabit on screen. The films of Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos aren't for everyone. They're aggressively uncomfortable, poking and prodding the audience with all manner of shocking content and even more shocking ways of presenting it, but there is a lot to love in his deliciously disturbing filmography. Whether he's working from a screenplay he developed with frequent collaborator Efthimis Filippou or one written by "The Great" creator Tony McNamara, Lanthimos manages to inject his films with his unique vision, using characters that seem totally inhuman to force the audience to contemplate their own humanity. This can lead to his films being a little confusing, and that includes his 2017 thriller "The Killing of a Sacred Deer."
"The Killing of a Sacred Deer" stars Colin Farrell as heart surgeon Steven Murphy, who develops a bizarre relationship with 16-year-old Martin Lang (Barry Keoghan), whose father died on Steven's operating table. Martin begins to insert himself into the Murphy family,...

Welcome to Career Watch, a vocational checkup of top actors and directors and those who hope to get there. In this edition, we take on Nicholas Hoult, who’s doing what he’s always done: owning character roles in film, theater, and television.
Bottom Line: Hoult has an enigmatic persona that fits just about any role. The camera is drawn to his deep blue eyes, and you can count on Hoult to deliver a character’s emotional spine. (He’s not one to go overboard.) That’s why this grown-up child actor never falls out of favor. He can handle anything: Marvel superheroics, Nic Cage flicks (“The Weatherman” and “Renfield”), movies starring Toni Colette (“About a Boy” and “Juror #2”), action thrillers, and comedic bodice-rippers.
Career Arcs: Hoult first trod the boards when he was three, following in the footsteps of his older siblings. He starred opposite Toni Collette and Hugh Grant...

Nicholas Hoult revealed what item from the Nosferatu set he has at home — but he didn’t take it himself.
The actor sat down with co-star Lily-Rose Depp for an interview with Elle, where the onscreen husband and wife asked each other prewritten questions. When she asked what is a prop or wardrobe piece he has taken from a set, he explained that a recent one was actually a gift from Nosferatu director Robert Eggers.
“I have Court Orlok’s prosthetic penis framed at home,” he told Depp. “There’s a scene where Bill Skarsgard is slurping my blood, and Robert Eggers asked afterward, ‘How was that for you?’ And I said, ‘I could feel his prosthetic penis on my leg.’ And then, as a wrap gift, Rob got it framed, and he sent it to my house.”

Her debut at two catapulted the actress to child stardom, while taking the lead in The Great turned her into a household name. Ahead of the much-anticipated Bob Dylan biopic, she discusses subverting expectations, escaping her princess vibe – and why she could have been a tennis pro
‘Technically, I did my first film when I was two,” says Elle Fanning, which, at 26, makes her a youthful old-timer, already more than two decades into a hugely successful acting career. The cliché of the child star is that they will, inevitably, go off the rails at some point, unable to cope with a demanding adult-oriented entertainment business that places its leading lights on a distant and unreachable pedestal, leaving them with no concept of real life and no solid framework to prop them up. But there are other, less headline-worthy outcomes for performers who have been at it for their whole lives.

As fans wait with bated breath for the Superman trailer, which is due to drop online tomorrow, James Gunn is teasing a little bit about what influenced him during the making of this movie. A lot is riding on this first official entry in the Dcu as the movie will set the tone for the rebooted universe after Zack Snyder’s take with Man of Steel similarly kicked off the Dceu with a more divisive perception than Marvel Studios’ beginning. Deadline now reports on Gunn’s report from ComicBook.com.
The director explained, “I wrote up this big document on action and what our philosophy is of action and how we shoot it and what it is, and keeping it alive in the air, as well as on the ground. And to be able to shoot stuff in the sky as if we were shooting it … Because everything was rougher, like,...

Before 2018, Brian Cox had a pretty good life as a respected, much utilized, but not exactly famous veteran stage and film actor of six decades. And then Succession debuted, the HBO show in which Cox played the snarling, hilariously profane Rupert Murdoch-like Logan Roy, and suddenly, in his 70s, he couldn’t walk down the street without being recognized — often by a fan wielding a phone requesting a “fuck off” to share with friends and followers.
Cox was raised in, and in many ways by, the theater. Marooned in Scotland with his mentally fragile widowed mother, he escaped at 14 by sweeping floors in the Dundee Repertory Theatre and just six years later was performing the Bard’s words on the West End. By the mid-’90s, he’d earned his place in Hollywood as a reliable go-to for directors seeking a grizzled badass with Shakespearean gravitas.

Nicholas Hoult has truly outdone himself in 2024.
The English actor has received the best reviews of his nearly three-decade-long career for a trio of critically acclaimed films that were all timed to the final two months of the calendar year. To top it all off, he delivered a new take on Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman (2025), one of the most anticipated and consequential releases in quite some time. A first look is expected to arrive next week.
Beginning with Nov. 1’s Juror #2, Hoult portrayed the title character in what many consider to be Clint Eastwood’s finest film in ages. The warm response from critics and audiences has also helped keep the drama in the year-end conversation after a surprisingly limited theatrical release and modest awards campaign.

The Harry Potter HBO series continues to shape up. The latest big-budget Harry Potter project has thousands of young actors looking to land the roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. 32,000, to be exact. The series’ production says it’s adhering to the “canonical” ages of specific characters. Still, others are likely to change, including the Dursleys, who will be younger in the show. Gardiner says the cast will experience a “bigger sandpit to play in” when her Harry Potter TV series begins.

Why do we watch horror movies? Well, I for one, do not! I’m way too scared, thank you very much. But why do others enjoy them? I’d guess brain damage but scientists claim it’s to experience true fear from a safe environment. Put more grandiosely: it’s a way to deal with our own mortality.
The horror genre is alive and well, but let me posit that true crime is our generation’s new horror. Everywhere you look, today’s audiences are grappling with their mortality through books, documentaries, podcasts, movies or television shows.
And it is that final arena, TV, in which I found myself embedded when I co-created The Sticky (along with Brian Donovan). Inspired by the true crime dubbed, “The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist” in which scofflaws from The Great White North absconded with almost $20 million (Cad) of the sweet stuff.
Of course,...

Inspired by the true crime dubbed, “The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist” in which scofflaws from The Great White North absconded with almost $20 million (Cad) of the sweet stuff.

In a recent interview, design director Jens Andersson—who, in a twist worthy of an Indy adventure itself, was originally hired to work on a different Indiana Jones game back in 2009 that never saw the light of day—revealed a refreshing philosophy about exploration and player freedom that might just change how we think about open-world game design.
And let’s just say, it’s not your typical “climb the tower to reveal the map” approach.

Beyond a couple of photos, we haven’t been able to see David Corenswet in action as Superman, but James Gunn is confident that the actor will blow us away. While chatting with THR about the upcoming Creature Commandos series, Gunn was asked about the Superman movie and was full of praise for his leading man.
“Superman is an enormous bear of a movie. It’s completely different from [Creature Commandos] in every way, but it’s very much fantastic as well,” Gunn said. “Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, David Corenswet is going to freak everyone out with how great he is. He is one of the best actors I’ve ever worked with, and he can do everything. The man is incredible.”
Hopefully, we’ll get to see some footage soon. THR’s report mentions that Gunn is currently test-screening Superman, and some believe that we might...

In a competitive bidding situation, Colin Callender’s production company Playground has landed the rights to the book by the famous graphic novelist, which was published Oct. 1 by Bloomsbury. Remember when premature TV show cancellations were rare enough to inspire massive fan movements and force their home networks to bring them back? In the streaming era, the water cooler "monoculture" is no more, and streaming shows with plenty of fans seem to be canceled every single week. 2024 has seen the premature death of several notable titles, and some of them were canceled not long after they aired. "My Lady Jane," an Amazon Prime Video original, was among this season's casualties, and despite an outcry from fans, it doesn't seem to be coming back any time soon.
A historical romance with a fantastical twist, "My Lady Jane" is one of the weirder outings Prime Video has offered in recent years. As Erik Kain's Forbes review explains, the show "involves people known as Ethians who can change into animal forms and who are oppressed and outcast by the Verity, the...

It came out, indeed, and as alluded to by the Oscar-nominated actor, things didn't exactly go as planned. In the aftermath of Ridley Scott's Best Picture-winning "Gladiator," Stone finally had the opportunity to scrape together funding for his three-hour take on Alexander the Great. All eyes are on James Gunn’s Superman, which will set the tone for his DC film universe for years to come. The director and CEO of DC knew he had to dedicate time to post-production in order to make it look right, “If you do some research you’ll see my films have always taken a different approach and I’ve always given my VFX artist-collaborators time to do their jobs properly, and the respect they deserve.” He explains, “This is why we wrapped on Superman a year before release and why they’ve been hard at work on many shots for months before that.“
So, would this mean a teaser could be ready for release sometime soon? Perhaps in coordination with a couple of possible family holidays coming up? According to Collider, back in October, a fan asked Gunn on Threads if there would be a teaser or...

Before production had begun on the anticipated film adaptation of Enid Blyton‘s The Magic Faraway Tree, director Ben Gregor worried that he’d put one of his stars, Andrew Garfield, off a little bit.
“We wrote a song for the film and we sent it to Andrew early on,” Gregor explains to The Hollywood Reporter. “And I hadn’t worked with him yet and you don’t know… With actors sometimes, you can put them off.”
But Garfield loved it. The gesture ended up being instrumental in the atmosphere that Gregor later cultivated on set — one of true-heartedness, trust, and that crucial Blyton ingredient: magic. “Everybody was putting themselves out there,” Gregor says.
The project has grabbed headlines in recent months for releasing back-to-back smash hit casting announcements: first came Garfield and Claire Foy (The Crown), then came Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton, Derry Girls) and Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer), and...

Clint Eastwood’s 40th directorial effort is a twisty courtroom drama-slash-thriller that finds a good man in an impossible situation – both in the sense of “How can he get out of this?” and “Well, that’s highly improbable.” Then the movie settles into a taut, understated good time with a strong lead performance … before stumbling confoundingly at the finish line.

Perhaps best known for her tenure as Baby Spice, Bunton and her fellow Spice Girls dominated pop culture in the ’90s with a string of chart-topping singles and the kind of ubiquity rarely achieved in music. On TV, Bunton has served as a judge on Dancing on Ice and Boy Band and served as a mentor on The X Factor in her native U.K. In the U.S., she co-hosted two seasons...

Amy Adams is on the promotional circuit for her new movie, where she thinks she’s a dog. You read that correctly. Nightbitch is a new comedy that initially gave off the impression that Amy Adams plays a mom who may be turning into a werewolf, but the movie actually doesn’t cross into the supernatural as some may expect. Our own Chris Bumbray says in his review, “While horror fans will be disappointed to learn this isn’t the quasi-Amy Adams werewolf movie we all wanted, Nightbitch is still a nice little flick that would make for a great night out at the theatre for new parents. Variety profiles Adams for her upcoming film and the actress addresses her past projects. She reflects on her time in the Dceu playing Lois Lane opposite Henry Cavill. While Cavill’s exit...
