From screenwriter Jason Filiatrault (Entanglement), Bakalova and Cherry lead the cast as Gary, a cowardly husband, and Ell, a heartbroken widow, who meet through a Tinder hookup only to end up with a killer’s car, a dead body and $40,000 in cash. Pre-production is set to begin this fall in the Columbia Valley region of British Columbia.

Titled Isn’t It Scary, the upcoming sequel to the Rebel Wilson-starring comedy was announced by Deadline this week, with April Prosser (Look Both Ways) writing the script.

It’s interesting to note that Isn’t It Romantic, which poked fun at rom-com tropes, was directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson, known to horror fans as the director of The Final Girls (2015). So maybe it’s not such a stretch that the franchise is dipping its toes into horror. That being said, Deadline’s report doesn’t mention whether or not Strauss-Schulson will return to direct.

The film was developed during the merger between Fox and Disney; in fact, "Dark Phoenix" was released on June 7, 2019, early into the new management's tenure. During that theatrical run, it made only $254 million on a $200 million budget, ultimately losing $133 million in the worst bomb of 2019.

“The Deb,” according to the official synopsis, tells the story of “lovable farm-girl and high school outcast Taylah Simpkins, who is certain the upcoming Debutante Ball, ‘the Deb,’ is her one chance to redefine herself. Rebel Wilson is getting ready to serve as the star of “Double Fault,” a tennis comedy in development at Paramount Players.

Jim and Brian Kehoe, the brothers who wrote the 2019 high school comedy “Blockers,” are in talks to pen the screenplay. The logline is being kept under wraps.

“Double Fault” will be produced by Wilson and Todd Garner (“Senior Year”), with Brad Jenkel (“The Matador”) on board as executive producer.

Wilson recently starred in Netflix’s teen comedy “Senior Year,” in which she played a 37-year-old who wakes up from a coma and returns to high school to get her diploma.

In Variety’s review of “Senior Year,” Dennis Harvey praised Wilson as “a naturally gifted comedian” who pulls together the movie “through sheer force of personality and riffing performance chops.”

The 75th Ee British Academy Film Awards, or BAFTA Awards, will broadcast and stream on Sunday, starting at 7 p.m. GMT (11 a.m. Pt).

Following last year’s virtual ceremony, this year’s BAFTA Awards will take place in person at London’s Royal Albert Hall with Rebel Wilson set to host. The red carpet begins at 2 p.m. GMT (6 a.m. Pt), and the ceremony starts at 5 p.m. GMT (9 a.m. Pt). The ceremony broadcast will air a couple hours later, at 7 p.m. GMT (11 a.m. Pt).

Exclusive: Todd Strauss-Schulson and Adam Devine are reuniting for a third time as the former has signed on to direct and exec produce the pilot episode of Peacock’s Pitch Perfect (w/t) spinoff series

Strauss-Schulson has previously worked with the actor on 2015 comedy slasher film The Final Girls and 2019 rom-com Isn’t Is Romantic.

He will direct the first two episodes of the series and exec produce the pilot episode.

Richie Keen, who directed Peacock’s Bust Down and NBC’s Kenan, is the producing director and an exec producer across the season.

The Pitch Perfect series, which has received a straight-to-series order at the NBCU streamer, follows Devine’s vocal villain Bumper Allen, several years after viewers saw him in the films. Invited by his old friend Pieter Krämer, played by Flula Borg, Bumper moves to Germany to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin.

A “Pitch Perfect” series has been ordered at Peacock with Adam Devine onboard to reprise his role from the film franchise, Variety has learned exclusively.

The series is set several years after the events of the films. Devine returns as Bumper Allen, who moves to Germany to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin.

Bumper was the main antagonist of the first film and the leader of the all-male a cappella group The Treblemakers. He returned in the second film as a supporting character and the love interest of Rebel Wilson’s character, Fat Amy. He worked as a backup singer for John Mayer before returning to his alma mater, Barden University, as a security guard.

Bowen Yang and Joel Kim Booster are set to star in “Fire Island,” a romantic comedy from “Spa Night” director Andrew Ahn.

Described as a modern day take on Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice,” the film will center on two best friends embarking on a weeklong vacation to Fire Island — the historic gay escape off the southern shore of Long Island — with the help of cheap rosé and a cadre of eclectic friends.

The project is set up at Searchlight, and will release exclusively on Hulu in the U.S. Globally, the film will stream on Disney Plus under the Star brand.

Lisa Banes, known for her roles in the films Gone Girl and Cocktail, as well as numerous Broadway productions, died yesterday, 10 days after being struck by a scooter or a similar vehicle in a hit-and-run incident in New York City. She was 65.

“We are heartsick over Lisa’s tragic and senseless passing,” said manager David Williams. “She was a woman of great spirit, kindness and generosity and dedicated to her work, whether on stage or in front of a camera and even more so to her wife, family and friends. We were blessed to have had her in our lives.”

Actress Lisa Banes is in critical condition at a Mount Sinai Morningside hospital in New York after a hit-and-run incident involving a man on a scooter on Friday.

“We have several days ahead of us to pray for Lisa,” Banes’ wife, Kathryn Kranhold, told the New York Daily News. “If anyone has any information about the scooter driver, we ask them to please call police.”

Banes, whose on-screen credits include “Gone Girl” and “A Cure for Wellness,” was in New York to perform a show for the Manhattan Theater Club. According to police, she was on her way to dinner when a man on a motorcycle or scooter ran through a red light and collided with Banes in the crosswalk.

“He just wiped her out,” a witness told the Daily News. “He didn’t even stop. He just kept going … People were filming her, not helping her.”
