Emilia Clarke landed the role of Daenerys Targaryen on HBO's Game of Thrones when she was still a young actor, and rode the show's popularity to international fame. Game of Thrones was the most iconic show of the 2010s and Clarke was in the middle of it as the Mother of Dragons.
It's rare for an actor to score such an important gig so early in their career. Given how intense producing the show was, Clarke is only recently starting to appreciate how singular an experience it was. "The more distance I have from Game of Thrones, the more I can quantify it," she told People last June. "When I started, you don't know what you're doing, you don't know what you're surrounded by and you don't know what you're taking part in."

How busy has 2024 been for actress Adria Arjona? She graciously chatted with IndieWire from the airport, right before a recent flight. “It’s the only time where I can kind of have a second,” she said, sheepishly.
While the actress became a bonafide star-to-watch via a breadth of projects over the years, from “6 Underground” to “Father of the Bride” and “Andor,” Arjona recently achieved a new level of success as the romantic lead opposite Glen Powell (another 2024 breakout) in Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man.”
What followed the inventive Netflix rom-com of the summer was a standout role in Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut “Blink Twice,” and now the opportunity to star and produce indie dramedy “Los Frikis,” in which she plays nurse to a group of youths in 1991 Cuba, who purposefully injected themselves with HIV in order to escape poverty by entering a government-run treatment home. A few weeks ago, Prime Video put out all six episodes of The Sticky, a terrific comedic/crime saga starring the great Margo Martindale as Ruth Landry, a Canadian maple syrup farmer who schemes to steal millions of dollars of maple syrup (it’s loosely based on an actual heist that took place in Quebec). Her co-stars in the show include Jamie Lee Curtis (who also produced the show with Jason Blum), as well as the great Chris Diamantopoulos, who’s been in loads of stuff over the years, including The Office, Silicon Valley, the movie version of The Three Stooges (he was Moe), Red One, and much more. He’s also the official voice of Mickey Mouse for Disney, a role which has netted him two Emmy nominations.

It's always a delight to see someone as peculiar as Aubrey Plaza make it big. Known for her deadpan affect and zany antics, Plaza has made a name for herself in the industry through both her comedic and dramatic roles. Indeed, though she is best known for her sardonic sense of humor and stony expression, she's shown us her range in recent years, mobilizing her natural intensity for a fascinating assortment of roles. From starring in Francis Ford Coppola's divisive "Megalopolis" to voicing a cat named Tardar Sauce in "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever," Plaza's projects run the gamut.
Plaza's fans know that her talk show appearances are just as delightful as her films and television shows. Remember when she got up on the desk and licked Stephen Colbert's face? Or when she went full witch for Seth Meyers? But, as wonderful as Plaza's public persona is, we're...

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the scripts behind the awards season’s buzziest movies continues with Netflix’s The Piano Lesson, the adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning August Wilson play that was directed by Malcolm Washington in his feature-helming debut. Washington co-wrote the script with Virgil Williams, the Oscar-nominated so-screenwriter of 2017’s Mudbound.
The film, which features a stellar ensemble including Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, Ray Fisher, Michael Potts, Erykah Badu, Danielle Deadwyler and Corey Hawkins, had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival. It hit theaters in early November and began streaming on Netflix on November 22, and has since picked up a Best First Feature Spirit Awards nomination for Malcolm Washington and several supporting actress noms for Deadwyler.
Malcolm and Williams teamed to work on the script to get to the root of Wilson’s play, the latest in the playwright’s Century Cycle series to be adapted to the screen.
In Piano Lesson, the story is set in the 1930s and revolves around the Charles family’s prized heirloom piano. One brother (John David Washington) plans to build the family fortune by selling it, while one sister (Deadwyler) will go to any lengths to hold onto the sole vestige of the family’s heritage. Their uncle (Jackson) tries to mediate, but even he can’t hold back the ghosts of the past.
Deadline Related Video:
“Every family has a history, stories from the past that inform the present; an origin story,” Malcolm Washington says. “Ultimately this story is much bigger than me and my family — it, like the Black American experience, is an inter-connected web of stories that span space and time.”
In addition to Mudbound, Williams, the longtime Criminal Minds writer-producer, previously teamed with Denzel Washington, co-writing the Washington-directed 2021 drama A Journal For Jordan starring Michael B. Jordan and Chanté Adams.
Check out Malcolm Washington and Williams’ A Piano Lesson script below.

Criminal Minds took the crime genre to a whole new level when it was released in 2005 and also presented a stunning ensemble of actors. But just like any other long-running show, even this series went through a lot of changes in the main cast. While Mandy Patinkin left the project for personal reasons, actor Thomas Gibson was fired in 2016 after his on-set altercation with a writer.

These exits also overshadowed the departure of actor Shemar Moore who played Derek Morgan on the show. While his exit was due to a lot of reasons, after Criminal Minds he got on board S.W.A.T. which was nearly canceled twice.
After Mandy Patinkin and Thomas Gibson’s Exit Shemar Moore Left Criminal Minds for S.W.A.T.
Criminal Minds with its thrilling plots and storylines can easily be one of the most interesting crime dramas out there.

The world of Criminal Minds has brought forth several storylines and relationships. While some have been well received by fans, others have sometimes managed to raise a few eyebrows. One such dynamic was between Kristen Vangsness’s Penelope Garcia and Shemar Moore’s Derek Morgan. The duo had a platonic relationship on the show. However, this was filled with playful flirtations and humorous banters.

While fans obviously adored their unique dynamic, it often walked a fine line between lighthearted teasing and crossing certain professional boundaries. Garcia in particular frequently pushed the limits of the show with her comments that would be considered inappropriate or even workplace harassment in real life.

For 17 seasons, Criminal Minds gave us chills with its dark cases, but let’s talk about the real mystery: the Bau’s baffling hiring policy. Profilers with zero field experience? Check. Team members with more personal baggage than the victims they chase? Double check. Somehow, this elite unit became a revolving door of brilliant-but-flawed recruits.

Serial killers stood no chance, but Hr? Oh, they really dropped the ball. From genius hackers with dark pasts to agents who barely survived the job interview, the Bau’s staffing choices were chaotic at best—and, honestly, the biggest crime the show never solved.

Criminal Minds gave us a squad of legends, but one star hustled harder than anyone else—and somehow never got the hype he deserved. While others soaked up the spotlight, this guy stayed in the trenches, putting in insane work and delivering every single time. No drama, no shortcuts—just pure, next-level dedication.

But here’s the kicker: when fans gush about the show, his name barely gets a mention. Seriously? Talk about underrated! It’s wild how someone can grind so hard and still fly under the radar. Criminal Minds is a beloved show for many reasons. Be it the grotesque themes, police investigations, funny banter, or Spencer Reid’s character as a whole, fans absolutely adore the series. So much so, that it has become one of the most watched and beloved crime shows of all time.

While the love that fans have for the series has certainly helped its ratings, at times, their love has also blinded them to a certain degree. This is more true for the case of plot holes. Considering the series is 17 seasons long and running, it is not surprising that some plot holes will appear.
However, there are a few that could completely erase certain characters from the series.

BBC Sets Feature On Fire At Bradford Soccer Match
The BBC is making a feature doc about a tragic fire at a Bradford soccer match that preceded the Hillsborough disaster. On the 40th anniversary of the tragedy, the BBC said Unforgotten: The Bradford City Fire (working title) will provide “the definitive record of a forgotten tragedy, as told through the compelling personal testimony of those who were there, many of whom speak here for the first time.” The fire is believed to have been started by a discarded cigarette or match at half time of Bradford City’s game with Lincoln City in 1985. The number of lives lost reached 56 and the event made headlines around the world but has since been somewhat forgotten, overshadowed by the Hillsborough disaster that took place four years later. Simon Young, BBC Head of Commissioning, History, said: “This film gets at the heart of a modern dilemma.

Cross is an adaptation done right.
Unsurprisingly, Aldis Hodge brings the titular character to life, making this iconic hero his own mere seconds into the season premiere.
He doesn’t release his hold on the audience, as he completely captivates them, and moves them with his portrayal until the credits roll in the season finale.
(Keri Anderson/Prime Video)
But again, it’s no surprise, as from Leverage and Underground to City on a Hill, he has not only shown off his range throughout his career but has proven to be a powerhouse performer.
Cross was made for him; he distinguishes himself from previous iterations and his predecessors, Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry, thus delivering the best adaptation.

Luke Evans is surprised there aren’t more gay actors performing the kind of macho screen roles that have made him a Hollywood star.
In an interview with The Guardian newspaper, the Welsh actor shared that he first realised he had broken through one of Hollywood’s glass ceilings when he was cast in macho roles including The Hobbit and the Fast & Furious franchise, and gay activist and actor Ian McKellen (Gandalf in Lord of the Rings) told him, “Ooh look at you, you’re going to be a big butch star!”
Evans said of McKellen’s comment: “He was aware of the ground I was treading. I just hoped it would have moved further than it has.”

“Bad Sisters,” Apple TV+’s Emmy-nominated dark comedy-thriller, is finally returning for Season 2, and it got a new trailer on Tuesday. The trailer promises further complications for the five Garvey sisters right when things are finally getting better for them, as they try to keep their murder of John Paul (Claes Bang) a secret while a new character played by Fiona Shaw (“True Detective: Night Country”) is onto them. The trailer is scored by an Irished-up version of Fiona Apple’s “Criminal,” which opens with the lyric “I’ve been a bad, bad girl.”
“Bad Sisters” premiered in 2022 and earned four Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Sharon Horgan (“Catastrophe”), who also co-created the show with “New Girl” veterans Brett Baer and Dave Finkel and serves as executive producer. The Irish series also received a Peabody Award, a BAFTA Award for Best Drama Series, and...

It’s been two years since Apple TV+’s Bad Sisters broke bad… but they haven’t gotten away with it yet.
The streamer has released a trailer for Season 2 of the pitch-black comedy (premiering Wednesday, Nov. 13), with the Garvey sisters picking up the pieces after the “accidental death” of Grace’s jerk of a husband John Paul. Grace has moved on… and is even getting married to a new bloke named Ian, played by Owen McDonnell. They’re not mourning the loss of John Paul, either: “The world is better off without him,” Ursula insists. “Even the Pope would say that.

Exclusive: Big news for Criminal Minds fans — one of the long-running series’ most popular stars, Matthew Gray Gubler, is returning to television as the lead of another CBS crime procedural, Einstein (working title).
Gubler is set to play the title role and produce the CBS Studios pilot, from the Monk team of creator/executive producer Andy Breckman and director/executive producer Randy Zisk. Like Monk, as well as the German series Einstein is based on, the CBS procedural is a drama with comedic undertones.
In it, brilliant but directionless, the great grandson of Albert Einstein (Gubler) spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor until his bad boy antics land him in trouble with the law and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective solve her most puzzling cases.

Charlie Hunnam has taken on some killer roles over the years, from Jax Teller in Sons Of Anarchy, to Percy Fawcett in The Lost City Of Z, to Ray in The Gentlemen — heck, the man even played King Arthur, the titular role, in Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword. Now, after a jaunt to Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon, Hunnam is lining up an actual killer role — a serial killer one, in fact. Per Deadline's reporting, at the premiere of Netflix's Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story on Monday, showrunner Ryan Murphy not only unexpectedly announced that a third season of his true crime anthology series is in the works, but that Hunnam will star in it as infamous murderer Ed Gein.
Originating with 2022's Evan Peters starring Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, prolific TV creator Murphy's show tackles a different real life monster with each new cycle.

Ryan Murphy has found his next Monster in Ed Gein… and Charlie Hunnam. The Sons of Anarchy star is set to play the serial murderer and body snatcher, often referred to as “the Butcher of Plainfield,” in a third cycle of the Netflix anthology series Monster.
Murphy announced the casting, as well as plans to start production next month, before a Monday screening of the series’ latest effort — Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Each cycle of the Monster franchise intends to tackle a different true-crime story after the massive success of the 2022 debut about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. That series still ranks as the third-most-watched English-language Netflix original of all time. Season two shifts the focus to the infamous Menendez brothers, who were convicted of killing their parents in 1989, with the case becoming a media sensation in the 1990s when it went to trial.

Ryan Murphy surprised the audience at the premiere of Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on Monday with news about the next installment of his anthology series for the streamer. As he introduced onstage the cast of Monsters, including Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny, he announced that there will be a third season starring Sons of Anarchy alum Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein.
Murphy didn’t provide additional details about the project, including writers. His announcement was unexpected, I hear, and it is unclear whether all deals for the new installment are done yet.
Season 3 harkens back to the original Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story as it centers on another twisted serial killer. Edward Gein, known as Butcher of Plainfield or the Plainfield Ghoul, confessed to murdering two women in the 1950s and also allegedly made trophies out of bodies and skin of corpses he exhumed from graveyards.

Charlie Hunnam will star in “Monster” Season 3 at Netflix as notorious serial killer Ed Gein.
Series co-creator Ryan Murphy made the announcement onstage during a promotional event in Los Angeles for “Monster” Season 2, which focuses on the Menendez brothers and the murder of their parents. The first season of the anthology series focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Gein, who also hailed from Wisconsin like Dahmer, became infamous in the 1950s when authorities discovered that he not only had killed multiple people, but had dug up graves from a cemetery near his home and fashioned all manner of household items and clothing from human remains. You know what they say: Opposites attract. We’ll have to see if such is the case with Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez) and a new character joining Criminal Minds: Evolution for its upcoming 18th season (the third of the revival). Aimee Garcia will appear in multiple episodes, Deadline reports. The Lucifer star will be playing Dr. Julia Ochoa. She is one of the country’s leading neuropsychiatrists and is helping a high-profile patient as he recovers from an injury-induced brain trauma. She comes at the situation in a gentle way, which will clash with Luke’s more aggressive one. With Garcia in multiple episodes, we can’t help but wonder if sparks could fly between Luke and Julia and if that might mean some jealousy from Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness); their day may not have gone well but it doesn’t seem like the door is completely shut on a potential relationship.

On August 16, 2024, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that comic writer Garth Ennis has written a script for a movie adaptation of his comic series "Crossed". Ennis' "Crossed" script has been acquired by the indie production company Six Studios.
These days, Ennis is most known as co-creator of "The Boys" (alongside artist Darick Robertson), the vicious superhero parody that's become one of Prime Video's premier programs. If you think "The Boys" can indulge in ultra violence and bad taste, you ain't seen nothing yet.
Published by Avatar Press, "Crossed" has well over 100 issues to its name, spread out over various mini-series and the long-running "Crossed: Badlands." Alan Moore even wrote the "Crossed +100" installment. What is this horror tale of epic length about? "Crossed" is basically Ennis' take on a zombie apocalypse.
In "Crossed," a pandemic sweeps the world that robs people of empathy and inhibition. The infected turn into raging sadists, their...
