As the big-budget projects get delayed and studios attempt to secure a deal with the Writers’ Guild of America, some of the smaller films that work outside of the studio system hope to use their grassroots status as an advantage during these times. Kevin Smith recently announced that his production, The 4:30 Movie, was approved to film with a waiver, and his movie is intended to start its principal photography later this month. Now, the director of the Kickboxer reboot is now preparing for his next two projects, hoping to get a waiver to allow his film to proceed.
According to Deadline, Dimitri Logothetis, the director of Kickboxer: Vengeance and Kickboxer: Retaliation, is planning for the shooting of the conclusion to his trilogy with Kickboxer: Armageddon. The film is set to star Alain Moussi, who took over for the part of Kurt Sloane, previously occupied by action legend, Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Exclusive: Veteran action director Dimitri Logothetis is gearing up to shoot his latest set of features, Kickboxer: Armageddon and Flying Shadow, in Mississippi and Malta.
Scripts for both were written prior to the start of the strikes, and each project is currently in pursuit of a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement, the goal being to kick off production for each in January.
Armageddon is the final chapter in a reboot trilogy based on the Kickboxer action franchise, which originally starred Jean-Claude Van Damme. The first film directed by Mark Disalle and David Worth, which debuted in 1989, introduced viewers to Kurt Sloane (Van Damme), who must learn the ancient kickboxing art of Muay Thai in order to avenge his brother. While later entries Kickboxer: Vengeance and Kickboxer: Retaliation would also feature the action star, he was absent through the second and fifth installments, with the focus segueing to Kurt’s younger brother,...

If you grew up in the 80s and 90s and watched action movies, you knew your musclemen. You had your Schwarzeneggers and Stallones. You had your Lundgrens and Van Dammes. Right out of the gate, when Jean-Claude Van Damme graced the big screen, he was magnetic. For one, he had the name people will endlessly make “Damn!” puns with. For another, he was a likable and charming actor. And for everything, he had the muscles, the looks, and the moves. Van Damme would find his calling to be reflective later in his career. He would play a Muay Thai teacher in the Kickboxer remake, Kickboxer: Vengeance, when he was the student in the original. And he would also play meta versions of himself in projects such as Jcvd and Prime Video’s Jean-Claude Van Johnson.

Twenty-five years on from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels the British gangster revival is still going strong. Case in point Hitmen, the new film from writer/director Savvas D. Michael who has already made several contributions to the genre including The Bezonians, Smoking Guns and Original Gangster.
Luke and Lauren are having marital issues. But that doesn’t mean she’s thrilled when Jackie starts hitting on her and when she mocks him, hitting her. This leads to a beating which in turn leads to Jackie’s death.
That would be bad enough, but Jackie’s grandfather Michael is a wealthy CEO with some rather shady connections. When they’re acquitted by reason of self-defense he puts a million-dollar contract on the couple.

Photo: ‘Jiu Jitsu’/Netflix Shoot For The Comets New to Netflix this past weekend is the sci-fi comic book adaptation ‘Jiu Jitsu’ starring Alain Moussi, Frank Grillo, Nicolas Cage, JuJu Chan, and Tony Jaa. The film is directed by Dimitri Logothetis, the filmmaker behind Kickboxer: Vengeance, who also penned the comic the film is based on with co-writer Jim McGrath. The film follows Jake Barnes, played by Moussi, as he goes toe-to-toe with an alien warrior that arrives every six-years when a comet passes over Earth to challenge the human Jiu Jitsu warriors to battle. This film is very ambitious in its production, specifically with its camera and stunt work — unfortunately, when shooting for the stars the film doesn’t always make it. The film has some nuggets of good ideas and potential but overall, has too many aspects that needed improvement for me to be satisfied. Related article: A...

Turns out that working in Hollywood and fighting in a steel cage are more similar than one would think.
Georges St-Pierre, the esteemed mixed martial arts fighter and former UFC star, is preparing a second act as a thespian. He notes that the two professions are somewhat alike.
“My sport is a full-contact sport, so there’s a lot of mental work,” he says. “Trash talking, mind games. Deep down inside, you’re afraid, but you have to act like the win is inevitable. It can be heartbreaking. You have to dig deep and show perseverance.”
Doesn’t that sound like a movie set to you?
The 39-year-old says many of his peers have an awareness that Mma is not forever, and eventually bodies will be diminished by all the punches and kicks. He’s been dabbling in films, upping his game by joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2014’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,...

Alain Moussi is an international action star born on March 29, 1981 in Libreville, Gabon from a Lebanese father, Jean Moussi, and French-Canadian mother, Rita Moussi. Moussi began his martial arts training in the art of jujutsu under Canadian martial arts legend John Therien and also trained in kickboxing under legendary kickboxing champion Jean-Yves Theriault. He had trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Carlos Machado, eventually earning his black belt in the art. The classic martial arts film Kickboxer was given new life in 2016 by producer and screenwriter Dimitri Logothetis, the man behind the remake Kickboxer: Vengeance. The legendary Jean-Claude Van Damme took on the role of the mentor, while martial artist Alain Moussi was introduced to the world of cinema with the starring role of the young man who wishes to face the Muay Thai fighter who took the life of his brother in Thailand. “Dimitri and I, we’ve known each other now for 10 years, he’s a dear friend”, said Moussi in an interview for Screen Anarchy. “It started as producer hiring an actor, I was saying give me the chance. That’s what Dimitri did for me and that was the relationship. It progressed to...

Anthony Michael Hall is heading back to high school, starring as the assistant principal and executive producing the independent drama “The Class,” Variety has learned exclusively..
Hall broke out as high school brainiac Brian Johnson in the 1985 classic “The Breakfast Club,” which focused on five students serving high school detention on a Saturday. “The Class” involves a diverse group of six high school seniors forced to show up on a Saturday to retake an exam they either failed or missed in order to graduate.
The students are challenged by their acting teacher to create their own characters and must bring their own personal experiences into an emotional space of improvisation in front of classmates they do not know. Faced with their cultural differences, prejudices and hidden fears, they are confronted to break through their own walls and establish truths when they are unprepared to deal with themselves emotionally.

We’ve got some cool new casting new regarding the big screen adaptation of the sci-fi action comic book Jiu Jitsu. Nicolas Cage was previously cast in the film along with Alain Moussi. Now they are being joined by Tony Jaa (Ong Bak, Furious 7, Monster Hunter) and Frank Grillo.
I’m sure many of you aren’t familiar with Jiu Jitsu, so I have a synopsis here to share with you that I think will get some of you excited. This actually sounds like it could be a pretty radical sci-fi movie! Check it out:

He was one of the most ruthless, feared and notorious criminals ever to come out of the Chicago Outfit: Anthony ‘Tony the Ant’ Spilotro. Now, Roland Joffé and Chicagoan Nicholas Celozzi, who is the grand nephew of the late mob boss Sam Giancana and thought of Spilotro as his second father, are bringing Celozzi’s personal story with the mobster to the big screen. The film, The Legitimate Wiseguy, will be directed by Joffé, who was nominated for two Oscars for his brilliant work in the 1980s with The Mission and The Killing Fields.
The film is being described as a contemporary Bronx Tale and was scripted by Celozzi and James McGrath.

One year after the events of Kickboxer: Vengeance, Kurt Sloan has vowed never to return to Thailand. But while he is preparing for an Mma title shot, he is drugged and wakes up in a Thai prison. His captors want him to face a colossus named Mongkut – in return, Sloan will get $2million dollars and his freedom. If he doesn’t fight, his wife will die. So Sloan has no other choice but to undergo his most rigorous training yet, under some very unexpected mentors, in order to take on this dreaded opponent.
Given the affable reception afforded the previous film, a loose remake of the 1989 original, it comes as no surprise that a sequel was in order.

When faced with writing an introduction to Christopher Lambert's work, it transpires that even when you try to resist making puns, it's borderline impossible not to make a reference to there being only one of him. Indeed, such is the enduring legacy of Highlander and his performance in it, that it's what many of us think of first when hearing his name.
The beauty of his career though, is that it encompasses so many films that are beloved by audiences worldwide – he's had mainstream hits, movies that have become major cult classics and accumulated accolades in independent French cinema.
We were fortunate enough to get some time with him as Kickboxer: Retaliation breaks its way onto DVD and Blu-ray on the 5th March, the second film in the newly rebooted trilogy. The first,...

Get ready to be body slammed by Kickboxer: Retaliation, the action-packed blockbuster sequel, which once again features protagonist Alain Moussi and martial arts icon Jean-Claude Van Damme, as Kurt Sloan and mentor Durand respectively; alongside former Highlander star Christopher Lambert, boxing legend Mike Tyson, and the man mountain Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson from Game of Thrones!

"The strongest man doesn't always win, but the smartest one does."
The first trailer has been released for Kickboxer: Retaliation, which is a sequel to Kickboxer: Vengeance. If you enjoy these kinds of low-budget action films, this one actually looks like it might be worth checking out. If you don't enjoy these kinds of movies, then it's probably not going to look very good to you. It features Mike Tyson and Jean-Claude Van Damme training a fighter, who is forced to battle a 6'8" 400 lbs monster. Here's the synopsis:

"The strongest man doesn't always win, but the smartest one does." Well Go USA has released the official trailer for the action film Kickboxer: Retaliation, which is the sequel to the Kickboxer remake film titled Kickboxer: Vengeance from 2016. Wait - did anyone even see Kickboxer: Vengeance? I recall watching the trailer for it, but I don't recall anyone seeing it or saying much about it, but maybe I forgot. Was it actually good enough to warrant a sequel? Either way, the sequel is done and is in theaters this month. Kickboxer: Retaliation has another fairly impressive cast: Alain Moussi, Christopher Lambert, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Sara Malakul Lane, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, Sam Medina, and Mike Tyson. I wish this looked like something I would want to watch, because even the big fights don't seem that good. See below. Here's the first official trailer for Dimitri Logothetis' Kickboxer: Retaliation, direct from...

My knee jerk reaction to the re-emergence of the Kickboxer franchise a couple of years ago was scepticism but somewhere between Alain Moussi's charm (interview) and Jcvd playing sensei, I was won over by Kickboxer: Vengeance (trailer) so yeah, you'd better believe I'm looking forward to the follow-up: Kickboxer: Retaliation.

Alain Moussi takes us through the new Kickboxer film, the joys of Jason Statham, and salutes Scott Adkins too...
Alain Moussi is a very happy man. When we spoke to him on the phone to talk about the home release of Kickboxer: Vengeance his enthusiasm and passion for the film and all things action movie related were in abundance and rightly so. Moussi has been working in stunts for years, doubling for the likes of Henry Cavill, Aaron Eckhart and recently Hugh Jackman in this year’s X-Men: Apocalypse, but Kickboxer has given him not only the chance to play his first lead role, but to act alongside several of his childhood heroes. There’s also the benefit that two sequels have already been greenlit and are under production already, so here’s hoping Moussi’s first franchise shines a light on his burgeoning talent.

It shows Moussi's capabilities to handle choreographed action but the verdict is still out if the action makes the most of his abilities. You get me? As an introduction this is fine but Moussi still has to prove his leading man mettle....

How much you’re likely to enjoy Kickboxer: Vengeance will be dependent on two main factors - how heavily you were invested in, or even loved, the glorious heyday of westernised martial arts action movies released in the 80s and how much you still love them. Since the new Kickboxer has already seen its release Stateside there’s a swarm of reviews that seem content to rubbish it, as is often the trend with action cinema, based on the notion that the original Kickboxer, and all movies of its kind, are disposable and worthless.
If, however, you happened to be a teenager when Jean Claude Van Damme’s star was on the rise, maybe taking up a martial art to emulate your hero, perhaps even drawing pictures of him on your text books at school, then his films were anything but throwaway.

Jean-Claude van Damme returns in a smarter than necessary reboot that’s full of plenty of physical heft, if not thespian clout
In 1989, the oft-rented, rarely rewound Kickboxer introduced many to Jean-Claude van Damme and Muay Thai martial arts. This remake proves smarter than was strictly necessary: capable journeyman John Stockwell (Blue Crush) busts out the helicopter shots to oversee boyish Alain Moussi’s progress through Thailand to avenge his brother’s death at the extensively tatted hands of former WWE heel Dave Bautista. The performers bring more physical heft than thespian clout, but genre nostalgists should appreciate the refreshingly uncomplicated manner in which Stockwell frames their dust-ups, displaying a sure editorial feel for the landing of foot or fist on face or torso. (They’ll be doubly delighted when a fugitive Moussi and pupil-turned-master Van Damme encounter workmen carrying glass panes across a busy street.) Semi-disposable VOD fodder, then,...

With Jean-Claude Van Damme hitting the big screen this month in Kickboxer: Vengeance (a remake of his 1989 smash hit) we decided to find out who is the greatest of the legendary Eighties action heroes. Who kicked hardest, fought longest and has the staying power to be the last man standing? Let the fight begin!
Sylvester Stallone
Evidence: Sylvester Stallone is not only an enduring action star of note – from Rambo and Rocky, Cobra to Cliffhanger, right through to The Expendables, Sly has always set the box office cash tills ringing; but he is also an Oscar-nominated writer, a director, and even a painter. There is, it seems, very little he cannot do.
Verdict: Stallone is more rennaisance man than action hero king.
Dolph Lundgren
Evidence: At 6ft 5 and built like a Sherman tank, Swedish powerhouse Lundgren has taken on James Bond and Rocky, played The Punisher, a Universal Soldier and was one of The Expendables.

This weekend John Stockwell’s Kickboxer Vengeance came out on VOD, digital and select cinemas this past Friday. While it is not a work of art it is at its core entertaining. The action scenes were thrown into a blender of course, thus I believe one cannot truly appreciate the hard work that fight choreographer Larnell Stovall put into each fight. However, the film does introduce us to rising talent, Lebanese-Canadian stunt actor Alain Moussi. Moussi has stunt doubled on many Hollywood productions. The last two X-Men films. White House Down, Suicide Squad, Warcraft to name a few. He will be expanding more into fight coordination with strike-while-the-iron-may-be-hot sequel Kickboxer Retaliation as well. For all Vengeance lacks in comprehension there are times where...

[[tmz:video id="0_3w37bkhe"]] Jean-Claude Van Damme doesn't just talk the talk when it comes to Mma fighting -- he's a Real athlete who coulda competed in the Ufc back in his prime ... so says Roy "Big Country" Nelson. Clip It: Each day, Jon Davis looks at the world of trailers, featurettes, and clips and puts it all in perspective. Prior to Kickboxer: Vengeance, there have been five Kickboxer movies. “Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover” is a proverb whose simple existence proves the fact impressionable souls will do so without fail. This monthly column focuses on the film industry’s willingness to capitalize on this truth, releasing one-sheets to serve as not representations of what audiences are to expect, but as propaganda to fill seats. Oftentimes they fail miserably.
It feels like the window between Toronto International Film Festival screenings to our local multiplexes has compressed to non-existence. I’m not saying there aren’t a few gems with no intention of being released this side of the New Year (I’m looking at you Free Fire), but there are at least six September releases that will have been shown at Tiff mere weeks or even days beforehand. Either the cinematic quality of blockbusters has gone through the roof or festival programmers have fallen a tad too commercial.
