Adam Carolla is a lot of things: the world’s top podcaster, a former “Man Show” co-founder, and the father of 9-year-old twins. One thing he is not is a fan of “Dora the Explorer” — and the “Road Hard” star is supplementing that disdain by putting his money where his mouth is. On Friday’s “Adam Carolla Show” podcast, the multi-hyphenate pledged $10,000 to any writer of the cartoon who can hack it in the adult sitcom world. “They’re capable of providing entertainment for … children and retarded adults,” Carolla quipped, explaining that only a 48-year-old with the intellect of a 7-year-old child could.

Adam Carolla first entered my consciousness when he served as co-host of the MTV talk show Loveline which dispensed wit and wisdom to America's youth in the late 1990s. Since then, he's done a lot of shows in which he's appeared as himself, and voiced a number of roles in animated ventures, but I believe Road Hard is his first lead performance in a feature film since 2007's The Hammer. He and Kevin Hench wrote the original screenplay and directed the comedy, which follows a stand-up comic who goes back on the road to provide for his daughter after he experiences a costly divorce and loses his television show. In an exclusive clip, the comic (Carolla, of course) tries to check out of a hotel...

Adam Carolla and Dennis Miller may have just given fans something to truly be pissed off about. The newly formed duo’s much-publicized “Po’dcast” is “on hiatus” after just six episodes, Carolla tweeted on Wednesday. The “Road Hard” star explained that he needed to “deal with Season 3 of ‘Contractor,” referring to his Spike TV show, “Catch a Contractor.” The cable TV show is currently in early production for its forthcoming run of episodes. The reality series’ shooting schedule began two weeks ago and should last through at least June, if not longer, a person with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.

Filmmaker Neill Blomkamp had his film win the opening weekend box office for the third time in his career, as Chappie finished in the top spot with $13.3 million. The victory, however, is bittersweet, as the total is a marked decrease from Blomkamp’s prior features, as Elysium opened with nearly $30 million on its first weekend, and District 9 took in over $37 million. Chappie star Dev Patel, however, made two appearances in the top three, as The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which sees him starring alongside the likes of Dame Judi Dench and Richard Gere, finished in third place with $8.6 million.
The other new entry in the top ten was Unfinished Business, as the Vince Vaughn-starring vehicle came in at tenth place with a total of $4.8 million. The total marks one of the lowest opening weekend grosses of Vaughn’s career, and marks a continuing downward trend in the performer’s box office success.

Adam Carolla may hate Hollywood, but luckily, movies like his directorial debut “Road Hard” are finding more and more avenues of being made and distributed outside the system. Carolla crowdfunded the project — breaking records in the process — and teamed with digital distribution and marketing company FilmBuff on his new movie about a comedian who hits the road. Adam Carolla‘s new independent romantic comedy “Road Hard” is most certainly not about a comedian who rediscovers his love of the road, a misapprehension of the film that’s had the podcast king seething since he first read it online. When TheWrap spoke with Jimmy Kimmel’s former Comedy Central partner on Thursday, he was still displeased with the tonally gross misinterpretation of his life’s latest work, which rolls out in select theaters and digitally on Friday. “Whoever wrote ‘He rediscovers love of the road’ is a fucking imbecile,” Carolla told TheWrap of one popular-yet-defective description. “But look,...

Adam Carolla mines his own career trajectory for worn-out dramedic pap in Road Hard, in which the comedian plays autobiographical proxy Bruce, a former host of The Bro Show who now flounders about doing stand-up in obscure clubs while his past partner (Jay Mohr) thrives as a successful late-night talk show star. This based-on-real-events setup initially fuels Carolla's caustic one-liners both onstage and during his day-to-day, which consists of hanging out with showbiz buddies (David Alan Grier, Everybody Loves Raymond creator Phil Rosenthal), meeting with his toupee-wearing, bimbo-loving agent (Larry Miller), and trying to convince his daughter (Cynthy Wu) to go to an affordable college. Those scenarios are all rooted in a particular brand of Holl...

Adam Carolla has been an actor and comedy writer for three decades, best known for his work on "Loveline," "The Man Show," and "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" But this spring, the comedian is really shaking things up.
With the new movie "Road Hard," Carolla is in the director's chair for the first time, alongside co-director Kevin Hench, but don't get it twisted: Carolla still stars in the comedy. To celebrate the release of his new comedy, we asked Carolla for his five all-time favorite comedies, above.

Exclusive: Last year’s American Film Market keynote speaker Adam Carolla is returning after successfully crowdfunding $1.4 million for his first film in seven years, with the semi-autobiographical comedy in post and a message to studios and financiers: “I just made a movie without you assholes, and it will be better than 92% of the shit Hollywood cranks out,” he said via phone from his Glendale headquarters. “I’m standing in my own studio – because of what? Because of CBS, because of Sony, because someone let me do this? I don’t need any of these assholes.”
Carolla admits his outspoken past and accusations of homophobia and misogyny might have turned off traditional investors. “Did the way you acted at the last party affect your invite to the next party? I can’t tell what I’ve missed out on,” he said. “I’m tired of dealing with the networks. I don’t think it’s helped,...

Adam Carolla has become the most successful crowdfunding comedian ever as his "Road Hard" FundAnything campaign neared $1.5 million at its close. The frequently No. 1 podcaster on iTunes set his goal at $1 million, which he surpassed -- barely breaking a sweat. Carolla's independent film received over $1.4 million in pledges. "Reaching beyond my goal is flippin' amazing! I'm blown away by the response of my fans, friends and supporters who have proven that you don't need Hollywood to make a great movie," said Carolla. "I really wanted to prove this can be...
