Official submission of South Africa to the Oscars 2014 best foreign language film category.
The casting process lasted for almost an entire year as a result of the importance Gabriel placed on authenticity.
Director Ian Gabriel wanted to portray a gangster film in a fresh way and see it in a largely unknown world. The film was largely shot where it was set - in the gang lands of the Cape Flats (in Cape Town, South Africa) - some of the most dangerous streets in the world.
When Farakhan (Brendon Daniels) is being interrogated shirtless on the street by Capt. Tito (Abduragman Adams), he identifies Farakhan as a General of the Numbers Gang the 28s. This is identifiable by the stars on his shoulders and distinct tattoos on his body. No General is to discuss gang business with anybody outside the gang. This is punishable by death.
Joburg (Israel Matseke Zulu) did really spend time in prison. Although according to his testimony, he was never a member of the Numbers Gang.
