Author Michael Connelly has had a lot of time to think about Detective Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch. The first installment in the long-running literary series was published in 1992, and his most recent offering, “The Waiting,” was released last month. In his book club event with longtime editor Asya Muchnick held last week, Connelly revealed he has plans for his titular character after “Bosch: Legacy” ends.
Harry Bosch has aged in real-time and is 74 this year, and the author is contracted for 4 or 5 additional books after his most recent release. While Maddie Bosch could end up taking up her father’s mantle in the future, for now, Connelly sees a literary future in which Bosch is still alive and well. “Hopefully the last book I write is Harry as lead character and not as a supporting character behind these two women,” he said.

What to do with the character of Alex Cross has been a hard case for Hollywood to crack. Bestselling author James Patterson introduced the ace detective to the world in 1993 with “Along Came a Spider,” launching a rich world centered around the hero psychologist and investigator now comprising more than 30 books. That series has collectively sold more than 100 million copies, which is presumably why Hollywood keeps trying to get it right.
Alex Cross first showed up on the big screen back in 1997, with Morgan Freeman in “Kiss the Girls,” followed by “Along Came a Spider,” named for the very first novel, with Freeman again, in 2001. And then in 2012, Tyler Perry took over in “Alex Cross,” controversially replacing Idris Elba.
With Aldis Hodge, “Cross,” the latest adaptation from Amazon’s Prime Video, finally gets it right.

In the ’80s, Mary Page Keller and Thomas Ian Griffith played one of the hottest couples on daytime television. As Caitlin Ewing and Sally Frame on Another World, their characters faced drama and even an invalid wedding. In real life, the two have been married since 1991. They’re both flourishing in their professional careers, too. Most recently, they have both made their mark on the Netflix hit drama Virgin River, a series which features plenty of soapy elements.

Over the years, the husband and wife have continued to act in various projects. In fact, Griffith’s appearance as the villainous Terry Silver in 1989’s Karate Kid III allowed him to bring that character to the current TV reimagining of the Karate Kid franchise called Cobra Kai. Silver’s back during this final season of the drama. The second part of the show’s sixth and final season drops on Netflix on November 15.

The Ted Humphrey-created, and David E. Kelley executive-produced series “The Lincoln Lawyer” finally returns for season 3. Adapted from Michael Connelly’s series of books about the titular Lincoln Lawyer, Mickey Haller, the show is a ratings hit on Netflix precisely because it is both an old-school throwback to network TV legal dramas, with an added sheen afforded to Netflix shows. It almost emulates the “sunny blue-skies era” of the USA Network, which made “Suits” get a gigantic second wind when it dropped on Netflix.
Most importantly after the success of “Bosch” on Prime Video and its spinoff on the sister channel Freevee, Netflix wanted to hop on the Connelly bandwagon. While “The Lincoln Lawyer” isn’t as good as “Bosch,” it has a consistency in terms of story and vibe and perfectly dependable filmmaking that allows it to be a streamable experience, even as the show fumbled majorly in the second season.

Amazon has pumped the brakes on two projects that would have brought TV characters back to our screens. One is a Bosch spinoff centering on J. Edgar (Jamie Hector); the other is a sequel to the ’80s sitcom Who’s the Boss? The Bosch spinoff isn’t moving forward at Amazon MGM Studios, and the Who’s the Boss? sequel isn’t proceeding at Amazon Freevee, according to Deadline. The first project first made headlines in February 2023, with the news that Amazon was developing two Bosch spinoffs, one focused on Detective Jerry Edgar and another focused on the then-unknown character Renée Ballard. Saeed Adyani/Amazon The J. Edgar series would have had the former partner of Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) going undercover for an FBI mission in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood, adjusting to his new life in the gritty underbelly of a glamorous city while running away from his mysterious past.

Lost alum Matthew Fox has found his next gig. (I’m 99.44% certain I’ve used that intro before with Lost actors, but man, it really works.)
With Lost‘s 20-year (!) anniversary fast approaching, Fox — who two summers ago starred in Peacock’s Last Light — is set to headline The Assassin, a series now in development at Max.
