‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ is a 2024 action-adventure comedy film based on the incredibly popular Sega video game series. It’s the sequel to ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ (2020) and ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ (2022), directed by Jeff Fowler.
The cast includes returning stars like Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey, along with newcomers Krysten Ritter and Keanu Reeves. The plot of the movie is straightforward enough Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles team up with Dr. Robotnik to stop a new, powerful enemy, Shadow the Hedgehog, and save the planet.
The movie is still a few days away from premiering globally, still, some fans and critics had the opportunity to watch it early and now the social media embargo has lifted, and some first reviews are pouring in.

The social media embargo for Mufasa: The Lion King lifted yesterday and, not to be overshadowed (pun intended), Paramount Pictures has also allowed critics to share their thoughts on Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Both movies will go head-to-head on December 20.
The consensus is overwhelmingly positive, with all signs pointing to this being a slightly more mature - and emotional - take on the beloved Sega franchise.
Keanu Reeves is being praised for his take on Shadow and it likely won't surprise you to learn that Jim Carrey steals the show. Filmmaker Jeff Fowler has ended a franchise that began with controversy (thanks to Sonic's new look which was later overhauled when the movie was delayed) on a high, and it sounds like we'll be left wanting more.

Two years ago, Jim Carrey said he was retiring unless “the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink,” but the actor returned for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Does this mean the Sonic sequel was that magical gold ink script? Not quite.
“That night’ve been hyperbole, yeah,” said Carrey when asked about his past comments on the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 red carpet. “I came back to this universe because I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. And you know, I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.“
Carrey naturally reprised his role of Dr. Ivo Robotnik for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but he actually pulls double duty as Gerald Robotnik, Ivo’s grandfather and the creator of Shadow the Hedgehog. Director Jeff Fowler knew they wanted Carrey to play both roles, but he acknowledged...

Jim Carrey revealed why he returned for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 to reprise his role as Doctor Robotnik.
During the film’s UK premiere in London, the Ace Ventura Pet Detective star joked about why he signed on to do the third installment of the film based on the Sega video game.
“I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. And, you know, it’s just… I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly. Yeah,” Carrey told the Associated Press.
In 2022, when the Bruce Almighty star was promoting the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog, he said he was retiring from acting.

For the longest time, Hollywood seemed unable to adapt popular video games into successful, widely beloved movies. It's a sad state of affairs when Paul W.S. Anderson's films "Mortal Kombat" and "Resident Evil" were once considered the pinnacle of video game movies, as both of those films are clunky and arguably mediocre. Director Uwe Boll's many video game adaptations are often called some of the worst movies ever made, and even relative hits like "Lara Croft Tomb Raider" or "Silent Hill" aren't really held up as great cinema. It wasn't until somewhat recently that audiences would exit a video game movie and think to themselves that it wasn't that bad.
The tide really turned with the release of "Sonic the Hedgehog" in 2020. After a hugely negative reaction to Sonic's animated designs in the film's previews (including his creepily realistic human teeth), Paramount spent a great deal of...

History has shown us that video game movies rarely work. Sure, there are a few notable exceptions, but I never expected Sonic the Hedgehog to be one of them. But here we are, with the first reactions to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 praising it as the best of the trilogy.
Collider’s Steven Weintraub said Sonic the Hedgehog 3 “is definitely the best one yet. The addition of Shadow (voiced by Keanu Reeves) adds a great antagonist that isn’t empty calories. But the reason to see the Sonic movies is Jim Carrey. He’s such a brilliant performer and he never gives less than his everything. Was a lot of fun watching him play off himself. He plays two roles in the sequel.“
ComicBook.com’s Chris Killian added, “It’s not often that each movie gets better in a trilogy, but #SonicMovie3 is the best of the bunch. There...

Jim Carrey said in April 2022 that he was likely retiring from acting after reprising the evil Dr. Robotnik in “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” which opened in theaters the same month. It was Carrey’s second time playing the video game villain. He first starred as Robotnik in 2020’s “Sonic the Hedgehog,” which marked Carrey first major role in a studio movie since the 2014 sequel “Dumb and Dumber To.”
“Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious,” Carrey told Access Hollywood on the “Sonic 2” press tour. “It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.”

Over the last handful of years, few franchises have thrived quite like "Sonic the Hedgehog." The first film had to overcome an awful lot, mostly the terrible original design of Sonic himself. But director Jeff Fowler and Paramount Pictures did indeed overcome that big mistake, and they now have a big, budding franchise. This month, "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" makes its way to theaters, and while a third installment in a trilogy often means the end, this may just be the beginning in some ways for Sonic and his pals.
As the trailers for "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" have promised, this installment will bring Shadow into the fold. Voiced by Keanu Reeves, this is a big deal for longtime fans. But is the action going to end once the credits start rolling? Or is Paramount going to tee up more to come? We're here to discuss whether or not the...

With the upcoming release of ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3′ this December 20th, fans of the franchise have something new to look forward to.
The film not only brings back some beloved characters but also introduces a new face with Keanu Reeves stepping into the role of Shadow.
The excitement doesn’t stop there, as both Reeves and Idris Elba, the voice behind Knuckles, have expressed their interest in further exploring their characters.
In a recent chat with ComicBook, Elba, who first lent his voice to Knuckles in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’, shared his enthusiasm about the potential for more adventures with Knuckles, even joking about a possible team-up title.
“Shadow Knuckles sounds like a band,” he teased. Reeves, on the other hand, proposed “Knuckles and Shadow” as a straightforward option for their collaboration.
Despite the initial hesitance about the Sonic characters’ debut on the big screen, their cinematic journey has been a success story.

The 1990s were a good time to be a fan of Japanese pop culture. After the '80s made gamers out of millions of kids thanks to Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, it was the '90s when anime started to become mainstream in the U.S. (even if kids didn't know it at the time) thanks to "Pokémon" becoming a worldwide cultural phenomenon. (That and "Sailor Moon" and "Dragon Ball Z" turning kids and teens into lifelong fans of the medium.)

Toxicity and cancel culture go hand in hand like butter and bread. Every fandom has toxic fans who can really put in the effort to bully someone, and the MCU fandom is no different.

Ralph Ineson Wasn’t Sure of Himself
Bullying can be done for two reasons: To actually fix something like Sonic the Hedgehog film (and it actually worked) or to just spread hatred for various reasons. Sometimes, the online trolling can become too much.

Promising things are happening in Hollywood and its neighboring streaming platforms. Films are getting bolder, directors are getting riskier, and actors are taking up more challenging roles. Meanwhile, the gaming franchise looks to be on the rise as those like Henry Cavill and Pedro Pascal lead their efforts in making Warhammer 40K and The Last of Us the best in the business.

Despite the video game-to-live-action industry suffering for the past three decades since the 1993 adaptation of Super Mario Bros., the industry has only recently begun to get the hang of it with the likes of Arcane: League of Legends, Fallout, and Sonic the Hedgehog.
While other more contentious adaptations like The Witcher and Resident Evil exist on the fringes of cult classic favorites, people are getting more than their fair share of good video game adaptations as the industry adapts and learns from the mistakes of its past.

The Lonely Island‘s Jorma Taccone is in good company for his next directorial project as Ben Schwartz and Sam Rockwell board the upcoming Searchlight comedy DNA. News about Taccone joining DNA as the film’s director and producer comes after he recently launched production in Finland for The Trip, an upcoming thriller starring Jason Segel and Samara Weaving.
Plot details for DNA remain a mystery, though we know Schwartz sold the concept to Searchlight in 2020. Schwartz wrote the script, while Ali Bell, Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Taccone produced through their Party Over Here studio. Rockwell gets in on the action as an executive producer alongside Schwartz.
Taconne’s other directorial efforts include shorts and music videos for The Lonely Island, Parks and Recreation, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, Miracle Workers, The Last O.G., and Paramount’s Knuckles series. His upcoming thriller, The Trip, revolves around a troubled couple who visit an isolated cabin.

Appropriately enough, given that Anton and Annie are demolitionists, Antonblast is a wild deconstruction of other platformers, one that throws caution to the wind to maximum effect. Though each of the game’s 12 levels is stacked with secret passages and collectables, the jagged, psychotic art style (which happily brings edgy animation like Ren & Stimpy to mind) and reckless, momentum-building hammer swings make the whole endeavor feel like a gloriously uncontrolled demolition where anything can and likely will happen.
Within the game’s first five minutes, Dynamite Anton is targeted by none other than Satan, who uses a magic mirror to determine who’s “the reddest in all the land.” Satan steals Anton’s spirits (read: alcohol) to lure him out, and in return, Anton goes about smashing everything in sight. Things start off relatively straightforward, with Anton dodging wrecking balls and explosive crates, before Antonblast defaults to winningly riffing on the platformers of yore.

Disney is releasing Mufasa: The Lion King in December and it’s starting to look like it will get beaten at the box office by Sonic 3. Both films open on the same day, December 20, 2024.
Disney has a live-action problem. With each film, its returns dwindle, and now the unthinkable may happen. According to early pre-ticket sales, a “Lion King” film could be beaten by a video game hedgehog. Of course, pre-ticket sales do not mean final numbers.
Fans are seemingly checking out from Disney’s endless live-action reimaginings of popular animated films. While “Lilo and Stitch” may still do well, it looks increasingly like “Snow White” will not. “The Little Mermaid” was heavily marketed, and it did not make much money after expenses.
It doesn’t help that fans feel the new “Mufasa: The Lion King” is “retconning” the original “Lion King” film by making Mufasa an orphan. In the original film,...

Thanksgiving is traditionally a holiday that people celebrate with their families, over a heavy turkey dinner. But, for the people in America, the holiday season kicks off with the iconic— Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. With its massive balloons, vibrant floats, and captivating performances, the parade leaves the audience enchanted each year.

However, not every year has been smooth sailing and there have been quite a few mishaps that resulted in everything from a plane crash to Barney the Dinosaur being stabbed to ‘death.’

Oh, the humanity!
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a long-standing holiday tradition, with children’s favorite cartoon, movie and TV characters inflated to the size of office buildings and strutted down the streets of Manhattan. For many, watching the festivities is a cherished childhood memory, but for some kids watching in 1997, it was the stuff of nightmares.
High winds threatened the 71st Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade from the get-go. While the wintry weather was uncomfortable for the marching bands and beauty queens, blustery breezes were devastating for the infantile inflatables. The Cat in the Hat was pummeled, colliding with a lamppost and knocking off one of his Seussian arms. A punctured Pink Panther had to be forcibly deflated by the NYPD — and this was in the days before bodycams.
Most traumatic, however, was the apparent demise of Barney. Like the Cat in the Hat, the purple dinosaur...

Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King has its work cut out for it.
As it stands now, Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is tracking to open to $55 million over the Dec. 20-22 weekend, compared to $50 million for Mufasa: The Lion King, according to sources with access to data from leading research firm National Research Group.
It would be an upset if Sonic succeeded in beating Mufasa, considering that the summer 2019 remake The Lion King opened to a stunning $191.8 million domestically on its way to earning $1.7 billion globally. Like that film, Mufasa is a live-action movie relying heavily on photorealistic imagery.
Many doubted whether the 2019 film, directed by Jon Favreau, would work, similar to the conversation now swirling about Mufasa.

As if the great Moana 2 box office news wasn’t enough Wednesday morning, Disney’s Barry Jenkins- directed Lion King prequel Mufasa and Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has hit three-week tracking.
Currently, the Hedgehog is looking to outrun the Lion, $55 million+ to $50 million, but keep in mind Disney hasn’t screamed out its Mufasa campaign yet. That happens on December 2, even though trailers will be in front of a ton of family eyeballs this week on Moana 2. Mufasa also has had three trailers out, and a teaser for tickets on sale, versus Sonic‘s two.
Right now, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is besting Mufasa in first choice, 11 to 7 for general audiences. Sonic 3 had a big second-trailer drop on Monday that trended all day. Mufasa is ahead of Sonic 3, 50 to 47, in interest.

Paramount Pictures takes fans behind the scenes of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 with the “Casting a Shadow” featurette. The minute-long video features Keanu Reeves in the recording booth, getting into character as the main villain. “For 50 years, Shadow’s been in a state of suspended animation,” says Reeves, adding, “He’s coming out of it seeking revenge.”
Jim Carrey, the voice of Dr. Robotnik, describes Shadow as having a “sympathetic, brooding kind of darkness that Keanu has mastered so brilliantly.” Ben Schwartz, the voice of Sonic, and Idris Elba, the voice of Knuckles, also share their thoughts on Shadow in the video.
The cast also includes James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, Adam Pally, and Lee Majdoub. Newcomers to the film franchise include Alyla Browne and Krysten Ritter.

Idris Elba has an interesting filmography. He tends to go back and forth between interesting, challenging roles and blockbusters. He’s the type of actor who will star in George Miller’s “Three Thousand Years of Longing” and then voice Knuckles in a ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ film. It’s almost a “one for them, one for me” mentality. So, it actually makes sense that he’s going to star in “Masters Of The Universe.”

Despite the relatively light release year, a welcome spread of films this holiday season brings us good tidings and cheer. From indies to majors, from talking lions to dog-women, there’s variety under the tree this year, offering a mix of blockbuster studio baubles, idiosyncratic character-driven Hanukkah presents, and new stocking-stuffers from stalwart filmmakers.

Imagine if John Wick was a little hedgehog who wielded a weapon and went on to kill humans. He’d still win but it would be just an angry hedgehog. That’s what Keanu Reeves is in the upcoming film Sonic the Hedgehog 3… an angry hedgehog.

Tickets for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 have just gone on sale and an explosive new trailer has been released by Paramount Pictures. The focus is very much on Shadow's mission of revenge, along with the dynamic between Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.
It goes without saying at this point that Jim Carrey steals the show, particularly as he's taking on dual roles in this threequel as both Dr. Robotnik and his grandfather, Shadow's creator. There are also the expected pop culture references, with poor Tails compared to Detective Pikachu.
Back to Reeves, though, and he's so far proving himself a pitch-perfect choice to bring Shadow to life in this epic third chapter of the hit franchise. Similar to the Knuckles TV series, we'd imagine Paramount is heading into this movie with the intention of launching a big or small screen spin-off revolving around the fan-favourite anti-hero.

Wes Bergmann is known as an iconic reality TV villain, thanks to his time on MTV’s The Challenge.
He’s been known for playing a behind-the-scenes puppet master, manipulating various castmates to help him pull off strategic moves and advance in the game.
Now he’s appearing in E!’s House of Villains, following in the footsteps of his rival-turned-friend castmate Johnny Bananas.
And he upgraded his look in a recent video courtesy of one of his new reality TV castmates.
An entertaining new video spotlighted Wes and Safaree giving each other villainous makeovers based on their personalities.
The results are pretty hilarious, as Wes emerged looking much different from his trademark casual style on The Challenge.

The popular game franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog, is back with its third movie. The series is all set to premiere in January 2025. Unsurprisingly, it is one of the most popular and celebrated game franchises of all time.
With its third movie in the works, the Sonic staff revealed its Japanese voice cast. This had several fans waiting with bated breath for the upcoming movie. But most importantly, their excitement has more to do with a certain voice actor.

Among the many criticisms that were hauled at A Minecraft Movie, was the fact that the film had decided to take the live-action route, rather than using animation to tell its story. This has worked out well for most video game properties, be it Arcane, Castlevania, or The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

From three-time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Dean DeBlois, the creative visionary behind DreamWorks Animation's acclaimed How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, comes the long-awaited live-action reimagining of the film that launched that now-iconic franchise.
Following several leaks (both of the camera phone and HD variety), Universal Pictures has finally released the official teaser trailer and poster (via Toonado.com) for this gorgeous new take on the 2010 animated classic.
Neither shows off too much but both sneak peeks make it clear that Toothless will look almost exactly like he did in the previous How to Train Your Dragon movies. Every studio on the planet learned from Paramount's mistake with Sonic the Hedgehog, so this is the right move even if he doesn't look as "realistic" as House of the Dragon's far scarier beasts.

How Did Jim Carrey React When He Was Told He Had 10 Minutes To Live? (Photo Credit – Amazon)
January 2018 was supposed to be just another day for Jim Carrey in Hawaii. But when his assistant FaceTimed him with an urgent message—”There are missiles coming, and they’re going to land in 10 minutes”—the actor had no idea his life would soon blend with the absurd.

And yet, that movie won audiences over, before director Paul King delivered a sequel that is a perfect movie by every metric as subjective as a Rotten Tomatoes score, or as objective as the word of Nicolas Cage.
Unfortunately, it seems that when King decided to make "Wonka" instead of another "Paddington" movie, he took all the magic with him, leaving only a "story by" credit for newcomer Dougal Wilson (in his feature directorial debut) and his cohort of writers to pick up. Wilson's task of following a masterpiece despite the loss of the original creator and one of the main stars of the film, was impossible.
