Geppetto's cuckoo clocks are a collection of Disney characters: Woody and his horse Bullseye from the Toy Story series (starring Tom Hanks) Donald Duck, Roger Rabbit and his wife Jessica kissing (from Robert Zemeckis's previous film Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)) Archimedes the Owl (from The Sword in the Stone (1963)), The Lion King (1994), Princess Aurora and Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty (1959), Dumbo (1941), Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). The remaining clocks recreate those seen in the original Pinocchio (1940).
The film opens with Jiminy Cricket singing a bit of "When You Wish Upon a Star", the official Disney fanfare. That song had originated in Pinocchio (1940), and was in fact that film's introduction song, sung by Jiminy.
The Pinocchio storybook cover used at the end of the film has a similar color and illustration as the one used at the start of Pinocchio (1940).
Based on the book "Le avventure di Pinocchio. Storia di un burattino." (Pinocchio's adventures. Story of a puppet) Originally released as a collection of stories between 1881 and 1882-83 by Italian author Carlo Lorenzini from Florence. Lorenzini is mostly known as Carlo Collodi. Collodi is a town in Tuscany where the author's mother was from. There is also a theme park in Collodi called "Parco di Pinocchio" (Pinocchio's Park).
