Directorial debut of Stephanie Di Gusto.
Gaspard Ulliel and Mélanie Thierry previously costarred together in The Princess of Montpensier (2010).
There is no record of Loïe Fuller ever having a relationship with a man. The character Louis d'Orsay (portrayed by Gaspard Ulliel) didn't exist in real life. Loïe was in a lesbian relationship with her collaborator Gabrielle Bloch for 30 years. Director Stéphanie Di Giusto said in the film's press kit: "I also took the liberty of inventing the character of Louis d'Orsay, performed by Gaspard Ulliel. I needed a male presence in this film populated by women. Loïe Fuller was homosexual and it was important for me not to make it the subject of the film. Louis d'Orsay touched me a lot: he is the sacrificed man in the film.''
Freely adapted from the 1994 biography "Loïe Fuller, danseuse de la Belle Époque" by Giovanni Lista.
