The landmark deal is a win for Imax, which partners with Netflix as it seeks another limited, promotional theatrical run for one of its movie titles.

With Narnia, the two week exclusive window for Imax was crucial to establishing a long enough run to satisfy theater circuits that operate Imax auditoriums. As part of the agreement, Netflix has a four-week window for the film before the Netflix debut, but the film technologies company for now is committed to playing Narnia exclusively for two weeks starting on Thanksgiving 2026.

After months of negotiations, Imax announced that “Narnia” will be released exclusively on its screens worldwide for two weeks in advance of the film’s debut on Netflix. “Narnia” is currently slated to open in Imax on Thanksgiving Day 2026. It will premiere on Netflix at Christmas of the same year.

The Imax launch is a rarity for the streamer, which does grant limited, Oscar-qualifying theatrical releases for its awards hopefuls like “Emilia Perez” and “Maria,” but mostly prefers to have its movies, particularly the more broadly commercial ones, debut on its platform. A24 has released the official trailer for Warfare, the new visceral cinematic event directed by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland. Mendoza was the military supervisor for Garland’s Civil War.

After Greta Gerwig’s Barbie success, she’s all set to tackle The Chronicles of Narnia for Netflix, and the excitement is all over the place. Producer Amy Pascal, who also worked with Gerwig on Little Women, recently shared some interesting thoughts on the upcoming Narnia adaptation. Aren’t we thrilled?

Reportedly, Gerwig is tackling at least two movies in the series, but the first might surprise fans. Moreover, Jason Issacs hinted that instead of diving straight into The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Gerwig’s first film will tackle The Magician’s Nephew, the origin story of Narnia. Timothée Chalamet's much anticipated Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown debuts on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by James Mangold, and co-starring Ed Norton, Elle Fanning, and Scoot McNairy, the movie will release Christmas Day in the United States and has already generated significant Oscar buzz. The first reviews for the movie have landed on aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, and early signs look promising. According to the site, A Complete Unknown has scored an impressive 74% Rotten Tomatoes critic score from 62 reviews at the time of writing. This score could fluctuate as more reviews are added. In the past 96 years of the Academy Awards, there have only been two years in which two Black women were nominated for Best Actress in the same year. That ignominious statistic could very well change for the better this year, as performers Cynthia Erivo (“Wicked”) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (“Hard Truths”) are both closing in on nominations.

Erivo’s star turn as Elphaba, a role which won the Best Musical Actress trophy at the 2004 Tony Awards for Idina Menzel, currently ranks fifth in our combined Oscar odds. It would mark her second nomination in the category, following her breakout film role as Harriet Tubman in “Harriet” (2019). The actress earned two nominations that year, also receiving recognition for the song “Stand Up,” which she wrote with Joshuah Brian Campbell. The Tony winner for “The Color Purple” currently has 80% of experts and 40% of Gold Derby editors predicting her for the nom.

Step aside, Daisy Edgar-Jones: Paul Mescal just might have a new career collaborator in Saoirse Ronan.

The “Outrun” and “Blitz” star said during a recent junket interview with reporter Landon Johnson that she plans on “having a whole career shared” with Mescal. However, she most likely won’t be making her action-film genre debut with Mescal’s newfound franchise come “Gladiator III.”

“I would do a film with Paul. Yeah, definitely,” Ronan said when asked if she would appear in the not-yet-greenlit third film. “[But] I don’t know if there’s a character for me in ‘Gladiator.’ It is tough.”

Instead, Ronan reiterated her desire to star in a musical, and pointed to the “Glicked” dual debuts of “Wicked” and “Gladiator II.”

“We got ‘Wicked’ coming out as well,” Ronan said, as both films premiered November 22 in theaters, “and I’d love to be a witch with the girls.

Bob Dylan has no qualms about Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of him in James Mangold’s upcoming A Complete Unknown.

“There’s a movie about me opening soon called A Complete Unknown (what a title!),” Dylan wrote on social media on Wednesday. “Timothee Chalamet is starring in the lead role. Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me.”

Mangold’s film is set in the summer of 1961, when a 19-year-old Dylan arrived in New York City from Minnesota with little else than his guitar. In a vox pop by a popular page, common folk in the UK were asked about who they think are the most overrated stars in Hollywood, and Reynolds, Sandler, and Timothée Chalamet seemed to dominate the list.

While some members of the list may deserve it, others such as Chalamet have proved why they are at the top. Even actors like Adam Sandler and Dwayne Johnson, who were featured in the list, seem to be taking on roles that are not of their usual style. The jury is still out, however, on these stars.

On Monday, the Palm Springs International Film Festival announced that the 28-year-old American actor will receive the Chairman’s Award at its annual gala on Jan. 3, 2025. This honor specifically recognizes Chalamet’s performance in James Mangold‘s “A Complete Unknown” from Searchlight Pictures, a biopic of music legend Bob Dylan.

This news comes one week after he was announced as the Arlington Artist of the Year Award honoree at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and two weeks after he and Mangold were both named as the Visionary Tribute honorees at the Gotham Awards.

The Palm Springs International Film Awards will take place at the Palm Springs Convention Center, with the 11-day festival running between Jan. 2 and Jan. 13. The event will be presented by Silvercrest and sponsored by “Entertainment Tonight.”
