It appears that ESPN is ready to dump F1 races, which could provide Netflix with a golden opportunity.

It was something of a surprise when ESPN was able to retain Formula 1 broadcast the rights in 2022. Netflix — which airs the wildly popular F1 docuseries “Drive to Survive” — was reportedly very interested in the rights. Had the world’s largest streamer won the rights, they would have represented the first regularly-scheduled live sporting event in Netflix history. While the streaming giant missed out on the rights three years ago, it could have a chance to rectify that soon, as new reporting indicates that ESPN is ready to walk away from the racing league.

Key Details: John Ourand of Puck reports that ESPN is pulling out of F1 negotiations. Netflix and NBC have already approached the racing league about its rights. F1 is seeking a raise from the $90 million per year it currently makes for its races.

The league can get out of broadcast deals with CBS and Fox as soon as 2030, and if that happens Netflix could jump into the fray.

They say it’s good to have a five-year plan, and Netflix’s current plan is a doozy, especially when it comes to live sports. That’s because John Ourand of Puck News is reporting that Netflix wants to pursue a Sunday afternoon package of NFL games in the future. If it does, it would represent a considerable turnaround in Netflix’s thinking about live sports on its platform. For most of the streaming giant’s existence, it has shied away from live events of any kind, but in recent years, that strategy has been shifting, highlighted by two Christmas Day NFL games last season.

Key Details: Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria told Puck it wants to pursue Sunday afternoon NFL games in the future.

Galvanized by pre-sales to France, Germany and Spain on awaited Icelandic crime series “Reykjavik Fusion,” Erik Barmack’s ahead of the game L.A-based Wild Sheep Content has boarded “Good Bones,” a New Zealand murder mystery series.

Wild Sheep by Barmack, a former Netflix head of international originals with oversight over “The Witcher,” “Casa de Papel,” “Kingdom” and “Sacred Games,” will co-produce “Good Bones,” with Luminous Beast.

One of New Zealand most in-demand new production companies Luminous Beast burst on the scene with Sky Originals series “INSiDE,” a 2021 International Emmy winner, and then “After the Party,” picked up by the U.K.’s Channel 4, and whose lead performance by Robyn Malcom was hailed by The Guardian as “among the best television portrayals in years, from anywhere in the world.”

Backed by The Mediapro Studio, Wild Sheep will also handle international distribution.

“Good Bones” is now funded by Sky New Zealand and Wild Sheep Content.

Rebel Wolves’ The Blood of Dawnwalker has been making waves since its announcement in January 2025. Vampires have largely been lacking in representation in modern gaming (the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines franchise notwithstanding). This new title from the brains behind CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher franchise is set to change that with an intriguing premise and excellent gameplay that are sure to appeal to fans of sanguine immortals.

The Blood of Dawnwalker’s common ground with The Witcher franchise is something that Rebel Wolves has certainly not tried to play down. Instead, the studio has welcomed comparisons with the vastly popular title while deftly positioning the new game as something that brings the best of Geralt’s sprawling adventures to a more condensed, quality-focused experience.

Henry Cavill's time as Superman came to an undignified end after being tapped by Warner Bros. for Black Adam's mid-credits scene, The Flash's reshoots, a Man of Steel sequel, and likely projects including Black Adam 2 and Crisis on Infinite Earths. 

When James Gunn and Peter Safran formed DC Studios, Cavill was dropped and David Corenswet was tapped to play the hero in this summer's Superman. 

The British actor, who has also bid farewell to The Witcher, wasted no time in making the leap to the MCU for a cameo role as a Wolverine Variant in Deadpool & Wolverine. Rumours have since persisted that Cavill is being lined up to return, though not necessarily as Logan.

A Court of Thorns and Roses, the first novel in a five-book series of the same name, is about a young huntress named Feyre who kills a faerie. According to The A.V. Club, the books by Sarah J. Maas have sold some 20 million copies, so it wasn't shocking to hear a few years back that Disney was working on turning them into a TV series to run on Hulu.

The show was being worked on by Maas herself and Ronald D. Moore, who was instrumental to bringing both the 2000s-era reboot of Battlestar Galactica and Outlander to the screen. It seemed like a dream team, but according to Deadline, Moore eventually left the series.

Formerly, Netflix titles did not appear in the Apple TV unified Watchlist, but it appears that is now changing.

Key Details: Some Apple TV owners are starting to see Netflix titles appear in the Watchlist and Continue Watching sections. Apple TV shows viewers the titles they watched last on other apps as well, such as Disney+ and Max. An official announcement from Netflix and Apple is likely coming soon.

It’s time to announce Henry Cavill’s new role — as an “ambassador of elegance” for luxury watch brand Longines.

Netflix’s “The Witcher” puts its spin on “The Little Mermaid” in “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep.” Set during the events of Season 1, the new animated film adapts from Andrzej Sapkowski’s short story “A Little Sacrifice” (which was itself inspired by the classic fairytale).

The film follows Geralt and Jaskier to a seaside town to investigate attacks, only to wind up in the middle of a long-brewing conflict between the humans and merpeople before it turns into all-out war. The adaptation brings some of its own spin to the tale, featuring voices that “Witcher” fans will recognize from the games and live-action series alike — as well as some newcomers.

Now, the titular Witcher is becoming something new: an animated character in “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep.” This is the first time the character stars in a feature animated film, and for director Kang Hei Chul and studio Mir, it was an exciting challenge to reconcile the different portrayals of the character.

“The real task was capturing these characters’ unique charms and identities,” director Kang told IndieWire via email. “We carefully studied each character’s mannerisms by examining the existing novels, games, and series. Our goal was to faithfully portray Geralt’s cynical and tough persona while also hinting at his inner struggles.”
